We stayed for 2 nights and had a great time. Although from the outside the hotel appears just like any other, once inside there were numerous touches that really added to our stay. For example, on check-in, we were greeted with a welcome drink and a personal introduction from the manager. Later that evening we dined in the outdoor hut and had fondue with a small group of other guests and the manager who shared stories with us and ensured we were well supplied with wine, schnapps and cheese. The location is great as is the swimming pool - often we were the only people in the pool area which was a nice way to relax after a busy day on the mountain!

Our first visit for several years and we were delighted to find the same warm welcome, excellent food and good facilities. All of the staff were friendly and helpful.

The hotel is in the centre of the village, opposite the Männlichen cable car and 3 minutes’ walk from the station.

Rooms are comfortable and many have balconies; rooms facing the valley are more expensive than those on the street.

Breakfast is an extensive buffet with hot and cold dishes and fresh bread and pastries. Evening meal is a 4 course menu - very good, but quite expensive (48 ChF per person) - B&B with a couple of evening meals in would be a good option.

There is a cosy bar with children’s playroom attached. The swimming pool is excellent and has a sauna; there is a ski room and Molitor ski hire is just opposite.

Wengen is only accessible by train; travel from Zurich airport takes 3 hours.

The hotel is well placed in the village, the rooms were comfortable and clean and even though we had a connecting door to friends room, the doors between our rooms ( there were two ) were very solid so you were not able to hear the TV or talking from the other room. The Bar area was nice and cozy and the barman ( Bruno ) was a nice guy and very helpful. Breakfast very well laid out and the room and service from the breakfast staff was helpful but not 'in your face' which was great. Check in and check out was simple , quick and the service provided was really good. All in all this is exactly what I have come to expect from the Switzerland

The rooms really let this hotel down , they are shabby , terrible bathrooms and decor , maybe it’s just Crystal ski UK customers that get the bad rooms … I thought we had booked a standard room on the hotel website and in fact it was budget ( barely room to move room ) Crystal hide behind it’s a double room on their invoice so you don’t know conveniently what you have booked … it’s totally misleading and I have complained to them …..so you arrive thinking you have a standard room given what you have paid which was not cheap , it couldn’t possibly be budget because you pay a premium price and they give you the budget room , the lowest room with no view etc probably the cleaning closet has more space
So we managed to upgrade to a family room …this was thanks to the excellent hotel staff , it was bigger ( not by much ) had a balcony ( not much use in the snow though ) but the decor was still dingy and bathroom small and very dated , it would be awful if you actually had a family , honestly , small Tv , basic old style plugs ..no usb ports ..could be one of the worst hotel rooms I’ve ever stayed in and I have traveled worldwide but please see the pictures ( this is the upgrade ) I actually paid even more for at the time to upgrade as the thought of a week in the budget room …. In fact If Crystal had said budget when I booked I wouldn’t have booked
It’s a real shame because , the food is brilliant, great choice , 5 course meal every evening , excellent salad bar to start and great dining and hotel staff , clean bright dining area , breakfast excellent choice
The pool and spa is also excellent, great place to relax after skiing. , steam , sauna and pool , bathrobes all you would expect from a top hotel
The hotel is in the centre .. it’s not ski in /out , you can ski near it but you will be carrying skis to the cable car and train station.
The Crystal rep went above and beyond , what brilliant customer service he provided and to be fair they did compensate some of my upgrade cost
thanks to him and not Crystal complaints who just don’t care , they have your money and have misled you but are not bothered , I have still well overpaid for a very sub standard room
We ski every year in different resorts and the rooms are the worst I’ve seen given ski rooms / hotels / apartments are generally smaller
I hope this hotel refurbishes soon as it has so much going for it and is let down by the rooms or the ones Crystal gave us ?

I have been coming to Wengen for about 30 years on and off. Even at the height of summer the crowds of tourists do very little to mar this wonderful setting. The Sunstar is about 400 metres from the station. Its rooms are typically Swiss, clean and functional. The rate at the hotel was about average for Wengen in August, 200 CHF. Staff were knowledgeable and polite. Breakfast was good, although the hot options could have been extensive. So all in all, a solid choice, but what gives the hotel the edge over many other hotels is the pool. It's an excellent pool, especially for families with kids as at about 4 pm there's splash time, with several large inflatable tools. That might have many couples looking for other options on hearing this. However, adults get their turn later on when children are not allowed and the pool is romantically lit.

