Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.

Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.

Nestled within walking distance of major attractions, the Hotel Romanico Palace has been commended for its convenient location and authentic Italian charm. While the ambiance earns appreciation, some guests find the decor to be questionable. The staff's attentiveness stands out, though reviews suggest service can be hit or miss, particularly at breakfast.
Room cleanliness is consistently praised, but their size, condition, and noise level receive mixed reviews. Guests enjoy the breakfast and scenic views, yet the value proposition is debated, with additional costs for amenities not always meeting expectations.

Hotel's Favourite
This Hotel has the wow factor. Authentcally Italian with beautiful decor. Our room was so lovely and catered for all our needs.
The staff were attentive and gave good advice on taxi's and the local area.
Breakfast on the 7th floor was delightful, wonderful view. Drinks on the 8th floor also had wonderful views with live music. It is quite expensive up there so be prepared for that. Lovely place for the sunset though.
Turn right out of the hotel and there are plenty of places to eat. Turn left and just up the street is some less touristy places to eat.

We stayed at the Hotel Romanico Palace for a week on our third trip to Rome as part of a package trip we won at a charity auction. So we did not pick the hotel, but it was really perfect for our needs. Our room was nice, the bathroom was great, and the wifi signal was strong. What else did we need?
Since we'd been to Rome before, we were not planning to see all the typical sites again, and this hotel's location was great for getting on the city bus or walking to the hop-on/hop-off tourist buses. It is just a couple of blocks from good restaurants and the Villa Borghese, and we had no problem getting around town using public transportation and walking everywhere.
The front desk staff was helpful and visible, even if the younger people working weren't overly friendly, they were still accommodating. We had breakfast a few days while there and while it's not a typical American breakfast, there was enough variety that we got a good start to the day. We left notes a few days for our maid when we needed our drinking glasses changed or new shampoo, and she seemed to appreciate and understand our "google translate" Italian.
Our favorite thing about the hotel, really, was how quiet it was. It was rare that we rode the elevator with other people or heard voices or footsteps from our room. It could be that it was the time of year we were visiting Rome, as it was February and not crazy-busy like in the summer.
Ok, our second favorite thing about the hotel were the little newsstand and drink stands across the street. I was able to buy bus tickets from the newsstand in the mornings, and we grabbed a bottle of wine and snacks most afternoons to bring up to our room after a day of walking Rome.

The hotel is well situated apprx. 15 min walk from the Spanish steps and 20min from the Trevi fountain. Great for exploring the beautiful city sights. However, there was a continuous noise outside the room which made sleeping much of a struggle. Much to our surprise we noted disappointing customer service at the hotel during our short stay. As a frequent traveller in Europe this by far has been the coldest reception from staff I’ve received from arrival to departure.
Very limited choice of food at breakfast, as soon as we got up to get a coffee our table was cleared within seconds even it being far from busy.
Hotel is clean and tidy and room service ensures this is maintained.
Ensure you book all your taxi rides and excursions independently as the hotel do not tell you that they are increase the prices - for reasons they do not care to share with you.
In future please realise friendliness and a simple greeting upon arrival will go a long way with visitors. I strongly feel the 4* rating provided is not a true reflection and should be recurved. Sadly we are not in a hurry to return to Rome !

Dear Ms. Diane, greetings from Rome. We thank you for emphasizing the centrality of our structure and for appreciating the opportunity to visit the best of the Eternal City remaining distant from the chaos and frenzy of the most crowded points in the center. We are sorry if the variety of food offered for breakfast has not met your tastes and habits, we will treasure your advice to improve our service even more. However, we would like to understand the reason why, with such lightness of mind, you can judge our customer service as "poor" and, above all, how we would have turned out to be "scarce" in this respect. When such accusations are made, accusations that can jeopardize the jobs of people who work hard every day, it would be at least appropriate to detail the facts, specify the circumstances and tell what actually happened. Of course, education and respect would involve dealing with these topics in person but I realize how much simpler it is for some types of people to rise up to judge and swell with critical issues from miles away, in the comfortable anonymity of their own home. It is also curious, how "frequent travelers" like you can suggest to book randomly services on the internet. “Frequent travelers” usually also know that the cost of a service above all outlines its quality, our concern is to offer high-level services to our guests and quality has a price. "Frequent travelers" don't just look at the price but have the ability to give value to a service. Of course you can go to the airport with a shared shuttle, take 6 hours and pay 8 €, otherwise take a Mercedes E-Class with private driver and pay 60 €, this means suggesting to the guests the best way to travel, not to offer more expensive services. However, if you have always eaten sandwiches how can you understand the price of a gourmet dinner? Customer Care is our strength and I do not say it but the 12 years of history behind us. Clients who come in with smiles receive endless smiles and affection, those who arrive in anger instead receive only courteous professionalism from us, it is a matter of respect for customers, which we treat in relation to their attitude. Friendliness is interactive, it cannot be a sterile claim. If you find my words particularly strong it is because we are tired and hurted by such superficial and mortifying judgments, by customers who believe it is an online game but on this side there are people, whose lives cannot depend on people with such a low sensitivity. Kind Regards Vincenzo

