The hotel is located very close to the bus & train station and opposite the Sherlock Holmes museum, with the main street just a few minutes walk away. It has a nice terrace where you can sit and watch the world go by. The room was very comfortable, it did get quite warm but we discovered that you could put the electronic shutter down on the outside of the window whilst you were out during the day which helped keep it cooler. The food was very good, service was a little slow on our first night but this was due to a large group that were dining there too, the second night was much better. They provide complimentary iced coffee & cake at 4pm and they have complimentary juice & water with fruit available too, which is why we were very surprised that we were charged 10 CHF over our two nights for tap water with our meal. We did query this on check out and were told it "was a Swiss thing" but we didn't experience this anywhere else on our 2 week trip in Switzerland. You can use the hotel guest card to obtain a discount at the Sherlock Holmes museum and I believe at Aare gorge. This was a very nice base in Meiringen.

My friend and I stayed in this hotel for 5 nights in August. It is extremely well-located, walkable from the train station, right in the centre of the (admittedly small) town and very comfortable. You get breakfast included in the room rate which consisted of a very good cold buffet selection, juices, coffee, etc and then a few small hot items you could order (like eggs, bacon, pancakes) which were also included. We also ate in the restaurant twice, and both times the food was excellent. We had a wonderful view onto the mountains. Simon was very friendly and checked us in and out, and also came over to ask how the food was the nights we ate in the restaurant. All of the servers in the restaurant and at breakfast were friendly and enthusiastic.
A few things kept if from being a 5 star review. As a few others have mentioned, our room was very warm. We were there in the middle of summer but it was actually unusually cold. Each morning we left our windows open (as they had been open all night to cool the room) and every day when we came back from hiking (sometimes very late) they would be closed and it would take a long time to cool down again. There was also something weird with the TV where occasionally a mysterious german voice would emanate from the TV for a few seconds! We never figured it out, it was so weird though.
And perhaps the worst and most unprofessional experience we had was asking for a restaurant recommendation from Franziska who happened to be sitting on the desk. She literally could not offer a recommendation outside of the hotel's own restaurant. When pushed she halfheartedly suggested the restaurant of the nearest other hotel, her explanation being "I don't really eat out in Meiringen and I just love our restaurant." Look, I understand that the chef is your husband and it's a good restaurant but this is frankly amateur hour level behaviour. This is an expensive, upscale hotel. I expect the host to at least be able to rattle off 2 or 3 recommended places to eat outside of their own. Luckily, we later went to the tourist information center who gave us some wonderful restaurant recommendations, including where we could get fondue (which Franziska claimed was impossible. Not so!)
So all in all a good experience but some strangely unprofessional behaviour from one of the owners.

Dear rgm03 Thank you for your feedback. We are glad that you enjoyed the room and the food in our hotel. We are very sorry that the room was too warm and something was wrong with the TV. It's a pity you didn't tell us during your stay, or else we could have taken care of that for you. Regarding your mention of the restaurant recommendations, I am sorry to hear that they did not match your expectations. Based on your review, it seems like there must have been a slight misunderstanding. Aside from our own restaurant, I recommended to you the restaurant in town of which we have received the best feedback from our guests in the past, and answering your question about the Fondue, I pointed out to you that it might be hard to find it around here at this time of the year and that I am unfortunately not aware of a specific place that does offer it. Nevertheless, we thank you for your feedback and we will do everything we can to provide more comprehensive recommendations to our guests in the future. Since you referred to our interaction as "the most unprofessional experience we ever had", I will take the liberty to say that reading your review has caused me to feel the same way. Comparing a person's behavior, who was making an effort to give you their honest opinion, to a silly TV show is nothing short of disrespectful. We have been running our business for more than 25 years, together with our hard-working staff we do everything we can to make our guests' stay as enjoyable as possible and while you simply cannot meet everyone's expectations, we have yet to encounter a review as unprofessional as yours. We wish you all the best. Franziska and Simon Anderegg

From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth by the owners Francezka & Simon. We were on a 7 day hikers package which included breakfast and dinner. Cleanliness of our room could not be faulted, nor the courteousness of the staff. We were sorry to leave at the end of the week - and would highly recommend others to stay in this family run establishment.

