Firstly, if you are staying here early 2020 know that Bartberini metro station is closed until the end of March for refurbishment so if you're coming by Metro you would be advised to get off at Spagna but avoid the Spanish Steps on the way to the hotel. It is about a 12min walk avoiding the Spanish steps but a little uphill.

Check in at the hotel was probably one of the best we have ever had and we have travelled around the world many times as we met Martina behind the desk. She was absolutely lovely, warm, welcoming, friendly and very helpful with advice. She actually made our trip she was so nice. As for the hotel, the location was great just a 10min walk from the Spanish Steps and right next door was Spagna metro station. The rooms were very clean but small but that wasn't a big issue as we only really needed it for sleeping in. The bed itself was not the most comfortable but was adequate but the biggest drawback for me was the bathroom, more to the point the shower. It was probably the smallest shower cubicle i have ever seen and just enough room to get in to and close the door. There was no shelf space to put anything and if you happened to drop anything on the floor you had to open the shower door to be able to bend down to pick it up, for a larger person i would say it would almost be impossible to use.

Breakfast was ok with plenty of stuff available but we went down around 8:30 when it was quiet and i can see during the summer months when the hotel is full it might be not so great. The food itself was OK but we only really wanted toast and coffee for breakfast although i tried the beans and the bacon but the beans were very tasteless so gave up on them on day 1 and the sausages look like franfurters rather than sausages. If you are looking for a Hampton or Hilton American type breakfast you are not going to get it as it is a continental type breakfast you will find in a lot of european countries so for us was adequate.

They also have a few rules they expect you to abide by which is no food in the room (why would you need to take food to the room anyway with so many amazing restaurants) and you can't use an iron, neither of which we had any kind of problem with.

Finally, would we stay there again? Well there were some positives like the location and the ok breakfast but the shower was a very big negative for me but the single reason we probably would stay there again is the check in with Martina. The first impression set the tone for our 3 nights there and my one comment to the hotel, whatever you are paying her, double it as she is worth it. A fantastic Italian greeting from a lovely friendly young lady.

Lovely hotel and the staff were excellent. However, renovation work was being carried out and the front of the hotel was covered with scaffolding and we were not able to open the room window, it was covered on the outside with corrugated plastic, there was a sigh on the window saying 'do not open' This made the room very warm during the night & aircon not operative. I do think that Hotels.com should have been aware of this and advised those who were making a booking. There was also an unpleasant smell of the drains, probably due to the work being carried out. Breakfast was hot and cold with good choices. The lady who oversaw the breakfasts was extremely attentive and was constantly replenishing and typing up, full marks to her. Reception staff were first class. Excellent restaurants a few steps away and all major sights were accessible on foot.

The hotel is in a perfect location for exploring Rome, with everything being within walking distance. There are lots of nice places to eat in the evening that are close by. I had a single room which was small, but it was cleaned to a really high standard, and the bathroom was very modern. The only reason that I didn't give it 5 stars was that the hot food at breakfast wasn't very hot, and there wasn't very much of it. However, maybe I just came at a bad time? Otherwise, a lovely, quirky hotel with really helpful staff.

We stayed in an economy room and we did get what we paid for as it was small but still very clean and comfortable. We initially couldn't work out how to turn the air conditioning on and had to call reception - it would have been helpful to have instructions in the room. The shower wasn't ideal as the overhead shower was too low for us and never got properly hot. There was also a handheld shower which was great in terms of temperature and water pressure but could have done with somewhere to hang it above our heads.

We had breakfast on one morning and decided not to repeat the experience. When we went to pay we got asked if we wanted basic or full - when we asked what the difference was we weren't given many details but we assumed some kind of cooked breakfast with full. To get the full breakfast we had to try and flag down one waiter who seemed to be keen to get out of the dining room as quickly as possible (he also seemed to be doing room service and possibly even cooking some of the food himself as every time someone asked for eggs he would disappear for several minutes). The hotel advertises a gluten free breakfast which was very disappointing. It is admittedly safe for coeliacs as everything was pre-packaged but it was mostly biscuits and rice cakes. I tried asking if the full breakfast (which I'd paid for) included gluten free options but couldn't get a proper answer as he rushed off so quickly so decided not to risk it. He rushed off to get the gluten free breakfast without even giving my husband a chance to order his food.
When my husband was eventually able to ask what was included in the full breakfast we again couldn't get a proper answer so my husband asked for eggs that he had seen others ordered. We still don't know if things like bacon or sausages would have been available if we asked!

