We arrived late in the evening and our check in experience was very efficient which was a godsend after a very trying trip. It would have been nice to get a bit more local information other than what was on the key card folder though. We did have breakfast on one morning but given it was 15 Euros each we decided once was enough! We couldn't eat enough to warrant the money!

Our room was spotless and kept clean and well made each day. The bed was reasonably comfortable and the bathroom was clean and a reasonable size. We used the hotel as a base, as we had family collecting us each day from San Miguel so the location was perfect for us. There is a bus stop right outside the hotel as well which would be useful for those travelling further afield. Otherwise, it seems as though you'd need a car to get around to the travel spots - we were lucky to have a family taxi service!

The only other downside, which I think is common with Spanish hotels, is the lack of tea/coffee making facilities. Having said that, it made us practice our spanish each morning and I can now ask for two teas with cold milk quite proficiently!

We loved the rooftop terrace and spent a fair bit of time up there using the pool and bar. The drinks and food, we thought, were very well priced and the staff there were just lovely. There as one afternoon when we ordered drinks and I'd only had a sip of mine when a rogue gust of wind decided to upend my glass of champagne!! One of the girls saw it, came straight over, cleaned up and replaced the drink at no charge. It's rare that you'd see that kind of behaviour - generally staff will clean up, but to replace a drink that you've started at no cost was above and beyond.

In summary, a very pleasant stay and would recommend.

Spent a long weekend at the DNA, check in was swift, staff spoke English (and were able to understand my bad Spanish!)

Rooms tidy, clean, beds good.

Roof top bar & pool, very nice area, as hotel was quiet we often had the whole area to ourselves, drinks were decent priced, view across lakes lovely.

Breakfast was decent, limited choice if your after a full English, but lots of juices, ham, cheese and bakery style items (pan au chocolate etc )

Parking available out front for free, or paid for under hotel.

First off, the girls in the reception were great. Super helpful and made you feel welcome from arrival. The room was ok, but the suite had too many flaws. Some damage on walls, the bathtub was missing parts, and it just didnt feel that exclusive. The food at the hotel restaurant didn’t have any taste, and the menu was really sad to look at. We had a great time tho, but would not come back.

Where do I start. This hotel's main concern is making money because customer service is right at the bottom. First thing when we walk through the door is the lock literally falls off and is broken, the phone doesn't even work so we can't call for help and my mother had to make 5 trips to the receptionist to get someone to fix it. You would have thought they would change rooms and fix the door in their time well no.
Secondly how on earth does a hotel AC only go down to 22. It took the staff 3 days to manually override it which apparently can only be done by the manger that was never there.

The cleaners come into your room when they feel like even if you put do not disturb . I was in the bedroom in my underwear and we heard a knock and 3 seconds later here is the cleaner coming into our room while I'm still on the bed. Cleaners talk Infront of your rooms loudly at 9am like we ain't in holiday trying to sleep and rest.

They don't clean anything just change the bins and towels. They don't have any information about the restaurant time or roof bar.

Beautiful view but the food is awful in the restaurant and at the pool. Cocktails are not fresh unless they open a new bottle otherwise it is flat and not up to the standard of a 4 star as I was rudely told by the staff.

Once we complained we were then told the manger would get back to us but didn't after emailing I was told by the manger "In the end it turned" and "We do not make refunds partial or total, so you can take your complaint where it deems appropriate."

Responded 1 Jul 2024
Thank you for your comment Rio. First of all, let me tell you that we don't like blackmail, so if you send an email saying that you want compensation or if not, you leave a bad comment... no problem, we will answer your comment with great pleasure: The lock: you have complained several times that the lock is broken, exactly your complaint was "when I close the door from the inside, you can still open it" every time you complained, the technician came up and checked the lock and saw that it was working properly, until we could discover how you were checking it.... you closed the door and you opened it yourself with your card and you were surprised that you could open it, with your card, which is created so that you can open it only with your card and you were pissed off that you can open it... we understand that you are pissed off that anyone else can open it, but that the lock opens with your card, we still don't understand it. Air conditioning: we do not understand what the manager has to do with the air conditioning, but ok, we are sorry to inform you that our AC cannot go down to 15 degrees, it is a hotel AC, thinking for a pleasant stay, we do not want anyone to freeze in our room. The cleaning department never enters a room with a do not disturb sign posted. If at any time someone from the staff bothers you, you just have to notify the reception and any problem will be resolved immediately. Regarding restaurant hours information: on the cardboard of the room key you have the hours, on the room key you have a QR where you have the hours again, the restaurant and rooftop menu, spa information, and much more, in the elevator every time you go up and down you have the schedules, at the reception you have a sign with schedules, we don't know where else to put the schedules so that it is to your liking. We don't know exactly what cocktails you're referring to, but ours are made in front of the customer. Indeed, the manager has answered that we do not make refunds for a lock that works correctly or for not having air conditioning at 15 degrees. We hope that we have been able to resolve your doubts once again. Have a good summer.

