I can highly recommend this hotel. I was originally meant to be staying with my husband but circumstances changed so I took my 10 year old son instead. The rooms were small (which isn’t a negative) with a huge comfortable bed, beautifully clean and modern with everything we needed including an iPad to control the lighting and TV which my son loved operating. The hotel bar and lounge area was extremely modern with many different zones which were comfy and fun to sit in. We had a meal out and came back for a drink and hot chocolate at the bar where the staff we very attentive and kind to my son. The location was perfect too. It is just around the corner from the subway and we hired bikes so we were no further than 10 minutes from places we wanted to visit. At first I wasn’t too sure if taking my son to Amsterdam would be suitable but we had the best weekend bombing around on bikes round the streets and canals, parks and museums. The whole weekend was perfect and would definitely go back to CitizenM again – thank you!

Always a good & comfortable stay thanks to the very nice and friendly staff and well known VITRA design furniture. A big plus is the very convenient location next to public transport (subway & tram) but also within a nice walking distance of the city centre and musea!
Big plus, and new to me compared to some other CitizenM hotels where we stayed before in Amsterdam and Rotterdam, this one at the Amstel provides small fridges in the room, which is really welcoming to keep our drinks cool during summer.
Even with covid-19 measurements, the staff is very helpful and breakfast is even without the normal buffet options, a good choice at an affordable low price.
Only minus points: 2 missing lights spots in our room, so that looked a bit sloppy and the variety of choices in films to watch was too low.

Came to Amsterdam as a Xmas present from my boyfriend. Friendly staff and cosy feel to it. Walked into our room and the staff had popped 4 chocolate bars and roses down for me (just as my boyfriend asked) which was kind. Cosy little room that was perfect for our 3 night stay. The bathroom lights, TV and blinds are controlled by an iPad. Very easy to use and so modern! Free movies on the tv - along with radio, adult movies, complimentary water in the fridge, complimentary wine, a vanity light, free WiFi and lovely view with big windows. Ate downstairs and staff were fast, friendly and always there to help (food was delicious too). I haven’t got a bad word to say about this hotel, we had an amazing time and if we had stayed longer, we would have definitely spent a whole day just cosied up in the room, with a film on! Every little thing was a nice touch.. from the quotes everywhere, the little card they gave us to welcome us with a drinks voucher - written out individually and the information books supplied. We had a safe that we could set our own code on and made us feel happy leaving money in the room. So modern and the bed is massive and so comfortable. When we come back to Amsterdam (which we will), we will definitely be staying here again! Highly recommend!

Stayed at this hotel whilst visiting Amsterdam for our wedding anniversary. Lovely touch of balloons and hearts in the room, coupled with 2 free drinks at the bar. The location is great, everything is accessible and there is free bike hire so you can easily travel like a local ‘citizen’. The hotel is spotless, rooms well equipped, comfortable bed and an amazing shower. The bar and breakfast are recommended too with a good selection of food and drinks. The most impressive part of the hotel are the staff who are so friendly and attentive without being intrusive. They really can not do enough to make sure you are spoilt and have a great stay. Everyone is soo friendly it’s difficult to pin point a person, the hotel has a lovely atmosphere as a result. As we have come to discover this seems to be a theme for the CitizenM team who go above beyond in the hotels we have used. We will recommend this hotel, and the chain to friends and family wanting 5* service at an affordable price. Well done CitizenM, we will be back.

Arrived at 9:30 room not ready till 2 they kept our bags and we returned at 3:30. Checked in it is nice you need you key to access floor in elevator. The room was clean and the staff was friendly. I have stayed in rooms all over Europe and had some small rooms but this was a first. The floor space was16x5 which included the bathroom sink vanity and desk and chair. The bed was in a niche with only access at the end to crawl in. Not easy for older adults. Nice size television on the wall everything is run off an iPad which we needed to reboot often. It would have been nice if they would have taken a foot off the shower to give you two sides access to the bed. They only clean the room every three days by four on the third day they had not cleaned our room so we ask for clean towels and more toilet paper. Towels came had to call again for the paper. They say they provide water we got cups to drink out of the faucet. After five days our tiny trash can was overflowing good thing I had a paper bag. The evening before we left we went down to eat at their restaurant they had three sad looking salads. We walk down the block. Nice location we walked every where but not close to many restaurants. To be picked up you have to cross a busy bike lane two sets of tracks and watch for cars. You must be picked up across the street not in front of the hotel.

