Detailed Reviews
Stayed 3 days each pre and post river cruise. An older building known to locals with rooms refurbished in contemporary minimalist style, especially regarding square feet. Beds were comfy though. Bathrooms are tiny and offer no amenities beside hair dryer But I had a fridge and espresso machine. The nearby Albert Heijn grocery makes it possible to live/dine frugally after you tire of Dutch pancakes. Central Station is a 10 minute walk and all trams are outside the door. Amazing shopping But the bustle outside never ceases. Desk staff was very knowledgeable and accommodating

I stayed in this hotel for a 2 night stay and we really enjoyed our stay. We arrived in Amsterdam at 9:30am and decided to go to the hotel to drop off out bags. When we arrived at the hotel we were greeted by a lovely lady in reception, she checked to see if our room was available and to our delight it was so it was great to get to the room for a slight rest before we set off to explore the city. The room was modern and very clean, the bathroom/shower area are quiet small but we are use to this is Amsterdam.
Our room was cleaned on the second morning of our stay and beds made, there is a coffee machine, hair dryer and fridge in the hotel room along with the usual TV stations.
We didn't get a chance to sample the food in the restaurant but it looked exceptional. There is toilet in the basement under the restaurant and this area looked very fancy and well maintained.
The hotel is located about 7min walk from Central Station and there is a tram stop directly in front of the hotel, I've been in Amsterdam on many occasions and this is by far the best location to get trams, metros etc.
We would definitely stay in this hotel again

My favourite place to stay in Amsterdam as its a perfect locationn being 1 min from Dam square and 5 minutes from Amsterdam centraal station which is where you arrive in the city from the Airport train. The Hotel itself is really nice, I like that it is more traditional than modern style. The room I stayed in 107 was good being on the side as was quiet and it was a good size. The bed was very comfortable giving a good nights sleep. And a nice sized and clean bathroom with nice shower. The room even includes a mini fridge which is perfect for putting drinks from the nearby Albert Heijn supermarket. The room also has air conditioning and climate control which is really nice.
The staff are really helpful and genuinley friendly. Especially Jeroeme the night staff who has really great suggestions for day trips outside and very close to Amsterdam. This is the only place I want to stay when in Amsterdam.

Hotel
Stayed in this hotel during a recent 4 day trip to Amsterdam. The hotel is lovely and looks very modern with a nice restaurant which looks onto the street and is located very centrally on the main road away from the central station and is just next to Dam Square and is within easy walking distance of the main shopping streets, tourist attractions and the red light district.
The staff are friendly and attentive and can offer assistance with booking any tickets you might want for the local attractions and this is usually at a cheaper rate.
We paid a little bit extra and had a superior room which was on the first floor and was a spacious room with two large patio doors over the main shopping street which meant that on Friday and Saturday night it was still quite loud at 1/2am.
The room itself was also quite chilly with a little air conditioning unit trying it’s best to keep the room warm!
There is a nice little bathroom with shower and bath however we didn’t have any hot water from our sink for the full trip which was a shame!
The bed was large and comfy and the sheets clean and tidy!
All in all, a lovely, well placed, hotel which is well placed for a city break and a good vase to go exploring.

Brilliant location on Dam Square and opposite the team stop if you need it. It is also walking distance from the station. Other reviews have complained about the size if the comfort rooms but we found it to be just what we needed- spotlessly clean, coffee machine, kettle, fridge and hairdryer. We stayed in 322 which was also very quiet. The Reception staff are so helpful and you can leave your luggage with them before check in or on check out . Breakfast is more than sufficient and the restaurant attached to the hotel has a good menu and always popular.

This hotel claims to be a 4 Star... it is a 1 star at best. The images of the rooms are very deceiving. We paid for a King Comfort room. First of all the word Comfort in Europe means micro/mini and not comfort as we all know it to mean. We checked in and the room is a micro-sized room, paid for a king bed but we got 2 small singles pushed next to each other. For a couple celebrating their wedding anniversary 2 single beds just slide apart. There was barely any room to walk around the bed let alone to place your luggage. Then the bathroom, to sit on the toilet you need to snake your body to squeeze into a tiny space around the massive toilet paper dispenser at shoulder height to be able to sit on the toilet. Very difficult to wipe yourself. The shower has just enough room to stand and get wet, do not think of bending over or lifting your legs to wash your feet. We have never seen a room like this. After complaining with Front desk we were told we would receive the king bed we paid for the next day. Come the next day we are given a double bed (they said was a Queen but it was a double bed), The bed was hard as a rock, just as comfortable as sleeping on the floor. This hotel is an insult to adult travelers. We do NOT recommend Hotel Amsterdam De Roode Leeuw to anyone.

Stayed here for 3 nights as part of a weekend break. Staff were really helpful on arrival and let us check in early and also helped us leave our bags on the last day after check out. Room was spacious, looked nice and was well maintained. Also had a comfy bed, great shower! Location is also fab, 1 minute to the nearest tram stop and most things a walkable distance away!

We’ll start this review by stating we travel constantly and do our homework when it comes to booking hotel stays to ensure we pay for what maters to us. For instance, we appreciate quality bedding, overall cleanliness and aesthetics, and a good nights sleep. Although this hotel is centrally located in the heart of the tourist area, our stay was neither relaxing or enjoyable. This hotel is very noisy. We could hear every door open and close on our floor (2nd floor) at all hours of the night and we could clearly hear every conversation in the halls and adjacent rooms. The traffic in the room(s) above us sounded like they were walking in our room and moving furniture at late hours of the night. Further, the breakfast was less than desirable and definitely NOT worth the E15 per person daily charge. We were very disappointed in the quality and limited choices. The worst part, when we checked into our room, we found many hairs on the pillows that didn’t belong to us… gross! Truthfully we feel the 4-Star rating on this hotel was grossly overstated. We do not recommend staying at this hotel unless you are without other options for lodging. Bring your earplugs!

+1
We arrived at the hotel at around 12:30pm and was advised that we had a choice of two rooms, if we waited until 3pm we could have a room with a balcony or if we wanted a room now we could have one but without a balcony. We left our suitcases at the hotel and and went out for a few hours while waiting for the room.
The room was larger than expected and had plenty of space to hang clothes. The room also featured a coffee machine.
The bathroom had heated floor and has plenty of space.
I would recommend this hotel. Very close walking distance to most top things to do in Amsterdam.

Stayed for 5 nights. Good location if you want to be in the Centraal district and all it brings. Lots of restaurants within 10 minute walk. Central train station is also 10 minutes but think twice if you have heavy luggage. Staff was eager to help - no complaints there.
Reason for the average rating was price and bathroom size. Paid €1550 for 5 nights must’ve been a holiday weekend. Got a comfort room and the bathroom was minuscule. Came from a river cruise and the bathroom on the boat was bigger. If you’re close to 6 feet your knees will touch the wall when on the toilet. Seriously consider a superior room or the Swissotel next door.

I agree w Peter 110%! Stayed here for 10 days the last 4 Christmas holidays. You will be in the heart of the City...3 doors down Albert Hein mini supermarket so handy. Immediately across street outdoor seating for cocktails and light eating. I highly recommend The Canal Museum...explains exactly how this city on water came to be-45 minutes going in different rooms seeing interactive displays as well as a mini theatre room to see a fabulous video following history right up to Peace Protests in the 60's. Just writing this makes me so jealous of your vacay. I have booked Hotel again for Christmas 2020---Have a blast!!!!!!
