Four stars for the Hotel Royal Continental, a hotel on the seafront promenade of Naples with a fascinating past, rebuilt in 1955 by Ferdinando Chiaromonte where once stood the Grand Hotel Royal des Etrangers . Today it is known as a structure of great prestige framed by the extraordinary beauty of the Bay of Naples. Large common areas , multiple meeting spaces , picturesque corners of relaxation, the Royal Continental sparkles elegantly with vintage charm thanks to the interiors designed by Gio Ponti , one of the greatest architects of the twentieth century. The furniture too was designed by him combined with designs by young architects of his choice . All 397 rooms, of which most have large windows and a balcony facing the breathtaking view of the Gulf, are spacious and very bright. On the Floor Museum Gio Ponti you can stay in one of the 24 rooms with wooden furnishings and fixtures designed specifically for the Hotel by Ponti. Suspended furniture, three-drawer chests with feet, and magazine racks and lamps in satin brass integrated into headboards from briar have made the history of Italian design. In stunning New York style, the Roof on the tenth floor, from which the beautiful view of the ancient Borgo Marinari and the legendary Castel dell'Ovo can be enjoyed, presents the one of a kind sea-water pool designed by Gio Ponti, published in 1954 on the cover of Domus. Guests are offered the solarium, outdoor bar, Fitness Center, massages booked in advance and two exclusive restaurants with spectacular panoramic views that stretch from the Vesuvius to the hill of Posillipo and the island of Capri. Breakfast served by the sea, in addition to the buffet which offers freshly baked pastries by Hotel Royal Continental, including oven fresh Neapolitan sfogliatelle, pastry horns. Location of reference for events and meetings, the Royal Continental is a well known Conference Center of primary importance in the national scene. Equipped with the most modern equipment and complimentary Wi-Fi, the Conference Center is characterized by its many meeting rooms with natural light and sea views. An exceptional location for large or small events thanks to its Auditorium setaing 530, its 16 Meeting rooms, 13 business suites and exhibition space, more than 200 sqm large. Pets up to 10 kg are allowed with an extra cost of 20 euros per stay. Located in one of the liveliest and most dynamic areas of Naples, the Royal Continental is the ideal location for living and exploring the city, within walking distance from shopping streets and the main local attractions, 10 minutes walk from Piazza Plebiscito and the Royal Palace. Furthermore, it is a 7 minutes drive to the harbour for ferry connections, 10 minutes to the Central Station and 20 to the International Airport. Not just a hotel but the real meeting point in the city, with its numerous events, food and wine tasting events, exhibitions, parties and aperitifs.

The hotel is situated in a good location with nice views and lots of restaurants nearby within walking distance.

The hotel had a lot of charges and lacked some facilities that you would expect from a four star hotel. For example, the rooms didn’t have an iron and you couldn’t request one from the hotel, instead you had to pay (and wait) for the laundry service which was a tad inconvenient. You also had to pay five euros per person per hour to use the rooftop pool. These costs quickly mount up. You were also limited to only booking two hours per day at the pool.

We booked hotel via Booking.com approx a year ago. We booked a non refundable rate.
Due to the covid pandemic we decided we did not want to travel and asked for a change of date or vouchers. Booking.com refused to help in any way just saying "non refundable". Spoke direct to Simona and then Gabriele in the hotel and long story short they arranged a full refund.
Thank You ladies, we will return but book direct next time.

We had one of the suites and what a view! Amazing to wake up in the morning and see this. We were disappointed about the breakfast: pastries were not very good and for eggs we had to pay another 7.50 per person. In other hotels this is inclusive. Also, the swimming pool that is a lot advertised require an additional fee of 5Euro per person per hour, which is not understandable for such hotel.

