"Antica Locanda Sturion," probably Venice’s most ancient hotel still running, is a cosy small Venetian House featuring just 11 rooms. Its decor, the ancient style furniture and the Venetian red damask and brocade make it special, creating a truly traditional unique and cosy feeling. A welcoming place from the past with superb and very impressive views on the Grand Canal and Rialto Bridge from the two Superior Rooms and the beautiful Breakfast Lounge, which is also: - a reading room with a tiny yet well-stocked library boasting a number of books in various languages.- a living room for an afternoon break and taking photos of the magnificent sunsets on the Grand Canal. You have just to take a look in the evening or early morning to breathe the magic of Venice and take a dip in the past and its atmosphere. Truly a breathtaking view! This Boutique Hotel is a small and well-established family business run by Nicole, Manuela, Erica, Flavia and Helen who will do all their best to provide you with specific suggestions and advice for an unusual and intriguingly unique approach to our town. And in all our old-style rooms you will find the kettle to prepare a good cup of tea or coffee with complimentary cookies to rest after a long city tour. In a nutshell the right place to breath a truly Venetian and romantic atmosphere. As there is no lift to reach the Locanda, situated on the top floor of an Ancient Palace on the Grand Canal, we want our Guest to be aware they have to climb a long stairs. The hotel is smoke-free. Recall that the hotel offers breakfast for Celiac (Gluten Free) Features:- Gluten-free breakfast for Celiac.- Bar- Breakfast buffet: 08:00 am to 9:30 am- Kettle with Tea & Coffee & Biscuits in all rooms- Check out: 11:00 am- Check in 02:00 pm on- Our restaurant "Bistrot de Venise"- Our Residenza Bistrot de Venise flats Facilities:- Breakfast for Celiac (Gluten Free)- Library in several languages, dedicated to Venice’s history and art.- Parking, special Garage agreement in Piazzale Roma- 10% discount at TripAadvisor & Michelin Top rated "Bistrot de Venise"- Internet Point: complimentary- Free Internet Wi-Fi: complimentary- I-Pad: complimentary use for our Guests (if available)- Fax service- Classical Music Concerts: schedules and booking- Tourist information of any kind- Tour of Murano glassworks and the Laguna islands, schedules and booking- Baggage room- Paid transfer service on request.

My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel in September last year for my 21st birthday trip. I made the hotel aware it was a visit to the hotel for a special occasion and a week or so before we arrived, they emailed to say they could offer us a free upgrade of the biggest apartment! It was amazing!! It was just down the street from the main reception and breakfast room. This was fine for us, yes, there are about 70 stairs to walk up to get to the reception and breakfast room, however this is advertised when we booked so cannot complain about that at all. The breakfast room was so lovely over looking the grand canal and just oust side the Rialto bridge. Our room/ apartment overlooked a street, so was lovely and quiet, but if you peered out the window far enough, you could spy the grand canal! Clean and comfy beds, lovely warm shower and just about everything we needed. Good wifi. Lovely, ancient, Venetian style. Would 100% recommend this hotel to anyone okay with walking up stairs! It’s gorgeous! We found it so close and easy to get everywhere. We enjoyed the restaurant just down the end of the street by the hotel, overlooking the grand canal and two for one happy hour cocktails most days! We obviously stayed in September so the weather was gorgeous, so lovely and hot walking around beautiful Venice. Local buses to get you to and from the hotel, but we recommend getting a water taxi, they are great!! All drivers, waiters, staff we communicated with were all very helpful and good with directions. The hotel were very helpful with giving us maps and directions to get over to all the islands, which we did one day - Murano, Burano and the Lido. Defo recommend if you have time. We also did a gondola ride, a visit to Doges Palace and walked through the Bridge of Sighs, went up the St Marks Campanile tower and lots of window shopping. We had some great meals and drinks out to. So many fab restaurants around. The pictures just don’t do Venice or the hotel justice. Loved every minute!

This hotel is a small hotel with breakfast room overlooking the grand canal
A couple of rooms have grand canal views and must be superb
our room was comfortable but on the small side as most rooms are in Venice
The decor is traditional venitian plush damask fabric lined walls in the bedroom very atmospheric.
Bathroom was rather dated but had everything needed
you might want to bring your own soap and hair shampoo.
breakfast is a treat overlooking the canal
Much is made in other reviews of the 4 th floor location with no elevator which really should not be an issue and its part of the charm. If you can't manage to lug a bag up some stairs maybe Venice is not for you.
staff are hospitable and helpful.

