Unique and elegant, the legendary hotel is reborn, after several months of an ambitious undertaking nurtured by the creativity of Philippe Starck and La Réserve’s vision of excellence. La Réserve Eden au Lac Zurich is a majestic building standing proud, serene, solid and calm like the wonderful days that have passed since it first opened on the lakeshore 100 years ago. Times are changing and Philippe Starck has come along with a subtly artistic and rebellious touch. He has in fact deconstructed Eden au Lac to better rebuild it for tomorrow, even closer to its true nature. From the 40 rooms and suites, to the restaurant and the bar, everything has been redesigned to offer guests a refined and timeless experience, true to La Réserve’s values of excellence, authenticity and simplicity.

Detailed Reviews
The hotel has definitely been upscaled with the renovation. The location is perhaps the best part of this property with its wonderful views over the lake. The rooms are comfortable but not without issues. For example, the sink in the WC is a postage stamp and there is nowhere to hang a hand towel. If you get a room near the DJs (lobby or roof ones) good luck trying to sleep! And there is an unevenness with the service. The servers on the roof run around in a very disorganized way and forget what you ordered. But the views are truly a treat.
Overall, the excessive number of interns relative to seasoned hotel staff is a problem for a 5 star property. Being constantly told "let me get back to you" regarding basic information that should be common knowledge for all personnel, is not a good sign. On the other hand, there is much to commend. The burger in the lobby level restaurant is fantastic and the elephant art in your morning cappuccino is a lovely touch. The hotel also did a great job with Covid-19 precautions providing a box of masks and hand sanitizer in the room. In time, no doubt, the teething problems of a newly-opened property will be ironed out.

Stayed for 3 nights on our first trip to Zürich. Newly refurbished hotel in a 100+ year old building and the finishes and detail are first class.
Had a room with a terrace overlooking the lake which was amazing. Location is great. A short walk or tram ride to anywhere.
The service was outstanding. The team could do enough. The room was fantastic and luxuriously comfortable with special little things to make it personal. And every time I saw or spoke to someone they called me by name.
The view from the bath tub would have to be one of the best in Zurich albeit I didn’t use it.
I love a good shower in a hotel and with high pressure from 3 different nozzles made washing the day away even better.
Complimentary soft drink in the minibar and a scent thru the property that I wanted to bottle and take with me.
Loved every bit of it!
If I had to challenge something, pricing for food is very high but that seems to be Zürich. Quality of food and service was good.
I’d definitely stay here again in a heartbeat.

had dinner 1 week ago and I have to see this is not where the hotel would like to be.
Service was all over the place (bringing 1 of the mains while the other person had too wait) and meat was nearly cold.
The price of wine on the list if a little outrageous and mostly only from the vineyard of the owner.... conflict of interest !!!
inside hotel is so lovely and well done but they really need to up their game in terms of service and quality of the food.
people in the restaurants were mostly chicky Micky and place lacks some diversity.
We urge the hotel management to balance the type of clients they would like to attract.

Always keen to try new restaurants around Zurich and happy to splash money on food and drinks.
But the restaurant and bar at the newly-opened Eden au Lac in Zurich should absolutely adjust their price policy for drinks and food.
CHF 7 for an espresso, coming from a NESPRESSO machine:
Dear Eden, striving for 5* excellence in Hotellerie service while using a NESPRESSO machine in your bar and restaurant, are you serious? Engaging with Philip Starck and calling yourself “a yacht club”, why don’t you invest in a good coffee machine and serve your guests a nicely made flat white or soothing espresso? Every hippster coffee shop in Kreis 5 is not that stingy and invests in a good Marzocco machine.
CHF 38 for a vegan burger:
How can the price for lentils be justified here? The traditional beef cheeseburger costs CHF 43, only a few francs more.
CHF 63 for a Zurigeschnetzeltes:
It’s meat covered in sauce, a traditional dish that doesn’t require big cooking skills. To justify that price, I suppose the veil had a PhD or some other academic title. My friend had the Zurigeschnetzeltes, I tried a bit, and was happy I haven’t ordered it.
In general, the menu lacks originality to give me the “wow” effect and to stand out in the restaurant scene. Burger, Caesar salad, tatar, risotto, spaghetti, entrecôte.
Nothing that defines the kitchen and the cook in any special way.
However, to add something positive, the interior is nice and very cosy. While money was saved in creating an original menu and getting a good coffee machine, the hotel splashed money on a collaboration with Philip Starck and you can see the result.
My tip: Improve your menu, get a proper coffee machine(!) and adjust the prices to meet the standards what you are actually serving on the plate.