As we believe in the quality over quantity of our products, you can also see this back in the rooms. They are designed to make your stay as comfortable as possible, the room can be controlled via the iPad, the big XXL bed, and the rainwater shower. Therefore our living room functions as an extension of our rooms, with our extra comfortable sofas and art on every wall, we want you to make you feel at home as much in the room as downstairs. Via the iPad in the room, you can let us know every day if you would like to have your room cleaned or not. Every day that you do not decide to have your room cleaned we donate a small amount to our charity CitizenMovement. At the bar we have complimentary sparkling and still bottles of water, which you can ask any of our ambassadors at any moment of the day. Next to the salads which we offer in the vitrine we also offer a variety of dishes on our menu, also available 24/7. I am sorry you did not get to chance to taste them! I appreciate your kind words regarding the location of the hotel. As we are located in the city center and Amsterdam is famous for their bikes, you will find on every street bikes lanes. We are praised very lucky to only have a one-way lane for cars next to the hotel, which means that fewer cars will pass by during the night. Lovely weekend in Amsterdam and CitizenM was just as great here as it is in London. You know what you're getting. It's comfortable, clean, and if you are happy to keep it simple I think great value for money. (A word to the wise - if you're coming on a romantic getaway with someone you may not know so well....well, the wc/shower room is very cosy and almost next to the bed so privacy is not great! Intimacy definitely guaranteed so if you're trying to build on mystique and enigmatic sophistication, maybe this won't be ideal...!) Great location - you can walk to the station/city centre in 20 minutes or jump on the metro or tram just outside. Next door is an amazing bakery cafe that is perfect for healthy breakfasts. This hotel delivers on the distinctive citizenM way of approaching hospitality; friendly, tech-savvy, relaxed, compact but functional rooms. Their staff are always on hand to assist if needed, otherwise they just leave you to it. This is my kind of hotel; informal, easy breezy, no frustrating sneaky charges. If this is what you are looking for then you will not be disappointed here.
The location of the Amstel Amsterdam is away from the crowds and touristy old city centre but still within easy walking distance to most attractions. Alternatively, there are both tram and metro public transport services just outside the building. Security is of utmost concern for their guests as Amsterdam is still a busy capital city.
The rooms are compact but utilise the limited space well. Thoughtfully designed minimalist space with a safe under the bed and a fridge next to the sink! The walk-in shower unit was surprisingly large. An ipad controls the room lighting, smart tv/radio and blinds/curtains complimenting the modern feel of the hotel. The bed is massive! Each room comes with a 'room buddy' which is a sweet touch.
The housekeeping team are just as friendly and helpful as the main lobby staff. When I needed something, I didn't have to ask twice or follow up. It is the attention to detail and responsiveness that I most appreciated. You are treated as an unique individual not just another face in a sea of faces.
The buffet breakfast is an optional extra for 16.95e and includes free hot drinks all day which I think makes it worthwhile. Fresh fruits and fresh juices, yoghurts/oats, vegan options catered for, pastries, cheeses and salads. The hot food is very limited which is more in keeping with the continental breakfast style.
Overall, a great place to stay for a safe, relaxed and restful stay in bustling Amsterdam!

We stayed here for 3 nights after the COVID-19 lockdown. When we arrived, we were greeted by an amazing Welsh member of staff who instantly made us feel welcomed. The check-in is so easy and is all done contact free. The hotel was spotless, incredibly clean and there were hand sanitizers at varying locations around the hotel. The hotel room was perfect, roomy yet cosy. The bed was huge and everything was controlled via an iPad. Our iPad didn’t work however this was not a problem, as we downloaded the apps on our phones and controlled the room from there. We also forgot a travel adapter but the room had a variety of adaptor ports where we plugged in our extension lead. That is such an amazing idea!
Our room was cleaned every single day by the maid, fresh towels, clean bedding and a freshen up, which was excellent too.
You can buy public transport passes from the hotel living room, which was so easy to use! There is a tram and a metro station right outside the hotel; we used the metro to get into central station, which was only 3 stops away.
The living room/bar is also open 24/7 which was fantastic! The drinks are fab and we ordered a delicious pizza every night to take back to the room.
All of the staff were friendly, helpful and always happy! We loved our stay and have even looked at more CitizenM hotels for our next trips.

Can't go wrong with this hotel. The location is near just about all the interesting sights. Staff is super competent, professional and friendly. Never felt more welcome. They even lent us well-maintained bicycles so we could tour Amsterdam (and hope we didn't interfere with the normal bike traffic). Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