I can not say enough good things about this hotel. It was the perfect place to end my two week vacation in Italy. The hotel is beautiful, ideally located, and so welcoming. I LOVED my stay here. The staff was friendly, and went beyond and above to help make my stay perfect. The room was comfortable, well decorated and I could not believe my eyes with the view from the window! The staircase is a beast, but the hotel let me know in advance what to expect, so I was ready for it. It actually added to the charm. Be prepared to carry your luggage up three flights of stairs. If you're prepared for that, everything else is perfect. The location only steps away from the Rialto Bridge is idealistic. I literally can't say how much I loved staying at this hotel. I was texting friends back home bragging about what a wonderful experience it was. I imagine you will too! Antica Locanda Sturion is perfect.

The views of the Rialto Bridge and Grand Canal that are posted are accurate! This hotel really is that close, though with only 11 rooms, not all of them have this view. Being near the Rialto makes it very easy to orient yourself as well, whether wandering on foot or taking the water bus which has two stops very nearby. It's an easy walk to the Piazza San Marco or an even easier walk to the water bus stop that will take you there! The front desk was so helpful and friendly. They encourage you to ask questions and say they actually miss it when people don't! Breakfast was served in a room that was literally outside our room's door. It was almost breakfast in our room! In addition to the European breakfast options of meat and cheeses, they made us an omlette and that along with a cappucino, set us up for the days of exploring. The room was comfortable enough and the air conditioning worked! The only downside is that there is no elevator and you must walk up three flights. There are MANY steps in Venice, not just in this hotel. Be aware that heavy suitcases you can't lift are a bad idea in Venice! We packed three small ones for two people instead. As long as you can handle the stairs, highly recommend this little gem of a hotel!

What a lovely little hotel. The location ( Grand Canal/Rialto) is brilliant. The side street it’s on is quiet and safe. The hotel itself feels very safe – entry is by buzzer/camera only, you can’t just walk in – and there is someone on reception 24/7. Central for walking everywhere or for catching a vaporetto & lots of cafes/restaurants/shops.
The staff are great – polite, friendly and helpful. Hotel couldn’t have been more helpful before the trip – email queries answered promptly (in English) and links sent to book tickets, info about transfers/directions, even a website for the weather forecast (3bmeteo.com) - grazie nuovo Erica.
We had a room at the front over the Grand Canal; the view is incredible and we loved feeling right in the heart of all the activity. Any sounds coming up didn't bother us at all. If you don’t have a room with a view the little breakfast room is lovely with its views over the Grand Canal/Rialto Bridge. Our room was off the breakfast room and that wasn't an issue either - inside the hotel is very quiet.
It won't be for everyone as it is up very steep stairs. It’s also simply appointed – eg blankets not duvet - maybe think welcoming guest house rather than corporate 5*. However, I stayed for 5 nights with my daughter for my 60th and we both absolutely loved it. The historic building, the traditional decor, the location, the views and the staff all contributed to a wonderful stay. Would definitely go back!

It was the worst experience so far,
The staff is not nice or professional , and doesn’t seem that they learned this field.
They don’t have an elevator and when we asked for a help with the luggages the answer was “ I cant give you this service since I have to sleep” (to mention that we are 3 girls with 5 luggages, and in the booking they didn’t mention that they don’t have an elevator or that our room may be in the 4th floor)
Also when we asked them to bring us battery so we could use the scale from the “reception” the answer we got is “ we don’t have this service”.
When One of us walked into the cafeteria to talk on the phone since we have a small room for 3, the reception guy claimed that I cant go talk in there because there is a client sleeping.. well I don’t know what kind of hotels have rooms in the cafeteria..
The room was dirty and full of dust.
In one word don’t book!!

