Novotel Amsterdam City frequently earns praise for its cleanliness, with guests often commending the tidy rooms and public spaces. Its prime location near trams and trains makes it a hit for those looking to explore Amsterdam. While the rooms offer comfort, opinions vary on their style and the overall atmosphere, with some describing the ambiance as basic.
The staff's service has received mixed reviews, with notable mentions of both friendliness and occasional unprofessional behavior. Additionally, concerns about high additional charges and the cost of meals have led some to question the hotel's value.

Detailed Reviews
We stayed for 4 nights in December and we took advantage of the free breakfast offer at their website. We found the price very reasonable and we were very delighted about the quality of breakfast provided. There were renovation work when we were staying but such didn't bother us too much.
The location is near RAI station and there are lot of transport options for guests to travel to the city.
A tip for driving travelers, there're quite a number of outdoor public carpark outside the hotel so you don't need to pay for the hefty parking fee.

I visited the Novotel hotel on 4th August 2020 with my sister and daughter and stayed for 3 nights. Giving concerns about COVID, I was pleased to note the high level of cleanliness in the hotel, screens to shield set up in reception, and hand sanitizers dotted everywhere as well as markers on the ground for social distancing. The reception staff were great; special mention to Hester who all through our stay was helpful, informative, and went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable. We stayed in the renovated Queen room and as is typical for Novotel standards, the beds were comfy, the bathroom spacious and I particularly enjoyed the rainfall shower need after each day spent exploring Amsterdam. In terms of transport links, you can take a Metro from Schipol airport straight to Amsterdam RAI station which is a 5mins walk to the hotel. You also have a tram stop close by so 2 options to get into central Amsterdam which a maximum journey time of say 15mins. If you need to buy essentials there is a Dirk supermarket about 12mins walk from the hotel. We preferred not to stay in the bustle of central Amsterdam and the Novotel was a perfect affordable choice. We didn't eat in the hotel as we were out a lot but their menu looked good. All in all, I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it.

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
I had my concerns to travel again, but wow Novotel exceeded my expectations! Only in the train I had to wear a facemask but in the hotel everything was fine. Rooms look brand new and staff was very friendly. I felt totally safe during my stay, during check-in the staff asked some safety questions and everywhere I had the chance to disinfect my hands and everywhere there were signs on the ground to make sure there is enough space between people. The only recommendation I would give to the hotel is to provide more amenities in the hotel room. Would definitely come back to the hotel if I need to be in Amsterdam.

We booked for a few nights away as part of my birthday, the room we booked was a deluxe double room which came with robes, slippers and a mini bar. The room was absolutely spotless and extremely clean. When checking in I asked if it would be possible to get the room early as myself and my boyfriend had caught an early flight but because of the time of year we were told that this wouldn't be possible but we were able to leave our luggage there until check in was due. The gentleman that first took my details asked if it was any special occasion in which I mentioned it was my birthday the day after we arrived. The gentleman wished me a happy birthday and wrote it on the booking. Once we had been out in Amsterdam city centre all day, we returned to the hotel to check in, once we had checked in i was handed a leaflet which enabled myself and my boyfriend to enjoy a drink each free of charge because of the occasion. On my Birthday once we had returned to the room after a day in the city we were greeted by a fruit selection, chocolate bars and a hand written card from the hotel wishing me a happy new year and a happy birthday. All in all I couldn't recommend this hotel enough as they really did make it special and a real home away from home.

I booked a Standard room via the hotel's own app for a weekend away. Due to timing of flights I arrived quite early, but was delighted to find that not only was I able to check in, but was given an upgrade to an Executive room on the top floor as they had run out of standard rooms.
The room was clean and comfortable with coffee maker and mini-bar. No bath, just a large shower. The view was ok, better weather would have helped but that's not the hotel's fault. From my window I could see over the Amstelpark, motorway and the railway.
The hotel is located about 5 minutes walk from Amsterdam RAI station, which has frequent metro and tram services to the city centre, depending where you want to get to it's about 15 - 30 minutes journey. The airport similarly is about 10 minutes train ride away from this station.
Overall I was left with a good impression. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the coffee bar had a reasonable selection of gluten-free goodies.

