Just a short walk from the Vatican and the Sistine Chapel, Hotel dei Consoli opened in 2000 is a luxury hotel in rome, and offers guests excellent hospitality in an atmosphere of elegance and imperial splendor.Hotel dei Consoli is located in via Varrone, near the Vatican with its majestic piazza and church, in a sumptuous building fully refurbished in the Empire style. Detailed Reviews
We have just come back from a short break to Rome during covid and I just want to start by saying Rome is completely safe to travel to, we booked the Hotel Dei Consoli through Secret escapes and chose it due to its location and beautiful looking rooftop bar and garden with views of St Peter's Basilica. It did not disappoint. We contacted beforehand to ask a couple of questions about Covid19 and also my partner being a coeliac breakfast options for us. Apon arrival we found out that we were only 1 of 6 rooms booked! The family run hotel done everything for us to make us feel at home including going out especially to get my girlfriend gluten free options for the included breakfast which was a lovely touch. The rooms were in keeping with the classic style of the hotel with a beautiful red carpet leading up the marble staircase all the way to the top floor and the rooftop garden which was a bit of paradise in the middle of the city, at night the part view of the Vatican was memorizing. A truly perfect break and 5 star service. A pleasure to stay with and we wish them all the best in this difficult time within the travel industry. Thankyou!

I can’t imagine staying anywhere other than Hotel Dei Consoli. We booked this hotel based on the referral of an aunt who stayed there about 10 years ago. This was our first trip to Italy, and upon landing in Rome at 6am local time, Laura from the hotel had booked us an affordable, flat rate limo ride directly from the airport to hotel, where she allowed us to check in at 7am. After a warm greeting, Laura explained that the hotel had been in her family for multiple generations. It showed. The entire hotel experience felt like home and is in a perfect location in Rome, walkable to pretty much anywhere, and especially close to the Vatican. Every morning, Laura’s mom makes an incredible Italian breakfast on the roof of the hotel (featuring some of the best croissants and espresso/cappuccino). Waking up for this each morning was a highlight of the trip. Laura was also incredibly helpful with giving us advice and info on traveling around the city and country as a whole. We felt so comfortable and taken care of in every way. If you’re looking for a hotel that can serve as an ideal home base or even just one nighter, book here!!!

This hotel is a 4 star place without a restaurant. The rooms are comperetively small and the only service being provided is breakfast for € 15.00. Furthermore bear in mind a 4 star hotel generates € 6.00 city tax per person per day. If you stay in the B&B Hotel Roma Trastevere you will get the same service, but you pay less city tax.

Hello Mr Grossener we are so surprised and sorry to read your negative review bassed and focused on lack of restaurant and the cost of city tax. Regarding lack of restaurant, it is misleading for travellers and I consider essential to make a clarification. Besides the fact that it is not mandatory at all for a 4 star hotel to have a restaurant in italy, Hotel dei Consoli has a huge variety of restaurants around. Our customers can just walk out of the door in order to find out a fashion pub like La Zanzara, or a live music pub like Fonclea or roman Trattoria along with plenty of pizzeria and restaurants. Let me say that hotel restaurant usually do not provide tipical atmosphere of the city. however we respect your preference for them. With regards to city tax it is a law prescription and Hotel must charge it. With regards to your recommendation of a "B&B hotel" i must say that Hotelling and B&B are managed with speicific regulatory law; it is a counter sense (and illegal) to run a b&b and call it an hotel (and viceversa). Best wishes for your future travel experience Laura

First I am a travel agent. I have been to many hotels and locations over the years. This Hotel is one of the finest I have ever stayed in out side of the USA. I booked it 18 months out for our 45th wedding anniversary. This is a family run boutique Hotel. Laura was nothing short of amazing in helping us with the reservation and whatever else we needed. The rooms are impeccably clean as is the whole hotel. Fresh flowers adorn the hallways and they have flower in your room. The paintings in the hallways are as good as any in a museum We were greeted by a beautiful bottle of wine and a very nice card for our anniversary. They treat you as if you are a part of the family. One morning we had to leave early to make our trip to Pompei. Laura's mother who is the original owner told us to stop in the rooftop lounge early and she cooked eggs and bacon plus a cappuccino for us. You can't pay for this type of love and service. For this amazing family this Hotel is a Vocation. They truly live to serve. There is always a person at the front desk 24-7 so you always feel secure. They also arranged a private car for us to go to and from the airport. The bus and trolley link is a block away and the Vatican and St. Peter's and the Museum are a 5 minute walk. For us this will be our Place in Rome. Book quickly as this is a boutique hotel with 28 rooms. We had the Junior Suite. Looking forward to returning. To Laura and the family Ciao for now.

