Detailed Reviews
We stayed for 2 weeks in the Opera Hotel in Zurich, Swiss, which is in front of the Opera house of the city in a beautiful location of the Bellevue neighborhood. Our room was very comfortable with all the facilities, and we had a balcony (like many other rooms in the hotel) with a view to the beautiful Zurich lake. Although it was January there were many sunny days and we could enjoy the scenery and even observe the white swans swimming in the lake! We felt like we are a part of the Swan lake ballet looking at the beautiful swans….But most important was the human resources in the hotel. From the cleaning personnel to the front-desk people they were all very attentive, happy to assist, ready to help even with the luggage and always happy to serve free mandarins, candy and cold tea. Specifically, we would like to give a five to Yoya, Julien, Marko and Patrick – thank you guys for showing us the great swiss hospitality!!!! We will come again!

Response from Hotel-Opera, Geschäftsführer at Opera Hotel Zurich
Responded 14 Feb 2020
Dear AnatRan1, Thank you for your wonderful review. We are delighted you had such an enjoyable stay at the Opera Hotel and were also blessed with some beautiful sunshine-filled winter days. As we are sure you discovered on your outings, we are very close to the impressive Lake Zurich, and within easy walking distance of the popular shopping street, the Bahnhofstrasse. We hope you enjoyed a meal at our restaurant, Opera, which was recently awarded 15 points in the Gault & Millau Guide for chef David Krüger's original interpretation of authentic modern cuisine. Our team — especially, Yoya, Julien, Marko, and Patrick — was especially pleased with your kind words of appreciation regarding our service. We take great pride in making sure our guests experience our genuine hospitality and friendliness. We look forward to seeing you again soon. Best regards, Michael Böhler, General Manager

Stayed in the Opera for two nights in a "Smart Room" which was very comfortable, albeit a little cramped for two people. The room would be ideal for one, but for two, things have to be negotiated when both of you are in the room. You came in from the hallway straight into the bathroom area from which you then step into a studio type area which has a double bed made from a “sofa type” arrangement. The bed was extremely comfortable and provides a good sleep.
Everything in the room is controlled from a tablet on the wall (hence I assume the "smart"), with no instructions provided so you have to work the operation out. I would rather have had just simple traditional switches instead of gimmicks. They also provide a "google smart speaker" but it was not too smart as it never answered!! I pulled the thing out during the stay as it’s not a thing I would have in the room.
The room was a little too warm for my preference and the "smart pad" had no means of cooling just apparent fan speeds.
The room was comfortable and cosy, as with all Swiss hotels it was spotless.
The staff were great and very approachable, the lobby / breakfast area is also tastefully appointed and comfortable to sit in and spend some time.
Breakfast was excellent with many choices and produce of very good quality.
As pointed out in other reviews the hotel is a block from the lake and within easy walking distance of trams/station and down town Zurich. A great location.
Overall, I would stay here again when in Zurich, however, I would choose a larger room if travelling as a couple. If I was on my own, the “smart room” would also be fine.

Response from Hotel-Opera, Manager at Opera Hotel Zurich
Responded 10 Feb 2020
Dear handyspanner, Thank you for your detailed review. It's very helpful for us and for our future guests who are just planning their trip to Zurich. We are pleased to know that overall you had a nice stay with us. The Smart room, although compact, is comfortable and well-equipped. As you described, it's outfitted with modern technology, for example, it has a Sonos bar and three different light settings. Various features of the room can be controlled via voice control with Google Home. We are sorry you didn't find the instruction, please contact our reception so that we can assist you. It's great you enjoyed our breakfast buffet served at THE LOBBY. We hope you also had a chance to visit our Restaurant Opera for lunch or dinner. If not, we can highly recommend it for the next time. Looking forward to your next stay with us. Kind regards, Michael Böhler, General Manager

