I stayed in the Alp Hotel a while back and I had the most awful experience with the receptionist, as far I know he was the owner's son. There were 4 of us staying at the hotel (we booked 2 rooms, 2 people staying in each), upon check in we were lead to our rooms, we asked were

Response from Alp Hotel A, Receptionist at Alp Hotel Amsterdam
Responded 5 days ago
Dear Ms Simpson, We are sorry to hear you had a bad experience at our hotel. As we recall you stayed with us 3 or 4 years ago. At that time you visited the hotel with friends. Beforehand 2 of your friends booked a room with bubblebath & balcony and you and another friend booked a small room . There is a big difference between those room types in regard to the amount of space and facilities. The small twin room is 10 square meters and has no balcony. The other room is an 18 square meters twin with balcony and bubblebath. Hence the price difference between these room types. (This can also be seen on the confirmation of your booking). At check-in our female receptionist gave your group the room keys and explicitly showed where the bigger room and the smaller room were. And you paid seperately for the rooms. At that moment you could already know there was a difference with the price and room type as seen on the check-in sheet). Within your group you divided the room keys. You chose to stay in the bigger room, although you booked the smaller room and you knew you paid 3 nights for the smaller room and only 2 nights for the bigger room. That is why, after your friends checked out, you needed to relocate. You made a complaint about this, we explained the situation and offered a bottle of wine on the house (Even though it wasn't our fault). Moreover after your friends checked out, they found out you booked the smaller room instead of them and asked you to pay the price difference back for the bigger room. Then you decided to blaim the hotel for your problem. You came down to the reception and made a scene in front of our receptionist. Other guests were bothered by what was going on at the reception and our receptionist was quite flooded as you stayed down for hours to yell at her. That's when the assistant-manager stepped in and it was decided to give you back €30 for your friends (the price difference between the big and small room). Even though you hadn't overpayed for the room. We are sorry this incident has bothered you so much, but if you had been honest with your friends and with the hotel at check-in, your problem could have been avoided. We hope to be able welcome you at our hotel if you ever return to Amsterdam.

Wow...what a great experience we had at Alp Hotel. I chose this because it was budget but looked so nice. I wasn't wrong. It is an absolute gem of a family run, intimate hotel. It far exceeded our expectations and we will most certainly be back there again. Ideal for both work

My partner and I visited here to celebrate my 30th birthday and our anniversary. Our room was Amstel, a double with a balcony. Even in December it’s handy to have a balcony if you’re a smoker!! We arrived quite late on after getting lost (in fact the only downside to this hotel

I would gladly give this hotel a 5 , the people were great, the room was very clean and the breakfast was good but we were on the 4th floor, there is no elevator and the stairs are dark and steep. I know this is Amsterdam but if you have any mobility issues I would recommend

Is this hotel suitable for a stay with a 6 month old baby?
Hi there, As a mom with older kids (I remember those days with the little ones!) I think I would have been very intimidated by the stairs, especially if you have a lot of stuff to carry up. That being said, the rooms are a decent size compared to other Amsterdam hotels in that price range and the city tram has a stop right in front of the hotel, so it makes it pretty easy to get around the city. The people who run the place are so nice and as a parent, you will have a hassle free and really good breakfast and coffee every morning right there in the hotel, so for me, that is always a bonus!

are there hair dryers in the rooms?
Hi Michelle, there was a hair dryer in the bathroom but I did not use it, I used the shower cap so did not try out the hair dryer - sorry - there was one there but if it was any good I don't know.