The owners of this hotel have very high standards. This was very obvious in how meticulously it is maintained. We were super pleased with our stay. We have stayed in many hotels around the world. Going offseason was a very affordable price. The breakfast was very nice on the rooftop (enclosed and heated during winter, it was chilly outside). The bed was comfortable, the bathroom super nice and clean, of course. The two ladies who own it (not sure if related) know what they are doing! I don't write many reviews, but had to mention this great hotel. And, btw, great location, close to many sights and easy shuttle to the airport few blocks away or metro for Termini. Also check out Zi Gaetana just a few steps away for happy hour or La Zanzara for dinner around the corner. Hope I spelled them correctly.

The Hotel Dei Consoli is a wonderful place to stay near the Vatican. The rooms are immaculate and well-appointed. The staff is especially helpful in making suggestions and reservations. This is a convenient location and quiet. Everyone is kind and treat you like you are part of the family. I am grateful that one of the owners put in extra effort and used her personal connections to arrange a last minute tour of the Galleria Borghese for me. This was not easy because advance reservations are normally required. I would like to stay there again. Joe Sheeran

The hotel is situated near the Vatican and although on the Main Street the entrance is down a side street.
Check in was good and we were told that we had to hand the key back to the desk whenever we left the hotel.
This was not a problem at first but became a bind after a couple of days. My wife unfortunately had an attack of Vertigo and could not leave the room for the first 24 hours.
After explaining this to Reception no offer of help was forthcoming, not even a cursory “how is your wife feeling?” nothing.
The room itself was basic and the weird smell of the carpets like a plastic smell took a bit of getting used to.
My wife and I work in the industry and the last thing we want to do is start to complain, we just got on with it.
We only had breakfast twice whilst we were there and if you like warm bread and orange juice from a machine then you’ll be in your element.
There was a big deal made about what croissant you would like for breakfast, not sure why weren’t even served warm.
Would I come back?
This hotel was recommended to us by a family member - I think there are better quality hotels about for the same price.

Superb family-run hotel
Laura enthusiastically accommodated our off-beat requests. Her mum’s special breakfast on the roof terrace was a pleasure each day
Good location for the Vatican, subway and local rather than tourist restaurants. Good internet.

My partner and I had such a lovely weekend stay at this Hotel, just after lockdown restrictions were lifted.
Everyone was really friendly and helpful, the room was really lovely and the food was amazing! The hotel itself is in a perfect location for sight seeing and you can visit the Vatican on foot within 10minutes or so from here. If you are planning a trip soon, check the places you’d like to visit online and book your tickets in advance. If you do go, you’ll have an amazing time!
We’ll definitely be back!!

Nowhere near 4*.Great location close to the Vatican but could use lot of renovations. We were put in very smelly room, we did not sleep all night, in the morning I phoned Expedia so they can contact the hotel and either to change the room or refund and I would go elsewhere. They phoned me back and said the receptionist agreed to change the room. The receptionist Robin was very rude, he lacks customer services skills, he said he did not agree to the change and if we wish we can upgrade to a suit and pay the difference. We contacted Expedia again and insisted that we need refund and wish to leave, Robin then came up with another room in all fairness was better but the shower does not work properly( At least there was no smell). The positive from this stay is the man in the café( Breakfast) he was very polite, and he will always ask you if you need anything else, the rest of the staff were also polite and courteous. Only Robin that seems to have issues with guests and does not understand that they are paying customers and he would not have a job if there were no guests.

Go online to the official site and order tickets.. they are very busy so order in advance from UK or you could be in queues for hours.. don't go through third parties and risk additional charges. It's very easy to order online and print confirmation.
Hello Maryanne, this is to confirm that official rate for regular cab from Fiumicino is fixed at 48 euros as disposed by Rome Municipality. You will find just outside the airport. Ask confirmation of flat tariff to Hotel without NO extra for luggages.
Id you desire there is a private limo service - provided by a partner - the cost up to 3 people is 60 euros; driver would be waiting for you outside luggage delivery and will wait for you in case od flight delay. In case please email directly to reception for prompt reply.
Hello!!! Please email us with specific day trip destination and we will provide you with an answear. For most common destination (e.g. Pompei) the Hotel has agreements with some agencies. regards, Laura
Hello Ray,
it depends on which airport you arrive..
From Ciampino you need to take a taxi or you can book with us a private car for transfer.
From Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci airport you have the option to take the train Leonardo Express (from airport to Termini station) and then the Metro Line A (direction Battistini, from Termini Station to Ottaviano, 6 stations, then walking distance)
An additional alternative is also the Shuttle Bus from fiumicino to Via Crescenzio, then wlaking distance..
Hope to you with us.. for more info please use my email account
Laura
PS: sorry but this system do not allow me to include links to websit of Leonardo Express, Metro company (Atac Roma) and shuttle service.
Hello Ray,
Superior is a larger room compared to Classic one.
Hope to have you as our guest...
Kind regards,
Laura
