We booked a 7 day stay in Sorrento, Italy in September with bookend stops in Florence and Rome.

I never dreamed that all of our hotel stays would be so equally spectacular but the Grand Hotel Ambasciatori stood on its own pedestal. The Grand turned out to be the absolute perfect blend of “Amalfi Coast” vibes .

Sorrento is conveniently located close to Naples, Positano, Capri and the Amalfi Coast. Sorrento boasts a fabulous array of wonderful sights shops and incredible restaurants within walking distance of this property.

This hotel has an elegantly appointed pristine lobby which took our breath away when we first checked in. Each time we returned from our excursions, we were in awe of its unique and impressive design.

Sorrento is so beautiful and we were so in love with each and every aspect of this leg of our journey thru Italy..

Check-in at the hotel was flawless. We were greeted by the front desk staff warmly and the gentleman swiftly processed all of our documents then escorted us up to our room personally. I booked an ocean front room and the views were unbelievably beautiful. The suite was everything I had dreamed of for this region of Italy. Brightly decorated and apparently newly renovated in chic colours with patterned tile throughout. The bed and linens were super comfy and the washroom had a warming towel rack which was a lovely touch. When we were getting settled into the room I called the front desk to get additional hangers brought to the room. I’m not exaggerating when I say that there was someone knocking at our door within two minutes of my request. This happened on a few other occasions as well if we ran out of bathroom supplies such as tissues or needed an ironing board and iron. I have never experienced service excellence like this at any other 5 star hotel or resort.

The breakfast buffet was one of the highlights of our stay. It was beautifully laid out in a white on white restaurant with everything you could ask for. The service was impeccable and the food was delicious! We also had a lovely lunch one day pool and waterside and the food and service was amazing. I would call it white glove service at its best. I literally felt like a princess all week.

The hotel has a beautiful pool area as well as a private beach club. We took advantage of both areas and loved each one.

There is live music in the lobby by the bar in the evenings. We found ourselves walking by one evening, heard a favourite song, then joined another couple who started dancing.

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking at a perfect stay in Sorrento. The Grand lives up to its name. It’s certainly GRAND. Thank you to everyone at this hotel for the memorable week! Would love to return one day! 10/10

This is by far the loveliest hotel I’ve ever had the pleasure to stay in.

The staff a friendly, attentive and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and when our airport transfer failed to appear on our last day the receptionist asked were OK, took total ownership of the problem and solved it quickly and efficiently for us even though it was nothing to do with the hotel.

Our garden view room was beautiful with everything we could ask for. Housekeeping staff were friendly and kept us clean and tidy including a turn down service. Good WiFi service and TV available in many languages if you need it. Well stocked mini bar. Safe and ample hanging and drawer space for everything you’ve packed.

The breakfast offers a very good selection of hot and cold items including freshly cooked eggs and omelettes. The regular coffee looks thick and strong but is in fact just right. Other styles of coffee are available though. Obviously as this is Italy there is cake as well as pastries. The view as you eat is just beautiful.

An excellent selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic hot and cold drinks is served in the bar, in the outdoor areas and down at the beach bar. Not cheap but accompanied by substantial snacks which makes a Coke there worth more than the one in the mini bar which costs the same. We had lunch at the hotel one day and that was very good.

We didn’t use the pool but several other guests made good use of it. We enjoyed taking the lift down to the beach deck level and watching the boats going in and out of the harbour and the fish swimming in the sea. If sea swimming is your thing this area is ideal. There are toilets down at that level too.

The hotel is a gentle flat 10 minute walk to the centre of Sorrento and the train and bus stations. Also an easy walk to the harbour if you want to take a boat to Capri, Amalfi etc. (There’s a public lift to bring you up again for a small fee.)

Our stay at this hotel was absolutely wonderful. The property is so beautiful, including the views from the lounge seats overlooking the sea, the pool, the terrace and the "beach"/ deck down on the water. The beach area was a huge plus and we spent a lot of time there - service was great and swimming in the bay was so nice. They even have an outside shower down on the deck to rinse off the salt water.
We had the deluxe sea view room and it was perfect - a nice size and great views. They did turndown service every night and always responded quickly to requests. Also, of the 3 hotels we stayed at in the Amalfi/Sorrento area, this is the only one whose air conditioning worked well enough to cool it to a reasonable sleeping temperature. The other hotels struggled to get below 23 degrees C, but our room was at 20 degrees each night as requested.
It is a nice quiet walk to town of about 13 minutes. I would definitely stay here again if we come back to Sorrento.

