Hotel Berna earns rave reviews for its excellent service, with numerous guests highlighting the staff's friendliness and professionalism. The hotel's prime location near Milan Central Station is frequently praised, making it a convenient base for exploring the city. While opinions on value vary, with some pointing out room inconsistencies and high prices, the comprehensive amenities, including a satisfying breakfast and free mini-bar, are popular among travelers.
Rooms are generally commended for their comfort and cleanliness, although some guests note they can be small or overly warm. The cleanliness of the hotel is widely recognized, adding to the positive experience, but the atmosphere can be a mixed bag, with some finding it welcoming and others disturbed by noise from nearby nightlife.

The hotel's location is ideal and in easy walking distance to the train station and the metro. We appreciated the email sent a week in advance, asking for our preferences so that the room could be customized just for us. The breakfast buffet is excellent with adequate seating spread across several spaces. Our friends selected a standard room and were surprised to find that their room assignment was across the street in an annex. Fearing the worst, they were actually very pleased with their room and had no problem with the short walk across the lightly-used street for breakfast. We were disappointed, however, to find that room-to-room calling is not available between the main building and the annex forcing us to communicate via texts.
We were in Room 526 in the main building. Although, the view was not as nice as we were hoping to have, the room itself was very nice, but a bit crowded by American standards. We had to be creative to find floor space for our luggage. The use of a glass wall did make the room feel larger, although I had to be careful not to step into the glass when navigating my way to bathroom in the dark . The lighting in the room is extremely creative and easy to use. I appreciate the effort to provide closet space with an especially deep safe, but found the sliding doors to be heavy and cumbersome because both doors have to be moved to open either side. Plus, in this room, the smaller drawers on the left side could not be opened as they are blocked by the door, even when the door is slid fully to the right. The bathroom is exceptional, and the blue nightlight is a nice touch. Elevators on both ends of the hallways are handy. IMHO, it is the people who make Hotel Berna stand out among the dozens of hotels in which we have stayed around the world. Without exception, every member of the hotel staff was polite, congenial and ready to take care of every need of every guest. Beginning with Emanuele and Andreas (sp?) at the front desk, and including the man who manages luggage as well as the two men who customized our cups of cappuccino, the service at the hotel could not be better. I couldn't help but notice how Emanuele gave ALL new guests maps of the city and patiently helped each guest locate the places they wanted to see and the metro lines they would need. We had planned to use a train to make our way to the airport upon departure, but that had to be cancelled due to a rail strike. Emanuele patiently discussed our possibilities with us and in the end had a taxi at the hotel at exactly the right time for our departure and at a reasonable price given that taxis could demand almost any price they wanted due to the rail strike. We were very pleased with our stay at Hotel Berna and are pleased to recommend it to any traveler to Milan.

The hotel is located in an easy-to-find location, just a 5-minute walk from Milan Central Station. The hotel staff were kind and arranged for us to return to our room after we arrived just after 2 p.m. The room had a bathtub, a refrigerator, and an electric kettle. Judging from the breakfast guests, it seemed that there were many tourists from Korea and China. There were no Japanese channels on the TV in the room, but there were Chinese and Korean channels. Breakfast was served from 7 a.m. and included fresh vegetables and fruit, as well as a good selection of bread. Shopping at the supermarket inside the central station was also easy, so even though it was my first stay in Milan, I was able to stay there without any stress.

We visited in February 2024, which happened to be over Milan Fashion week, so the city was very busy.
Hotel Berna had really friendly staff and the rooms were great. Nicely sized, with all the amenities you could want. There was a robe and slippers, alongside team and coffee facilities, with some water and fizzy drinks in the mini fridge on arrival.
Breakfast was a nice addition, fresh pastries and juice / coffee which set up up ahead of a days sightseeing.
The night barman was lovely, really chatty and friendly.
The location was a great base for exploring, we used the metro to get around the city and it was extremely handy to the central station when arriving from the airport.
I would stay there again if I was to visit Milan in the future

We have stayed at Hotel Berna on a number of occasions over the years however, on this visit, our Deluxe room was the smallest that we have stayed in here. No space to swing cats of any persuasion around in this room. There was certainly little room for two suitcases and we ended up putting one in the wardrobe. There were mirrors on the doors of the wardrobe and one wall to try and make the room look bigger than it was. The upside was that the bathroom, whilst also quite small, appeared to have been newly renovated.
We had requested a double room, with a view of the rear of another building, which turned out to be just two single beds pushed together. There was a small table on one side of the bed but on the other side, the round table would not fit into the space next to the bed. There were two small covered chairs and a desk with a lamp. There was no other free standing furniture, or room for it, other than a flat screen TV on a bracket attached to the wall. The wardrobe had some drawers and hanging space as well as a safe and the mini bar. The latter contained some free soft drinks but was not replenished during our three night stay.
The bathroom had a sliding door, a small vanity and a walk-n shower (pressure was good).
There was a ceiling fan and the included WIFI worked well.
The two best things about the hotel were the breakfast, a mix of hot and cold dishes - though not as plentiful as under the previous owners - and its location close to the metro and, a little further away, Milano Central Railway station.
Staff at reception and at breakfast were friendly and helpful.
The surrounding area has also been cleaned up quite a bit and, whilst there are still some massage shops near by, there are a lot more cafes and restaurants than there were a few years ago.

