Stayed a full week here. The rooms are kept spotless, the black out curtains are nice, towels are fluffy and big, and there was a Nespresso machine and mini-fridge. (It said complimentary drinks on the fridge but it was empty.) The hotel and room have a very clean (but not chemical or weird) scent that was pleasant.

Accor website still advertises a transfer to the city center, which we found out does not exist anymore. The walk from Overamstel (or Spaklerweg, if you want to pass a McD) is easy though.

There are bike rentals, but you can’t reserve so just hope enough people returned it from the night before, and you wake up the earlier before others. The capacity really needs to be improved if they’re going to say they have bike rentals in the lobby! Alternatively the front desk can offer shop names that have good bikes to rent because that’s what we ended up doing.

Overall I would say this place is good if you do not plan to use the amenities I mentioned above.

Dear Guest, Thank you for reviewing your recent experience. We are delighted to hear that the cleanliness of our rooms and the pleasant scent throughout the hotel contributed positively to your experience at Mercure Amsterdam City. However, we regret any confusion regarding the transfer service to the city center. We understand that accurate information is crucial, and we will ensure that our communications on the Accor website are updated to reflect the current services available. Regarding the bike rental, we apologize for the inconvenience caused due to the limited availability. We are continuously working to enhance our amenities, and we appreciate your suggestion to improve this service. We are pleased to note that the proximity to the two Overamstel- and Spaklerweg- metrostations is convenient for your travels around the city. We hope to welcome you back. All the best. Francis Windt, General Manager, Mercure Hotel Amsterdam City

Modern, international hotel with knowledgeable and helpful staff. Good location, metro stop one kilometer away (at least 10/12 minutes walk) well served, with a market along the way where you can also get some hot croissants in the morning if you do not want to have breakfast at the hotel (20 € person). Free water in reception and coffee machine in the room, with pods included.
Fastfood nearby.

The minus point for a couple of shortcomings in the room that, although reported, were not resolved during the stay, such as the safe found closed and unlocked only after three days and the lack of kits such as slippers, present in one room and absent in the other two, never provided even if requested.

Recommendation if you plan to leave in the morning and return only after dinner, otherwise it is convenient to look for a more central accommodation.

The review refers to our stay in August 2021.
Great, clean hotel with a wonderful location. We took a 3-day trip to Amsterdam during the pandemic and found exactly the right place at the Mercure Hotel Amsterdam City. The price-performance ratio was unbeatable, the rooms were clean and modern. The view was also beautiful, quiet location and very well connected. The train station is a 5-minute walk away and it takes about 17 minutes to get to the main station in a well-maintained train. Ideal for us as "walking explorers" who also want to see a bit of the city. Anyone who complains about the location here has obviously not done their research. The staff was also super friendly, parking spaces are also plentiful and safe. I can only recommend it.

Do Not Stay Here.
We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights 8/1 - 8/5. The first night was fine, we found the decor to be classy, but a bit outdated and also getting old/worn.

On our second day, we had left the room about 10a - 6pm (18:00) for a short rest, left at 7pm (19:00) and returned to our room at 10pm (22:00). As we approached our room, we see the door of our room was Wide Open. The room was dark and we were extremely confused. We were two girls traveling and were immediately disturbed. I went in, turned on the light and searched the room. One room key was sitting on our bed, where we left it. We also had valuables here that were **thankfully** still in the room. We had hoped to refuse maid service to be environmentally conscious - but our bed was made (it was not made when we left at 7pm (19:00).

We called the front desk to let them know what happened and asked when the maid service came to our room. They said that the maid service usually leaves at 4pm. When I told them it was dark when we got there - the attendant said "Oh, that sounds scary! I too would be afraid if I walked up to a room like that!" When I later mentioned that we were extremely unnerved that someone random may have come into our room, the attendant chuckled it off and said "oh there is nothing to worry about. ****Our cleaning crew leaves doors open sometimes*****"

I explained how that made us feel even worse - but overall, it wasn't a simple matter to us. It made us extremely uncomfortable knowing that our room was open the entire time. My passport was in the room, along with technology and other valuables.

They offered to place us in the room next door. We agreed, just to have a slightly better sleep. We moved to the next room over, where there was food trays still outside from room service. The coffee machine was also missing parts. We got terrible sleep that night.

