Detailed Reviews
My husband and I stayed here in December on a weekend break to Zurich, we were not disappointed. It's a gorgeous smallish hotel located on a side street more or less on the river and close to all attractions, shops and restaurants. It is about a ten-minute walk from the Railway Station and the main shopping street. We were warmly welcomed by Maggie who gave us maps and lots of advice on the city. The room we had was spacious and spotlessly clean with a gorgeous bathroom. Breakfast was served in a cosy little dining room and there was a great choice of both hot and cold foods. Gluten-free options were available. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and we had a brilliant stay. I would HIGHLY recommend.

Everything was perfect at this lovely hotel! The room was perfectly appointed with 2 twin beds that could be moved together or separated. Bedding was luxurious and comfortable. The bathroom had a tub and was probably one of the largest I’ve seen in Europe. Best part was the location - right on the canal and central to all the best sites in Zurich. I would also be remiss if I did not mention the amazing front desk personnel who could not have been any more helpful. Don’t hesitate to book The Helmhaus when you visit Zurich!

The location of the hotel is very convenient, its a walking distance to most landmarks in Zurich and only a 10-15 min walk to the main station.
The rooms are very clean and spacious enough, nothing to complain about.
The reception were always attentive and helpful, especially Meggie! She was delightful and gave us useful advice as young travellers for our future trips.
Prices are good, especially considering it is in the Zurich center. Definitely recommend.

Hotel Helmhaus was the first hotel we stayed at during our trip to Switzerland and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. We arrived in the evening after a long flight and the check in process was quick and easy. The gentleman who checked us in was kind and made us feel welcome. The hotel is centrally located, the main attractions and train station can easily be reached by foot. There is no doubt that we picked the right hotel for our stay in Zurich and I would easily recommend it to anyone and everyone.

Rooms are modern and spacious, with everything you need--bathrobes, slippers, hair conditioner, a room safe, plenty of storage; an easy walk to dozens of restaurants and exclusive shops, yet tucked away in a quiet area. The staff is warm and welcoming and breakfast is very good, with plenty of selection. There is always complimentary coffee/tea available in a quiet lounge area. The hotel is a manageable 10/15-minute walk from the train station or you can catch the #4 bus which drops you steps from the front of the hotel. Note: on the lower level of the train station, you'll find plenty of shops, restaurants and bakeries as well.

We booked our 2 night stay at Helmhaus 5 months prior to arriving for a rate of $487 per night.
We were greeted by very friendly and professional staff. They offered to help us with our luggage and explained everything about our stay, the room and surrounding area.
The room (#42) was small but very well appointed. We all had twin beds, but my husband’s and mine were pushed together, while our daughter’s was up against the wall.
The closet space and space in the bathroom were impressive, especially considering the small size of the city hotel, which is located in a very convenient area to restaurants, shops, the train station and museums.
There is a wall of windows which let in good amount of light.
The shower drain didn’t work very well. It was also a little tricky to get the water at a comfortable temperature. It was very hot at the midpoint.
The complimentary breakfast was excellent as were the staff there. Delicious offerings of eggs, meats, yogurt, cheeses, granola, breads and pastries. There was also the ability to easily get coffee or tea 24/7
One main complaint, the air conditioning did not work. We suspected it was because the hotel is so old..1356! Also, we happen to be staying in the summer, so I assume during any other time of year the temperature inside is not a problem. But the nights were sticky and uncomfortable. They may want to consider offering standing fans.
I would stay here again and recommend it to others.

We had a short stay in Zürich. I made the reservation with American Airlines points. It always stresses me out to make a reservation outside of directly with the hotel. Everything worked out great. No problems with that. Hotel Helmhaus is close to the train station, but if you don't feel like walking, there's a tram stop from the HB to a block from the hotel. As with a lot of European cities, there are cobblestones, just as an fyi for your roller bags. We had a great welcome from Mr. Koch. Super fun and lovely to chat with especially on a late arrival after a day of traveling. Our room was very clean. I always prefer wood flooring to carpet. Our bed was very comfortable with nice bedding. The room is big enough where it doesn't feel like you're always in each other's way. The shower had good water pressure. We liked having control of our AC. There's also coffee and tea available 24/7 and an honesty bar where you can get snacks and beer that you sign out and they charge at the end check out. Very convenient that there doesn't have to be a person available to buy something from. We had breakfast included. There were lots of choices, really something for everyone. There were also a variety of juices instead of just orange juice. The location is prime. It's right by restaurants and close to the lake and the river. Definitely recommend.

Hotel Helmhaus is a great hotel which is very well-run. My husband and I loved this small hotel with its beautiful and stylish rooms. Even though it was quite warm in Zurich, the air conditioning was excellent and our room was a quiet and cool refuge from the noise of the city. The service standard of the hotel is very high, with the owner being actively involved in the operations of the hotel and a staff of employees all eager to help the people staying in the hotel with whatever is needed, ranging from directions to the attractions of Zurich to recommending restaurants. The breakfast was outstanding with fresh fruits, cereals, breads, meats and cheeses along with delicious coffee. We had a great time there and were sorry to leave! Hotel Helmhaus is an example of what a hotel should be!

We were booked into this hotel for one night by our travel company and overall we enjoyed our stay. The room was very elegantly furnished and the bathroom toiletries provided were divine. The bed too was very comfortable. We received a very warm welcome from Marianne and a welcome glass of wine too,
The only let down for us, which is just for feedback purposes, though I did mention this when checking out, was the rudeness/confusion we met with in the breakfast room. We mentioned on checking in that we would have to check out for an early train before the official breakfast time of 8am and asked what arrangements there would be for the breakfast for which we had paid. We were told that we should go to the breakfast room “and see what there was available”.
The next morning we went to the breakfast room to get a hot drink, as there aren’t any kettles in the room to make your own and were told hot drinks would be available there 24/7. Upon entering, the lady organising breakfast told us “you are too early”. When we told her we had to leave early and we would like at least a drink, she said OK. As I was waiting for the drink, I walked around to see the few items that had so far been put out and she sternly told me “it is not open yet”. As we had told reception and this lady that we were having to leave early, the least we expected may have been the offer off a croissant or pastry to go…but no, we were left feeling that we were trying to get something we were not entitled to. So, unfortunately, we left your nice hotel on a very sour note.

Dear patriciawY6303VL We appreciate your comments and are sorry to hear about the experience you had in the breakfast room. Your feedback is valuable to us as we strive to provide excellent service to all our guests. We regret any confusion that may have occurred regarding your early departure and the breakfast arrangements. Based on the timing of departure the breakfast staff are already present at the hotel. Typically, while it may not be a complete spread, croissants and pastries are usually prepared, and the coffee station adjacent to the breakfast area is accessible around the clock with provisions for takeaway cups. We regret any inconvenience experienced on this occasion and assure you that we will address this matter with the breakfast attendant responsible for that morning. We will address this internal communication issue as well to ensure a smoother experience for our guests in the future. We hope that despite this, you were able to enjoy the other aspects of your stay with us. Thank you for choosing to stay at our hotel, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back for a more positive experience. Kind regards from Zürich

Dear guest. No, our hotel is too small to have its own gym. Therefore, we could recommend two gyms which are within 3-5 minutes walking distance from our hotel.

Dear guest. Thank you for your question. Yes, all our rooms are equipped with individual adjustable air conditions.
