Detailed Reviews
We loved this charming hotel. The location is great - a less than 10 minute walk and you can be at the Rialto bridge, St Mark’s square, and water taxi stand to go to Murano/Burano. Meanwhile, it’s surrounded by shops and close to main streets. Plenty of eating options nearby. Plus, there is a small canal in front which allows for easy transfer to/from the airport via a water taxi if so desired. The staff is super nice and friendly. They arranged a water taxi to take us to the airport at 7 am and packed us bagged breakfasts that morning. The breakfast is also very nice. There is a good range of food and you can eat at a quiet, charming dining room before you start your day with crowds of tourists. We stayed at a junior suite with a Queen and 2 twin beds for a family of 4 with 13 and 16 year old. The rooms are not very large, but we were fairly comfortable especially when you can easily just walk out to Venice. Air conditioning is a hit or miss in Italy and this place definitely has good air conditioning! One issue for some is that you have to climb a flight of stairs to get to the hotel. If not a big deal, then this is no issue at all. This hotel definitely sets the perfect vibe for our family. If I find myself back in Venice, I will definitely stay here again!

Beautiful historic hotel in the center of Venice. Rooms were quite large with comfortable beds and good, strong air conditioner (much needed in August with temps approaching 100-degrees F). No elevator, but the porter delivered our bag to the room, which was nice. Breakfast room was convenient and had a wide selection of pastries, meats, cheeses and breads. Delicious made-to-order espresso drinks and caffe lattes were much appreciated. Close to EVERYTHING!! Literally step out the door and you're in the middle of the action. Go to the left, explore one area...go to the right, explore another. Also close to the water taxi to the airport, which was great for us with a 7:00 AM departure.

Dear Mr. Jan, thank you for choosing us once again and we are pleased that you found yourself well. your feedback is very importat to us. As for the room temperature, each room is equipped with a regulating thermostat and the customers can adjust the temperature in their room as they prefer. The towel racks, instead, are centralized so it has to be request at the reception staff. Unfotyunately the building is very ancient so for this reason is not possible to have a lift, but we have a porter service for our guests, you can ask at the front office. We hope to see you again this year. Best regards Front Office Dpt.

The best thing about this hotel is the fantastic location. Room was comfortable and decent bathroom. It was grate value too.
Staff were very friendly and gave us a map and lots of recommendations and help.
Breakfast was average (at best).
Overall for a mid-range hotel at the price we paid we were delighted and would highly recommend.

This hotel is well located in a beautiful part of Venice. It is about a 30 minute walk from the rail station or you can take the frequent ACTV Vaporetto number 1 ferry bus to the Ca’ D’Oro stop. From here it is a 3 minute walk to the hotel. Tip: the cost for a single ticket is €7.50 but if you’re planning to spend a day or two in Venice you should purchase the 24, 48 or 72 hour tickets from the kiosk or vending machine. It’ll come handy for exploring Venice.
The hotel is small but stylish, our room was clean and had all we needed. We chose a canal view room which overlooked the bridge outside the hotel. You are surrounded by tourists, restaurants and the buzz of Venice. The staff were friendly and attentive.
As is the case with Venice, you’ll be climbing a lot of steps and this hotel has two flights of stairs to reception, however there did seem to be a stairlift for anyone requiring it.
Breakfast is served from 7.30am.

Picture postcard setting. Super friendly staff and very comfortable. The decoration and attention to detail in the rooms was of a high standard. Felt like a lot more than three stars. Very busy outside but all is peace and tranquility inside. The path and bridge outside were thronged with tourists so it was a relief to step in.

Dear guest, Thankyou for your positive feedback, it is very important to us. We are located near Rialto, so during carnival and high season there are a lot of people that walk arount the property, as in whole Venice. we were very pleased with your appreciation for our historical building, we hope to welcome you again in the future. Best regards

I was really disappointed by the hotel. We went for my fiancé's 30th. Which I did actually let the hotel know but there was nothing additional done for this. I wasn't expecting much but some nice words or a personal touch might have been appreciated.
Upon arrival there are loads of stairs up to the reception and it is unclear where to go and no welcome or anyone that helps with the bags. You would have to go all the way up in order to ask anyone to help so by that stage you are already upstairs.
The first night we both didn't sleep at all, the bed was insanely uncomfortable and bulged in odd places. The pillows incredibly hard. I asked in the morning for another pillow but I was told they were all the same, in the evening I asked a different woman (brunette) who was much nicer and got me a new pillow which was much better. so I think the first woman in the morning just couldn't be bothered to help. The breakfast is very average and includes just dry pastries and some eggs left out, nothing cooked and very minimal.
The hotel is also on SUCH a busy bridge. We probably had a particularly bad room (room 101) as our window went out onto the bridge and there's hundreds of people talking and walking all day and night, so super super loud. then on the other side was the breakfast/kitchen room.
In the rooms the vibe is a really good Venetian look - this is probably the only redeeming feature of the hotel. It is uncomfortable and not good for sleep but it looks Venetian.
Inside the rooms there is no water, no welcome, nothing additional, no toothpaste, no toothbrush, no conditioner, no shaving foam, no razor, no dressing gown. Its v basic.
I wouldn't recommend the hotel. sorry to be harsh. but I would stay elsewhere.

