Detailed Reviews
Just a short walk from the Rialto Bridge, this tucked away hotel is the perfect spot for a short stay in Venice for any solo traveller or couple. Special mention for Ambra, who was nothing but lovely and accomodating when I arrived and for the duration of my stay. She provided excellent tips for seeing the city including best times to visit certain areas before they became crowded. I would definitely stay here again.

This place is a real gem at a bargain. I first stayed here solo in the hotel annex, in September 2016. I returned to Venice, this time with my partner in March 2022 - I did not hesitate booking Hotel San Salvador again. Staff are very warm & welcoming, always making guests feel at home. The accommodation offering is basic but very clean and at a very reasonable cost for
Sestiere San Marco. What you see advertised is exactly what you get.
This time round we'd booked a double room with an ensuite bathroom. The bathroom was tiny but we didn't mind it as we were only staying for 2 nights. Based on my own positive experience, I highly recommend Hotel San Salvador.

the hotel is literally few minutes walking distance to a lot of important landmarks.less than 5 minutes walk to Rialto bridge. many choices of restaurants in the area,in fact the hotel has list of recommended osterias and bakeries. the boat station to go to the train station Sta Lucia Venezia and Marco polo airport is by Rialto bridge. one of the most convenient accommodations we ever had. and of course,Flavio and Roberto were awesome.

I had read great reviews about Hotel San Salvador for more affordable accommodation option in expensive Venice. From the time I walked in, to the time I left, I was blown away by the warm welcome I received from Ambra. Her infectious energy, smile and passion for Venice was apparent from the moment I stepped into the hotel. As a solo traveller I instantly felt safe and secure. She also gave me lots of tips on navigating the island. The rooms are basic but comfortable and very clean. I wouldn’t swap this experience for a 5 star hotel because there you don’t get that warm homely experience. I cannot thank Ambra enough for the genuine care she shows her guests. Thank you!

Wow, what a find, sadly just as its about to close for renovations. But I think I'll be visiting again as soon as it reopens! Amazing location, walkable to everywhere. Great little single room which might have been small but had everything I needed. Sure, its an older place but this is Venice, everything is old. Traveled solo and prefer to pay a smaller price for smaller room. Really it is Ambra who made the place, such a friendly person, genuinely lovely. Had a great chat with her about living in Venice, so interesting. She was great with information, recommendations, directions etc. Monica who did the rooms was great too, and the place was spotless. Also a nice gentleman on duty in the evenings. I'm sure it will be great after the renovation too, I look forward to visiting again!

We loved the location and Ambra was the best!!! She helped us with figuring out the trains, and what would be the easiest for my husband and I who were just beginning month long Italian vacation. She shared so many interesting facts about Venice since she was born and raised there. We loved the outside patio, where we had a bottle of wine. Thank you for wonderful hospitality Ambra and getting to know you made out trip to Venice memorable!! 🇮🇹

Meeting relatives in Venice, we simply booked the same hotel they had chosen but we were absolutely delighted. We have been to the city many times and were pleased to find that the San Salvador was so close to the Rialto - easy to reach and easy to find. We came in on the Alilaguna vaporetto, straight from Marco Polo Airport to Rialto; so simple. The hotel is a little challenging to locate, even when you are in the calle where it is located but find the door on the right, half way down and ring the bell to be let into a charming little albergo where the welcome could not be warmer.
The rooms are on the small size but, when you're in Venice, who wants to spend time in a hotel room? They are clean, comfortable and all have en suite facilities. For a city break, this is ideal. However, perhaps the best feature of the San Salvador are the fabulous people who run it. Managed by two charming, multi-lingual sisters and a friendly night porter, every guest is treated like a celebrity and nothing is too much trouble. Being local girls, the sisters are a source of tourist information that is hard to beat. The hotel has no dining room but a brief enquiry at the desk led us to a selection of fabulous eating places that we would otherwise have missed. when planning our itinerary too, talking it over with one of the sisters ensured that we knew how to get to places, what to look for and what to avoid.
And it is this sense of the personal, that makes the San Salvador stand out from the rest - well, that and its location. For the first time or seasoned visitor to Venice, the San Salvador adds a local dimension at a very reasonable price. Seriously, there was nothing we would change. Highly recommended.

We arrived in Venice 3 days ahead of schedule, and were calling up hotels from the airport to find anything available. The San Salvador, probably the 10th hotel we called, had availability - check. They also had a lovely desk clerk who was extremely helpful and gracious to us during check in. In fact, over the phone she provided me with excruciatingly detailed instructions on how to get to the hotel from the airport, so was more than helpful even before we got there. The room was pretty tiny - double bed with a little space to move around, refrigerator, shuttered windows, smallish bathroom (but quite normal for Italy). Best of all - air conditioning! This is really required if you visit Venice in the late spring through fall months, as it gets quite humid there.
Breakfast was a croissant and coffee, and they have a nice enclosed balcony that you can sit on while you eat. Also, the owner likes to chat with the guests during breakfast so he can offer suggestions on what to do. He is happy to call a water taxi if you are going somehwere off the beaten path - there is a small dock just a few meters up the "street" the hotel is located on (what we would call an alley in America). All part of the charm.
I think the room rate was about $220 US for a double back then - can't even imagine what it is now, but Venice is the most expenisve city in Italy, so a halfway decent available bed in the San Marco area under $300 is, unfortunately, a steal. The folks who run this place make it a wonderful experience though.

I have a huge smile on my face writing this review... of all the hotels on my 2 week trip across Italy, this was my ultimate favourite!
Centrally located, clean facilities and value for money for money by Venice standards. And the service was out of this world. Ambra is an ultimate gem, I felt like she was my personal travel guide as she directed me to the must-see and most unforgettable sites in Venice. Thank you Ambra!
I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it!

Buongiorno Mr Saulius
Mr Jonathan and Mr Dave already wrote perfect replies :D
There are no cars in Venezia, the last stop for buses and cars is Piazzale Roma (bus station of Venezia). You can park the car there or in Mestre (take a look in our web site hotelsansalvador for perfect directions, thank you)
Venice is human size, with more than 300 bridges (with steps). Normally we walk, distances are small, or there are the public waterbuses "vaporetti". Small tip: pack and travel light, it will be easier to move around (also up and down stairs/trains/waterbuses).
We wish you a lovely day
Ambra
Buongiorno Mr Jerry
The Hotel is located near Rialto Bridge, in the middle of Venezia.
TRain station is about 35/40 minutes by foot ( Main train station of Venice, Venezia Santa Lucia). And there are about 6/7 bridges to cross (bridges with steps).
If you are travel light, and the meteo is pleasant you can walk (all venice is walkable). You must follow the direction to Rialto. The Hotel is located in the district of San Marco, in Calle Galeazza ( a tiny tiny alley). Be carfeul. there is another calle with the same name in another district, and sometimes the gps take guests there (gps in venice doesn't work very well).
If you like there is the public mean of transport, called Vaporetto (like a waterbus). From Ferrovia stop (train station boat stop) you must take the boat n.2 and get off at Rialto stop (10minutes of boat) from Rialto oyu must walk about 5 minutes to arrive to the Hotel. I suggest you to take a look in our web site where there is a page dedicated to the location, wiht specific information.
Boat numbers can change from season to season and also the price (now, it is 7.50 euro per person per 1 ticket that least 75 minutes) and we update the web page of the hotel website when they do it.
We wish you a good day
Kind Regards
Ambra