On our way out, I let them know that we would at minimum like a refund of one of our 4 nights - as it was their doing for leaving the door open. The attendant told me the manager wasn’t in, but he said they would email me to the email on file and I have yet to hear back. The attendant mentioned he would give us a free drink - but we weren’t interested. He suggested a partial refund - but again, we have yet to hear back.

If you value your personal safety and the safety of your belongings, stay somewhere else. They obviously don’t find security important, and you will be the one to pay.

Dear Guest, Thank you for this review about your recent stay. We are deeply sorry to read about the concerns you encountered during your stay, particularly with the security of your room. The peace of mind and safety of our guests are paramount, and it is distressing to learn that an oversight may have compromised this core value. Please accept our sincerest apologies for the unease caused by the room door being inadvertently left open. We understand the gravity of such a situation, especially when valuable belongings are involved, and we regret the distress it has caused you. Furthermore, we are sorry about the shortcomings you faced with the room amenities and service following your room change, including the food trays left outside and the issue with the coffee machine. This is certainly not the standard we strive for, and we acknowledge how these factors can impact one's comfort and rest. Regarding the communication from our front desk team and the handling of your refund request, we offer our apologies for not meeting your expectations of prompt and empathetic customer service. We are reviewing your feedback with our team to ensure our service aligns with the high standards we aim to uphold. We are sincerely sorry that the service did not meet your expectations. We will follow up on this with our team. We hope you will return for an improved experience in the future. Kind regards, Francis Windt, General Manager, Mercure Hotel Amsterdam City

A few things happened that I cannot accept for a hotel like this. I travel a lot and my complaints are not exaggerated.
In 3 nights, the coffee cups were never changed, the coffee was not refilled, the water drain in the shower was not working properly, there was someone else's hair in the shower area, the towels were not refilled after cleaning, dishcloths and chemicals were left in the room, the suction pipe was left standing, despite the sun, blue skies and questions about whether the chairs and tables outside could be wiped dry, the answer was no. So we were allowed to take a cloth in our hands and wipe the tables/chairs ourselves. Even when I told reception that I no longer had any coffee/tea or sugar in the room, they wanted to give me everything so that I could take it to the room myself. The room/night cost CHF 370, and such service, wow - I haven't experienced that in a long time. Sorry, I really couldn't find any good words for it.

Overall the hotel was pretty decent - good room, nice breakfast and conveniently located to get into town by metro. However housekeeping and customer satisfaction was a joke. No housekeeping service after the first night and when we complained we were told nothing can be done as housekeeping had left for the day. Supervisor on shift at 7pm was useless and didn't care. Next day we told reception to make sure room was cleaned - came back to find no towels and a baby cot set up in the middle of the room!!! Porter came to give towels but only two sets (we were three people staying), came back with another single towel and then came back third time with bath mat. When we complained on check out, Ulysses handled it well and said he would get management to contact us and offer some compensation (maybe in the the way of Accor Live points) - we never heard anything. Wrote a review on the hotel website and manager simply said thanks for the feedback and they will will try and communicate better - hope we enjoyed all the lovely things Amsterdam has to offer. More nonsense and zero resolution.

Dear Guest, Thank you for the time taken to review your stay. We are pleased that you found our rooms to your liking and that our breakfast offerings were to your satisfaction. It is also gratifying to know that you appreciated our convenient location for accessing the city by metro. However, we apologize for the shortcomings you experienced with our housekeeping services. While our housekeeping team works diligently to maintain high standards of cleanliness, it seems we missed the mark during your stay. We understand the importance of a well-serviced room and the frustration that can arise when expectations are not met. Moreover, we regret any inconvenience caused by the lack of sufficient towels and the unexpected setup of a baby cot, and we're sorry that these issues were not resolved to your satisfaction at the time. Finally, we are delighted that you enjoyed the easy access to Amsterdam's vibrant city center from our hotel. Our location next to the river and close proximity to public transport options are aspects our guests often find convenient for their travels. We hope to welcome you back soon. With very best wishes, Francis Windt, General Manager, Mercure Hotel Amsterdam City

Hotel very well located, less than 30 minutes from the center of Amsterdam by metro, very easy to access, with open-air parking (paid) for parking your vehicle. Ideal for visiting Amsterdam with the family. It also has a Bar and a spacious restaurant with a very decent buffet menu.
However, the room maintenance service leaves something to be desired: room service only came to clean my room once during my stay (over a stay of 3 nights), and the rooms are poorly ventilated and full of dust mites: allergy sufferers refrain!
When I reported these 2 problems to the manager of the cleaning team, he just shrugged his shoulders and left without saying anything. Too bad because this does not benefit the quality/price ratio which is ultimately quite high.

