The Residenza Paolo VI, established on the premises of an Augustinian Monastery, was inaugurated at the beginning of the Holy Year 2000. The genius loci and the charm of tradition, still alive in its ancient walls, make this property your "private" haven in Rome, far away from chaos, in the pulsing heart of the Eternal City. Rome has many hotels, but only one of them is located directly on St. Peter's Square (Vatican): Residenza Paolo VI, the ideal place for those wishing to stay in the heart of Christendom, close to St. Peter's Basilica, the Vatican Grottoes, the Necropolis, St Peter's and Saint John Paul II's tombs, the Vatican Gardens and St. Angel's Castle. Walking along the Vatican Wall, it's easy to reach the Vatican Museums and visit the famous Sistine Chapel. Furthermore, some of our rooms offer special view of the Holy Office or of the internal courtyard of the ancient monastery or even of St. Peter's Dome. From our magnificent Terrace it is possible to admire up close St. Peter's Basilica and the Apostolic Palace, exactly where the Holy Father Pope Francis appears to bless the faithful and to recite the Sunday Angelus.

Stayed here for a week with our family.
Booked three deluxe double rooms which were exceptional spacious and comfortable.

The hotel is within Vatican City and overlooks St Peter’s Basilica with views of the papal apartments for the Sunday angelus from the hotel’s rooftop terrace.

Entrance is secured with key card and we felt safe at all times

As a base for a family pilgrimage to the Vatican for us the location was perfect and the hotel provided excellent comfort and a welcome escape from the mid day heat with perfect coolness from the air conditioned rooms and a fridge in rooms to chill water.

Staff were extremely friendly and welcoming.
The rooftop terrace is a hidden gem

This hotel is absolutely the best when visiting Rome and Vatican City. It is literally 30 steps across a narrow street and you are in Vatican City! You are also within a short walking distance to Trastevere, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, and the Pantheon. The hotel offers top notch service and clean and comfortable rooms. A hearty breakfast is included with your stay and the roof top patio and bar offers THE best view of St. Peter's Basilica and a perfect spot to end the day and begin your evening. This was our second stay at Residenza Paolo VI and Valentina and her staff were, as always, exceptional. Valentina made our visit wonderful by providing helpful info and arranging car transports from Rome FCO Airport and to Roma Termini. We highly recommend a stay here especially if your destination is Vatican City.

This hotel is exceptional. The location cannot be better for those who are in Rome to visit the Vatican. It is as described on their website - directly across the street from St. Peter's Square. One of the entrances to the square is directly across from the door to the building.

The hotel is on the 4th floor and up. We booked the Junior Suite with a view out the window of the square. We have waited a long time to come to Vatican City, and it was worth the extra cost.
Room was spacious as was the bathroom. Very clean and well appointed.
If you would like, each morning they will leave the gospel of the day at your door. That was very nice.

The breakfast on the top floor was good - buffet style with a lot of variety for those travelling from all around.
The terrace restaurant is good, although a bit expensive. However as you eat you look at the dome of St. Peter's - a once in a life time experience. I would recommend splurging for a night and enjoy the experience.

The staff at this hotel are outstanding. They are courteous and helpful and absolutely went above and beyond to provide assistance and make your stay enjoyable. Alessia was exceptional and deserves acknowledgement for her assistance, help with directions, and always being approachable. Thank you Alessia.

If you are going to Vatican City, this hotel is well worth staying at.

I had a confirmed reservation in this hotel between june 12th and june 15th 2020.
One week before arriving I got a message, that it isn't possible to charge my credit card and that I have to update my credit card in the next 24 hours - otherwise I would lose my reservation
I thought maybe the problem is my activated 3D Secure system on that card so I updated the reservation with an other card without 3D Secure. After 24 hours I got an email that my reservation has ben cancelled! So I tryed to renew my reservation but the system didn't show any availability of rooms anymore. When I made the reservation 4 days ago the hotel was completly empty.
So what happened? I called my bank about my credit cards and found out that the hotel never tried to charge either one of my credit cards!! So they were lying. I guess the got a reservation of a tour group and kicked me out because of the need of one more room. Never in my whole life I had an experience like this. I tryed to email the hotel three times but never got an answer!

