Hotel's Favourite
5.0 of 5 bubbles
My wife & I returned for our fifth visit to amazing, enchanting, unique Venice (one of our three most-favourite cities in the world), and we most thoroughly enjoyed our five night stay at Hotel Papadopoli Venezia - MGallery (our first at this property) thanks to so many of the warm, friendly, and truly wonderful team members who provided "World Class" service to both of us, as well as to my brother & his wife, who stayed at the property for six nights.

I can't say enough good things about my wife's & my stay at Hotel Papadopoli Venezia - MGallery from June 20-25.

The location of the hotel is "all-but-perfect", being located in the quieter Santa Croce (our favourite) district of Venice, away from the maddening crowds of San Marco and Rialto, and with numerous very-highly-rated (and much less expensive, offering great "value for money") Osterias and Ristorantes within an easy and comfortable one to ten minute walk from Hotel Papadopoli Venezia - MGallery.

The greeting we received from Manlio when my wife & I checked into the hotel on Monday, June 24, was warm, welcoming, and genuine. Manlio thanked me for my loyalty to Accor, and recognised my status as a Diamond-level member of Accor's ALL frequent guest program.

Because of my status with Accor ALL, my wife & I were upgraded from the Deluxe Room we had booked, to a Deluxe Suite, with a balcony overlooking the canal which is directly in front of Hotel Papadopoli Venezia - MGallery.

Accor obviously values and recognises loyalty, and I must say they do it "better and more consistently" than another frequent guest program (where I hold lifetime elite status in their second highest tier of membership).

The suite was very spacious...the largest room or suite my wife & I have ever had while in Venice, and the bathroom was the largest we have ever had anywhere in Italy, Europe, and/or the UK; it even had a bathtub (a first for us in Europe and/or the UK).

The bed was the most comfortable my wife & I slept in during our trip to the USA, London, and Italy.

The Deluxe Room my brother & sister in law had was also spacious, larger than rooms in two of the other three properties my wife & I had stayed in during our previous four trips to Venice (we stayed in one property twice, in 2012, and again in 2014).

There are way too many of the team members at Hotel Papadopoli Venezia - MGallery who provided such great service to my wife, brother, sister in law, and me, to remember each and every one, but Stefano, Manlio, Anna, Alessio, and Franceso were always friendly and helpful whenever any of us engaged with them for assistance.

It would be remiss of me to not acknowledge and thank the housekeeping team at Hotel Papadopoli Venezia - Gallery: they provided an excellent service each and every day of our stay, and their attention to detail was most pleasantly surprising, as they even emptied the used coffee pods from the coffee machine in our suite, each and every day. They were also quite generous with the Acqua Di Parma soap, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, etc.

Hotel general manager Ms. Pamela Merlini obviously runs a "First Class" operation, and my wife & I felt privileged to meet her before we left the hotel on Saturday morning for our trip to Milan.

Thank you Ms. Merlini and team for having made my wife's & my fifth stay as special and memorable as you did. This was "by far" our best-ever stay in Venice (twenty two nights in total, in 2007, 2012, 2014, 2017, and now in 2022).

If my wife & I are fortunate to be able to return to amazing, enchanting, unique Venice for a sixth visit, we will absolutely stay at Hotel Papadopoli Venezia - MGallery.

I very strongly recommend you seriously consider Hotel Papadopoli Venezia - MGallery if you are planning a trip to Venice.

The location of the hotel is very strategic with proximity both to bus station to the airport but also to Piazzale Roma vaporetto station from where you can catch a vaporetto to anywhere in Venice.
Rooms are not very large but have very comfortable beds and are very silent. The bathroom however is quite large and very comfortable. The cleanness of the room and bathroom is spotless and bed linen is changed every day. Bed and pillows were very comfortable and we are very picky about this.
A very personal touch is the hand written letter from the hotel manager together with some complementary Italian sweets. And the Italian sweets are also coming evening time when you get your bed prepared for the night. In all it makes you feel very welcome. A bottle of water 50 cl per person is served in the room every day.
The stuff both at the reception and the breakfast restaurant are very helpful.