We were looking for a hotel for 2 nights at very short notice because our parquet floor needed to be re-oiled. Meiringen seemed like the ideal place for that. The beautiful boutique hotel Victoria was the perfect choice. Personally and warmly run by Franziska and Simon Anderegg, stylish furnishings with lovely details everywhere and excellent food. Great Michelin-star cuisine! We really enjoyed the almost 3 days in beautiful surroundings, despite the not so great weather, and can highly recommend the hotel. We would be happy to come back to the Hotel Victoria in Meiringen on another occasion.

This hotel is clean and convenient for walking around town. It is on a well used road but the town is quiet because there are lots of people on bikes and walking. Our room was clean and spacious. The breakfast was normal and you could order cooked eggs. We also ate dinner there as they have a Michelin Gourmand rating. It was excellent! In the afternoon they offer complimentary snack and drink. The staff were very nice, respectful, and accommodating. We enjoyed walking the town, shopping, and seeing the sights.

Lovingly run, stylish hotel. The owners are very present and hospitable, you can feel their commitment. Everything is very tastefully decorated, we felt completely at home. The tavern, bar and lobby invite you to linger. And the food is wonderful!! Worth a trip in itself. The breakfast is also very tasty. A good starting point for exploring the area.

We visited the Hotel Victoria in early January. The hotel is centrally located in Meiringen near the bus and railway stations and is an easy 10-minute walk to the ski lift. This modern hotel is clean and comfortable with all the amenities one could possibly need. Simon and Franziska (the owners) are welcoming and helpful, as are their staff. The breakfast buffet is excellent with both hot and cold food served. There is a very good dinner menu which has some interesting Asian-themed dishes. The hotel also offers complimentary access to the Meiringen Fitness and Wellness Centre which is a short walk from the property. Overall, a great place to stay and highly recommended for excellent, Swiss hospitality.

This was the most thoughtful and welcoming hotel I have ever been to. The owner is available and checks in with his guests to ensure they have everything they need. I genuinely believe everyone who works there wants to make sure you have the best experience. The restaurant was phenomenal I had dinner and breakfast. Breakfast was free and by far better than any that I paid for at other hotels on this trip. I rented a car and there was parking available for a very small fee. I didn’t feel the car was necessary as there was lots to do in walking distance. The town is lovely, nice and small for a relaxing and adventure filled trip. STAY HERE you will not be disappointed.

Five of us arrived at the Hotel Victoria, very very late due to plane problems. We were exhausted and starving. The hotel kept the kitchen open till 11pm to serve us a delicious meal, and kept the bar open later to serve us much appreciated drinks. The hotel is welcoming, comfortable and friendly, and so personal. I thoroughly recommend this hotel.

I stayed here for 5 nights in August. I was visiting with a friend and were here for a wedding we were attending in Brienz. We had a fantastic stay and literally did not have one complaint. My personal favorite was the breakfast… it is fantastic. They have an incredible variety, plus allow you to order eggs, bacon, pancakes, etc from the kitchen. Their coffee machine makes the best cappuccino. I can’t sing high enough praises for the breakfast!! The room was clean and modern with space for storing items, a couch and a desk. The location was perfect for utilizing the train and shopping in the downtown district.
The staff was very professional. Every request we had was met with knowledge and help. Simon personally asked us how our stay was several times, and the other staff were very friendly.
Would definitely stay here again!
- Scott

Dear Diane M
Thank you for getting in contact. Meiringen and our Hotel Victoria is approx. 1,5 hours away by car for Basel Airport. By train it would be around 2 to 2,5 hours travelling time. It is a very scenic route from Basel over Lucerne and the Brunig Pass to Meiringen. Beautiful! Please let us know if you need any further information. We are happy to help! It would be a pleasure to welcome you in our Hotel! Kindest regards,
