This us a small lovely hotel situated a up a hill from the main street through Grindlewald. It is not fancy but my husband and I had a marvelous, clean, spacious and quiet 2 room suite with unbelievably beautiful mountain views. We felt like we're staying in a Christmas village swiss chalet. The staff was efficient and friendly. The breakfast was not extensive and, although I would have loved some hot entrees, there was enough to start your day. Be aware that it is a steep walk from the train station and the main street up to the hotel. We drove and there was free parking but the train station is close by.
There is a guest laundry on site that has an hourly fee to use.

Hotel Alpenhof is a classic Swiss mountain hotel - lots of pine paneling and flower boxes on the windows. It has a small restaurant that serves Swiss specialties at dinner and a nice breakfast buffet. But, best of all, it has killer views of the north face of the Eiger and surrounding mountains.

I was disappointed when we checked in late and found we were reassigned from the room with a flower bedecked balcony I had booked to a suite with a patio but I quickly got over it. The suite had a bedroom, living room with a couch, coffee table and desk, and a bathroom with a tub/shower combination. It was great to have an extra room to spread out all our hiking gear and the patio, with a table, chairs and umbrella overlooking the Eiger, was a great place to hang out after long hikes in the mountains.

The staff was friendly and helpful. The restaurant stayed open late after that late arrival and even allowed us to take pizzas back to our patio one night after an especially arduous hike.

There certainly are fancier hotels in Grindelwald, but the Alpenhof is a clean, friendly and comfortable option we sincerely recommend.

2) Room condition :

Hello, I stayed in this hotel on 27th Dec 2022. I have never expected a traditional place like yours to be that much welcoming atmosphere. I could feel that the place was not an artificially made-to-be hotel business once I stepped in the "house" because of the style of decoration and the way they are kept here and there. So I asked a lady that if the place is owned by an individual. Then she said Yes. She said it was first owned by her parents and then they bestowed it to her and her sister as they grew too old to run a hotel business. The fact, i want to tell you people reading this comments, is.......<You shouldnt hesitate booking this place immediately> a bit located along side the hill but the Ben is available if you need upon request. Close to the coop mart and the clean room is ready. Most of all, you will be overwelemed by what you see from your balcony. I dare say, you are done with traveling grindelwald, sitting in the chair at the balcony. I attach my recent photo for your reference.

+ I wish i could have more time allowed there at your place madam.

Standard suite with living room and bedroom for single use at the price of CHF 314.20 was definitely too expensive. The room had gross defects ( mold )

The bar or restaurant only open as long as guests are there.

From 3pm no shuttle service with hotel bus because no staff available.

Hotel Alpenhof attracts with it's traditional swiss flair, and is for sure one of the best ones in Grindelwald. Unfortunately, during my stay the sauna was not working, and also otherwise the hotel seemed to be running only partially. There were only a few other guests in addition to me, and it was easily noticed that for example the cleanliness of the hotel was not on the level that so many other guests are referring to in their reviews. A loose thread on the room floor, dusty backside of the bathroom door, empty soap dispenser in the shower.... Almost too small things to even be mentioned, but I have a feeling that normally these things are taken care of. Like the headline says, "under current circumstances", Mr Payne is wishing Hotel Alpenhof a speedy recovery and better times ahead

After postponing 3 times due to the pandemic we finally managed to stay at the hotel. We saw it on a previous visit to Grindelwald and thought it ideal for our 30th Anniversary. Room had views of the Eiger and other surrounding mountains; spectacular. Lovely spacious room, great food and such lovely staff and owners (family run). Spacious car park and just the right distance from the centre of Grindelwald (short walk up a steep hill but never caused us an issue). Near the train station; we went to Interlaken by train and also to the Eiger Express that takes you on the first stage up to Jungfraujoch (Top of Europe) and then up up and up to the top. So well worth it and after a long day easy journey back to the hotel. Unforgettable. We will be back.

We enjoyed the special - a five course meal with choice of main entree, it all was very good in a dining room with pleasant and charming atmosphere. A great value as well. We decided to eat here instead of on the crowded main where we would have to wait, and it was worth the 5 minute up hill climb.

Our room was gorgeous. View of the mountain. Breakfast was great. Peaceful and quiet. Bedroom door opened to a small terrace/garden.

Tip: For people with luggage, I recommend using the hotel shuttle as the hotel is on a steep uphill street. Even us carrying groceries.. we had to stop and we’re fit.

Secondly … for lunch/dinner go to Bebbis. Hearty portions, views all around.

We had an absolutely fantastic stay here in a family room. Plenty of space for us and our four and six year old. We were on the ground floor so instead of a patio we had a little Garden area which was perfect for having some of our friends who were staying close by over to enjoy some beverages and a beautiful view of the Eiger. We had fantastic views of fireworks on Aug 1st.
The staff were friendly. Breakfast was fantastic, with great service. Would recommend

Loved everything about the Alpenhof. Large balcony with incredible views of the Eiger. We enjoyed the restaurant and ate there all three nights (excellent salad bar, pizzas). Tried the Raclette the last night and it was a very worthwhile and tasty experience. Very friendly wait staff for dinner and breakfast. Enjoyed the coffee and variety of Swiss style breakfast options. The hotel is conveniently close to the grocery store and Grindelwald train station. Overall the hotel and room had a cozy, traditional Swiss feel. Comfy bed and spacious room. Would love to stay here again.
