Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.

The room looked very nice and given that we were on the ground floor next to the street and the reception, we were barely bothered by the noise. The little tastes of Italian coffee in the room were a nice touch too. The breakfast has...More
Very close to the station so ideal for a late arrival. Right in the centre of a built up area and surprisingly quiet. Our room overlooked two gardens. The staff are very friendly and breakfast buffet was good. A traditional Venice hotel. I hope to...More
This is a lovely hotel if you are on a tight budget. It is cheap but definitely cheerful. Our room was spotlessly clean and the bed was very comfortable. The room was compact, but then we didn't spend much time in it. the buffet breakfast...More
Fantastic location 5min to vaparetto, train station and bus station.
We had the family room in the eaves with a double and 2 single beds. New bathroom was great.
Good night’s sleep although mattresses are probably due replacement.
Breakfast was great: boiled egg/ meat/cheese, pastries...More
We were trully impressed with this hotel despite some bad reviews about rooms and breakfast. If you want the fanciest hotel in Venice, then pay a fortune but please don't pay attention to bad reviews if you are on a budget. This hotel is wonderful...More

Well first of all, there are a variety of double rooms at this hotel and if you don't like the one you get assigned ask for another. I staying in one and it could easily hold a portable crib. Personally I find it easier to travel with a suit case with wheel so you can easily move it around...a backpack can get pretty heavy after a while.

Breakfast is served from sevenish to at least nine. We loved the individual tables, full number of choices, and coffee that you could machine program to be exactly what we wanted. If you need to get there earlier, just ask that they provide some items that you can pack on your way to the train station, which is a five-minute walk.