The hotel is in a great location. You can walk to the main sites within half an hour, although a trip to Vatican City will need the Metro.
The staff at the hotel were really friendy and helpful. They signposted us to a couple of excellent local restaurants serving authentic dishes.
The decoration of Hotel Romanico is designed to make it feel like you are in ancient times, but some areas, such and corridor walls and room doors need a little attention. Otherwise, the hotel is lovely and clean.
It costs €25 to use the spa, which is merely a steam room, sauna, a tropical shower and cold water bucket, as well as a couple of rooms with wooden beds to relax. As it is so small you have to book. We had one use of the spa included but not sure we would have paid €25.
Breakfast has limited hot food but has plenty of variety for a continental breakfast.
Hotel Romanico is a great base away from the main centre. Other than sleeping we spent little time in the hotel as we packed in as much sightseeing as possible. We would base ourselves there again if we return to Rome.

We stayed at Hotel Romanico for my boyfriends birthday in December.
I would say that the photos of the hotel online look nicer than it is in real life, unless you book one of the expensive rooms you get a very standard style room, but painted in a Roman style, which is nice but a little tatty and tired in places.
Tea facilities were chargeable so be sure to take your own.
The view from the roof is lovely, you can't see any of the tourist sights from here, but it is a nice view out over the roof tops in Rome.
Breakfast was basic but nice, mostly pastries, breads and cereals. Which suited me but my boyfriend was expecting to be able to have a full cooked breakfast. There were bits of scrambled egg or bacon out each day, so he didn't go completely without.
Normally when we stay at a hotel for a birthday we receive a nice little message card from the hotel or a small token gift, there wasn't anything like this which was a little bit of a let down, it's the nice little things like this that you remember and make a trip special, was a little disappointed as we had paid extra for this hotel rather than going for one the cheaper options.
Overall location was good, was about 20 / 30 min walk to most of the metro links, there were some nice restaurants not too far away, we had a nice stroll down to the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain one night which was lovely.

Dear Anna, Thank you so much for your warm words and taking the time to share your impressions with other travellers. It was a great pleasure to welcome you to Romanico Palace Hotel! We are happy that overall your experience in our Hotel has been positive, even if we have read some comments that we will share with our Management in order to improve our services. We are sorry that we were unable to pay you a little gift while celebrating your birthday. Unfortunately, when reservations are made through intermediaries, certain information is not notified to us and therefore we have a limited ability to know about these important events. My wife and myself are nearing the end of a most enjoyable 6 night stay at the Romanico Palace Hotel which in a great central location - 5 & 10 minute walk respectively to the No 7 On/Off Bus Stop (a service we made good use of by buying 72 hour tickets for Euros 32 each) and the Spanish Steps.
Our room (#630) was a decent size with a most comfortable bed and both a bath & standalone shower (with plenty of hot water). It also had blackout curtains and we hardly heard any noice (internal or external) throughout our stay.
A buffet style Breakfast was included in our rate and this is served on the 7th floor offering panoramic views of Rome. The staff were also most helpful - a common feature throughout the property, particularly on the Front Desk who quickly dealt with our queries. Last but not least, the Housekeeping team also did a great job.
All in all, this has been a most enjoyable stay - one we would gladly repeat on any future visits to Rome.

Friendly attentive but not intrusive employees greet you, assist and are always available to answer any questions you have about the hotel or Rome and the surrounding area. The rooms are comfortable spacious (we had a delux) and have everything you could need. The bathroom had a bath and a shower. We ate breakfast there, did not use the bar nor the Spa but the bar area did look well enough stocked etc. Breakfast selection was more than adequate and was constantly refreshed. The hotel is in a great location and we had no difficulty walking to Vatican, the Colosseum, the Spanish Steps, the Trivi Fountain Harry’s Bar and the countless restaurants of all types in and around Rome centre. If you don’t fancy walking the are more than enough taxis available to and from the Hotel. We would not hesitate to use again.