We had the pleasure of staying here for a week this month. We were planning to go to Austria for their Christmas markets but had to pivot to Switzerland after Austria closed their doors. This was a blessing in disguise.
First of all the location is great. It is adjacent to the Opera House and the Christmas market was literally just in front of it. Made it very easy to get back and forth. It is about a mile from the Zurich main train station which you can easily reach by walking, tram or train. Its central location made it easy to do whatever we wanted.
Check in was pretty standard. The elevator is quite small and essentially made for just 2 people or one person with luggage at a time. Not a big deal and common as houses have been converted to hotels. Our room was at the end of a hallway and was very quiet. Beds were comfortable. Shower was interesting in that there was not a fixed barrier at the front of the shower so you just had to be careful not to bump it to avoid water getting on the floor. The room size was spacious and one of the larger rooms we had during out trip. Regulating the temperature of the room was a slight puzzle. We had the fan going to cool off the room but it was still kept warm. We ended up having to take off the covering of the radiator to find the control to turn it down to not get overly warm. Wifi was free and reliable. Lots of storage which was nice since we were there for a week. We did not eat breakfast there so I can't comment on that. Our interactions with the staff were fine. We asked them to print up our Swiss rail pass and they just had us forward it to them and it was done on the spot.
One other positive was the room service. With Omicron on going we chose not to have room service during our stay. So what ended up happening is that they would leave a nice package at our doorstep with fresh towels, toilet paper etc on a regular basis without us even having to ask. Our experience was excellent and we would choose to stay there again when we visit the lovely city of Zurich. Enjoy.

I booked a room at the Opera for a business trip earlier this month. I selected a fully flexible rate allowing me to cancel at no charge until 18:00 on arrival day. Aware, as a seasoned traveller, of potential rogue practices at hotels around the world, I use a card I can control when I book. This is what I did in this case, thankfully.
Three days before check-in, the hotel tried to debit my card (remember, this was a fully flexible booking). As it could not, it threatened me to cancel my reservation, explaining they have to take the full amount as guarantee on my card and that was not a debit (while it is true that reserving an amount on a card is not the same as debiting, for the client it is the same as this amount is blocked and fully in control of the hotel). I explained them why this was not acceptable, which triggered a second threatening email, this time from the "group commercial director". I declined again asking the hotel to confirm whether they will hold my reservation as it should (i.e. as per the contract) or not. No one bothered to answer! As I had no intention to be at risk, I had to look for another room at the last minute and cancel this one!
Thankfully, many **** hotels exist in Zürich, and none of them would dare to try to debit your card before check-in. Don't bother then to even consider the Opera hotel.

Excellent stay all around. Breakfast was delicious and we got upgraded twice (!), due to unavailability of the room we had booked (I suppose). However, be careful with the prices. We booked through the main website of the hotel, not booking.com. Our final total in the confirmation email indicated a significantly lower amount than what was asked of us at checkout. We were told that we can pay the lower rate, but that this was an exception.
Also, the rooms aren’t really soundproof as advertised. We heard our neighbors talking and laughing. I understand that no hotel room will be ACTUALLY soundproof, but we could hear our neighbor’s conversation. Also, the noise in the street (cars honking) was not really filtered out.

This hotel is in a very good position near the opera House and very close to Stadelhofen station which has direct trains to Zurich airport (18 minutes) and is only one stop from the main station. The room was very comfortable and perfectly clean. Staff were very friendly. There is no restaurant but a good breakfast is served. Room rate was very good value by Zurich standards.

I know this hotel from previous trips and, despite I consider it overpriced versus quailty, I wanted to stay there on my recent trip. As always I called them - and this time I was told they do not accept phone booking, instead I should mail the request for a room and they would reach me with an offer. OK, I mailed request for single room with breakfast. Three days laer I received "an offer" for double room without breakfast and 20% more expensive than offer on the web page. I would probably go with the price but I send them another mail, requesting correction according to my original request - and I never hear from them again. So this the story how I did not stay there, and I will never be back, because thanks to this treatment I decided for anothe hotel, just minutes walk from Opera, so also great locatiomn, but less expencive, better, with more value for money.