Eden au Lac was fully rejuvenated to join the Michel Reybier constellation of Swiss luxury urban resorts. As expected, all staff members are genuinely nice, courteous and really helpful which seems to be the signature of this
privately owned small chain. Rooms are relatively small but very comfortable with oversized bathrooms. The rooftop bar and restaurant is worth the trip with presumably the best view in this area. Rooms on the first floor have an extensive terrace but the noise of the lakeside road is slightly invasive. A nice retreat, a few blocks from the Bellevue public transportation hub.

La Reserve Eden Au Lac,
Zurich
A very exclusive, well appointed restaurant. Do make an appointment and book a table in advance.
As you enter the place a hostess will graciously take your coat to hang it in the cloak room.
Our server was a cheerful young man, fluent in English. Such a help to be able to converse and order our meal. Our group ordered different dishes. And each was cooked to perfection. And the plating of each dish was exquisite.
I enjoyed the lamb shoulder. Moist and tender.

Newly renovated by Stark, perfectly situated by the lake. City center can be reached by walking and lake side rooms offer a beautiful view. Busy street right below the window makes sleeping with open window difficult. Prestige Balcony Room is priced at 1000 sfr: Room size was small with a disproportionately large bathroom. Very small sitting area with 2 regular chairs, no place to relax (other than bed). Bed is excellent quality. Still overpriced, you’ll find equal standards, quality and view for less (as in BeauRivage Palace in Lausanne, for example).

The location of this new hotel couldn't be better, right on the Lake, a stone's throw from old town and the city centre. We loved the Philippe Starck interior design, and the Lake view rooms offered stunning views, albeit a little cramped, if you need an extra bed like us. The food was fantastic and the small roof top terrace for drinks overlooking the lake was the perfect place for an aperitivo. It's pricey but was a lovely respite in the middle of COVID when travelling anywhere too far was off the cards.

Don’t let the reviews fool you. La Reserve in Zurich is a world away from other hotels of Reybier’s we’ve stayed. Unfortunately, not in a good way, in any sense if the word. If you’d like to stay with trash with new cash, mediocre middle class service, and subpar food— be our guest and step here.
If you appreciate refinement, a respectable kitchen/dining program, dignified and classy staff/service as is the norm of other hotels expected in this range, I recommend you investigate Living Circle’s several hotels in Zurich, Dolder, Bauer au Lac, or other options. We were horrified and quite surprised at the **clientele**, **staff**, maintenance, and subpar food/beverage program. Zurich has so much to offer. Don’t make the mistake of being fooled by reviews by Condé Nast and other otherwise relatively reliable sources, or by Reybier’s other, more refined/enjoyable establishments. The experience felt like what one might expect from a €100-200/night tourist hotel. This was the trashiest establishment we’ve stayed at, over all our travels. Horrified.

The Decision:
I decided on this property for its strategic location by the lake, and the La Reserve reputation to assure a wonderful experience.
When I called and found out about the meal offer they were running with the stay it pushed me over the edge.
The Check in:
My check in was smooth, warm and welcoming, and after a restful night I decided to upgrade to a room with lake view and balcony.
The Upgrade:
How should I begin…the Philippe Starck decor puts you in a tranquil mood, but the bed took me to “Cloud 9” and make me feel as if I was suspended in a dream. The sumptuous bathroom with the tub facing the lake reaffirmed my believe in a higher power. Making my own coffee and sitting on my balcony was another lovely perk. I liked it so much I extended my stay to a total of six nights. :)
I must say the Weather Gods were on my side for I was blessed with sunshine every day.
The Tastebuds:
Let’s move to the restaurant now, due to recent unprecedented events I have not been in a restaurant for months, it was quite an exciting moment to sit like a civilised person and have gracious lovely humans serving your meaIs, I was afraid I forgot how to properly behave, but it all somehow came back to me.
Marco, the head chef is truly a culinary maven, I ate there for all meals for six days and every bite was made with love and flare. I was so intrigued by the combination of textures and flavours, what can I say, my culinary skills obviously could never compare but it gave me a new outlook in possibilities and improved my tastebuds, Grazie Marco!
Finally:
I wish I could remember the names of all the staff, but here are some I would like to mention and thank, Isabelle, Lena, Alex, Marco, Lukas, Clemens, Sofia, Ruth.
These days authentic kindness is a luxury and at La Reserve Eden au Lac it is abundant.
This is certainly the address in Zurich to assure a blissful stay.

Yes they do have both
The beds in the Jr suites are comfortable. Its a traditional hotel so the rooms and beds are not huge. Go in for the lake-facing rooms. The corner Jr suites are nice, and the bathroom has a standalone shower. In the regular doubles they have a handheld shower in the bath. Breakfast is excellent. There are many restaurants within walking distance. Try Frascati on the lake. (3 min walk). Enjoy Zurich...
Hi Connie
The beds are the same size as far as I know. The shower is a normal shower, not just a hand-held. The breakfast is good, and there is an in-house restaurant as well. There are plenty of other restaurants nearby including just across the street. I hope this answers your questions
