Perfect for city break - we chose this hotel based on price & location and were not disappointed. The room is basic but on a city break all that matters for us is somewhere that’s clean and we can rest our heads. The rooms have a very quaint venetian feel and our canal view room was stunning. Rooms were cleaned daily and we were able to store our bags after checkout which was very appreciated. Reception staff were absolutely lovely and the hotel is VERY central, the perfect place to base yourself in Venice. Very easy to access hotel when reception is closed as well. Thank you Al Vagon!

Overall very happy with our stay in this hotel. The location was excellent as it was central to the train station and the all the tourist attractions. The owner was very friendly. Although the room was small for someone who’s 6’2 it was well furnished and had all the basic requirements. The room was cleaned everyday with tea and coffee included. Great value for money and would definitely recommend if travelling on a budget.

The location of this hotel is fantastic. A manageable walk from the train station, close to the vaporetto (water bus) stops and the Rialto Bridge. There is a nice spot for breakfast and snacks on the same square and in the perfect spot to walk to all of the attractions.

We paid the small upgrade for the canal view room which was worth it for the price difference!

The room was spacious with plenty of storage space. It was very clean as well as clean and fresh linen and towels. The staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful!

The bed wasn’t particularly comfortable and, although absolutely fine, furniture and bathroom were dated. Be aware that (as with all centrally located hotels) you can hear noise from the square and from the canal as drivers go about their deliveries etc.

I would definitely stay here again for a short break!

I had booked the hotel Al Vagon for my first time trip to Venice in March. Unfortunately we had to cancel this trip as my sister is immune suppressed and it would be dangerous to risk her getting Corona virus. Venice has already seen a number of cases and there are travel warnings for Italy. I was disappointed that the hotel refused to offer any kind of refund given the circumstances. I emailed them politely and they denied that Corona was an issue in Venice and that “the problem should be resolved” by the time I get there.

Very good location, although a bit noisy at night. Room was clean. Ac was also noisy. They dont serve breakfast but there is a good restaurant in front of the hotel (Farini) which has very tasty sandwiches. It was good to have refrigerator and kettle in the room.

Be Aware!!! Booked hotel two months before trip to Venice. Got my confirmation email for a three night stay over a weekend in May for my girlfriend and I. Then all of a sudden two days before we were to depart Ireland,I received an email from Maurizio at the front desk acknowledging our cancelation! I promptly emailed back stating that I never canceled our three nights stay. After numerous phone calls, the only answer he could give was that the system changed it and there was nothing he could do as he was fully booked out now.
Just think my frustration, having booked this trip for our anniversary. Trying to find another hotel in such short notice was extremely hard and we eventually ended up paying massive prices for a room you wouldn't leave a dog sleep in!
It is obviously this hotels policy to over-book and then cancel peoples rooms at the last minute, blaming the "system" for their greediness!
I called to Maurizio and gave him a piece of my mind and more when I did arrive in Venice, ruining young peoples trips like this is a disgrace!

Be very careful when so called booking with this hotel,I certainly wouldn't chance it again

Response from hotelalvagon, public relations manager at Hotel Al Vagon
Responded 15 Feb 2008
I only experienced this problem with these customers, the reservation system changed program and it was canceled, the room was free for me and I sold it.
When the customer called me I was surprised, I thought he canceled it, I was sorry about the inconvenience and would like to specify that WE NEVER WORK IN OVERBOOKING. I can try to make it up to him with a free night whenever he'd like.

We stayed here in September 2004 and the room we got was nowhere close to what we actually got.

1. We got a better shower at a motel 6. The standard was just apalling. You could take a shower while sitting on the toilet, no separate shower or even a curtain for that matter. and it was just disgusting with mold and cobwebs everywhere on the ceiling. It was far from the picture in the website. Apparently there are only a few rooms with the modern bathroom in the picture.

2. The king size bed is just 2 twin beds put together which means someone will eventually be falling through the "crack" in the middle.

3. No tv, hairdryer, and dim lights made you even feel more miserable.

4. The worst part was that even after bringing up these issues with the owner (the cool looking guy in the Italian suit in the picture) doesnt belong in the hospitality industry. He was not even interested in trying to make things right. We were there for 3 miserable nights and made no attempt to assist. He just brushed us off and told us to deal with it.

I guess thats what you get when there are more tourists than hotel beds.

Dont gamble you vacation by staying at this hotel...So much for Italian hospitality.

Cost was the main consideration here. Us Europeans aren't as bothered in luxury, I don't think as our American counterparts so it's all relative but his hotel, although tucked away and hard to find was such a good deal. Right now a double roomstarts from 85 euros. We had a room with a stunning view for that price, complete with bathroom. What more did we need? If cost is your priority then you couldn't do better than this family run, comfortable and clean hotel. I'd be back there in an instance if I could.

This is the first time I have ever felt the need to write a review for a hotel before but I've just come back from the best holiday in Venice.

I had booked the trip as a surprise for my partner, and was a little cautious as the hotel was classed as one star and labelled as a 'budget hotel'.

However, the room we had was beautiful and could rival any of the rooms in these luxury hotels which cost 5 times more. We were welcomed at 9pm and ,despite the time, taken up to where the room was and given maps/directions.
The location is perfect, only 5 minute walk from everything yet in a slightly cheaper area for bars/food as it's not right by San Marco etc. (Also the bars around here seem better as the locals are drinking in them, not just all the tourists)
If you want a fantastic, luxury room, I would highly recommend booking a superior room in this hotel. The room we had was Venetian styled, with a four poster bed and luxury furniture and it was more than big enough. And please ignore the reviews by people who only have a bad word to say about the tv size, you're in Venice, you shouldn't be sat indoors watching TV anyway! The hotel decor was true to Venice style, and we wouldn't have wanted a modern room with modern features anyway.

Thank you for such a beautiful stay in your beautiful city!

Hi there - is the hotel in a central location? in walking distance of canals/restaurants and exploring?

Very central. Great location though I wasn't overwhelmed by the actual hotel. You can easily walk to the Rialto, St Marks Square etc.

Hi can you please tell me if you stayed in a superior room in the main building or the annex? I am trying to see which room is bigger and has a better view as there are 4 of us? Thankyou
Answer from Kerrie Y

Hi we stayed in the annex, it was a lovely venitian room, there aren't really any views as it is so central, but you don't want to be spending time in the room, get out and about. The hotel style was gorgeous, we would go again.

Yes you can. Nervously, we left our luggage in the corridor while we explored Venice. On returning it was in our room waiting for us.

The only useful one is the stair lift in the bedroom at the back overlooking the canal. I can't believe some of the huge hotels on the sea front don't have a lift - the hotels boast five star status, but they are in a perfect location for some of the best sights. Beware, Venice is a city of steps and narrow passageways, but how wonderful a place it is!!
