Arriving by motorbike unexpectedly, without reservation, after having been turned away in several establishments, we were welcomed in a very friendly manner, our motorbikes found a sheltered garage, they found us a very suitable room, we reserved a table in the evening on the terrace facing the demand and we ate Italian, with a small Sicilian red wine (merlot) offered, very pleasant, a nice atmosphere, at the end of the meal we were offered without "fuss" a very welcome iced lemoncello, frankly we really enjoyed it. The very friendly service, the adorable owner, who guided us for the next day's walks. In short, I'm stopping, but we promised to go back...

Here’s a possible review in English:

“This hotel exceeded all of our expectations! The rooms were beautiful, hotel was in mountain cottage style, clean, and cozy. The highlight was the stunning view from the room, which was absolutely breathtaking, whether of the surrounding landscape or city. The location was perfect, offering easy access to main attractions while still providing a peaceful environment for relaxation. The staff was always helpful and professional. We will definitely be happy to return!”

Dear guest, thank you so much for your visit to our hotel Steinbock. We are very happy to read, that you fully enjoyed your stay with us. You also write about the "stunning view". I would like to mention here, for all the people who are reading your review and our answer, that there are only very few rooms at our small Chalet Hotel, that offer a very good view. The location is however very ideal, just next to the First gondola and only 3 min walk to the centre of the village. We are very much looking forward to welcoming you back and wish you all the best. With kind regards Ponzio family and staff

Hotel Steinbock and Salvi and his team at Da Salvi are unbeatable !
For many years we have been stopping here regularly and enjoying the time very much. The hotel very centrally located, neat, clean, well maintained, nice renovated rooms with mountain views. Very local atmosphere !
The Ristorante Da Salvi has addictive factor !!!
You just feel in good hands and are constantly taken care of !
No matter how much business, Salvi has everything under control - Hansdampf in all matters and host out of passion !
All wishes are immediately fulfilled by the lovable staff !
The food is lonely top!
Not only the delicious pizza comes from the wood-fired oven, but also the best pieces of meat - whether fillet, entrecote or lamb chops with freely selectable side dishes are unique !
No matter what you choose, pizza, pasta, meat or fish - it tastes unique ! Quality is very important !
We came as guests and come back every year in winter as friends !!!
Thanks to Salvi and his entire adorable team!!!!

I have previously stayed at Hotel Steinbock and loved it so much that I had to come back. The staff are welcoming and friendly, the room I had was recently renovated which added a nice update to this warm and charming hotel. The hotel has a great location for the Grindelwald First cablecar which is a must do while you are in Grindelwald.

We landed at this hotel because all other hotels in our budget range were fully booked!
We have been welcome and a very reasonable offer was made immediately. Upon my request I was shown the rooms I had selected. The room were very clean, comfortable with super clean bathroom, double beds for sleeping and ample provision of duvet, blankets and pillows.
Although our rooms were on the main street, it was well insulated and we had a quiet night. As I requested a parking for our car, the manager immediately organized a place in the hotel back parking lot. Super service!
We ate at the hotel restaurant, well known in town for its Italian cuisine. Service was a bit slow since the restaurant was full and we have been very pleased with pizzas , pasta and selection of Barbera wine.
The next morning we enjoyed a nice, complete and tasty breakfast in a small dedicate part of the restaurant.
The room prices are very reasonable compared to other hotels of the same category. We appreciated we did not need to go out to eat and drink, etc..
Bus stops in both direction are within 50 meters of the hotel, which is great in the morning rush hours when all tourists want to go to the mountains or the train station which is 10 Mn. down the main road.

Dear guest from Morocco, many thanks for your wonderful review. We are very happy to read, that you enjoyed your stay and also the food you had in our restaurant. The hotel has got nice rooms and a very popular restaurant, however no other facilities and this is why the price is lower than in other hotels. For people looking for just a good place to sleep and loving Italian food, they feel perfectly well at the Steinbock. With best regards Jackie and Salvatore Ponzio and staff

Very friendly staff, the room was spacious and clean, dog-friendly, delicious breakfast.
We stopped off in Grindelwald on the way back from Italy and arrived quite late due to traffic. I informed the hotel about this in advance and everything went perfectly. Even if we needed something, we got it without any problems. Our dog was allowed to come with us and we didn't even have to pay extra for him. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious, the only negative point is the capsule machine - the coffee was delicious, but I think these machines are rather unsuitable for hotel operations, as they produce quite a lot of waste and there can be long waiting times when there are a lot of visitors. Unfortunately, we couldn't tilt the window at night because the noise was unbearable (garbage disposal under the room and lots of night owls, as Grindelwald is a pretty busy place and the hotel is centrally located). Apart from this small criticism, the stay was very pleasant, I felt comfortable.

Found a piece of metal in my food, this could be lethal. I wound not recommend this place to any kids or the elderly for safety reasons. Also the staff declined my request to talk to the manager. The manager was very unfriendly to us and one of the staffs(might be the manager) yelled "bravo" behind us when we left the restaurant after he agreed to waive the payment. An extremely unpleasant experience when traveling. However I would say most staffs remained professional and kept apologizing to my family and me.

Dear guests from Japan, thank you for your visit to our restaurant. Thank you also for mentioning, that most staff remained professional and kept apologizing to you and your family. We apologizie for the inconvenience caused, we are very sorry, that you had to make such a bad experience in our restaurant. We serve between 400 and 600 persons every day and that for over 20 years. So far, we have never heard, that a guest found a piece of metal in his food. We are really very sorry, that it happened. But yes, there were many people are working, mistakes do unfortunately happen and it was just very unfortunate, that this metal piece found the way into your food and not into the trash. You got the meal free of charge, which is absolutely correct. We also apologize, that you were treated bad by one member of staff. The manager however confirms, that he has never met you. The staff did not refuse to call the manager, the staff was unable to call the manager, because he was not in the restaurant at the time when you were there. Yours sincerely Salvatore Ponzio, co-owner

The Steinbock Hotel in Grindelwald was a homely rest built in the traditional Swiss style. We enjoyed their warm hospitality and friendly care. The room that was allocated unfortunately did not have direct view of the Mt. Eiger or the valley but spacious. One drawback was that the room becoming too warm during the summer nights and it did not have a fan or other cooling facility to counter it. To overcome this discomfort, we thought of opening a window, but that too was not possible as the window of our room opened to a carpark situated at the same level, making it possible for an outsider to easily access the room through the window. For us it was a security concern. Room did not have coffee or tea which most hotels provide complimentary. Breakfast was satisfactory and we enjoyed.

Dear Mr. Bay, many thanks for your visit to our hotel and thank you also for the interesting review. Up to a few years ago, no hotel in the Swiss Alps, had A/C, not even the top luxury ones. Now, with the global warming, this is becoming necessary. We are very thankful for your very valuable information, we now have to discuss, what can be done, especially also regarding your security concern. With best regards Family Jackie and Salvatore Ponzio

Delicious! Absolutely a surprise on our trip. The bread and olive oils, balsamic was so delicious. The salads fresh with tons of things mixed. The Rusticola pizza was delicious with arugula, burrata, percorino and tomatoes. I would eat here again and again!
