Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.

A great location within walking distance of the station. Small but very tastefully decorated bedrooms. We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a room overlooking the canal. Disappointed with the breakfasts - buffet style but with limited choice of food. Good bar area although the

This hotel is just the best for convenience to the bus stop and train station. Also has water bus stop 5 minutes away. The location is also perfect for getting around all the districts of Venice. No need to stay near St Marks square and pay more for a hotel. This hotel serves

Our room was full of dust, dirt and dead mosquitos on the walls. Facilities were old like cold and hot water separated. Shower door destroyed. This was my worst 4 star hotel at BW experience. Normally i am satisfied with the chain, this time not at all. Location is excellent

We made stops along the way to pick up additional people so it took about an hour. I’d say from the last stop, near St Marks, it took about 20 minutes.

Hello, thanks for reading my review. I was a solo traveler so I am just as fussy! The hotel underwent a major renovation last year that everything is new. I don’t really remember any bad smell. There are no wardrobe or cupboard to store clothes, and that probably remove potential smells. The room is also daily made up so you will return fresh and clean. If anything, this hotel sets a level so high that any subsequent hotels I stayed in Italy Were below the par. Any further questions let me know.

"Possibly a room with a view would be nice"
"Ask for a room overlooking the canal!"
"Make sure amenities work properly. No lift available and staircase to third floor was like a rabbit warren."
"Ask for a room not near construction. We had hammering & other noise at 8 AM on a Sunday morning, with scaffolding outside our windows."
"No rooms good as yet- beware."