Response from Sergio Fragiacomo, Direttore generale at Antica Locanda Sturion Residenza D'Epoca
Responded 9 Oct 2022
Buongiorno, Thank you for your second review. We would like to point out that before your arrival at the hotel, in addition to pictures and online descriptions of the location of our hotel (third floor without elevator) we have sent you a message as a reminder. The cleanliness of the hotel and the rooms is very important for us and we spend a lot of time, every day, to clean the rooms impeccably. I’m sorry you didn’t mention it during your stay, we would certainly have cleaned the room immediately. A triple room is 25 m2, the same room you booked online with all available images (of the room and the bathroom). We are a small hotel of 11 rooms with two rooms close to the breakfast room. It happens sometimes in the evening or at night that our night guardian asks customers not to make noise in the breakfast room in respect of those who are resting. Surely, we did not asked rudely to do not be noisy but the noise is something that we must control. I would like to point out that we are in Venice an historic city where every building, every bridge, every street has a story to tell and it often happens that hotels are not equal to the rest of the world (at least in the location of the spaces). As we have already answered the review posted on google a few days ago, we always take care of the the point of view of our guests, and as far as possible we always try to improve all our services. I’m sorry to have to answer to your further negative review and in this case also false (no one has ever told you that must sleep instead of helping you with the suitcases) the result of a spite because my previous answer did not satisfy you. Anyway, for the last time I hope: Our best wishes that you may learn to treat others with more kindness and respect. Take care LOCANDA STURION TEAM

Had a brilliant 3 day / 2 night stay, we were lucky to book the canal view suite which is fantastic to be able to sit in the window and watch the world go by on the Grand Canal. The rooms feel very authentic and old Venitian but very clean and comfortable. All staff are very friendly and a special shout out to Erica for her help and recommendations. Breakfast was great and will set you up for a day's exploring. Great location - easy access for airport boat service and vaporettos, also right in the centre of things so you can explore in all directions. Thoroughly recommend staying here!

I set out to find a hotel with great views of the Grand Canal at a rate that would not completely blow the budget. The Antica Locanda Sturion Junior Suite with Grand Canal View absolutely delivered. The view to the Rialto bridge was very special - just take a look at the web cam on the website.

The decor reminded me of a Tudor palace, reds, golds and wood. Some of the pictures online made me think of an old English pub but it really is quite stylish. The bathrooms are traditional no frills. The staff were friendly and helpful.

We left the windows open at night to listen to the live piano music playing in the restaurants below and general hustle and bustle of the canal. This was fantastic but a challenge early next morning as the boats started up and revved their engines. The up side was I got up at 6:30am and photographed Venice. Piazza San Marco is a 10 minute walk when there are no crowds. Light sleepers might be disturbed in the morning even with the windows and shutters closed. Personally I’d still choose the view and atmosphere - Opera singers on Gondolas are a thing!

The breakfast room has that great view of the Canal. There’s only two tables that actually have a view but you can come and sit there at anytime during the day and watch the world go by. There’s even tea, coffee and very nice Italian biscuits available during the day. Breakfast is continental plus a limited range of cooked eggs mainly. For us there was a good range of choice which was sufficient.

What I consider great value does come with one compromise. As others have written in their reviews, the hotel is on the third floor and the only access is via stairs. I’m middle aged, average fitness according to Apple and was quite puffed carrying up 2x hand luggage about the same weight as a suitcase.

In summary, absolutely perfect and great value if you really want to experience the views and atmosphere of the Grand Canal in a traditional setting.

Hotel located near main attraction Ponte Di Rialto , breakfast room overlooking Grand Canal.
Travelled with teenager felt safe and hotel in great location with easy access to all Venice sightseeing.
Room we stayed in was beam ceiling and matching chairs wallpaper and bedding- at first glance proper Venetian old style - but I think that was such quirky touch felt like previous century. We loved it .

Bathroom modern with great shower. No hairdryer was provided.

It was hot July so needs air con as room felt hot - but I think due to building being antic not sure if air con centralised is even possible.

No lift so if you are elderly you would have to take narrow stairs - again must be nature of building being built in many years ago .

Access to hotel by water taxi or by foot but no car etc .
Staff was lovely, breakfast was great .
Easy communication with hotel .
Space to leave suitcases if needed for late or early check out etc .
Overall we had great stay and definitely coming back soon .

Very nice hotel with a perfect situation to discover Venice by walking around in all 6 town parts. We got the family suite with view to the Rialto bridge and could follow the Venetian traffic from early morning to late night. Hotel night guard and breakfast officer are there to make your stay simply perfect.

This sounds like a double room with a private bathroom but I don’t think it will have a canal view unless it specifically says so. You have got to ask for a canal view room. J