My husband and I stayed at the Romanico Hotel for four nights.
We wanted to celebrate our first wedding anniversary in a beautiful place and enjoy every moment but unfortunately we missed it.
We only had problems during our stay and this establishment is certainly not a "palace" and a 4 stars hotel.
When we arrived, I asked the reception to change our bedroom because we didn't have a double bed but two small mattresses in one bed (impossible to sleep properly without the mattresses moving and falling in the middle).
The next day, we changed our bedroom, but again, problems ... the mattress was very hard (impossible to sleep properly on it). Then, there was a 2 centimeters hole between the front door and the front wall (so we could hear everything in the corridor, light and draughts).
Then, we asked for a new bedroom again for the third time. The bed was ok but some details were not so good (hanging spotlight, hole in the ceiling).
The hotel is old and badly maintained. Nobody checks the rooms before the guests arrive?
For the breakfast, it was horrible. How is it possible to mess up scrambled eggs? I spit it out. coffee as well. The choice is really thin and of poor quality. This on not a four stars buffet. We didn't even go back to the hotel for breakfast for the next 3 days even though we paid for it. We preferred to go to a cafe near the hotel, even if it meant losing money, at least we could eat outside the hotel for cheaper ans better quality.
I have to admit, however, that the hotel staff was friendly. The hotel was clean. These were the only positive points of our stay.
We spent more than 500 euros for this stay and we are really disappointed. The hotel is not a palace, not a 4-star hotel. We will not come back and we do not recommend it.

Dear Marion, We are very sorry to hear you that you were unhappy with your recent experience, as a team we always strive to leave only the very best impression with all our guests and we are disappointed that this was not the case. To be honest we are disappointed to receive this comment after all the previous very positive reviews. There are some aspects that we know we need to improve on, but others that are subjective and which we regret receiving criticism. As for example the mattress, on which we receive many compliments or comments like yours. We have relied on professionals in the sector putting comfort in every room. The exclusive mattress is custom designed to create the perfect foundation for deep, calming sleep, while plush pillows, crisp sheets and a fluffy duvet wrap you in comfort. As regards breakfast, our best service has always been both for the location: an exclusive terrace on the 7th floor, and for the quality of the food we use. We are always open to comparison and improvement but not receiving comments like that, which in our opinion are disrespectful and cannot allow us to improve. It seems important to me to underline that you booked through a special deal and this sum was spent for 4 nights on New Year's Eve. The next opportunity we will try to raise the cost of the nights and therefore also improve our services, everything is related. it's important to remind that our "Palace" is a very important historical residence, built in 1887. Before entering looking up at the corner of Via Piemonte, you can see the historical plaque which testifies to the year of birth of the building. The reconstructions of this have been entrusted to the famous architect Gaetano Koch, he wanted to preserve the unique characteristics of an historic residence with marble and antiques elements . We are proud to be an historic hotel, a sort of “art museum”, nothing to do with standardized hotels However we would therefore be grateful if you would get in touch with us for your next trip in Rome. We know as 4 stars Hotel, we can and will meet and exceed your future expectations and just hope you give us the opportunity to do so. Grazie Alessandro

Before I get into the items that prevented a 5 star review, let me hit some good points.
It is definitely clean and service has been awesome. It is a 30 minute walk to the Colosseum and a majority of sites are in between. Plenty of restaurants close. Post office is close. Google maps will tell you which routes of the bus to ride to get where you want to go if it is outside the 30 minute walking range.(our set limit) staying here has been very good.
Now for the others. The breakfast is not amazing as i have read in some reviews. Its ok and better than spending Euros. The card reads "SPA". Don't be fooled. Their idea of spa is for you to find, call, make an appointment and to give an outside masseuse a room in the basement for your massage. That's it. The decor, while attractive, appears to want to look old and instead looks cheap.
On the whole the stay was good. If you require more pampering then this will not be for you. If you are looking for a no frills room that you can walk to the tourist sites, then we can definitely recommend this hotel . Good luck - Ray and Hermie

Response from CustomerCareDept, Responsabile relazioni pubbliche at Hotel Romanico Palace
Responded 15 Feb 2020
Dear Guest, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave your feedback following your recent stay at the Romanico Palace Hotel. We are glad your experience with us has been positive, despite some things that you didn't like. We for any doubt before booking always ask to be contacted; we understand that not many sites are clear for information. We take this opportunity to say that ours is a small wellness center that respects the style of the Hotel. This consists of a small path consisting of Sauna, Turkish Bath and emotional shower, we do not provide treatments or massages. We hope you will return to us very soon and look forward to welcoming you back to the Romanico Palace! Grazie mille Alessandro

Yes there is aircon
You will need to check out both of your queries directly with the property before taking any booking action.
My own comments are that the only meal you will have at the Hotel is a Buffet Breakfast but - more importantly - the Hotel (like many others in this part of Rome) - is rather cramped for space and not, in my view, ideal for wheelchair users.
Yes it does, great restaurants on top floor
Dear Guest, it depends on the type of booking. Please don't hesitate to contact us directly for further information.
Kind Regards
HRP
