Family-run hotel with traditional rustic flair. Rooms furnished with great care in detail make you forget the stress outside.

Very fine dinner with super friendly service. Breakfast leaves almost nothing to be desired.

During excursions and the day's program, the owner couple is available with advice and assistance. Tickets can be purchased directly at the hotel, this prevents queuing at the ticket office.

Prices for overnight stays are fair for direct bookings.

Which we found a bit unfortunate that we as Swiss had to speak English with the staff at breakfast and dinner.

We booked a double room with a view of the glacier for 4 days in February 2024. The house is furnished in typical chalet style and is very comfortably furnished. The room was modern and perfectly adequate for 2 people. We were given a warm welcome from the very first moment and had very nice conversations with the Michel family and the staff in the house. We got some useful tips that helped us make the most of our short stay.
The breakfast was excellent every day. Various breads and rolls, some still warm, could be topped with delicious jams, sausage or cheese. There was always plenty of fruit, muesli and yoghurt in various varieties. The coffee and croissants were simply great!
The bus stops right in front of the house and you can reach it in just a few steps from the ski cellar. This is ideal for skiers.

Unfortunately we didn't use the sauna, but we'll make up for that on our next visit. It is modern and very nicely furnished, even with a separate relaxation room.

You can eat in the house in the evening. The menu changes daily. You have to register by 6 p.m. If you don't like something, there are ways to replace it.
We were delighted, it tasted very good and there was really plenty of it.
We would like to thank the Michel and Edith family for their warmth. We really enjoyed the short trip and will definitely come back!

This is wonderful place to be on vacation and be treated with care by the owners, Gabriela and Gery. They are your go-to people for anything: trip advice, tickets to Jungfrau (they can print them on-site), bus routes, a special dinner, and so on. They went the extra mile to make our honeymoon memorable, and I only imagine they will do the same for you. Also, the rooms are newly renovated (as of mid-Dec 2024), have extraordinary views of the mountains, and were very reasonably priced. The walk from the main train station is nice if you can do ~1 mile without issue, and the bus station drops you off catty-corner from the hotel if you want an easier way. In any case, if you stay here, make sure to see if you can get dinner next door at Restaurant Fiescherblick, which is owned by their sons and exceeds any Michelin-starred restaurant that we have enjoyed to date; just make sure to leave room in the budget to do so!

We have stayed at Hotel Gletschergarten multiple times. If you want an authentic Swiss alpine stay, get a room at Hotel Gletschergarten. The hotel is more than 100 years old and while the rooms have been continuously updated to meet modern standards, the feel of the hotel takes you back to an earlier time. We stayed at the Hohturnen residence on our second stay, which is across the street from the main hotel but a fully residential experience, perfect for a family that wants three bedrooms. When you stay at Hohturnen you simply walk across the street for breakfast and any other needs. We borrowed umbrellas and hiking poles, for example.

While the hotel is quintessentially Swiss alpine, the most value part of your stay will be the family who runs the hotel. Gabriela and Gerhard are 4th generation owners of Hotel Gletschergarten and their family has perfected the art of hospitality. They know absolutely everything about the area and can recommend tailored experiences that will meet any demand. Their hotel also has operational access to all the local experiences, so if you want to travel to the Top of Europe, for example, you simply need to ask at the front desk and the tickets appear. If you want all the inside secrets to Grindelwald, Gabriela and Gery know them. After 125 years of their family serving clients in Grindelwald, there’s nothing they don’t know, which means whatever experience you want to have, they can guide you, and they can do so not only in Swiss German but also in perfect English as well.

I recommend Hotel Gletschergarten without reservation.

Greetings from Grindelwald We are truly honored by your heartfelt review and your continued visits to Hotel Gletschergarten! Knowing that our authentic Swiss alpine charm and personalized service have made your stays memorable brings us so much joy. It’s wonderful to hear that you enjoyed your experience at the Chalet Hohturnen (by the way, in November 2024 it has completely been renovated) — it’s an ideal choice for families seeking space and comfort while still being part of the Gletschergarten family. We’re glad you appreciated the convenience of borrowing hiking poles and umbrellas, as well as our seamless assistance with local experiences like trips to the Top of Europe. Your kind words about our family’s dedication to hospitality and local expertise mean the world to us. It’s a privilege to share our love for Grindelwald with guests like you, and we’re thrilled to have been part of your alpine adventures. We can’t wait to welcome you back for another memorable stay in the future! We hope for may more times! :-) Warm regards Gery & Gabriela

I am writing this review, because I am always hesitant booking a place that seems too good to be true.

