First-class holidays at the foot of the north face of the Eiger: the chalet-style Hotel Kirchbuhl, which includes some holiday apartments, has been run by the Brawand family for four generations. Personal care and attention is therefore part of the special charm of this comfortable first-class hotel, which is also famous for its food: while you can find sophisticated delicacies in the gourmet restaurant.

For my birthday party, I invited my family to Grindelwald for a long weekend at the Hotel Kirchbühl. The family-run hotel is located slightly higher up on a quiet hillside outside the village center. However, you can reach the village with its various shops and restaurants in just a few minutes on foot. There is a post bus stop in front of the hotel. Private parking spaces are available free of charge. We were warmly welcomed by the host family and the reception and we immediately felt welcome. The service staff is extremely friendly and attentive, as well as helpful. The rooms are furnished in typical chalet style and are spacious and clean. The bathroom is equipped with the most common necessities. From the balcony you have a beautiful panoramic view of the surrounding mountains and glaciers. There are four different hotel restaurants, the gourmet restaurant La Marmite, the Hilty-Stibli and the Eiger-Stube, as well as the Panorama Restaurant. The extensive breakfast buffet is enriched with regional products and leaves nothing to be desired. The cuisine is excellent and the half-board option includes a delicious 5-course menu of the highest quality and beautifully presented. The whole family enjoyed their stay very much and I would like to thank you again for the nice "birthday serenade"!

Beautifully located, very friendly hotel with an unobstructed view of the Eiger North Face. Plenty of parking spaces on site, free (!) charging option for electric cars, shuttle service! The international atmosphere in the hotel is warm, the guest is the focus. The family knows how to run a traditional hotel. A nice (and certainly very effective) idea: If you miss something, you can write it down on a post-it note and attach it to the mirror in the room. Simple and effective! The cuisine is excellent - recommended: half board with very varied 5-course menus to choose from. Delicious breakfast buffet. An oasis of hospitality and an absolute recommendation for anyone looking for something special in Grindelwald - from the location to the atmosphere to the cuisine.

17 sprightly men from the Riegler group set off for a long weekend in Grindelwald. Our destination was the Hotel Kirchbühl, which is located a little above the village center. This establishment makes a very good impression at first glance. Those of us who had booked a single room were accommodated with two other colleagues in the chalets a little away from the main building. Lots of space, but a little rustic. Otherwise, there are only positive things to report. When we arrived, the boss, Mr. Brawand, personally picked up our luggage at the terminal and took it to our hotel room. We also received perfect service when we left. Both breakfast and dinner left nothing to be desired. As far as our service in the restaurant and at the bar was concerned, I can say that Esther was the perfect hostess. A big compliment to the kitchen too. The products that were served to us were of the highest quality and beautifully presented. We also got our money's worth when it came to drinks. Conclusion: I can recommend the Kirchbühl with the best of my knowledge and conscience. Well, the booking was made by a colleague of ours who knows the area very well.

I have just read the two negative reviews titled ‘Avoid for the rude staff and ordinary services’ dated August 2024 and ‘Angry staff and bad service’ dated September 2024. They both share my sentiments! I had stayed here once before, 25 years ago, so clearly management has moved on to the next generation. There is an old saying that the first generation creates a business, the second generation successfully builds the business, and the third generation destroys it. I kept thinking about this during our 4-night stay. Upon arriving at breakfast on our first morning, we were welcomed not with a smile and a “good morning” but with a very stern “what is your room number” followed by “sit wherever you want”. Further, they were in a rush to have everyone out of the restaurant as quickly as possible because all staff were vacating the premises at 10am for a day-long team building session. Reception was closed for the day, the hotel front door was only accessible with guests’ room cards, and there was a note on the door providing a phone number if there was anything urgent. I have never experienced a hotel fully closing its reception facilities. I hope the team building exercise achieved something to make a positive difference because we experienced something very disappointing and distressing in the restaurant over dinner on the night of our arrival. Two Korean guests sitting next to our table with very limited English or German were having trouble understanding the dinner menu, especially given one could have a selection from the full menu for one price, three items for a lesser price or just one main course for another price. I stepped in with Google translate to help them, while the waitress, becoming very agitated and impatient, rolled her eyes and, looking at us, said out loud “bloody Asians, they can’t even speak English”. And that was said to me and my wife, who is Asian (Thai). Further, at a guess, at least 75% of the guests when we were there were Asians, so they’re clearly a very important segment of the market for the hotel. Not good enough Hotel Kirchbuhl. You must lift your game. To management, please teach your staff urgently about the importance of customer relations, manners, and how to smile. Finally, on a positive note, a clean and very comfortable room, and very good food.

we stayed for two nights. the published price of the unit we booked is 240 per night, but the owner charged us with 470 per night and claimed that there is a "cleaning fee" of 100 per person (!!) that was not included in the published price, and a few other unacceptable excuses. when we tried to understand the price the owner was rude and dishonest, and made anti-Semitic comments. this hotel should be punished. in addition, the room was not properly cleaned (!), and the beds were terrible.