Overall the mercure is a great hotel. It's located outside of the city centre but the metro is a ten minute walk and there is a direct line to central. The rooms are modern in design and the shower is hot and powerful. I would say the breakfast is very expensive 25 euros each and although it is nice it isn't worth the cost.

Dear Guest, Thanks for your review about our hotel. We are delighted that you enjoyed the modern design of our rooms and the quality of our shower facilities. Our team works diligently to provide a comfortable and contemporary environment for our guests, and it is great to hear when this has been appreciated. However, we understand your concerns regarding the breakfast pricing. As of May 2022, the buffet breakfast is priced at EUR 21.00 per person, offering a wide selection of warm and cold items, designed to cater to various tastes and preferences. We aim to provide value for our guests with our comprehensive breakfast options, and we're sorry if this did not meet your expectations. Nonetheless, we're pleased that you found our location convenient for accessing the heart of Amsterdam with just a short walk to the metro station leading directly to central areas. It's wonderful to know that our location added value to your stay with us. We are hoping to welcome you back in the future. All the best. Francis Windt, General Manager, Mercure Hotel Amsterdam City

The hotel location is great, just outside of the centre, reachable by metro (10 minutes walk) or tram (25 minutes walk). We used both options and it gives you an idea of the area. We stayed for a long weekend and had a great time. The reception staff are impeccable. The room was great with a lovely view on the 16th floor. We consumed breakfast however that was slightly disappointing. The fresh dishes were nice but for a 4 star hotel some of the produce such as coffee, jams and juices could be of a better quality. For the produce, it is quite overpriced in comparison with other Mercure hotels. Awi, however, the chef who was also helping out in the restaurant made it two perfect mornings for us. The view from the bar is lovely over the water and we would definitely recommend this property for other travellers.

Really didn't know what to rate this hotel. Where some bits were fine, others left a poor impression...
Pros: bed really comfy, àmazing shower, some of the staff are really helpful and friendly.  Nicely decorated. If you put a note out not to clean your room, you get a 5 euro credit for the bar/restaurant.
Day one bar server was very polite and friendly.
Day 2 receptionist in the morning was very helpful too.

Cons: location ( my fault for not properly checking but we were a 7 min walk to metro and then 15 mins to centraal.
Fridge doesn't work, it was switched on but not cold.  I didn't mention this to reception as frankly I couldn't be bothered.
the package we purchased advertised as complimentary mini bar but we weren't told on checking in that we had to ask for soft drinks at reception and that they weren't in our room. When we checked in we were also told we had interconnected rooms for us and the kids, but they weren't interconnected and when I called down to ask I was told they weren't available.
The view isn't a stunning view of the river like I had the impression but rather some big tower blocks and a less aesthetic view of the river.
When asking about travel into the city,  we were told how to get to the metro but we weren't told we could buy tickets from the hotel, or that kids under 12 were free.
We also were under the impression that there was a daily shuttle boat to the city, buy when I asked we were told it doesn't run any more.
On day 2 in the bar, I tried to order a mocktail but was told I couldn't have anything from the cocktail menu because there was a large group in the hotel and if everyone wanted a cocktail it would be too much!! There were about 20 other people in the bar and they weren't queueing up for cocktails. Just me!!
Breakfast... I really thought being in Amsterdam there might be a pancake at breakfast but there was nothing other than the standard buffet, or else if there was we weren't offered it!
For a hotel of this quality, I would have liked a few more toiletries options, we just had one shampoo, one shower gel and a moisturiser. I would have loved a shower cap and maybe a nail file or even a sewing kit!! Little extras that make you believe that it's worth the £ you're spending.

Overall its a very comfortable hotel and the staff are friendly, but some don't really know what they're talking about and others should really be offering more info at reception. We didn't feel excited to be sat in the hotel bar or felt we were given a true Dutch welcome.
I'd stay here on business maybe but I wouldn't bring my family here for leisure again. Sorry!
