Detailed Reviews
A lovely little gem of hotel, close to central station, chinatown and the northern edge of the RLD. It's very small with only 9 bedrooms but a very good simple breakfast available each morning without booking, for on €7.50. Our room was spotlessly clean for an old quirky building, and made up each day whilst we were out touring Amsterdam. Theres an honesty bar with more reasonable prices than the nearby shops. Also a book and DVD collection. Yes the stairs are steep and no lift, but even to floor 2 we found it fine, even carrying a 20Kg suitcase. The final thing are the little quirks from the Hotel's former life. Put it this way there is a lot of metalwork above the door in room 34 :) and some high quality welding in the ladder. It just adds to the lovely quirky nature of the place! Thank you!

We spent three nights in this hotel just before Christmas and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We had room 21 which offered a canal view. It was lovely to sit in the barber's chair each morning and watch the world go by on a bicycle.
We did not have breakfast at the hotel because Amsterdam was the last stop of a three week trip of European cities and we found the offerings a bit standard. That said, the price for breakfast is an excellent deal compared to what it would cost to source the same fare in any cafe.
I'd recommend Mauro Mansion to anyone who would like a small hotel with very good service.

Don't you also want to know what it would be like to stay in one of those impressive mansions at the Amsterdam canals?! Well I did and it became a great stay. Mauro Mansion has some wonderfull styled rooms(ours had an old barber chair in front of the magnificent window overlooking a Canal, a good bed etc .). It is situated in the centre of Amsterdam nearby the central station along one of the old wonderfull canals. As an experienced traveller a good bed, safety, great hospitality and a clean room are key. Starting with the lord of the mansion Berry, the man is a gem. Taking time in the morning to personally get you fresh loaf of bread and crackling eggs, advising you about Amsterdam, willing to take your have luggage up the stairs, all that and more. The neaborhood is typical Amsterdam with wonderfull old houses and good restaurant in all classes nearby. Interesting sightseeing is also nearby or easy to get there by tram. Pricing is modest and booking is easy. Surely will vit this mansion again with my wife!!!

I cannot say how lovely it was to be given a home from home in these strange times. This is the perfect time to explore Amsterdam and Mauro mansion is the perfect base. Everyone is friendly, no crowds, you can stand in front of the Nightwatch for hours.

We stayed in this hotel for two nights, and I can’t fault it at all! The hotel manager, was polite, informative and considerate. The room had a very interesting style, it was clean and tasteful. And even had a hot tub bath, which was a very nice touch. It is also less than a 5 min walk from Centraal station, and a two min walk from the red light district which makes exploring the city very easy.
This has to be the best hotel I’ve stayed in, in Europe.

Quirky room with welcome drinks and a bunch of other amenities: tea/coffee, an honesty bar, dvd collection, Rituals toiletries, etc. Perfect location from the central station - everything is in easy walking distance, yet the street is quiet. Lots of character in this hotel; would definitely recommend.

The hotel has no staff on site. They do all the job of checking in and out online.
There is no breakfast and no lobby.
The room (top floor) was tiny, with just a bed and one armchair. No desk, no wardrobe, no safe, no space to put a suitcase, no towel rack in the bathroom. Space around the bed was less than a metre on 3 sides. Everything in good order, but cheap. Smell of mould from the bathroom. Old wooden window not closing properly.
In order to secure their processes they bother me with mails before and after the stay.
All this for 165 a night for one person (in March). Even in central Amsterdam that's lousy value for money.

Great hotel, perfectly located a few minutes walk from the central train station. Located just along from the red light district on a quiet street. Comfortable beds and fantastic amenities. Welcome drinks in the fridge, honesty bar in the lounge and the bathroom stocked with the needful.
The info pack provided in the room provides and interesting history of the building!
Staff very friendly!

Well located from train station clean quirky nice breakfast. We were on the top floor. Stairs are quite steep so not for the faint hearted. Right on the canal and easily accessible to the town. Would definitely stay here again. I have recommended this to a colleague who equally loved it

But confused as to why this is number one. Maybe I expected too much after reading all the glowing reviews but I was severely disappointed. Stayed in a canal room which became very noisy at night. As for the area, my partner and I very nearly got mugged on the street outside the hotel. The room itself was ok, awful smell obviously coming from the toilet which was nauseating! One tiny wardrobe as well to store your stuff. I appreciated the free mini bar but would have to say we had little/no communication with the owners, we decided against asking them for anything after we kept getting strange looks from them when we tried to. Also as a couple travelling was disappointed to have two twin beds pushed together? Will definitely not be back and as mentioned am disappointed as I was so looking forward to the experience. Maybe I was just unlucky though as there are so many other positive reviews.

Makes the bed look so pretty! I wouldn't worry about mosquitos