I'd inadvertently booked during a conference, and I feel that this is likely to be the reason I paid a high price for the room, as the price dropped substantially after the first night, to a level that I'd consider more reasonable. Worth checking the daily rate, versus the rate for the whole stay, if you have this level of flexibility.
The room was not large, and we needed a cot, and once that was in situ, there wasn't a lot of space to move around. We also learned a lesson, in that there was only a shower, not a bath, which would have been fine if we hadn't had a baby with us, but that's on us. Part of the learning curve.
The location was in most respects pretty good. We were visiting for the Floriade Expo, and the station to take us to Almere, which also took us straight to and from Schiphol Airport, was right on the doorstep. There is also a regular tram service that takes you on quite a scenic route into the city centre, taking about 40 minutes. I wouldn't discount this location if you have specific things you want to do, and these are accessible via public transport.
On the downside, this location doesn't have a lot else. The Amstel Park is just over the road, and there are a few restaurants within a fairly easy walk of ten to fifteen minutes. This might be less appealing in the depths of winter, when it's raining, than it was on a mild summer's evening, though.
I thought the staff did a good job. They were friendly and efficient, and you wouldn't really be aware that the hospitality industry is struggling, in terms of personnel, as it is in many other places. The place is well run.
Another thing that troubled me was the prominent sign 'No Cash, Card Only' on the door. This is clearly yet another place that has used the Covid-19 pandemic to bring in a policy that might be convenient for the hotel, but not for its customers. It is applied throughout, including in the cafeteria and the bar, and I think this might possibly make me consider other options if I'm minded to stay in that part of the city again.

- cheat on room service charge, Adding item we never ordered/received. when pointed out via email/message (hotel preferred comm. channel in corona), there’s no reply/feedback. Until i had to complained again, directly to receptionist.
- breakfast was pitiful. A tray of 3 stale bread, 2 fruits, 1 boiled egg, 2 slices of hams and cheese in cheap plastic wrap, a watered down small glass of juice... every morning they tried to sell a 5 eur fried egg.... what a cheap act!
- Employees were impolite, some looks demotivated and bored working there. Bartender refused to served welcome drink just because we entered from “wrong side” of the bar... never been turned down in any hotel, novotel is the new low and i’ll make sure to never stay there anymore!

Novotel
The hotel is located one stop past the airport and a short walk from RAI station. There are not a lot of food options close by, but we did find a Domino’s and a small grocery. They hotel breakfast was 22 euros (children under 16 are free). The breakfast was great with lots of pastry, meat, fruit, cereals, cheese, etc.. Our connecting rooms were nice with TV (with English channels), ample USB outlets, bottle water, mini fridge, and a bathtub (one of our rooms did not have a tub, just a shower - neither had wash rags). There is a Stach Cafe in the lobby, which is not cheap - 6 euros for drink and a 6 euros for a small bag popcorn (not to mention that they over charged me.) There is also a small souvenir shop with reasonable prices, but not not as cheap as the street stalls.
FYI - We usually go to a bank ATM when we arrive, but most of Amsterdam’s banks now partner with Geldautomat who charge a large foreign conversion fee. Most places take credit cards, but some street vendors do not.

Dear Ms. Amanda, Thank you for taking the time to rate your stay. We're delighted to hear that you found our staff helpful and friendly, as we strive to provide exceptional service to all our guests. It's also wonderful to know that you were able to enjoy our comprehensive breakfast selection, which indeed caters to a variety of tastes and preferences. We appreciate your positive comments about the room amenities, including the availability of USB outlets and a mini fridge for your convenience. While we ensure that the pricing is competitive with other city establishments, we understand that value perception can vary, and we're sorry for any inconvenience caused. We also acknowledge your feedback regarding the bathtub and wish to clarify that while one of our room types features a bathtub, all our rooms are equipped with a shower to provide a comfortable stay for all our guests. Stayed here for 2 nights to attend an event at the RAI Amsterdam. The hotel was only a €4 train ride from the airport station, very convenient! From the station the hotel was just down the road.
For visiting the city centre there was a tram a very short walk from the hotel which took you directly to the centre within about 17mins, which flew by.
The hotel itself had great friendly staff, good restaurant, clean, modern and tidy rooms with a massive tv. Only criticism is that room service prices were expensive. Wanted a small snack but even the tomato soup was €9, a little steep! Overall great stay would 100% recommend.

A good hotel in a quiet neighborhood.
A bit far from the center, but you have the train, metro, tram and bus 5 min away and can rent bikes at the reception.
The rooms are nice and spacious
We did not put 5 stars, because we ordered a pizza for 16€, it was small and pretty mediocre to the taste (probably frozen food…)
