Simone is so very accommodating . He is a wonderful host, chef, welcoming committee at the airport, tour director, dining authority. He would be a chosen relative because he is just a terrific guy! Verona and the surrounding wine country, villages, and incredible scenery, people, food make this the most wonderful part of Italy.

From the moment I met Simone, he made me feel like a family member. He provided my family and I with clean, quiet rooms with access to a kitchen and relaxing family room that we enjoyed after a long day of sight-seeing. Simone's specialty is his warm and outgoing personality, which he tops by cooking healthy, flavorful breakfasts, including his tangy fresh-squeezed fruit juices.
Simone shared tips of places to visit and life in Italy and was eager to learn about my home. I loved the views and was able to completely relax and fall in love with Italy.
The drive up the mountain to Simone's is an interesting part of the Italian experience.

I'm sure there are quite a few bed and breakfasts in Verona that offer beautiful views and comfortable accommodations; this home exceeded my expectations on both those points. However,I would put Villa Beatrice at the top of your considerations because of the hospitality. I am a foreigner, and my hosts were more than kind and helpful--they were willing to go out of their way and take time in their busy schedule to make sure my touring needs were met, and breakfasts was farm fresh and absolutely delicious. If you are looking for a romantic place to get away from the busy city, this should be your number one choice. There is even a restaurant 1 km away with a mouth watering cuisine. My two nights spent here went way too quickly, and I cannot wait to stay again.

Though we did not stay at this beautiful place because it was full, we thought we should leave a little note praising Simone who was a god sent angel in helping our family of 4 find a place to stay in the lurch. We arrived there in mid afternoon, lost and tired and Simone immediately sat us down in his kitchen, offered us a glass of homemade juice and cookies, and found and booked us 2 places to stay for the remainder of our trip both which turned out to be perfect. Yes, it is possible to recommend a place you've never stayed at. Thank you Simone!

Lets start with what was great:

The service. Simone went out of his way to make us happy. He did anything and everything to help us and to make our time more pleasant. This includes (but not limited to) letting us do laundry, making homemade jams from scratch, and guiding us to the city centre.

Which brings us to the not so good part:

He had to guide us because the route is difficult to drive, not to mention dangerous. The switchbacks and steep hills were lengthy and nauseating. He has a better way, but that is difficult to get to and the GPS has trouble finding it.

When we finally arrived at the gate, we were also not impressed. He had a dog without a leash running around that would jump right on to you and possibly knock your children over (do not recommend for families, this energetic puppy scratches the faces of children and scares them silly). Thankfully, Simone agreed to chain the dog up for our way out.

When we got in, we found bugs in our room on the floor and falling on us in bed. Ladybugs, ants and spiders colonized both of the rooms we stayed in.

Make no mistake. Simone did everything in his power, but some things were still left to be desired.

Would not recommend and would not come back.

Response from mrsimonbbvb, Proprietario at B&B Villa Beatrice
Responded 29 Mar 2013
Dear Guest, thank you for taking the time to write your feedback about your 1 night stay at Villa Beatrice! I'm so glad that you wrote the 1st negative review because you make the other 462 positive reviews even more credible, if somebody had some doubts. Thank you for appreciating the service which included - you forgot to mention - homemade pancakes you requested me via mail on the same morning of your arrival for the next day breakfast , because your kids (9 and 11 years old) felt homesick and longed for them. It was a pleasure to satisfy your needs. And not to speak about the reservation at the restaurant Da Ugo, where finally you didn't go because you didn't' find it (after my clear explanations) - and the kids were starving - you said. You didn't even cancel the reservation made. I respect your opinion but I find your objections very unfair. Some clarifications for you and our TA readers. We lie on the hills of Verona, 6 km from the old town, in a beautiful setting. There are several roads to reach this place. With the email of confirmation (at least 3 months prior to your arrival date) I sent you a detailed map to arrive here which would make your way easier to the B&B,. Nevertheless you wanted to follow the SAT NAV instructions which led you on challenging roads. Having heard about your bad driving experience I drove you into town at night to a parking lot close to the old town. Because I wanted to show you the right way to/from the B&B. As for my dog (an australian shepherd of 8 months, 10 kg, still a puppet, adorable, playful, friendly..NOT A LION THAT ROARS aggressively like you described it) which everybody loves and it's one of the reasons why people stay at Villa Beatrice I don't' know what to say... Your kids, I remind you , are not babies - and you told me that there were not afraid of dogs - so they could keep the puppet away..and besides would you keep a puppet leashed? It s not a watchdog ;-) I took action immediately as I saw you were concerned about this matter and took the dog in my mum's kitchen. For your entire stay. Last but not least...on arrival after settling in the rooms and we met you didn't mention anything about the presence of "non paying" undesired guests in the house especially after I asked if everything was alright in the house. I do the cleanings personally every day and I'm a maniac when it comes to hygiene! After you left doing the cleaning I didn't find any spider nor bugs, ants but only a little ladybug (so sweet ;-) I do aplogize for this anyway. Didn't you go a little bit over the top? If you had told me about this problem I would have had sorted out immediately. My goal is to make everybody happy here ;- Besides In the light of the fact that you used 3 double rooms and 2 bathrooms (whereas you booked and payed 2 double rooms with a shared bathroom) I'll find your review very unjust. Villa Beatrice is not for everybody...only for people that are loyal, respectful, appreciate the nature, the dogs, the tranquillity of the countryside , the natural life style and the true italian hospitality. Kind regards. Simone Coliselli

My group of 4 was warmly greeted by Simone who eagerly offered us drinks and sat down with us in the beautifully kept garden area. After explaining his clear and simple vision for Villa Beatrice, he spent 2 hours helping us to organize our time in the Verona area offering helpful advice and suggestions. We tried all 3 of his restaurant suggestions and they were all fantastic. The room was comfortable and clean. Simone gave us open access to use the well kept kitchen, with fridge, stove, kitchen supplies and washing machine. Simone made breakfast into a morning ritual that I absolutely loved. He served breakfast on the patio which were amazing with cappuccino, croissants, bread, marmalades, yogurt, cereal, ham, cheese, he prepared eggs to your liking and his freshly squeezed juice 'concoction'.