I stayed in this hotel for 3 nights and I just went for 1 breakfast, I paid for it on the spot, but during checkout they charged my credit card one more time even for a bigger sum. Called them, they promised to sort this out and to apologize. Wrote them several emails, still nothing. Worst experience ever!!!

I was only here for a night but it was lovely. In a very safe quiet neighborhood. The hotel uses the eco friendly light system in Europe in the rooms; use your key card to keep the lights on! The cappuccino the manager made me in "The Lobby" bar before I headed out to explore the town was perhaps the best I have ever enjoyed. A great introduction and welcome for my trip.
Rooms are small but cozy. Elevator could be challenging for those with lots of luggage.

Hotels in Zurich are not cheap. This also applies to the Opera Hotel, which is centrally located near the opera house. You pay CHF 263 for a classic room, and these are not particularly spacious. Luckily I had an upgrade, so my room was a bit bigger. The hotel is nice, although not overwhelming. It has everything you need. I really appreciated the iron. Also the fine bath products and the bright bathroom with a window, as well as the air conditioning.
There is no proper reception. The bar also serves as the reception, which means that breakfast is served in the middle of the bistro. This is perhaps a bit easier than in other hotels, and at the same time you are among the day guests who come by for a coffee.
An underground car park with paid parking spaces is located in the immediate vicinity.

I booked a Superior room with a balcony, and from what I was told by the staff via email correspondence was that they cannot guarantee the balcony but will list is as something I requested, and traditionally, persons who book directly through them/their website will receive priority consideration. This policy is a little ambiguous, and caused me to email them multiple times about it, especially as it got closer to my stay as I booked it well in advance and really wanted it. I think what it comes down to is depending on what rooms are occupied when you get there, there's no way to say for sure if you will get a room with a balcony. Let's say you and someone else's reservations overlap, and you both want a balcony, but they check in first—it's going to be first come first serve and they will get it.
Dear Susanjohn58
Thank you again for this message.
The Hallenstadion is about 20 minutes by car away and the cost for a Taxi is about CHF 50.00 per ride.
We hope those information help you.

Dear Susanjohn58
Thank you very much for your message and I am sorry for the delayof the answer.
The Hotel Opera is perfectly located in the city of Zurich you can reach the old town in less then 10 minutes walking distance.
Also the train runs every day a week from the airport to the trainstation Stadelhofen where we are just 5 minutes far away.
We would be very happy if we can welcome you soon at the Hotel Opera. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us.
Kind regards
Hotel Opera-Team
Dear Mrs Katar
Thank you for your writing and for your interest in our property.
We would like to inform you that we do not have our own parking. However, we work with the public Parking, The Parkhaus Opera - Schillerstrasse 1, 8008 Zürich – which is at a 2 minutes walking distance around the corner. The daily rate with us is CHF 35.00 instead of the regular Parkhouse rate of CHF 45.00.
You are more than welcome to stop in front of our property to unload your luggage.
Please let us know should you have any further questions.
Warm regards from Zürich,
Hotel Opera
Dear Terang
Thank you that you are looking forward to stay with us in the Worldhotels Opera.
We have the local Train Station Stadelhofen in Walking distance from the Hotel, you just Need a 5 minutes walk. From the Airport you have a direct Train to the local Station, the S16, go every half an hour and you don't have to
change Trains. The Price would be around CHF 6.80 per person. In Zurich we can recommend you the Train because this is really the easiest way. Otherwise you have taxies waiting in front of the Airport, it take you around 30 minutes to arrive to the Hotel and the Price would be around CHF 60-70. You have a shuttle bus waiting always in front of the Airport which you can also take. The Problem is that the shuttle bus will go to different Hotel in Zurich so there is no exactly time when you will be arriving.
We hope we could help you with this Information. If you have further questions do not hestitate to contact us.
We are looking Forward to welcome you with us.
Kind regards from Zurich
Your Hotel Opera Ensemble
