It is difficult to describe a structure like this, which is nothing short of impeccable and passed with flying colors on all fronts. Starting from the location: the location in the magnificent and very central Piazza Unità d'Italia (the largest and most monumental in Trieste) offers spectacular views and allows you to easily explore the historic center on foot, from the characteristic alleys of the old city to the bright seafront, from the very elegant literary cafés at the Romanesque Cathedral high on the San Giusto hill. Also very convenient for those arriving in Trieste by public transport: the train station is just ten minutes away on foot while the port from which ferries and cruise ships depart is just 300 meters from the hotel. Once through the entrance, an impeccable, welcoming and professional staff welcomes the guest in a luxurious hall, a successful blend of atmospheres of the past and contemporary details. The very large rooms, extremely refined and always spotless, are furnished in a classic style with Central European suggestions. In addition to the comfortable beds, there is a sofa, a well-stocked minibar, an elegant desk with coffee maker and a marble bathroom with a very high quality courtesy line. Spectacular breakfast for the variety of products (especially sweets), very fresh and tasty, to be consumed in the elegant internal lounge or, if weather conditions permit, at the outdoor tables in the splendid setting of Piazza Unità. The staff, affable and helpful, are able to resolve any problem promptly. The bill is obviously quite high but the quality of the stay is absolutely worth the amount spent.

Beautiful accommodation in the city center, possibility for those arriving by car to park a few meters inside that public parking. We were accommodated in a beautiful suite very large and spacious two of the three windows had views of Piazza Unity of Italy famous Trieste square with a beautiful fountain in the center. the hotel has an indoor pool SPA and an attached restaurant with two Micheline stars. We used the services of the SPA and we also booked a dinner at the restaurant. Breakfast in the morning is very well assorted and widely satisfies even the most demanding palates. The only downside is the really little assorted and outdated mini-bar , it seems to look inside a camping fridge with two cans and two bottles of water , since the drinks are paid for separately it is advisable to provide the customer with a more changing range of products . Overall I recommend this hotel to all those who like to travel and stay in high standard facilities.

Just splendid. A view over Piazza Unita d’Italia was exhilarating but only because the accommodation delivered on the first requirements: the room was quiet (double glazed) and sparkling clean (how sweet to walk on polished parquet instead of germ-infested carpet polluted with the DNA of a thousand feet a in most hotels). Yes, the location is unbeatably great but the staff- they found us good restaurants, assessed local museums and even helped us pin down opera options in another city three weeks off and assisted in the cash transfer for the tickets. They found us a first class tour guide who knew the James Joyce material in detail and showed us the architectural landmarks including Mussolini-era buildings and the Roman amphitheatre. They advised us to see the “paleo Christian” mosaics in Aquileia, the most important site of its kind, which was a wonderful excursion. And I think Trieste is indeed an underrated destination.

We stayed at this hotel from January 5th to 6th 2025. Coming from the south, we decided spontaneously to spend one night here. We consciously chose to book directly with the hotel instead of using Booking.com to avoid fees for the hotel. On the way, we called the hotel to check availability and rates. However, upon arriving at the reception and neutrally asking again about room categories and costs, we were told to check in at the neighboring four-star hotel, as it would be cheaper if we couldn't afford this one. This comment, delivered by receptionist Stefania, made us feel completely unwelcome. The service was unfortunately not friendly and welcoming
The check-in process lasted over an hour, during which we had to stand at the reception. After one hour, we were offered an aperitivo while they said our room would be prepared. However, after the aperitivo, there was still confusion about which room we would be assigned. Since we had our dog with us, we were told we would only be given a room without carpet because "our dog would make so much mess." Such a comment is not only unprofessional but also insensitive, making dog owners feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. It is especially upsetting to hear such an assumption about our pet when we are already paying an extra cleaning fee for the dog. Ironically, we were eventually assigned a room *with* carpet, making the earlier remark feel unnecessary and inappropriate.
(!!!) At checkout, we were told we still needed to pay for the room, even though we had already paid. Despite pointing this out, the hotel insisted on payment. Back home, we saw on our credit card statement that the hotel had charged us twice!!!
The room itself was clean and equipped with standard five-star amenities. However, it was very small, and the water pressure from the shower was extremely low (not possible to wash long hair of a woman). The location of the hotel is undoubtedly excellent, but the overall experience did not live up to the expectations of a five-star establishment.
Breakfast was likely standard for Italian hotels, and I understand that breakfast in Italy is generally small, often consisting of just a cappuccino or espresso with a cornetto. However, charging an additional €10 for scrambled eggs in a five-star hotel is disappointing and feels unnecessary. In comparison, Austrian four-star hotels provide far more extensive breakfast options as part of the standard service.
Overall, the price-performance ratio for a five-star hotel was not met. For these reasons, I can only give one star.
Siamo felici di poter tornare a Trieste, ma decisamente non in questo hotel.
Tanti saluti
Magdalena Collins

