Detailed Reviews
The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. It happened to be very hot outside so we utilized the air conditioning. I was skeptical because it was the type you had to put the hose outside the window, but it worked great. One thing I was NOT a fan of was the opaque glass bathroom door, I would totally recommend the hotel change those out!!! Personnel were all great. Breakfast was continental, included hard boiled eggs and great croissants. Great location, however, be aware if bringing luggage from the train station, go PAST the huge set of stairs up to the street the hotel is on and you will reach a ramp to roll the luggage up and just backtrack a bit.

Location was fantastic as it was walking distance to everything you need too see and do including shopping, Christmas markets and train station and quiet enough when it was time to sleep. The room was a good size and comfy enough although the pillows were to soft. The breakfast was great with a good selection on offer and the staff were lovely and welcoming. On our departure they gave us a Xmas gift each which included chocolates and biscuits which was a lovely touch.

A lovely place. It strikes the right balance - the staff is welcoming without being obsequious, the position is central without being confined, the rooms are comfortable without being pretentious, the atmosphere quiet without being dull. The breakfast was abundant and tasty - especially the coffee.

Stayed for 3 nights in a Junior Suite with my husband and teen child. The room was spacious. We were pleased to have much more space than we typically expect in a European hotel room. There was ample room for luggage, a sitting area for reading, a desk, a fridge and safe. The rooms were well maintained and the cleaning staff did a great job (and were very friendly)
Location
The hotel is a 10-15 minute walk from the main train station with luggage. There is one big hill or staircase to get up to street level for the hotel. But very manageable with suitcases, especially if you take the sidewalk ramp instead of stairs. Trams would be an option too, but we opted not to use the teams.
It is very walkable to the river, lindenhof, so many great options in Old Town and the lake. We had no need to use the trams or buses as nearly everything was within walking distance.
Staff
The staff were wonderful! We were greeted with a friendly smile every time we saw a staff person. They offered recommendations for places to go and were very accommodating. We commented many times at how hard the reception woman worked as we’d see her literally jog between tasks to cover everything needed.
Food
Breakfast was a very typical buffet option. It had everything we needed, cereal, cappuccino, boiled eggs, fruits, breads, etc. we also ate dinner at the on-site restaurant, Time Out, one time. The food was also delicious.
Tip
Review your bill closely. We were almost mistakenly charged for tram passes. They quickly corrected this when we pointed it out. No problem, but we were glad we paid close attention.

This was one of our favorite hotels on our recent tour of Switzerland. The room was spacious and extremely comfortable, with bright, chic, modern decor that is also homey and comfortable at the same time. The reception staff spoke excellent English (and I'm sure they speak other languages as well), and was very friendly and helpful. The view from our window overlooked the charming little courtyard between their buildings. The location is fantastic - just 5 minutes walk from the train station, but up on a wall above the busier part of Zurich (which can get a bit noisy in the evening), so it's close yet has a secluded feel. The breakfast was excellent - the absolute most delicious birchermuesli we had in Switzerland, as well as some extra nice breads, yogurts, and cheeses. We had a delicious evening meal at their restaurant as well. Would definitely stay here if I am in Zurich again.

The location, one level up from the "central" tram station and very close to the train station, right near the old town, the river and the university, is great. Since I arrived in the morning after a sleepless night, I emailed ahead and asked to be able to check in when I arrived. They said that they would try but could not promise to have a room ready, but they did, so I could go to my room right away and rest. This was very much appreciated! My room was large, with a huge bathroom, and a sitting room. Breakfast was also nice. And the staff were always helpful.
On the down side: the mattress was hard and not really comfortable. The minibar in my room did not cool at all - which I only discovered after leaving cheese in it for a whole day and night! The staff were happy to keep what I had left in the kitchen fridge, but after (presumably) someone checked the minibar, they insisted that it was working properly.
Also, the hotel rooms, like many in Europe, are not airconditioned. The website said that there were fans in the room. Instead, I had an in-room portable air-conditioner, so I had to open a window, and put the exhaust pipe out the window. And it was quite noisy. Just a fan would have been better.

We stayed in this lovely hotel for 2 nights, The hotel has just been renovate including all the rooms and the reception area. The rooms are a good size and an air conditioning unit is available in the room The restaurant was not opened as this is still work in progress but will be completed by mid August, However they still served a lovely breakfast each morning. It is a stones throw from the old town where there are plenty of restaurants and a 10 minute walk to the station, We had a car with us and it was CHF 15 per day. All the staff were lovely and nothing was too much trouble, Would stay again if in town!

Lovely hotel. We were the first to stay in a newly renovated room. It was clean, bright and large enough for the 2 of us. The bathroom was gorgeous! We were here during Christmas and at check in (Dec 21) it was mentioned that the restaurant was closing until January. We choose this hotel because it served Gluten Free breakfasts and was included in the cost of the room. We never questioned the closing ... but we should have! By accident, we found out the day we were checking out that the restaurant was open for BREAKFAST ONLY until January! The lady at the front desk was excellent and credited our account with 4 days - no breakfast! She did not have to do that, as we should have inquired about the 'breakfast included' statement.
I would highly recommend this hotel. Walking distance to Central Zurich and Train Station. Even the tours we took, the meeting place was within walking distance.
The only down-side of our stay (and this is pretty picky) ... the safe was large enough to hold everything, (even my laptop), BUT the safe was not fastened to anything. It needs to be bolted to the shelf, the wall, the cabinet ... something! Someone could walk off with the entire safe, it wasn't very heavy. I know the room was recently renovated, so perhaps this is just an oversight, but it does need to get fixed.

Hotel St Josef really surprised us as we book an inexpensive alternative in Zurich we wasn’t expecting a lot. However, the hotel it’s clean really well located close to almost everything and the staff service was great. I would definitely stay there again soon.

We stayed here in a junior suite for three people. The hotel is centrally located, only a 5 minute walk from the bahnhofstrasse and the main train station. It is also quite affordable compared to other hotels in the area. The room was pretty comfortable but not too fancy. Staff were pretty helpful and friendly. An added bonus was the free breakfast buffet which had a good variety of food to help get your day started. I would definitely recommend staying here.

Hello! From the airport you can either take the airport shuttle "check-in allways, price ca. CHF 34.00 per person. Otherwise you can take the train to Zürich Mainstation and walk from there to the hotel.Cross the hall of the train station and leave by the “Bahnhofquai” exit (tram stop). Cross the bridge (Bahnhofbrucke) to Central. Cross Central and take the steps on to the road above the wall (Hirschengraben). The hotel St. Josef is situated a short distance along this road at Hirschengraben 64. To avoid the steps, go underneath the wall along the „Seilergraben“, after about 150 m there is a ramp up to the „Hirschengraben“. Alternatively to the train you can also take Tram Nr. 10 to "Central" and follow the walking directions from there to the hotel (ca. 5 mins walk.). Please do not hesitate to contact me for any further information yvonne.scharl@st-josef.ch. Kind regards Y. Scharl / Manager
