About

#3 of 29 hotels in San Gimignano
Travellers' Choice
The Molino di Foci is an old watermill dating back to the 14th century. After being abandoned for over 40 years it has been carefully restored into a characteristic small hotel, ready to offer guests a warm welcome to the fascinating tuscan countryside. Restoration work has been sympathetically carried out over a number of years using materials and colours typical of Tuscany. As a result, Molino di Foci now offers its' guests the possibility to clearly envisage the life and history of the old watermill while enjoying any modern comforts, amid a wonderful setting surrounded by fields of wheat and spectacular sunflowers. The English speaking owners have a long experience in first class hotellerie and with the restoration they have realized their big dream of their own hotel. Situated on the via Francigena, which originally lead pilgrims from Canterbury to Rome, the Molino di Foci is an historic building protected by the Belle Arti. The Molino di Foci is only 4 kms away from the historic medieval centre of San Gimignano and ideally located for visiting both Siena and Volterra which both lie just 30 kms away, distance to Florence is 45 kms and Pisa airport 80 kms.

Stopped here for coffee whilst waking between San Gimignano and Colle Val d’Elsa. What a stunning place!! So tranquil, beautifully maintained. The coffee was also fantastic. Don’t miss it if you are passing or get the chance to stay. I would definitely recommend it.

Simply a great place to stay if you are in Tuscany. San Gimignano, being very central, is the ideal location, and Molino di Foci is just the place to stay in especially if you want to feel at one with nature! Very clean, beautiful setting, and it is very evident that the owners pay extreme attention to detail since everything is just great. Will definitely book here again if we come back to Tuscany :)

I cannot say enough good things about this little boutique hotel near San Gimignano! The grounds were beautiful, the rooms were modern, clean, comfortable, and quiet, the food was delicious, and the staff was friendly, gracious, accommodating, hard-working and professional! They offer a multi course meal three nights a week (check which nights when you book) which was delicious and very reasonably priced. On the other nights they offer “snacks” which were like a meal and very delicious! It is close enough to San Gimignano and Siena for a day trip and perhaps some other towns as well. The only caution I would offer is that it was difficult to find with gps. Other than that, it was delightful and offered everything we had hoped for in our Tuscany experience! Thank you to Luca, his business partner, the chef, and Maria Gratzi (Mary Grace) for making our time so memorable!

This hotel is a beautiful old restored mill set in the hills not far from San Gimignnano town. They arranged for a taxi to collect us from Pisa Airport and in the morning dropped us off at our final destination in town the next day. Excellent hospitality - nothing too much trouble. All in all, a very pleasant and relaxing experience - we would definitely stay again if we were in the area.

This hotel is located in a renovated water mill outside of San Gimignano. The property is very peaceful and rather quiet although you will need to drive to get anywhere (including restaurants and sights in San Gimignano). The rooms were adequately furnished and modern. The food was very good. The staff was OUTSTANDING... from the people working on the grounds, to the maids, to the restaurant staff. The people running the hotel were incredibly helpful... arranging transportation for us every day (after our original plans fell through). They went far beyond what I expect from an ordinary hotel. We hope to return to Tuscany for a much longer visit and would gladly book this hotel again.