We stayed on 9th floor. On this floor the rooms are set back from the front of the hotel, meaning there's space for a huge balcony of about 7 x 5 metres. Each balcony has 2 tables, 2 sun loungers and 4 chairs. The room was spotless and very comfortable. Staff were all very pleasant, although some of the male staff could smile a bit more. We only ate a main meal here once and it was very good. There was a large selection of breakfast goodies and the coffee was reasonable. To be honest, the balcony and the view were so amazing, the rest of the hotel could have been a portacabin for all I cared. The road outside is for taxis only and was, very quiet. Thankfully, this little corner of Naples was much tidier than elsewhere in the city.

Stayed at this hotel for 14 nights , sept 25-October 9. Booked a superior ocean front balcony view room for 3people . , room was clean beautiful view but smaller in size that anticipated , the 3rd bed was a pullout sofa chair, beds where hard ,pillows awful , after one week of sleeping on a bed that was more like a cot we complained to the house keeping staff and At that time they put a topper on our mattress to make bed more comfortable. They should have done that from the beginning. Now let’s take about dinning , breakfast was fair not good , same thing every day under cooked runny scrambled eggs and bacon. Cereals and pastries . We ate dinner twice in hotel first time they took my sister steak dinner off the check because it was cooked poorly with no taste we ate there again because of bad weather the food was the same not good ,!, I was so surprised menu does not change same options daily , don’t eat here!, better restaurant in area and cheaper . The staff very friendly and helpful. This is not a 4 star hotel more like 3 star . So that sums it up.

Having stayed in three other hotels in Bari, Lecce, and Matera, we might have been spoiled. Don't misunderstand: this is a large hotel that is clean, spacious, had more amenities than the other three hotels, and is in a great location, especially if the room faces the Bay of Naples with some terrific views. Be sure to spend time on the promenade across the street which is closed to (most) vehicles. Many attractions, shops, restaurants, eateries, etc. are within close proximity.
Staff was pleasant and helpful. Breakfast spread was plentiful. Dinner for our tour group included some local specialties and was okay.
Although some parts of the hotel and lobby have been modernized, the hotel itself and rooms are "old." Our room had a partial view of the Bay, had a safe, small fridge, a tv that was difficult to operate, an annoying drip behind the wall of the toilet, soft mattresses with lumpy covers (not a problem unless you sleep on top of it), a very narrow tub with a glass partition that could make entrance and exit difficult unless you swing it wide open, a desk with no with writing utensils or paper, a lamp with a buzzing sound, no bathrobes and slippers like the other three hotels, and a floor that could have been swept or vacuumed better. On our second night we were given extra toiletries, but only one bath towel. Mind you, these are relatively minor things and I'm sure not every room would have the same issues. They might detract from the quality, but overall, I think this might be a good choice for a stay in Napoli.
The rating would have been higher if these "issues" weren't so many.

We stayed for 4 nights at this hotel. We booked it because of the location as we were staying over New Year's eve and thought we would have a good view of the fireworks show that is let off from the castle. We had a "sea view" room in what seemed like a newer tower (or maybe an adjacent hotel that was purchased and connected to the Royal Continental). The room was ok, odd in some ways (no lights except for overhead) and the balcony was very small (no room to put chairs on it and the railing was high so from inside you did not have a view). We were not happy as we had put do not disturb sign on the door of our room twice and the staff still knocked on our door and when we were away, entered our room (to deliver something). We were also not happy as on our second day at the hotel, a sound system was set up across the street with music blaring at very high levels from 4 pm to 11 pm each afternoon, it was music accompanying a special light show on the castle. While this was not a hotel-sponsored activity, I expect they knew that this would be happening and we would have appreciated them letting us know when we booked the room. It really put a damper on our ability to siesta in the afternoon and kept us up the one night we wanted to turn in early.
We also attended the New Year's Eve gala dinner the hotel held. It was an expensive event and we went into it with high expectations. While the food was good, it was not great. And we were sorely disappointed in the environment, with kids seated at the table next to us watching ipads during dinner (the website said that kids would be in a separate kids room) and odd music playing off and on.
Last, some of the staff at this hotel (at the front desk, at the breakfast buffet) had attitudes toward us. Almost like they were offended by our asking them for help (at the front desk we asked for change so we could tip a bellman and were told "no" and at the breakfast buffet when we asked for less cereal).
While the location is really nice, I do not think I would recommend this hotel. I think I would try one of the others along the water (there are several).