The fact that this hotel is a ten minute walk from the busy centre of Sorrento is one of its finer points. After a busy day exploring an area that is beyond busy with tourists (of which of course I was one also) it is just so calming to arrive back in the cool elegance of the GHA and immediately start to wind down and enjoy the peace and tranquillity this hotel offers.

Our room was immaculate and faced the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius, what a truly magical view. The housekeeping staff did a fantastic job of keeping the room spotless with fresh towels daily, also closing the window shutter and turning the bed turn whilst we were at dinner. A special thank you to them.

Did I mention dinner….? Just amazing, first class food served every night of our stay. Amazing starters, beautiful main courses and devine desserts. All served by the most calm, attentive and good mannered waiters I’ve ever known in a hotel. Although all of them were excellent, but there’s a special mention for Franco, who delivers his own style of first class service and made our evenings so enjoyable.

Breakfast was quite simply astonishing every morning. To sit in that glorious breakfast dining room just looking out over the bay whilst enjoying more amazing food; gorgeous pastries, fresh fruit, and also freshly cooked right in front of you omelettes and scrambled eggs - without doubt the finest breakfast I’ve had anywhere ever.

Whilst I cannot remember the names of everyone that made our stay special, from the front desk staff, the concierge, the Maitre’d I do remember Sabrina from front desk.; what a delight this young lady is, so kind and helpful and a true ambassador to the Ambasciatori she really is.

This hotel may sit towards the higher end of the price scales for hotels in Sorrento and in my opinion it is all the better for that; remember that like most things in life you get what you pay for.

If we ever go back to Sorrento again it will be to this beautiful hotel to make more special lifelong memories.

Unfortunately we didn't have the stay we hoped for at Grand Hotel Ambasciatori. The hotel building is defiantly five stars but the service is far from it. We stayed in this hotel during our wedding in Sorrento.
We organized our wedding ceremony to be located in the hotel and the wedding reception in a wedding venue close by. I was corresponding with Sebrina through emails which she came across as very rude and unprofessional. When it came to paying for the balance of our wedding, Sebrina emailed letting us know we have four days to pay or she will begin in the process of canceling our wedding ( This was a month before the wedding).

We organized a violin player through the hotel for our ceremony. When I contacted the violin player to confirm our song choices, he mixed up the location and never heard of our booking. When all was fixed, I sent him a playlist of songs we would like to hear. When my partner was standing at the top of the altar, the violin player pulled him aside and asked him what songs we would like to be played. He arrived 30 minutes late and had no clue what songs to play.

We had an open bar service after our ceremony. It was never mentioned that the drinks would be miniature size. The price certainly did not indicate this.

The hotel wouldn't serve any of our guests drinks before the wedding. Some of our guests arrived early to the ceremony and tried to order a drink. They were told they would have to wait until after the ceremony even though they offered to pay or go to the main bar. It was 25 degrees and outside.

For the morning of our wedding, we asked if there was somewhere for the bride & bridesmaids to get ready. I was told no there wasn't anywhere else in the hotel free. Our hotel room was facing the hotel next door, which had a gym right outside our window. Our wedding pictures have people working out in the background.

The day after our wedding my dad came to the hotel for a drink. We were sitting in the bar down by the water when a waitress came over and explained the reception desk rang down and asked him to leave as he wasn't a guest.

Unfortunately, there were many more small things that added up to make this a very disappointing stay.
I think the one thing that sums up everything was, that not one employee in the hotel wished us congratulations. The hotel was very quiet as it was October and yet no one even knew we were getting married there.

For your wedding to not even be acknowledged by the hotel you are getting married in was heartbreaking.

A magnificent seafront establishment perched on a cliff: sumptuous sunsets and views of the Bay of Naples. Very beautiful decoration of the lobby mixing antiques and ceramic or glass pieces. Very professional staff at all levels, friendliness, availability and efficiency (except the beach). Good buffet breakfast in a very nice room. Large and beautiful rooms with balconies allowing you to enjoy this incredible view of the sea. Very beautiful garden. Beautiful wooden seaside area with incredible access carved into the rock. The location allows you to get to the center of Sorrento in 10/12 minutes on foot.