Most Dutch people like to keep their distance. Especially when they meet new people. And then still. It's a culture thing: treat your neighbour as you want your neighbour to treat you, combined with a small amount of space, and you get my drift. Thus, insincerity is easy to spot and, when felt, frowned upon.

We got stuck in Verona, trying to find our way to the bed and breakfast. After roaming the one way roads for an hour and a half, we decided to park the car, call our host, and try to convince him to pick us up :). At first, we couldn't contact, as turned out later, MISTER Simone (Simone is a girl's name in most of the western world). But when we finally reached him on his cell phone, he immediately offered to meet us at the parking lot, to lead us to the bed and breakfast. No convincing on our part was needed at all :).

We gladly accepted his offer and, after a short but nice visit to Verona, we met Mr. Simone at the exit of the parking lot. He then led us through the winding one way roads uphill to Villa Beatrice. We then shook hands and got acquainted.

Mr Simone helped unload our luggage, made us coffee and tea and took his time to make us feel comfortable and at home. In his own words, Mr Simone strives to make Villa Beatrice "... home, away from home ...". All the time, we did feel at home and welcome. Mr Simone is sincere in his endeavours, which ultimately earns him the highest praise.

What else to tell? The villa is located on beautifully kept grounds, with a lush garden. You may meet the 2 cutest dogs (don't worry if you're allergic or scared of dogs; they're not allowed indoors and neither will they jump you :)). The rooms are snug and comfortable. The beds pleasantly soft and warm. The shower is kept clean.

In the mornings, Mr Simone made an excellent breakfast, including his own homebaked apple pie (I thought it was more of a cake, but well tasting nonetheless). He knows his way about the region, being born there. Mr Simone could tell us a lot of how to move about most efficiently.

All in all, you're made comfortable. If you want to stay at 'home', you'll not be disappointed. There's the beautiful garden, which has a BBQ too. Indoors you'll find a large kitchen, stuffed with food and drink you're (mostly) free to use. Did I mention the view on Verona yet?

We decided to leave for Venice and Verona. Mr Simone was kind enough to lend us his Satellite Navigation device and some pocket money should we need it (which we didn't, but we couldn't convince him otherwise). I could go on, but this should be enough to make you see you'll make a good choice to stay at this bed and breakfast :).

Anyone that stays at Villa Beatrice will fall in love with Simone and his wonderful establishment. It was home away from home. My husband and I stayed there during our 25th anniversary vacation and were very happy with this lovely and special place. We left with Simone now as a dear dear friend! We arrived by car and used the GPS coordinates which made it easy to get there. When we arrived Simone had wine waiting for us and gave us the tour of the b&b. My husband and I were the only individuals staying at Villa Beatrice, so we literally felt like it was our own vacation home with a kitchen, den with tv, computer area, and big room in the downstairs level which had a shower ensuite. It is warm, inviting, comfortable, and special. There was even a washer available so we washed a few things which was helpful. The breakfast was special as well; Simone offered eggs, delicious homemade cake that his mom bakes, croissants, breads, rolls, ham, cheeses, yogurt, and fresh ham, but we opted to keep it simple by having the homemade cake, croissants, and yogurt only. The most special part of the morning breakfast was that we had his very special "magical potion". Each morning was a different blend of fruits/veggies and it was absolutely delightful! Each morning he took time to go through the plans for the day and recommended sites, restaurants, and shopping. He also offered two Verona Cards at 15 euro/each which we used for seven different sites....very helpful that he had the cards available so that we didn't have to go searching in Verona for them. He also gave us a free parking tip which is very close to everything; unfortunately it was full due to a Horse Show that was held in Verona the week we were there. Simone gave us another parking recommendation which was a covered garage...very close to everything and safe. We have two border collies at home, and when we saw Simone's dogs....Ceecee and Zeus (border collie) we were thrilled. They stay outside and are wonderful dogs. What made Villa Beatrice the most special is Simone! He is so kind and generous! We loved talking to him about his b&b, Verona, his adventures, and everything under the sun. Our last morning we had to leave at 6:30 a.m. and Simone insisted to make breakfast before we left. We didn't want to inconvenience him as it was too early, but he kept on insisting which was very very thoughtful. We appreciated this gesture very much Simone...glad we left with one last magical potion drink! Simone, thank you sincerely for making our trip to Verona very special. We look forward to seeing you again soon!

We recently stayed at Villa Beatrice for 2 nights and had a wonderful time. Simone is the perfect host, full of wonderful sight-seeing tips and amazing food! The villa is beautifully situated above the bustle of Verona and has picturesque views in every direction. There is a big yard great for kids to play in and a very patient and kind Boarder Collie, Zeus. We stayed with my parents and our 2 small children. It was perfect for the family but would also be perfect for a romantic getaway as well. It really was like a scene from the movie "A Walk In The Clouds". Thanks Simone for the best B&B stay in all of Europe!