We know that receptionists play a very important role in welcoming guests.I guess we were just unlucky at that moment that we were attended by a NOT welcoming attitude of a receptionist. We arrived early and I had my smile,as always, and informed the receptionist that we have reserved a room for 4 days. The receptionist did not ask about our information but IMMEDIATELY said that "check in is 3pm and you can leave your bags in the storage room in the left corner". I was shock how he said it and he did not mind even telling us if we want that we can wait in the lobby, or have a coffee in the corner, or could have even offer us something for guests that travel so far, or would inform us, if there is something entertaining within the area while waiting.I would appreciate it if he said it in a nice way, but no. I just felt that he will properly entertain me I guess when it is 3pm already. Some receptionists were nice, espexially the lady receptionists.
But what impressed me is the Renhold. Very clean and the cleaning woman really maintained our room very perfect! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 Stars for Renhold department.Very well done!..and the breakfast waiters and waitresses were so nice and very attentive to guests, Excellent! During breakfast there's not much to choose, all the same food for 3 days, but breakfast arrangement was perfect! If you intend to buy wine outside the hotel its not allowed, the receptionist told us when we asked about wine opener. He said he should have not allowed us to bring a bottle of wine to bring it to the room.He allowed us only that night, but he will not allow us next time.It seems we were like a child being scolded. In swimming pool you have to reserve and you only have one hour to enjoy the pool. But anyways we enjoy Naples for those 4 days :) 9th floor

We stayed at the Hotel Royal Continental in Naples Italy for 2 nights while on a tour of Southern Italy. The room provided had wood floors, a nice sized bed with adequate storage space for clothing, etc. along with a wide screen TV. Another plus with this room was that it came with a balcony. An extra quilted blanket was provided. [Yay!} There was also a nice sized desk with adequate lighting. The bathroom, a little dated, was functional nonetheless and had a good shower with good water pressure. The tub, although it had a grab bar, needed a rubber mat to avoid slipping or falling while showering or bathing especially in an older population who usually graviate towards group tours. The mini bar is minimally stocked. There is a safe and coffee and tea service. One irritating thing about our stay here was the breakfast. The breakfast items were all behind large plastic barriers and when you asked for something, it was rationed. I asked for some soppressata and was given one piece. The fresh fruit was also rationed into small bowls, you could not help yourself. I understand the flu/pnuemonia/RSV/COVID issue but this was a little ridiculous. It was as if you were begging to get something additional to eat. My stay was fairly comfortable but the breakfast issue really put a sour taste on our entire stay

We stayed 4 nights and upon checking in were given a room with the wrong bed configuration, broken electrical socket, non existent wifi and a view of the rubbish area. The receptionist was abrupt when I asked to change rooms, told me they were “fully booked” (they weren’t, we had already checked) but would check with her colleague. She left me waiting 25 minutes, had not checked with her colleague when I asked her what was going on and after insisting, the manager was happy to switch us which I was grateful for. The receptionist was obviously uncomfortable because her lies had been caught out. The new room was slightly better however the tv didn’t work and WiFi still bad. Couldn’t be bothered explaining another shortfall to staff. The entire hotel has extremely poor WiFi where if your room code doesn’t work (it won’t) they give you a 24 hour voucher, then you need to request another. The air conditioning cuts out if you open the door. Beds are uncomfortable and the bath very narrow, however housekeeping do a great job. The location is outstanding, breakfast is ok but behind perspex screens so you can’t serve yourself. Coffee is lukewarm, but pastries and fruit are delicious. The pool is hot, extremely salty and €5 per person for one hour, but only if you book your time and wear the swimming cap they provide. Ridiculous and so not worth it. Stay somewhere else.