We have recently returned from another lovely Christmas spent with our family at the Sunstar, Wengen. The hosts, Oliver & Katya, always make us feel so welcome & they have a super team of staff who are helpful & friendly. The chef who has been there for several years produces superb meals & we were interested to learn that the hotel now monitors food waste & we found the portions perfect. The hotel is perfectly situated in the centre of the village close to the mountain railway station & cable car but we did notice many more visitors in the area this year.

Yet another amazing trip to Wengen and the wonderful Sunstar Hotel for a skiing holiday. Katja & Oliver Kienzler manage a tremendous hotel with personable and professional staff throughout, all with the singular focus of making your stay the most pleasurable one possible. The hotel facilities are first class and the location is central within the village. It is only a short walk to the train station and an even shorter walk to the Mannlichen Cable Car. Sustainability and Eco-Friendliness are clearly important at the hotel and it is excellent to see participation options being presented to guests. Year on year improvements within the hotel are clearly visible and reflected through it's excellent decor and well maintained facilities. I can't recommend the hotel enough.

My family checked into the hotel taking 3 rooms for 5 nights , half board . After a days travel we thought we would have one of the free beers from the mini bar as advertised, free mini bar restocked daily. I noticed the beer was without alcohol so I took the 2 beers to the front desk expecting them to be replaced with normal beers . The manager was called and he became irate with us for this request . We were told he has a promotion with the beer company and alcoholic beers were not allowed . This was not mentioned in their website , only free beer . A disagreement ensued and the manager became intransigent and irate with us for this request . A poor start for our stay spending over 5000 CHF in this hotel . The half board dinner included no fish for the 5 days and the pricier items on the menu were not part of the half board meals . We didn’t get angry we got even by not ordering any sparkling water , no wine or beer and not attending the bar area to show our displeasure . The new owners with the present management have taken an excellent hotel and made it into a mediocre one .

Dear Mister Tepperman Thank you very much for your feedback, which we take to heart, as our daily goal at the hotel is satisfaction of our costomers and constant improvement. We offer 5 different drinks in the minibar free of charge, refilled on daily basis. However, since it is a free service from our hotel, our hotel policy is, that we don't exchange those drinks with any other different drinks. We will make amendments and add this precision on our website. We several times explained you our policies and you repeatedly asked, emphasising your request with you leaving a bad comment on the internet. We are very flexible if someone talks politely to us, but we don't accept blackmailing. It is really a shame, that this issue spoiled for you and your family your holiday. We are offering alcohol-free beer in the minibar since 2019, when the hotel was still a part of Sunstar and when you were also staying with us. It has nothing to do with the new ownership. Most of our team is still here and we are still keeping up the good guest service as before. Regarding the halfboard options: we are offering 2 different main courses every day. Furthermore, there are 5 more options as alternatives on our à la carte menu. The Management Alpine Hotel Wengen

This is the second time we have stayed at the Sunstar Wengen and it was again a great holiday. The hotel is excellent, catering for families very well. Our room was an open duplex with our two children (12 and 9) in bunks downstairs and the main bedroom up a small set of stairs. Food for both children and adults is excellent and the staff are attentive but not overpowering. The hotel facilities are very good with a lively pool and play / TV room for the kids. Location in Wengen is fantastic with really close access to both main cable car and trains up the mountain. Travel time from Cambridge to hotel using car flights and train was 11 hours. We would certainly recommend and will be looking to go again.

My wife and I have stayed here several times previously. Whenever we return it feels like coming home. The staff are all extremely helpful and friendly. The rooms are spotlessly clean and well maintained with everything you need, including a free mini-bar fridge which is replenished daily. Street side rooms have a mountain view and valley side rooms have breath taking views from the balcony. There is an indoor heated swimming pool, a sauna and steam room. The breakfast buffet is very comprehensive and delicious. Half-board evening meals are four courses and also great quality. catering staff will adjust things to your taste if you are a little fussy - just ask and it's no problem.
The hotel is also an easy walk from the railway station.
Can't really find any faults! Great stay!

Dear guest In our Duplex rooms there is a sofa bed on the ground floor, which can be changed into a bunk bed. When changed into a bunk bed it is rather suitable for children. Otherwise we would recommend one adult on it. On the upper floor is a double bed for adults. If you need further assistance, please let us know. We would be very happy to accommodate you.
