Classic, retro and elegant. Step inside Hotel Mercier and feel at home. History relives at the straight friendly hotel with 48 rooms. The authentic style is showed in the interior. Think of Art deco, robust wooden furniture with a touch of velvet and rich prints. The lobby is built in style of the old library and feels like a second home. The monumental building on the Rozenstraat 12 at a unique location at the Jordaan in Amsterdam is the place to be for sleeping, dining, working or meetup with locals. The philosophy of Helena Mercier, founder of ‘Ons Huis’ was to bring the neighborhood together, learn from each other and enjoy time together. Hotel Mercier will capture this in our heart.

Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.

Booked a quiet deluxe room, eventhough the room was nice and comfortable it wasn't quiet. All night I could hear a buzzing sound from what I guess is the electricity from the air conditioning. Furthermore, the service was not a wished. Was welcomed by receptionist, who seemed annoyed, but still nice. I had to pay a deposit (not clearly mentioned when booking), which is annoying as there were no minibar in the room. Luckily I asked for breakfast on the day of arrival as the prices differs according to when you ask. Book the day before and the price is "only" 15 euros, its 20, when booking the same day. The breakfast was ok, nothing special. However 2 waiters came to me, while eating to confirm my room number - I guess they needed to make sure I paid. These things I would expect from a discount hotel, but that is not what I paid for. I will not book again.

Hotel Mercier is located on Rozenstraat, about a block from Westermarkt (a tram stop) and a couple blocks from the Anne Frank house. It is about 200 feet from Prinsengracht (a canal) and close to de 9 Straatjes, a very nice area. As one who wanted to be relatively close to the main attractions but does not like noise at night, the location was ideal. We had a deluxe room which was in a building that was less than ten feet from the main building. It had two twin beds together, a spacious shower in a modern bathroom and a small built-in couch in an entrance area that was separated from the bed area by glass. Hotel staff were very helpful, including getting cabs and advising on where to catch a public transport bus to Zaanse Schans, where windmills are located. Without question, I would stay there again.

Pros: perfect location in the Jordaan neighborhood; quiet street; great breakfast selection; beautiful decoration; quiet rooms (didn't hear neighbors); very friendly staff; very comfortable bed. Cons: interior room (210) window looked out onto a wall-- LITERALLY ; asked twice for toilet paper and never got any -- went to AH and bought our own; breakfast was understaffed -- one person managing the entire dining room; bar mixed drinks seemed weak True, the cons were minor and could have probably been resolved with more staffing. A pleasant but not perfect stay

Cons: Check-In was not good. I was not recognized even though I booked the room. We were two guests and both had to pay a deposit despite having been charged the first night on my credit card. Staff was not helpful. Windows can not be opened. Not even ajar. No door to the bathroom. No fridge to store cold drinks or water. The room was smaller then I expected from the fotos and description. Pros: Location is excellent. The design is good. The restaurant is good. Check-out was good. Best of all: The cocktail bar "Ons Huis" is amazing. Or rather the head mixologist is a gem. She sources organic ingredients and mixes the most amazing cocktails. This cocktail bar should be on a list of best cocktail bars.

Dear Sketcher26, Thank you for reviewing your stay at Hotel Mercier. We greatly value your feedback as we continuously aim to improve our services. First of all, I am happy that you were satisfied with the style and decoration of the Hotel Mercier and Ons Huis. However, I would like to apologize for the inconvenience you have experienced during check-in. And I would like to inform that we are not allowed to open the windows due to governmental reasons. Naturally, this should not occur and I will closely review your feedback with the team to discuss how we can prevent this from happening again.

Hi MaryAnn, The hotel is on Rozenstraat street which is one short block down from Raadhuisstraat which is a major bus and tram transit street. Amsterdam is flat and we walked everywhere but if you googlemap the city you will see the bus and tram lines that go all over. We caught our canal boat tour just a short ways up the canal from the Anne Frank House and bought our tickets at a tourist office just a few doors down from there. We only speak English and had no problems in the city. We also had great weather which really helped us enjoy the town. We did a free walking tour and also did the Rijkmuseum, the Dutch Resistance Museum and wandered around the old town sections. The hotel is on the edge of the Jordaan which is mostly a local residential section so it was nice walking around that area and seeing schools and kids and people doing normal daily activities. Once you crossed over to the Anne Frank side of the Prinsengraacht Canal it was more of a tourist, retail and business area.

I can not answer how the bridal suite is ( its 35 years since I used one ) But the hotel in general is quiet and I have no doubt it will not disappoint you. The area is quiet being just on the edge of shops and places.

Hello! It'a a historical building, and there is a lift but sometimes also some stairs to go up or down the so-called "inbetween floors". To make sure you don't get a room on those floors, best to ask the reception or beforehand. It's a really nice hotel! Enjoy!

There are stairs to get into the hotel from the street. There may be a mobility lift for these stairs, or an alternative entrance, but I haven't noticed. In general, the centre of Amsterdam has historical buildings with lots of stairs, it will be very difficult to get around for people with mobility requirements. I'd advise you to look into the newly built hotels near the railway station - there's a Mariott, and couple of others, overlooking canals.
