Hotel Die Port van Cleve is a famous Dutch hotel located directly behind the Royal Palace & facing Dam Square. Due its central location, you will find many touristic and cultural sites within walking distance. Hotel Die Port van Cleve has a rich history. Heineken opened its first brewery in this building in 1864. Brasserie ‘De Poort’ is famous for its numbered steaks and Bar-Bodega ‘De Blauwe Parade’ has an unique Delft blue tile fresco dating from 1887. At the beginning of 2012, rooms were soft refurbished and all rooms were redecorated with references to the authentic tile fresco in the bar.

I have just returned after staying 3 nights at this hotel. The hotel is well placed right in the heart if the city. We found it easy to walk to places. We bought a tram pass which again was good as the trams stopped outside the hotel. We went on a few tours and booked them in the hotel. The Concierge was so helpful, he got the tours for us , some of them at discounted prices. He explained which direction to walk in or which tram to get. He was so helpful it made for a lovely relaxed few days. The hotel was very clean and comfortable. We took up the offer of a free cuppa and croissant each morning for breakfasr. All in all a lovely very friendly hotel. Would definately recommend.

A visit with the wife to Amsterdam for a short break. We’ve visited Amsterdam many times and always stay on or next to Dan square. This is the first time in the van cleve. We loved the hotel. Stayed in 325 room was fantastic. Lovely space and would normally offer amazing views of the city sadly however the hotel was undergoing some outside work and as such had scaffolding and dust sheets on the outside of the building. This did not take anything away from our stay. We don’t visit Amsterdam to look out of a window. The rooms were very very clean and our room was beautiful and spacious. Nice handy fridge in room and tea station. Lovely touch in morning with free croissant and coffee in restaurant and loved the refill water station. We ate in the adjoining restaurant and it was excellent the numbered steak was the best we tried in Amsterdam. I will only now return to this hotel and look forward to our next visit.

Spent 3 nights here in September and could not have asked for a better location, perfectly situated for Dam Square and not far from the train station or the Ann Frank museum. Reception staff were very friendly and helpful and the room was well maintained and very clean. Our room was at the back of the hotel and very quiet.

After five nights staying at the Die Port van Cleve in high season, I find it hard to imagine a better choice. The location of this hotel is excellent relative to access from the Central Train Station and main attractions of Amsterdam. Same for public transportation, the Tram stop is right out the door. Same for shopping, the Magna Plaza Shopping Center is literally next door. A great grocery store is on the next corner. Both on the same side of the street! You can go in four directions for sightseeing, minimum retracking for tourism. Many very good restaurants within easy walking distance (including a very good restaurant in this hotel, bar too). The staff were so friendly, helpful, etc. to us from sign-in to checkout it was really nice. Our only concern was limited luggage space in the standard room but their quick addition of luggage racks really helped and they say upgrades are scheduled for this Fall. Highly Recommended.