This Hotel was not what we were expecting.
The main staff at the so called reception was not very helpful or friendly.
Food was only breakfast which was very bland and boring. There was only one toaster which held two slices for the whole hotel so as you can imagine long queues for the toaster.
There was only one morning lady who worked the breakfast she was rushed of her feet. But she was the nicest polite person in the whole hotel and smiled everyday under the pressure she had while the snooty two receptionists watched her struggle.
The room we stayed in was on the ground floor next to the restaurant. Room was weird as you could see where the room above us had been taken away but you could see where the floor used to be with electric wall sockets eight foot up the wall. It give a creepy feeling definitely not a romantic room (what happened to the above floor).
Old pictures on trip advisor show this room as a bed upstairs with a small stair case !!!!!!?????
Room was clean as you should expect.
Bathroom smelt ok on arrival but after you could smell the sewers coming up.
Was located in a good position.
Don’t think we would ever return back to Venice overrated for what it really is.
All that way just to go on a gondola.
Not romantic as it smells on the water as this was may we was told by the tour guide that in July and august it’s really smelly.
Beware of the prices of gondola prices vary from 90 euros to 160 euros and they expect a tip for twenty to thirty minutes.
Beware if you are old need wheel chair help or have young children with a buggy it is not worth going to Venice as it is just full of bridges and steps with no ramps. There is no resting places to sit only bars. We are in our fifties we like to sit and watch the world go by but there is nowhere to do this.
Where the place is so closed in by the close buildings google maps does not work properly it’s a nightmare there.
Overall it’s too expensive overated and rundown.
Forget this place if you have any Mobility problems.

Paid almost £300 for one night at this awful hotel.
Firstly we were given a room which had a double bed when we specifically requested single beds, the staff member told us to find the prove it and would only fix it when we did.
I went downstairs with the booking confirmation which stated we requested single beds and the receptionist told us he would change it when we went out for dinner. We then realised the wardrobe door didn’t open and when we told the receptionist he told us he would move our room.
We were then given a room with, again, double beds but this time we had the sound of a generator radiating though the walls. The noise and the fact the bathroom light never turns off, we got absolutely no sleep and the staff couldn’t care at all. They palmed us off, took our money and said they couldn’t do anything.
Do not recommend at all.

Response from Massimo Cappon, Direttore generale at Hotel Antico Doge
Responded 11 Oct 2022
Sad to see you're wasting time on 3 different foolish valuations for the same room, as I can read below, perhaps our previous detailed answer was not enouh to prove you wrong and to balance your mind up. Nothing else to add up, then, no further comment you deserve, no more people like you hopefully popping into our hotels. Also cowardly you did not even mention a word upon check-out, smiling and happily you walked away, just waiting to be off Venice to spit all poison out of your mouth, also claiming fake when you say we self-write all positive feedbacks. What for? For a mostly well-appreciated breakfast and for a room you're the only one to dislike, withouth considering you were offered an upgrade as a better solution. As you can see from the rest of our guests comments, we keep flying high and so we will. Shame on YOU. The Management.

On the positive side, this hotel is very centrally located - it’s about 20 minutes easy walk from St Marks Square, less than 5 minutes from the Rialto bridge and about 5 minutes to the nearest vaparetto stop. It also has a dock right out front if you decide to get a water taxi.
The rooms are very clean and the daily maid service was efficient. All of the staff we encountered were extremely nice and extremely helpful, and very responsive whenever we had questions or issues.
On the less positive side… there’s a lot of steps in this hotel. There’s a long stairway from the street to the lobby and potentially more stairs again to get to your room. The hotel is a warren of hallways. It’s ok, but a real pain if you have bags, and I would not recommend it for elderly folks (there are no elevators). There was only one key provided for the room, which is very annoying when there are four people.
Our family of four stayed in a junior suite. The layout was a bit odd and felt quite cramped - the section with the two single beds had a pretty low roof and a window which looked onto the square outside, which was noisy at night. It was also weird that there was a closet in the room which was locked and not accessible. That felt like something you’d see in a short term rental. I asked for an iron and ironing board and was told I couldn’t have one because “they are not allowed in Venice.” Ummm… really?
Breakfast was ok, but if your rate doesn’t include it, I would not pay extra for it.
Overall, this hotel probably offers good value for money and it’s possible that if you stay in a different room, you’d have a much different experience. My wife liked the hotel more than I did.

A wonderful hotel in a great location. Beautiful decoration in rooms and common areas. Breakfast is very good and the location excellent. The staff was absolutely wonderful, one of our suitcases did not make it and they called the airline several times to make sure the missing luggage would be sent quickly. After check out ,one of the employees helped us to the taxi stop , when he noticed other boats would prevent our taxi from docking he came back and carried our luggage to a different taxi stop location. Great attention to detail and exceptional customer service. Will go back on my next trip.

I don't remember if ours had one. We preferred the lovely coffee service in the dining area. It was included in room rate, and we were able to get coffee even after breakfast time service over.