This hotel enjoys a spectacular location on the city square which is the epicenter of Trieste. Like most Relais and Chateaux hotels their smaller size delivers an intimacy with staff that you just can't get at a large hotel no matter the brand. While we did not have the full multi course gourmet meal in their Michelin starred restaurant, what we had al la carte was not only fantastic but very reasonably priced. They have a beautiful swimming pool in the basement. Wonderful room in a great hotel.

I can’t say enough nice things about this hotel. The interior style is a very well thought-through combination of traditional and modern design. The room itself was spotless with high-quality bathroom fixtures and products. The mattress was really comfortable and sheets and towels were high quality. Illy espresso machine in the room. The very thoughtful turn-down service people left chocolate and cards depicting scenes from Trieste printed on quality card stock every evening. Wifi was fast and reliable. The front desk staff greeted me in a friendly way when I came and went. Staying here contributed to a great stay in Trieste.

It is a hotel that lives on a past of splendor. Despite being in a huge building, the areas of the hotel are small, the photographer has done an excellent job to sell the hotel because only upon entering one is disappointed. Rooms are decorated with a very strange taste, mixing styles that they don’t match together. Of course they show the nice rooms on internet.
There are much more interesting 4-star hotels in the city in an old buildings with very nice renovations at a similar price.

The reception staff, breakfast staff and housekeepers are the best thing about the hotel. I can't say the same about the waiter at Harry's restaurant, who boasts a lot about its historical name but slow and unprofessional service.

Grand Hotel Duchi D'Aosta is perfectly located at the main square of Trieste. If you travel by car the Valet parking service is great. We stayed at a two bedroom apartment because there were no connecting rooms available at our visit. The apartment was excellent clean an light and very specious. The hotel staf is very welcoming and the concierge is very helpfull with arranging anything you need and helpfull tips. We had diner at the Bistro which was good. Of course we tried the two Michelin Star restaurant Piccolo. The food was amazing. The Non alcoholic paring was excellent but we also had the Vintage Drug Rose and that was amazing. The food was of course excellent as can be expected from this type of restaurant. Service was very thoughtful. So we as a family with three adults and one kid had an amazing evening.

To all the staff of I would like to say, "Thank you for a Wonderfull stay"

Horrible experience with Grand Hotel Duchi D'Aosta! Be very careful with your credit/debit card! When I booked this hotel over the phone with their reservation department they asked me for mine credit card just for the security reasons. Even before we came to the hotel they have deduct the money from mine card, plus we have paid our rooms when we were leaving the hotel (we had two rooms for two nights), twelve days later they still didn't pay the money into my account.
Beside the problem with taking the money without my permission they told me one rate per room per night over the phone and different when they send me an email.
The rooms on 4th floor are absolutely horrible, we were in room 401 and our friends in 402. Be advise that there isn't internet on the entire 4th floor, no warm water, and during the night you will hear the heating system or A/C when ever is someone turning the heating or A/C on and off, such a loud noise above 4th floor that you won't be able to sleep like ourselves.
Having said all of this above, will never ever go back there, shame on their bad business model by tricking the guests. We are contacting the local lawyer office due to problem with the money they have taken without permission and keeping them for two weeks now.

The property overlooks Piazza Unità d'Italia, in a perfect position to visit the city.
The staff is courteous and helpful.
Our apartment, a city lodge, was spacious, furnished in a modern and spacious style. Improved soundproofing in particular in the morning.
A plus is the proximity to the underground public parking.
