Detailed Reviews
Lovely, old, probably typically Venetian hotel with 24 hour desk. As others mentioned, the key situation is odd with having to leave the key every time you leave. The room is small but beautifully decorated with ac, room safe, minibar/frig, chairs. The breakfast is NOT free, and I thought that 12.50 person was too steep to consider paying. There isn't a lift but I would encourage everyone going to Venice (if you are coming/going elsewhere) to rent a locker at the train station or a rental locker near the train station. We packed 3 days' worth of clothes into backpacks and left our suitcases in the rental locker. The price for the locker was well worth not having to drag suitcases up and down bridges, boats, and cobblestones. The central location of the Locanda was a plus, but we also stayed in a hotel in the San Polo region and enjoyed riding the vaporetto to each destination. I've read that some hotels have a damp or musty smell that is specific to Venice but I didn't notice anything here. A free breakfast would've been nice but would rather have a cheaper room rate without it. A nice value In a quaint but modernized hotel [wifi, ac, room safe, etc].

Excellent hotel very well sanitized and clean. The a/c made the room very cool I’m extremely hot temperatures. Centrally located close to all sights. The room was ready when we arrived and check in was fast and kind. Front desk staff was super friendly and resourceful when asking from recommendations. The only thing I would add is that there were no elevators and we had to walk up many stairs with five bags and no bellboy help. They did offer to store our bags from night before which was helpful so we didn’t have to rush out early morning on day or checkout. Breakfast was great too.

The sweetest classic Italian hotel right near the San Marcos Piazza and Rialto bridge. Water taxis, restaurants, shops all close by. The rooms are not large but it’s well appointed and the bed was very comfortable. Loved opening our windows and hearing boats, gondoliers etc going by. The breakfast that came with our room was really good with fresh juices, fruit, salad, eggs, pastries and more. The staff was helpful and friendly. We loved our stay here!

After booking 2 rooms for me and my family, I needed assistance with making arrangements for transportation to Ravenna. I emailed the hotel and immediately
received a reply and a link to the train schedule. I emailed 2 more times to get different options for transportation, and both times received a quick answer and links to car rental agencies and car services. They were immensely helpful.
The room was clean and quiet. You do need to be aware that there is no elevator and you may have to climb 2 or 3 flights of stairs to your room. The hotel is well located near St. Marks Square and near to a water taxi. I would highly recommend it.

Ideal location if you are visiting venice with a large suitcase!
There are no bridges to cross between arriving from the airport by boat at Realto and the Hotel - this was the first win of the trip !
Rooms were lovely and clean. Staff a delight to deal with.
Hotel is bang smack in the middle of Venice so handy for all locations.
I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel for a city break.

Central location which is easy to get from Rialto. Supermarket and places for breakfast all within short walk.
Reception were welcoming and friendly. We didn’t eat any meals in the hotel so it was the rooms and bathroom which were important to us. These were perfect. Small, comfortable and quiet, apart from the noises of Venice which is one of the reasons to stay. The air con worked perfectly. Lovely hot, powerful shower. Spotlessly clean bathroom.
Very happy to have stayed here and would return.

Stayed there for a few nights with family. The hotel is easy to find and staff is wonderful. Incredibly clean! And the location was perfect, minutes away from Piazza San Marco. The only downside is there is no lift, but all the rest more than made up for that.

This hotel was fantastic. Exactly what we expected from online booking.. Perfect location. Close to everything. View of the canal from the room. Room was quaint and lovely with characteristic Venetian decor. Spacious for two people sharing. Hotel was very clean throughout. Every single staff member was welcoming, helpful and friendly. I highly recommend!!!

hotel is in the mid of Venice. 5 steps to San Marco and Ponte Rialto. Fairly easy to reach (considering Venice). Rooms are nice and clean. We had a family room with a separate room for kids.
The team is very friendly and nice - can recommend the hotel and I would stay again there.

Great hotel, location and price but not if you are in room 102. The reception, computer room and breakfast room are all located on the first floor. The ground floor is a restaurant. The only room on the first floor is 102. When I made the phone reservation I was repeatedly asked is the first floor alright with you? I ask whether the room was quiet and whether there were any problems with it and the reply was it was a great room. How was I to know the layout of the first floor. The room was abutting the reception. When I got there I was asked the same question by the receptionist. I should of asked to see the room first but being polite I ask whether the room quite and got the same reply.
Any way I was stuck with the room and had to put up with continuous noise from the Tv and internet room despite complaning repeatedly about the problem. Avoid room 102 but not the hotel.

I was traveling by myself, having not been to Venice before. I found a fun, stress free, though slightly crowded way to enter the city from the airport was a shared water taxi that I scheduled through the ‘Get Your Guide’ app with Bucintoro Viaggi Water Taxi Company. While the combination bus to Vaporetto from the airport is the least costly way to enter, the thought of securing tickets and taking a new mass system after flying from New York was too daunting for my jet lag, regardless of the bus’ 8€ fee and Vaporetto’s 7.50€ cost. A private water taxi is a glorious splurge at about 150€. At $36.53 USD, the shared water taxi was a fun middle ground for me. The walk to Antica Locanda al Gambero from the Rialto Bridge stop is less than 5 minutes and very easy. If you worry about becoming lost on the walk to the hotel, I recommend the Google Maps App. It’s a relatively straight walk to the hotel. Have a great time!

There is always someone at the receptionist office, they will gladly help you and hold onto your luggage.
No they overlook a canal but there’s no room there for a taxi dock. The hotel is excellent at explaining which stop to get off on The Grand Canal then it’s just a short walk to their front door.
I recommend catching the public ferry which we did from the train station. It’s easy & you can buy ferry pass to cover the days you are staying for other ferry trips like to Burano/Murano. The private taxi will charge allot one way and sits very low to the dock so you’re lifting luggage up out of the boat onto the dock. Ferry just walk on & off wheeling luggage behind you.
The hotel is in Venice town where there are no roads for cars however there are car park areas on the outskirts the cost is around 18 euro per day, I would recommend parking at the train station or taking the ferry over to Venice and leaving the car at the airport. The charges at both of these will be around 10 euro a day dependent on when you book and how many days you are staying. Hope that helps.