We spent five nights here over Easter and recommend the hotel strongly. It had only just opened for the season when we arrived and was practically empty, but more guests had arrived by the time we left. We received a warm from the reception team who were helpful throughout our stay. We had a balcony room overlooking the sea and a room with a garden view; both were very comfortable although the bathrooms were small with limited storage space. The hotel is very well decorated with colourful tiles on the floor and has a great holiday atmosphere. It’s some 15 minutes walk from the centre of Sorento and restaurants, and we enjoyed the exercise. We’re also pleased we chose Sorento and not an Amalfi coast town as they were very crowded. One caveat: if, like us, you like cocktails which are not drowned with ice, you need to be firm with the barman who thinks everyone likes a glass full of ice. Breakfast was excellent, as were the waiters, but we chose to eat out for other meals except one dinner which was good, but expensive as one might expect from a hotel of this high quality.

I am on my own and travelled with a female friend. Our room was on a corner on floor 2. We had 3 balconies. The room was very spacious and had a small sitting room. The shower and toilet could be separated from the bath/sink area. Bed very comfy.

Reception staff lovely, particularly Max, who could solve anything.

The only slight downside was that, between 5 and 7.30, only the bar food was available. The toasted sandwiches would have been ideal, as we had usually had a good meal at lunchtime, but the cheese was really not to our taste. Parmesan would have been better.

Lovely stay though

Location: directly on the sea, about 1300 meters east of the city center. This makes it quiet if you have booked a room with a sea view. A large garden facing the terrace invites you to linger; the pool was already open. Small separate spa villa in the garden with a range of offers / beauty treatments.

Check-in: friendly, quick, with personal accompaniment to the room.

Lobby: spacious, cozy, several levels and two entrances to the large terrace, from which you have a fantastic view of the sea from the cliffs and can enjoy the sunset.

Room: 4th floor - the floors are counted from the standing level. The reception is on floor T or 5, our room is directly below. Great view from the small balcony, very good facilities - with finally enough space for a coat -, sofa with seating; 2 large TVs with international reception, coffee machine, enough sockets for charging.

2 minor disadvantages:

(1) with room 403 we were directly below the restaurant (marble floor) - so you can hear it until around 10 p.m. when there is a lot of activity up there and chairs are being moved. The same applies to 6:30 a.m. when the same restaurant is being prepared for breakfast. These are "noises" - it didn't bother me (we were still out in the evening anyway), but it might annoy some guests.

(2) the bathroom with its beautiful mosaics and floor tiles is spacious with 2 washbasins, but "trapped" - it has no window, and the shower and toilet/bidet are together in another small trapped room. If the toilet was occupied, you couldn't shower. There was no really functioning air circulation.

Service: excellent. Whether it was the service on the terrace, help with restaurant recommendations, etc.: the service was always attentive and friendly.

Criticism: The breakfast in the very nice restaurant is a bit meager - and always the same. On the 7th day you can clearly feel the boredom. Service is impeccable, but a little more variety - after all, from the 3rd day onwards there was a separate chef service for egg dishes - would have been desirable.

The hotel deserves 4.5 out of 5.0 points. There is not much that can be done about the bathroom in terms of construction; nor about the marble floor in the restaurant (which would be a shame).

We were very happy with our choice.

We stayed here for a week in April, for a fair price for the start of the season. We told them it was our anniversary and they very kindly left a note and bottle of prosecco. The room itself was very clean, and maintained very well by the housekeeping staff who were very pleasant and always serviced the room twice a day. The beds weren't overly comfortable to be honest, and weren't really the standard we expected for a five star hotel. We did ask about upgrades at the start of our stay, and were told it was €150 extra a night, only to see an Instagram account post about a free complimentary upgrade a day later. Disappointing honestly if it was given to an influencer, and didn't really make us feel valued as customers.

The staff in the rest of the hotel were lovely to interact with, although we weren't asked about our stay at checkout so I was a bit disappointed. The amenities in the hotel are good, the pools (both the beach and the normal pool) were lovely to be in when the sun shon, and the staff in those areas were great.

The breakfast was good, a selection of baked goods, cold cuts, fruits and cereals as well as your cooked items such as pancakes and waffles and eggs. There were also some fry up items too. The hotel restaurant was a tad too expensive for our tastes when compared to the towns prices, so we never ate there. The views are amazing from every point in the hotel, restaurant included.

It's in a good location, the walk into the main square is 10 minutes but we never had an issue with it.

Overall it's a very nice hotel and lives up to the 5 star standard, and we would stay here again for the right price, although our standard room had a window staring out at a wall so we would probably upgrade.

I am sure that it would get the sun in the evening. The perfect views are that of the sea and Vesuvius but you do not live in the room so if its a good rate I would go for it.