We recently stayed here for 2 nights in a standard double room. Although small, the room was clean and just what we needed for 2 nights. There was air conditioning which was perfect for the summer weather. The hotel was in a very convenient location within close proximity and walking distance to several of the main attractions and with several restaurants and shops nearby. There was also a metro station just at the end of the street. The hotel itself was very clean and the staff were always friendly and polite. One negative was that the walls/door were paper thin. We could hear staff on the walkie-talkies in the morning and we could hear them cleaning other people’s rooms which woke us up. Overall, would highly recommend for a short stay in Rome.

The good: Great location, friendly staff - and that's about it.

The bad: slow elevator, small-sized rooms, old hotel with tired furnishings, hard mattress (ended up with hip pain), thin pillows, cardboard walls (one can hear everything going on in the hallway and the room above), small shower (a large person would have difficulty using it), small fridge to be used only for hotel beverages, no food is allowed in the room. Second entrance door leading to reception and inside of the hotel is hard to open (you need to use muscle to do so ).

Depending on the day of the week, the room price can vary between 45 and 90 euro per night. Therefore, if you are visiting Rome on a budget, this hotel might accommodate your needs. However, friends who have visited Roma have told us that there are better choices for the average price of 100 euro per night that we paid.

As we knew we were to stay for 4 nights, we have reserved a deluxe room, 2 levels over the basic room offered by the hotel. As we checked into the hotel, we found that the room was as large as promised, conveniently located on the first level with a window over the Veneto street. The location is just perfect allowing us to walk to many of the places we wanted to visit. The bathroom large and included everything we needed. The bed really really wide and convenient and the aircondition - perfect.
However, we soon found out that as the hotel is located in a very old building, the management did not really care about the maintenance, The shower leaks all over the bathroom, the toilet sink did not stop dripping 24/7 and the tiles in the bathroom peeling badly which made the general view of the bathroom shabby and gloomy
The team was friendly which made the whole experience nicer. Breakfast buffet was convenient offering a large selection but except for the bread which was very good, the rest of the products were mediocre if not less.

The hotel is in a very convenient location (bus and train literally steps away) and the staff are very nice and helpful. The breakfast was very hearty and a good way to start a busy day walking the city. We stayed in a suite that was quite sizable and very quiet for sleeping. The bed was very comfortable. The room coverings (wallpaper, curtains) are lovely but dated and discolored. The windows opened which was good for fresh air, but we could not keep them open for long due to mosquitoes. The tub/shower would benefit from a glass enclosure- the curtain blows in and sticks to your body while you are showering. There is a tv with one English-speaking station (BBC news). Overall a good experience and consistent with other reviews.

Stayed for one night in the Alexandra as part of a cruise package. WOW is all I can say. What a beautiful hotel in an excellent location, with metro and taxi rank just outside. The room was massive and very comfortable, and the overall stay was great. The breakfast for the ridiculously low price of €6.50 was outstanding.

The Hotel Alexandra staff were all friendly and helpful - Giada was especially kind in ensuring we had a room that worked for our needs. Each room is individually decorated, with some lovely touches - ours had a beautiful chandelier and a large amount of wardrobe space in addition to a sizeable bathroom. The location on pretty Via Veneto means many classic sights such as the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, and Pantheon are within walking distance and both the Metro and a taxi stand are just down the street. This is an especially safe area; it is active with many restaurants and cafes nearby without being particularly crowded or noisy.

I recommend that you make contact with the hotel directly. The staff speak English and I wouldn’t see any problem with this as we were allowed to leave our baggage in the hotel after we checked out before our flight. I can’t see this being a problem at all. The quick email to reception should tie it all up.

We caught the metro from Barberini metro, only 100 metres from the hotel to Termini station. Then catch train from Termini station to the airport. Very easy to navigate and probably the cheapest option
