This charming and reasonable priced hotel is very well located to see all the sights of Rome. St. Peters and the Castel St. Angelo are a 5 minute walk away, and it's a pleasant 15 minute walk across the beautiful bridge of the Angels to reach the downtown (Piazza Navona, Campo De'Fiori). The metro station is about a 10 minute walk.

The hotel was very clean, with beds freshened daily, clean linens, hot showers. I really liked the little breakfast room where you could store food and snacks, which was for everybody to use. The hotel is located on a quiet street, but there is a nice market and small supermarket nearby and a cafe around the corner. There is a computer on-site where you can check email for a nominal fee, I believe it was 1 E per hour.
The management and reception were very helpful and personable in offering directions and tips, actually they recommended a few nice spots and restaurants to me. They spoke perfect English as well as Italian. Overall the place was very cozy and lovely spot to rest after a long day of sighseeing. Very reasonably priced for the comfort, friendliness, and convenience that is offered. I stayed for 8 nights and was very happy.

Not the friendliest of greeting when we arrived a little late due to flight delays, only to check in to our two rooms booked. We were given rooms on the ground floor but opposite sides of building. First room was small with shower in room, no toilet, no kettle etc. Second room was even smaller and shower in room was not even worth the mention it was awful and again no toilet. We went back to reception and let the man know the rooms were not what we had booked. We booked the hotel going on the pictures we had seen which were lovely, our rooms were far from that. He gave us keys to look at another two rooms on 2nd floor. These rooms were not much better, yes had toilets but still awful and not what was shown in pictures of hotel. In one of these rooms the double bed was made up of 2 metal bunk beds pushed together. We were told we could have these rooms at an extra cost to us. We decided this hotel was not for us and quickly looked online and found another hotel minutes away and for the extra we were having to pay we moved hotels where we were welcomed, looked after and instantly upgraded due to myself having mobility issues. We have spent our 4 nights in luxury at this hotel with all amenities and the best of staff. Please book wisely what you see isn’t always what you get.

Positives of the hotel, yes it is close to the Vatican ( but so is our hotel of luxury)

I loved our stay at colors hotel! Great location, lively rooms and clean bathrooms, very friendly staff, great service. They have a kitchen, computer with internet access and a nice common balcony for lounging around and chatting with other hotel guests. When we checked in, they provided us with a city map and brochure that was really helpful when i went around the city.

My wife and I had an great time in Rome and we stayed at Colors for 10 days. The place was clean and its location is perfect (Via Boezio, near San Peter's). The staff and management were very nice as well. I definitely recommend someone to stay at Colors in Rome.

My boyfriend and I stayed in a double-room for three nights in July 2004. There was a watersink in the room, but no air-condition - so quite warm at nights. The shared bathroom is very clean - I saw the cleaning lady at least twice a day - and it always smelt and felt very clean there. The crowded common kitchen is ok for budget travellers. The highlight of the hostel is the roof-terrace/garden terrace where everyone had a glass of wine/beer at nights - talking and exchanged experiences. The location is good, a charming 10 minute walk at night past local winebars "enoteca", the amazing Castel Angelo, the angel-bridge, Vatican - and close to Piazza Navona.

We got in early to Rome as we came from Paris and we got a transfer to the hotel. When we arrived we got greeted by a rude woman who said the room won't be ready until 12:30pm so we went out and left our bags there. We came back at 12:30 and the room wasn't ready so we continued to wait. They were really pushy about wanting the money before anything! When the room was ready the woman then came out and started arguing about the check in time which was not on the email we got sent. She continued to argue for 5 or so minutes until we got into the room. The room was a triple room with an attached bathroom. The toilet was leaking water all over the floor, the shower was too small to stand in, and no fan. Beds were very hard like concrete. The wifi is terrible! Kept cutting out every few minutes to not connect for another 5. We went out one night and you have to be buzzed into the building, they didn't answer the buzz for 5-10 minutes standing out in the cold rain, and when we got in the new woman at the counter hounded us for what room we were in. Never in my life at a hotel have I been hounded as I walked in the door for what room we were in. Never again will I stay in this hotel with the worst customer service EVER!!

Response from ColorsHotel, Manager at Colors Hotel
Responded 5 Jul 2013
We are very sorry to hear that your experience with us hasn't been nice. First of all we should apologize about the lack of hospitality as this is very important for us and trust us, it's not usual. The check in time is at 2.00 pm, but usually we make our guests wait for a while if the room is to be ready in a few minutes, or we just tell them to leave the luggage and return back around the check in time (2.00 pm). It's strange if you were told differently, there must have been a misunderstanding. Also being pushy about the payment isn't the way we work. As for the problems encountered with the toilet we try to change the room when technical problems like that occur, as in a hotel unfortunately it happens that things get broken. The mattresses are brand new, that's why you found them hard. As for the wi fi, this is a service that we offer for free to all the guests and it actually works pretty well, but sometimes it occurs that many people use it at the same time and it slows down, but this could happen anywhere. The point is that overall we are terribly sorry to hear that the customer service wasn't as good for you. Our intention is to make make people feel home for the days they stay with us and having failed this time will certainly push us to understand what the problem was. We hope you will consider the cozy atmosphere of the hotel, the breakfast that we offer to everyone, the central position and the fact that we are sure, should you return your experience will be only pleasant. Best regards, Colors Hotel Staff

My wife and I stayed at Colors for a full week just this end of May and loved it. We had a double room with our own bathroom which worked well. They have a mixed bag of rooms to stay in including two or three dorm style rooms. They are expanding to another floor as well. A kitchen on each floor so you can prepare your own meals if you wish. Best of all the location was fabulous. blocks from the Vatican one way. An easy walk to Centro the other. Easy access to the Metro and major bus lines. A very quiet neighbourhood unlike right Downtown. All ages staying there and pretty quiet for the most part. For the price I'd absolutely recommend it. Only note is they don't have a sign on the hotel so keep you're eyes on the addresses when your looking for it.

I highly recommend Colors Hotel as the place to stay when you are in Rome. Away from the hustle and bustle of the Termini area, this hostel/hotel is well located and has excellent facilities.

Great location near the Vatican and also some nice local shops and restaurants which are not at all touristy. Definitely not a party hostel.

Everything is clean and nice. A minor down side would be the noise from the streets during the day however noise levels are manageable with the windows shut. A definite plus point is the air conditioning in the hostel rooms.

The staff have excellent knowledge and are extremely helpful.

Dear Tom, A taxi to Fiumicino Airport has a cost of 48 euros and 30,00 € to Ciampino. Also for Fiumicino there's a shuttle bus leaving from Via Crescenzio n 2 just 5 minutes walk the cost for the ticket is 6 euros.