This isn’t a bad hotel but, it’s not the 4 star it claims. Rooms are fairly fresh and modern with all the facilities you need including slippers, bathrobes, kettles, mini bar etc but I didn’t like the additional guests in the form of little tiny flies - they were soon dispatched and didn’t bother me too much.
The staff are lovely, very helpful, breakfast is pretty good choice wise too but those little guests (flies) were quite heavily present in the breakfast area especially around the toasting area which was quite gross. Other public areas are very dated as well.

Responded 18 Nov 2024
Dear Travelozzy, first of all thanks for sharing your experience with us! While we are very happy that you particularly appreciated our location, service and room, we are so saddened that the presence of midges in breakfast compromised your full satisfaction. By apologizing for the inconvenience caused and specifying that their presence was absolutely not associated to the cleaning conditions, we are pleased to announce that the problem has been resolved :) Looking forward to welcoming you again very soon, Kind regards Sharon Mariani - Guest Relations Manager

Short, safe, easy walk from train station. Stored my luggage as I arrived too early for check in. Light snacks and coffee available and able to refil my water bottle before exploring for the day. Beautifully cooled room to return to after hot day exploring -complimentary mini bar with some refreshing non alcoholic beverage to enjoy before heading out to dinner in the area where there were many tasty affordable options. Walkable to the Duomo/fashion mall. Breakfast before heading to the train the next morning was delightful with SO many options in the buffet and cappuccino brought to your table by friendly staff. Only stayed one night and it was much better than I anticipated-comfy updated decor and free in room safe made my stay great. Some of the floors had different decor in the halls so not sure if some were different “grades” or if the hotel is being updated. I was on a floor with older hall decor and still found my room more than suitable.

Great hotel spot on location, 5 minutes to the station, 30 minutes to the Duomo, turn right out of the hotel left at the top of the street and straight all the way to the Duomo. Lots of restaurants nearby. (we ate at Papa Nicola it was really good, turn left out of the hotel its on the corner on the opposite side). The room was immaculate as was the bathroom, shower water pressure was brilliant, very nice toiletries too. Very comfy bed, choice of pillows, free soft drinks in the mini bar, tea and coffee in the room also available in the reception area for free. Safe in the room. Great air con. Happy hour in the bar area from around 6pm if you wish to have a drink they provide a free buffet. The front of house staff are first class very welcoming helpful and informative . A credit to the hotel. The cleaning staff also must work very hard as I have said the presentation of the room and bathroom was immaculate they are also a credit to the hotel. Our room was changed without question as the first room we were given was next to the lifts and stairs nothing wrong with the room just my preference not to be close to lifts due to passed experience in other hotels, you tend to get a disturbed sleep. We had to leave early so did not get chance to sample breakfast but of what I have read its pretty amazing too. Will definitely stay here again when we are in Milan. Thanks for a great stay.

I really enjoyed this short stay in Hotel Berna. It is located near enough to the Centre but its price point is far lower than hotels typically located near the Duomo. The rooms were also clean, well appointed and even the basic rooms were big enough for two people to comfortably move about in. I also greatly appreciated the complimentary coffee and snacks located near front desk for guests. The coffee was good despite the fact it was free and it comes in useful if you have a bit of free time in the hotel. I would highly recommend this hotel and would gladly consider staying again in future!

I stayed at the hotel Berna in August. As a solo female traveller, it was really important for me to find somewhere that I felt safe, which I did at this hotel. Check in was easy, and I was even able to sort a late checkout until 2pm for an extra $20. The lady at check in even gave me a map to show where I was and where things were nearby, and she also helped me work out their metro system in Milan. I was only there for 1 night, but I stayed in a Superior Single Room which was perfect. The view was pretty rubbish, but I wasn't there to look out the window! The room felt spacious enough for 1 person, had plenty of plug sockets (you need an adapter) and the bed was comfortable. The air con was fantastic, which was much appreciated as it was 37 degrees when I arrived in Milan! The bathroom was clean and modern. The only thing I'd say is that the bathroom has a sliding frosted glass door, so not 100% private if you are sharing a room. The best thing was that before I arrived, I was asked to fill in a questionnaire about what drinks I would like in my room, what pillows I wanted, how cool I wanted it etc, such a nice touch. It was fantastic that all of the soft drinks in the mini-bar were included! I also follow a gluten free diet, so at breakfast I made the waiter aware and he bought me a box of GF cornflakes, a GF croissant, GF toast. It was great and so nice to be able to have a proper breakfast before I left for the day. The hotel did offer to store my bags when I checked out for free, but I chose to put them in a secure bag drop facility nearby instead. The hotel is about a 5-10 minute walk to the Central station and you can be into the centre (where the Duomo is) in about 10 minutes. I felt safe at this hotel, travelling as a solo female - so would stay here again. I didn't go out late at night though, just to be sure! The hotel ask that you leave your room key with them when going out for the day, for safety reasons (I guess at they keyring has the hotel name and room number) which was fine with me, 1 less thing to carry. Overall I really enjoyed my stay here, and would stay again if I ever came back to Milan!

We stayed at Hotel Berna on January 20-22 and everything was wonderful. We received a very friendly welcome on our entry to the hotel, receptionist Emanuelle was really helpful and gave us great recommendations to explore the surroundings. The hotel''s location is also ideal, with the terminal just a few minutes' walk away, and you can easily walk to the center of Milan. The rooms were super clean and clean every day. The hotel staff were very friendly and always helpful. The breakfast buffet was also quite satisfying and everything was fresh and delicious. A hotel we can recommend!

Hi, I only stayed for one night but I felt ok walking around near the hotel. I did not use the train or metro at night. This hotel is a 5-10 min walk from the station so I cannot comment on how safe the actual station area felt.
There are more places to choose from in the Milan area.