This hotel lived up to all the good reviews. Room 36 has a view of the beautiful mountains that will take your breath away. The hotel was very clean, the restaurants food was excellent. The staff was beyond helpful, picking out activities in the area as well as figuring out train and bus schedules. The hotel has all of the all the amenities expected. The washer and dryer was an added bonus and was very affordable in comparison to other places I stayed on my trip. I would highly recommend this establishment as well as room 36.

My husband and I spent 2 nights here during a 2 week hiking trip through Switzerland. We really enjoyed our stay here. Prior to our stay, I interacted several times via email regarding dinner reservations and received prompt and pleasant responses from Gabby & Gerry, the owners. They were visible and present at the hotel throughout our stay and very helpful in answering question / giving suggestions.

Our room was quite spacious, comfortable, and clean (probably our biggest room of the trip). The hotel itself has a charming historic feel with lovely styling. The flower boxes surrounding all floors of the hotel are stunning.

The dining room is beautiful with great views of the church and mountains - - both breakfast and dinner were delicious. The restaurant staff is quite joyful and funny! We thoroughly enjoyed talking with them (Hi ladies, sorry I forgot your names!).

We also had the pleasure of dining at their son's restaurant in Hotel Fiescherblick right next door - - wow wow wow, a beautiful high end dining experience that I will review separately. If you're able to splurge, and love beautiful presented and uniquely crafted food.....don't miss Restaurant Fiescherblick. We typically never book these type of meals on vacation because we're often disappointed, but this meal rivals the best meals we've had in NYC and Philadelphia.

We're so glad we had the opportunity to stay at the property! Thank you Gabby, Gerry, and the dining room team!

My wife and I stayed for 6 nights from December 24th to 30th, 2023. It was a wonderful experience throughout the period.
The room we stayed was thoroughly cleaned every day and had a calm atmosphere that made us feel very comfortable. When the shower head was not working properly, and I asked for it, it was replaced immediately. The owner couple and family are extremely kind. We really enjoyed our stay.
The first night was a special Christmas dinner and we had so much fun. The other evening meals were also very delicious. The menu changed every day and we could enjoy it.
In this winter, due to the warm climate and little snowfall, there was a little less snow at the ski resort, but we were still able to enjoy skiing and the view of the Aletsch Glacier from Jungfraujoch was so amazing that it can't be described in words. .
We hope to stay there again next season.

Gabriela and Gerhard were excellent hosts during our stay at Hotel Gletschergarten while vacationing in Grindelwald. Their charming, classic Swiss hotel that has been family run for 4 generations was close enough to the center of town to be convenient, but just far enough away to be quiet and relaxed. The two dinners we had there were excellent and breakfasts offered a variety of quality selections and very good coffee. Our room was very comfortable with good views of the surrounding countryside and peaks and was well maintained by the friendly and efficient housekeeping staff.

The breakfast offer is simple but fundamentally complete.
Of particular note is the tableware, which has very traditional features and is arranged very neatly. The attention to detail is impressive. Located in a very quiet area but only a five minute walk from downtown, which offers all the shopping. In front of the hotel there is a bus stop, and the view from the window is breathtaking!
The owner's service is also attentive and cordial!
It makes you feel welcome! It's not like commercial services.

My husband and I took a trip of a lifetime, spending 2 weeks in Switzerland in early September. One of our stops was in Grindelwald and we couldn’t have picked a more a better place. It was perfectly located and the rooms were everything we expected. The owners of this beautiful hotel take very good care of their property but more importantly of their guests.
We spent the first night in the room we originally booked but saw that one of their apartments was open for the rest of our stay and asked if we could change rooms. Without hesitation they let us make the change. It was the small things that made our stay even more perfect. We didn’t make dinner reservations but they quickly found us a table and the meal was incredible. They booked our Berner Oberland tickets for us and made lots of great recommendations for activities, lunches, and dinners. Service was excellent in every way!
Gery & Gabriela – Thank you for making our visit to Grindelwald some of our best memories! Lucky are the guests that reserve a stay at your beautiful family-owned business.

Trains in Switzerland and Super efficient and easy to navigate, so it should be fine whether you travel from Zurich or Basel.. however if you flight arrives into Zurich then it makes more sense to get on a train from Zurich and head straight for Grindelwald instead of accepting some kind of car transfer from Zurich to Base, before taking the train from Basel to Zurich, unless of course if you have an accommodation in Basel where you can leave your bulky luggage in Basel.. given the various change in trains to this hotel I would prefer to travel light if I have the choice.. Enjoy!