We enjoyed two nights in a junior suite, overlooking a canal. The room was big, tastefully furnished, clean and had a heavenly comfortable bed. The most generously proportioned part was the walk-in shower, which would fit an elephant. The lack of a fitness centre is easily compensated by the relentless walking necessary to discover Venice.
Staff all the way from reception to housekeeping are extremely friendly and helpful, we felt welcome from the moment we came through the door.
The hotel is about a 20 minute walk form St Mark's square and all the other central tourist attractions and traps. After initially being a little sceptical about the location I found this to be a blessing. It is a lot quieter, the area has some lovely small but delicious restaurants and bars that don't only cater for tourists.
Will certainly stay at the Papadopoli again next time we're in Venice.

My husband and I stayed here for three nights in early October. We can’t say enough good things about this hotel. We reserved a Deluxe Double Room, and had a gorgeous view of the canal below and the small piazza across the canal. We were welcomed with a bottle of Prosecco, and a fresh flower in the bathroom. Two of the best cicchetti bars in all of Venice happen to be in the square across the canal, and it is well worth waiting in the line (of mostly locals!) to get some delicious snacks and wine. The room was very clean and the furniture and fixtures were up to date. The room was also very quiet/insulated for good sleep. The shower was an unexpected bonus, with a large rainfall showerhead that made us want to never get out! Breakfast at the hotel, even with Covid protocols in place, was fantastic. There were always plenty of items to choose from; both savory and sweet, and it was all delicious. The staff at the hotel were kind, helpful and friendly. I had read some previous reviews that felt the hotel was too far out of the city center, and too far away from St. Mark’s Square. My husband and I disagree. We loved being in a quieter section of town, and it also felt less touristy. A huge bonus of the location was that it was a very short walk from where our car dropped us off–we were so relieved to not haul our luggage 20-30 minutes to a more “central” location like we saw so many other people doing. Even though it was a short walk over a bridge to the train station, the gardens between the hotel and the more busy transit area made a perfect buffer. If we go back to Venice again, we would absolutely stay at the Hotel Papodopoli. It is just a wonderful hotel!

Stayed over Easter for five nights. Landed at airport around 9pm and took the ATVO bus to the island, was two minutes walk from bus station to hotel. Was checked in by Marco who described where all the sights were and gave details about the hotel. We are members of the Accor loyalty which meant we were eligible for 20% discount on food in the hotel. He took the email address linked to the account and made sure our account number was added to the booking.

Room was small but really comfortable with good view over the canal. Lovely furniture and all rooms looked a bit different. Plenty of room for two large suitcases and the cupboards had lots of space. Bathroom was nice size with large walk in shower and high end toiletries in full size bottles and lots of additional amenities in bathroom. Room was spotless and cleaned daily very quickly. Lovely comfortable bed and lots of plugs and usb charging points by the bed too.

It’s about 20 minutes to St Marco but it means you can adventure around and get lost in all the little streets. There are a number of lovely restaurants that are high quality and good value around the hotel as well as lots of cafes and bars. I really can’t fault the location, hotel quality or cost. This really needs to be your go to hotel in Venice if you’re looking for a lovely comfortable stay.

Hotel Papadopoli's location can't be beat if traveling multiple cities in Italy via train. It is located (walking distance) right next to Piazzale Roma with water taxis and Venezia Santa Lucia, which makes it convenient when traveling with luggage. We ended up taking the water taxi to Piazza San Marco (Basilica di San Marco, Museo Correr, Palazzo Ducale) which was cheaper and more comfortable than a gondola, and offered a nice view of the Rialto Bridge. There are several sandwich shops and wine bars nearby, as well as nice restaurants all within walking distance. Hotel staff were accommodating and friendly, shoutout to the evening bar staff for going above and beyond with the bottle service. We did get the breakfast buffet which had a large selection of meats, cheeses, eggs, quiche, pastries, fruit, bread/pancakes, etc. and friendly service. Two elevators, nice furnishings. The room was comfortable, there was one USB charging slot next to the bed, otherwise bring a converter if applicable. The breaker tripped once, but was promptly addressed by hotel staff. One room had a view of the garden, the other did not have much of a view if that is what you're looking for. Overall we had a great stay here.

