The hotel is located few tramway stops from the city centre, with two lines connecting it to the Hauptbahnhof and Bellevue, respectively. The rooms are quite spacious and clean, well equipped. Friendly and professional staff. The breakfast buffet is of high quality.

This hotel is situated (in a residential area) at the top of quite a steep hill away from shops ad restaurants. This means a 15-20 minute walk at the end of nice meal. All is not lost as frequent trams run past the front door. There are plenty of bars and restaurants at the bottom of the hill where you will also find the central railway station.
Our room situated at the top floor (5) was spacious and had the benefit of a reasonably sized balcony.
Breakfast was typical fare served until 10:00. There is no restaurant for evening meals. Reception is closed at 17:30. If you have an issue then someone from the sister hotel will help by phone.
If you go down to the area where the railway station is you will find the famous street where all the designer labels have shops so if you are feeling rich....... At the bottom of this street you come to the lake where you can take a number of waterborne trips. We did one which stopped at a number villages so you could treat yourself to a hop on/off experience.

We stayed at this hotel for one night. There is limited desk staff, but they tell you on the reservation the hours they are there otherwise give you a code. The receptionist was there when we arrived and she helped us to get our room earlier than expected. Room was clean and spacious. Hotel is slightly outside of the old city, but is within walking distance to all main sites. I loved their breakfast. So many vegan options and a really great muesli bar with dried fruits. Parking was convenient and onsite. Would recommend!

We stayed in the family room. It could have been cleaner and better maintained. On the plus side the breakfast was very good and the front desk staff was friendly.
When we checked in the room didn’t feel very clean, there were food crumbs from the last guest on the bench above the fridge, some stray hairs in the bathroom and most surprising was a half eaten rotting capsicum in the fridge. The bathroom sink was also clogged and took ages to drain. I reported this to reception, but it wasn’t fixed during our stay.
There was a sign on the bathroom mirror which told us to put our towels on the bathroom floor if we wanted them to be washed, to save the hotel/environment from unnecessarily washing lots of towels every day. We had therefore assumed that the rooms were serviced daily. When we got home that night, the room hadn’t been serviced at all, and now our towels weren’t dry, because they’d been in a pile on the floor instead of being hung up to dry!
Our beds were comfortable but the pillows were as flat as a pancake, the kids said the sofa pull out bed they were on wasn’t very comfy. There was no aircon, but there was a fan on a stand, which sufficed for our visit as it wasn’t too hot at that time of year, and there was a large window we could open too.
The breakfast was excellent, with lots of choice and a nice breakfast room.
The hotel was about a 15-20 min walk from the main train station, so it was quite convenient except with luggage, because the walk involved a number of staircases and hills up from the station.

This hotel had zero service and zero humans, not even a person to check in customers at the front desk. When we arrived, we found that we were supposed to have been given a code to get in. Fortunately, someone else opened the door for us, but there was a long line of people in the lobby trying to check themselves in on one slow computer. The check-in process was so slow and bad that one customer came back, and cut in front of me to get a new key as the one he had been given was for a room that already had another customer in it. We had already checked in on line, but had to enter all of our information again nevertheless.
I had thought that the slightly lower price was due to this hotel being a mile uphill from everything, not because it was so bad. For example, there was no space in the bathroom for toiletries. A loud tram went by every few minutes. The next morning, I discovered a speaker near the front entrance to call someone to open the door remotely. If you’re an American of ample size, you won’t fit into the small lift, and there was nobody to help with luggage. Breakfast was available for an additional charge, but it did not look appealing. When it was time to check out, I received an e-mail on how to check myself out, completely in German!
The one plus is that a washcloth was supplied.

On arrival to the hotel, we were told that only credit card or cash was accepted. This took a large chunk out of my stay as we spent quite some time trying to find somewhere to draw money from. We then weren’t given our room number and no staff were on sight by the time we came back but luckily we made one phonecall to sort this. The room itself looked okay and the beds were very comfortable, however the mini fridge hadn’t been cleaned in quite some time and featured some hairs too! I also noticed that under the beds had been neglected as they were thick with dust. I would avoid this hotel if cleanliness is important to you! It’s pretty disappointing as I paid quite a lot of money to stay as I was charged for both children but it wasn’t worth the price.

About an 1 KM from station but not walkable as the hotel is on a steep walk up. Small room, even smaller bathroom. Poor checkin process as the system does not work for booking done through agents, room keys did not work after a day, soap dispensers in room did not work. Average breakfast

We stayed at Hotel Rex for two nights. Since parking is limited at the hotel, we were advised to arrive early. We arrived as guests were checking out and found a free parking spot.
Since the room wasn't ready until 2:00 PM, we visited the sites around Zurich and saw almost everything by 4:00 PM. We had dinner at the Crazy Cow which was down the street on Leonard Strasse. Awesome restaurant! Great food. Great atmosphere. Friendly staff.
Overall, the hotel was clean and comfortable. We paid 111 Swiss Francs for a double which was a bargain! Hotel is located in a nice neighborhood. The street car (No. 7) runs next to the hotel and was a bit noisy. Noise problem was resolved by closing the window.
Breakfast buffet was a typical European buffet with assorted breads, fruit, meats, cheeses, and beverages. Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. Hotel also exchanged Euros to Swiss Francs. We didn't ask if they accepted US Dollars. The Hauptbahnhof has a currency exchange office which had better exchange rates.
Great hotel! If we were staying in Zurich, we would definitely stay at Hotel Rex again.
After seeing most of the sites in Zurich, you may want to take a side trip to Lucerne. Lucerne was beautiful and only 50 minutes away by train.

my wife and I were first timers visiting Switzerland to look up my grandmothers birthplace, and flew into Zurich and spent some time there before touring central switzerland and then Germany and Austria. We knew nothing about Zurich and got our rooms through AAA travel. When we arrived, we were happy that they spoke excellent english, for my german is poor, they were also very friendly and most helpful. The first room we had there was on the 2nd floor and rather plain, but functional, but on the return trip we were on the top floor and had a excellent view and a kitchenette as well as a large single bed. The food there was quite good, but a word of warning, the coke bottles are very expensive by american standards. Quite a pleasant stay, I plan to stop there in November when I return with two of my adult children. Dan Wilcox Cincinnati, OH

We stayed one night at Hotel Rex in August 2004. We drove from Germany, so we needed somewhere we could park our car safe. The hotel is located in a nice and quiet residential area. Unfortunately Hotel's parking lots were full, but a receptionist was very nice person, and she gave up her own parking space for us. We walked 15 min to downtown since parking in downtown Zurich could be expensive and crowded.
Breakfast was continental style - tea, coffee, juice, bread, cheese, ham, fruit, yogurt, cereal etc. We had a non-smoking room at the corner, and the room was nice and clean. Wow, BIG! (we expected a European standard size room). We slept good.
If you are not looking for a luxury class hotel, this is a great place to spend some nights in Zürich.
We enjoyed Zürich. We had a cheese fondu and raclette in Adler's Swiss Chuchi at Rosengasse 10. Mmm, it was great!

They have those mobile air-con which works out well. We were there in August and we don't find the room too hot. (My husband usually can't sleep in a room without air-con so if he's OK most people would be fine.)