I could consider this hotel one of a kind hotels i’ve ever seen. It is so close beside St. Peter’s basilica Vatican city; just cross the street…my room was too small and very basic as if you’re staying in a Monk room. There was no place to put my luggage and i hardly put it on the small corner tables. Don’t expect luxury as well as breakfast has no many varieties. I was fascinated by the location and pictures in the hall. Besides downstairs at the entrance you’ll find a souvenir shop with 2 floors and for me i totally recommend this shop which includes so many varieties if you are searching for a unique one with special pieces. The Terrace is really amazing so you can see the view of st. Peter’s basilica Dome with its beautiful lighting at night.

The location is fantastic being next door to The Vatican. We only ate at the hotel once as at €38 a bottle (middle range) the wine is extortionate and my lasagne was very, very small and rubbery. The staff are very nice and extremely helpful, special praise to the lady (Giulia I believe) who works in the restaurant at breakfast time. She’s incredibly attentive. The rooms are very basic but clean

We stayed here for 5 nights whilst we explored Rome. The hotel was recommended by family who stayed last year. The room
Was compact but very clean and was serviced every day. The staff were fantastic particularly Guilia who looked after us at breakfast each day. The terrace was lovely and we had drinks there a couple of nights. We tried to eat there twice but one evening it was closed for private function and then another night only available for drinks. It is worth checking notice on desk each day to see its availability as we hadn’t realised the notice was updated. Only thing missing was some tea or coffee facilities in room ( kettle and cups) would have been ideal as there was a small fridge. Th reception staff were very friendly and helpful and available to book trips.

A historic boutique hotel of about 35 rooms this is the perfect hotel to visit the Vatican. Housed in a former Monastery the rooms are simple, clean and well kept. We booked the triple room. Decorations are very simple with religious photos and paintings decorating the walls. The staff is professional, respectful, friendly, warm and welcoming. The views from the terrace are priceless. From the terrace we were able to hear and see Pope Francis at his Vatican window making Sunday address. You can have dinner on the terrace with the backdrop of the Vatican. This is a one of a kind property. This is not the proper accommodation for loud or demanding visitors. If you are looking for some quiet calm in the hustle and bustle of Rome then Residenza Paolo VI is the place for you.

I know you’ve read that it’s right across from Saint Peter’s Square, but it really is. There is just a small street between the front door and the columns of St Peter’s Square. The rooms vary greatly in size and upgrades. Ours was one of the smallest with a very old, tiny bathroom. We had a nice king sized bed with about 4 feet of space on each side. The bathroom was about 6 foot square. This room was about 200 Euros per night. So make sure you know which room you are getting. The staff was very nice. The included breakfast was good, but it would have been nice to have a little variety after a few days. The other highlight is the upstairs bar and balcony. It offers unprecedented views of St Peter’s Square. Please see my pictures.

Our family of 3 stayed here 3 nights recently. The location is across the street from the Vatican which made for fantastic nightly walks on St Peters square. The hotel is on the 3 and 4th floor so you may have 2 elevators to your room. Very nice outdoor bar area in the evening. This is on an old monastery so be aware everything is small compared to the US. Breakfast was an added bonus!

During our stay, the restaurant was closed completely, so unfortunately no idea. However, the surrounding area is full of lovely restaurants. We actually went by the Tripadvisor ratings and have a few wonderful meals at very OK prices.

I'd add the hop on hop off stops are pretty widely spaced around Rome so you'd probably expect a bit of a walk anywhere you stay. However, you'd be only 5 minutes from the Coliseum and the Hop on Hop off stop is right at the entrance to the Capitoline Hill.