The location of this hotel is fantastic...close to (but not right on) the Grand Canal, near the train station (although expect to go over two or three bridges with steps, not ramps, on the walk from the train station to the hotel), near restaurants, ferries, gondola/taxi pickup points and shops.

The rooms are reasonably sized, and one has everything that one really needs in the room. This said, the rooms are not as well appointed as I'm used to for Accor given the price point, and as well the rooms lacked certain amenities that I'm used to with higher-end Accor hotels (e.g., no espresso machine...just a hot pot for boiling water).

All in all, it was a good experience, and I would stay there again. I'd just say that given the price, it's a good idea to carefully review the inclusions.

Response from Pierpaolo Cocchi, General Manager at Hotel Papadopoli Venezia - MGallery
Responded 18 Nov 2021
Dear Guest, Thank for you kind review and for sharing your recent experience with us, highlighting the favorable location of our hotel. All our rooms furnishing and decors come from local artisans and have been accurately selected by our interior designers. A special attention was given in offering the highest standards and comfort to our guests, with some plus dedicated only to our gorgeous Suites (like luxury bathroom amenities, nespresso machine, “bowers & wilkins” music speakers) Due to the Covid-19 pandemic we must now follow a strict health & safety protocol to prevent virus spread. We were hence forced to reduce at minimum all equipment (no more paper, only digital) and to adapt some internal practices, like replacing all glasses and cups in guestrooms with mono-use plastic glasses (for water) and recycled paper cups (for tea and coffee). We hope we could get back to our usual standard as soon as possible, hopefully with the occasion of your next stay with us at the Papadopoli! Kind regards Pierpaolo Cocch, General Manager

A great welcome. Lovely, sumptuous decor. The restaurant is very special, both for breakfast and dinner. The location is perfect, being just round the corner from the ‘bus station (for connections to the airport), water bus /vaporetto stops and a few minutes from the Railway station. The hotel is only a short walk from the beautiful back streets of Venice, with restaurants and bars aplenty on the doorstep.

Thoroughly recommended!

Enjoyed a brief 2 night stay as part of a last minute getaway.
During prior visits we typically stay in areas closer to the central sites, but enjoyed being exposed to a different neighborhood and its quieter surroundings. This allowed us to see and walk through areas that are more residential than touristic, watching venetians play or walk their dogs, although there were still plenty of tourists dragging suitcases.

We found lots of great local restaurants, and none of the sites we “typically” visit was more than a 30 min walk, many closer.

The hotel staff was friendly and their breakfast buffet was enjoyable. Although they served all of the items, there were numerous egg dishes, meats, cheeses, fruit, breads, etc to choose from.

Our room was small though no different than what you typically find in Venice for the price point, and all the soft and hard goods were in good condition. The shower was oversized, although there was no place to store soap or shampoo within the shower; you had to put things on the floor or balance them on the tip of the wand. The rainfall heat provided great pressure, and there was no problem with interior noise from our canal-facing room. As others note, there’s only a hot water pod for instant coffee, not the pod type machines you increasingly find in most hotels.

While there’s something to be said about staying in a small, historical property, this isn’t such a place but there’s nothing I would fault about the hotel at all. It certainly doesn’t feel like a hotel with 100 rooms and as noted, we got to see a different part of Venice than we typically have. Certainly convenient for the train or bus station, and a private water taxi was only 20 minutes to/from the airport. Unless you found the place for you that you must return to in Venice, this hotel is certainly worth considering.

We were so glad we chose Hotel Papadopoli for our special time in Venice. The staff went out of their way to make our stay very special. We were given the Casanova Room which we absolutely loved and had a nice view of the canal and beautiful old buildings. It was quite expensive so we did have some expectations and we were not disappointed. The only thing I felt could have been improved upon was breakfast. It was fairly basic and we expected more from a hotel of this standard. It did not measure up to the breakfasts we experienced in other quality hotels we stayed in on this trip. I would highly recommend the hotel though it is in a nice location and feels very special.

The hotel could provide a service if you asked in advance or there are porters dotted around the railway station. Depending on the size of your bags, it's not that far to walk to the hotel.
