If you are running on a lower budget but do not want to stay at a hostel or b&b, this is the perfect place.
I was surprised by the quality of everything, expecting a cheap 1 star hotel:
the interior is high quality, great matresses and bedding, super clean and modern, you even have the fancy swiss made soaps from Soeder in every room and shower for free use.
The staff was very friendly and helpful and there is a great lounge overviewing the river where you can also get a coffee (just be aware the the reception and lounge are closed in the afternoon).
There is no food available but, it being a 1 star hotel , I did not except any of that and you are in the center of the old town with loads of restaurants, coffeeplaces and bars.
The shared bathroom and toilet on the floor was very clean, just 3m away from my room and I never had to queue (I also did not bump into other guests).
My room was facing the front (river), the view was amazing.
I did sleep very well, even though you sometimes hear some of the city life: the tram upfront (until midnight) or if there are some louder party groups passing the street. But again, I didn't mind, I mean you are in the very center of a city.
Super happy with the find, as I have to stay in Zürich every other month for a night.
I will definately come back.

Hi, We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us and especially our good quality for price. As you wrote correctly we see ourself as a good alternative somewhere between a hostel and a b&b even though we do not offer breakfast or any food but we are happy to give you tons of recommendations on where to enjoy a great breakfast closeby. We happily look forward to welcoming you again. Best wishes,

This hotel is a steal in the heart of Zurich old town, right in front of the Zurich Lake. It is a short walk to the train station, and bus stops right in front of the hotel. The room is basic but functional. They also have tea rooms at the reception floor where you can sit, work, have tea/coffee, water, with a fridge. You can walk everywhere in the beautiful Zurich old town. And the price is a steal in Zurich, particularly given the location. Look no further. This is the best deal in town!

Great location and really nice staff! The hotel was really charming as well, and clean hotel rooms. Great option for solo travellers or anyone who whishes to stay close to the main attractions. I will definitely come back whenever I visit Zürich again☺️

The location is very convenient (walking distance) to the Central Train Station and Old Town attractions. Lodging was generally clean and staff as helpful as Zurich locals are to travelers from the United States. The outer doors were locked for security when no staff were present and staff were on site most of the day time hours.

Yes, there is no hiding the fact that the Krone Pop-up has gone to great lengths to keep their prices as low as possible, but for the most part it is a well-run and comfortable base for short stays.
The rooms and communal lounge are inviting, stylish and well-kept. The building is many centuries old, and traces its various incarnations are visible in these areas, giving it a quirky character. The views across the river to the old town are also beautiful. A hotel in this price category so close to HB is obviously a rarity, let alone one with nice perks like this. The WiFi was incredibly fast and stable.
Late check-in worked perfectly. The hotel has a slick system for online check-in and the key dispenser at the entrance worked without a hitch. The Assistant Manager was really helpful and welcoming by e-mail in advance.
To be fair, my stay was on a Sunday night, so the cleaning frequency may have been lower than usual, but the communal toilets and showers were not in great shape. They clearly are not designed for how intensely they are used, nor are they cleaned often enough for it. There's nothing worse in a communal shower than a moist shower curtain and no space to avoid it. Add to that the hair, sticky residue and grubby towel on the floor, and suddenly the room price doesn't seem like such a bargain. The solution is so simple: a pile of fresh floor towels and basket for used ones, plus some Mr. Clean for self-service cleaning during unmanned hours. The Soeder toiletries were lovely though!
Arriving late on a hot day also proved to be unlucky, because I arrived to an overheated, stuffy room with no time to let it cool down before going to bed. The adjacent bar really is loud, but not much of a hindrance to sleep because it seems to close early (some time around midnight, on Sunday at least). The facing building across the narrow alley is very close and looks directly into the room, limiting the privacy and therefore how open you can leave the windows to let fresh air in. So, all-in-all the sleep quality was just too low. The heat, noise and lack of privacy made for a restless night.
I just needed a place to spend 7 hours between my flight arriving late at night and then my train departing early the next morning, and the Krone Pop-up was the pragmatic choice for that. I wouldn't consider it for work trips - the sleep quality isn't good enough - but it could be a sociable, good-value base for leisure trips during the week.

I had to book Hotel Krone last minute due to a friend whom I was visiting contracting covid. The booking process, communication and collection of key was seamless. I can't thank Karin enough, she answered all my questions and also helped organise late checkout so I could have a work meeting in the morning. The hotel has a hotel/hostel vibe the benefits of a hostel in that it has communal areas if you want them, cheap rates and is in the heart of town, but with a hotel finish with modern rooms, Soeder soap and shampoo and ultra comfy beds. The shared bathroom situation wasn't and issue for me at all and I felt very safe in the property.

The location is great, the reception is also nice and helpful. The rooms are minimalist but have everything you need and fit the concept.
Extremely noisy, room 39 is next to a toilet, we heard the toilet flushing all night, I've never experienced anything like it. I had to leave early in the morning (6:30) and, as discussed with reception, I put the card in the card box at the entrance, at 10:30 I got an email saying that they couldn't find the card and that they would only charge 10 CHF for it. When I asked them to check again because I was 100% sure, they simply didn't respond to my message.
Perhaps it's a rip-off, if anyone else has had the same experience please let me know!

The hotel is very well located in the old town of Zurich and has easy access to public transport and close to the central station. The negative is that it does not include breakfast and the bathrooms are shared, which is not related to the price compared to other similar hotels.
