We were here for a family wedding...it was magical! The rooms, the food, the spa, every detail was wonderful. I had the best facial that I have ever had. The setting of this hotel transported me to another place and another time. Could this have...More

We had our daughters wedding with family and close friends at Castello di Petrata. There were 40 of us and we had the entire castle to ourselves for three amazing days. Everything was better than we had hoped for. The view is spectacular,
Far from it all, let yourself be carried away by the silence, colours and scents of the soft Umbrian hills, where what counts is the sunset, the perfume of the earth and flowers. A true oasis of peace where Aldo and Giuseppina's family and their staff welcome guests with courtesy and kindness into the warmth of a private residence, for a holiday in harmony with art and nature. Petrata Castle, an ancient 14th century fortress and its annexed chapel, nestles in the midst of gentle hills on a quiet and sunny plain, 600 metres above sea level and only 6 km from Assisi. Its position of dominance in the surrounding countryside, allows it an wide panoramic view of Assisi and the Umbrian valley.

My husband and I are staying here now. It is absolutely not true that you can easily walk to Assisi from here. If you tried in the current temperature which is 40 degrees it would take you AGES and you would be severely dehydrated.
By car the drive is about 15 minutes .
It may take an hour or two to walk to the base of the hill where Assisi starts but then you are still nowhere near the centre which is a long way up hill .
Sorry to put a dampener on your holiday but in August I do not recommend walking. The castello is kind of in the middle of nowhere which is why it is so called... it was a fortress in medieval times to look out for enemies invading Assisi. You can see Assisi from the castello but it is a long way and no pedestrian paths.