Response from Christian Brawand, Owner at Hotel Kirchbühl
Responded 11 Aug 2022
Thank you for your visit. Your accusation against us is not correct. We only rent the apartments as self-catering flats for stays of 5 nights or more, where only the final cleaning is included. In addition, for shorter stays like yours, we offer serviced apartments with daily cleaning and breakfast buffet in the hotel. It seems self-explanatory to me that the prices here cannot be the same... Unfortunately, you did not wanted to understand this, when we explained and documented this to you at the front desk.

The Kirchbühl is not centrally located, but on a hill above the center of Grindelwald (10–15 minutes away), but is still well located with wonderful glacier views, even from the beautiful, partly covered outdoor terrace. Local bus stops are nearby. The best thing about this family hotel, however, is the food. À la carte, breakfast and dinner buffet or multi-course menu - everyone should get their money's worth here. Not quite cheap, but you are also at the foot of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. The spa area with two saunas and a steam bath is rather modest, you also have to get there through the unattractive utility area of the hotel. All staff are multilingual and extremely friendly. We would probably stay at Kirchbühl again, but certainly not for a spa stay.

Group of 13 ( 3 families ) We stayed in 3 lovely apartments at Chalet Roi; fully equipped with amazing view from balcony in total peace on the main road. The apartments hd everything we ever needed. Located at 15-20 min walking distance from Grindelwald train station. There’s bus stop outside the apartments and you need the bus timetable to plan. Last bus from Grindelwald is 6:30 pm.
We had a major glitch in our complimentary drop at station early morning. The hosts arranged to pick up at 5:10 pm and drop us at 6:30 am accepting our special request. The complimentary pick up & drop shuttle is only between 7 am to 5 pm. A night before when we went to the office to confirm our drop at station, they informed that they don’t have any driver and can’t drop us. They simply said sorry as they couldn’t manage anything. They gave us a taxi company no but the taxi company had no free taxis. There were no buses so early so the group of 13 had to drag all our 13 suitcases to the train station at 6:30 am 1.5 km away.
Overall we loved the hosts, the apartments & Grindelwald and would love to go back in blink of an eye !!! Strongly recommend Kirchbuhl apartments!!

A superb hotel overlooking Grindelwald and so is very quiet and peaceful, but still within a five minute walk to the town. The rooms are very well appointed and have balconies with views of the north face of the Eiger. All the staff were very professional and efficient. We ate in the small Hilti Stubli restaurant which has local Swiss dishes, the food was excellent and the prices reasonable. Breakfast is a buffet with everything you could want or hope for. There is a locked room where you can store bicycles. We hope to return and thoroughly recommend the hotel.

The hotel is certainly in the upper price range, but the overall package is right.
First, the food:
The food was upscale in every respect. Both the buffet and the 5-course menu. The service and the chefs were friendly and attentive. The cake buffet is sufficient and offers a variety. (The Irish coffee price of 15.chf, on the other hand, cannot be justified)
Wellness: The wellness area is rather small for the price range offered and could offer more. The furnishings are positive, which look modern and high quality. Unfortunately, there is no whirlpool or pool, although the price is rather high.
That's a shame and they should consider not having a pool to attract more Swiss guests to the mountains.
Staff:
The staff are friendly and attentive. No complaints whatsoever.
Hotel facilities:
The bike cellar has all kinds of equipment. Both the necessary tools and chargers for e-bikes. The terrace is inviting and is well maintained, as is the rest of the hotel. The lowest floor for the wellness area, on the other hand, is in need of renovation.

I have been staying at chalet apartments at the Hotel Kirchbuehl since 2003 and the experience only gets better. The location of the hotel high on a hill facing the Eiger and a 10-minute walk to the center of the village is perfect: a mountain experience with "urban" facilities nearby. Rooms and apartments are charming and impeccably clean, dining great with service in the main restaurant and in the small Swiss room, plus on the terrace in good weather. Service personal and friendly. My favorite hotel!

Hi, there are a few similar place near by to eat. Howeve the food at the hotel and their neighboring restaurant is so good and has a great variety. Don't forget the view you have from Kirchbuehl. I had a car, so I drove to town. Walking to town is probably a good 20 minutes. However at certain time there is also a shuttle van.
Enjoy your time there!