Initially the hotel & rooms appear nice enough, the room decor is pleasant and the bed was big.
However, the facilities (including the pool and roof terrace) were not available freely for us to utilise as they had a wedding.
The spa is a bit of a scam, you have to pay extra to use this and bring your own swimming cap (who brings one of those on holiday? let alone the spa!), so of course we didn't have one and they gave us two (without informing us we will be charged 6 euros). The chlorine was far too intense + all of the ‘compulsory’ add-ons you had to purchase, the swimming cap was useless as my hair was drenched and reeked of chlorine.
There was no complementary water, tea coffee making facilities etc in the rooms.
I also mentioned at booking it was for a special occasion at it was my partners birthday and they responded that was taken into to account. We received a printed a4 paper with happy birthday on, which was underwhelming.
Lastly & most importantly we got about 2 hours of sleep overall as it was incredibly noisy through the night, you can hear everything going on in the rooms next door, people in the reception area, the bar outside loud music etc. The receptionist at checkout was wildly rude when we brought up our concerns, she told us what do we expect when having a room above reception, of course it’s going to be noisy? She sarcastically and patronisingly nodded her head up & down, strange facial expressions and laughing. She was defensive and slightly aggressive in her response. Wouldn’t waste your money, we paid £110 for one night of no sleep and poor facilities and rude staff.

Thank you Lois for taking the time to write such a long commentary. Thank you for your kind words about our hotel facilities and decor. We will try to respond to each point in your comment: At the time of booking we advised you that on some specific dates the hotel may have a private event and the rooftop area may be closed, as is your case, the area is normally only closed for 2-3 hours, the rest of the day you can use it and enjoy the area, however as we said before, you were warned in advance and you could always cancel without charge. Our SPA is not a scam, the spa is an extra service of the hotel, just like the restaurant, the hairdresser, massages or the dental clinic, if you go to the hotel hairdresser it has to be free because it is in the hotel? Access to the spa is 15€ per person and it is also stated on your booking confirmation. To enter the spa you need a cap and flip flops, for hygiene, it is not so that your hair is dry, it is so that your hair is not floating in the pool and other guests can see it, your hair is yours and it has to be on your head inside the cap, not in the pool :) About the coffee machine in the room or the kettle, it is also stated in the booking confirmation. The outside bar as you say, can't have loud music at night because the bar closes at 00:00, so at night there is no music as it is closed. We are sorry to hear that the facial expressions of our receptionist did not live up to your expectations. Thank you for choosing our hotel. Best regards from all the team at Hotel Dña Monse.

I have stayed in this hotel four times now, the last two times after lockdown.

The standards have certainly dropped and the staff have a 'don't care attitude'. This is no longer nice hotel to spend your holiday time at.

We travel this area extensively as we have relatives here and we will not be returning to this hotel.

La Finca opens again on 17 September and it is a far better expert to this hotel. The bar staff are rude and speak very little English and the Main Reception staff are about on par. This is supposed to be an international hotel.

If you are travelling from the UK give the DNA Monse a wide birth unless you want to be treated second class.

My choice, La Finca all the way. Great hotel with great staff, very friendly and nothing too much trouble.

Poor quality, cold food, surly staff, rude management.
We arrived on Sunday 4/12/22 early evening. The receptionist was surly, did not welcome us and didn't even smile. We felt unwelcome.
There was clearly a miscommunication with the car hire, resulting in the car not being booked for us. Again, the receptionist was off hand and not particularly helpful.
There was no offer of assistance with our luggage.
We went to our room (330), which was cold, didn't heat up with the heat on and smelt heavily of stale smoke. It was actually so offensive, we asked for a change of room on Monday morning.
I asked if I could have a kettle to make tea, and was told no.
The next problem was breakfast. All of the food was cold, the choice extremely limited and poor quality. I reported this to reception and was met with the answer "what would you like me to do?" Not good customer service at all.
When we returned to the hotel after a day out on Monday, and asked about the room change. We were handed a key to room 230. Again, there was no offer of any assistance, so we moved ourselves after a very long day out.
Breakfast on Tuesday was appalling and we had to have just toast. Then my husband tried to take a shower. He couldn't open the shower door because the window handle was in the way! On complaining to reception, he was told to push it, rather than pull. We tried this but the door would not open in and we were fearful of breaking it. We asked to speak to the manager as we felt the catalogue of complaints had become too much. We were told there were no senior team members at the hotel, just the receptionist due to the Bank Holiday. We were told that there would be a manager in around 9:30 on Wednesday.
This morning, Wednesday 7/12 - we had a minimal breakfast and as it was 8:30 we knew there was no point in asking to speak to a manager.
We paid over £210 a night for this - we flew home today. My advice is DO NOT BOOK. Avoid, avoid.
I've taken up my issues with the hotel, who have, in a nutshell said - we're not interested!

Thank you Diane for your extensive comment, we would like to clarify a few points in your comment: Thank you for the kind words about one of our receptionists, we are glad that you find part of the team helpful. We have considered your case about the car rental, even though our colleagues at reception had explained everything to you and you can see it in the conversation you had with the team, we will explained it to you again: our team told you that the car rental is from an external company to the hotel, they sent you all the prices so you could know the offer and gave you several options to choose from, unfortunately you did not confirm any of the options to us, so we could have confirmed with the rental company, if there is no confirmed rate, it is impossible to have a car at your arrival, once at the hotel you have chosen the rate but it was Sunday and it was impossible to contact the company, we offered you to contact them on Monday but you said that you wanted to do it on your own. We see that you have emphasized several times that your luggage was not brought to your room, as it was explained to you, our hotel does not offer luggage assistance service, we are very sorry for this as we see that this point was very important for you. We are also sorry to hear that the room was cold on your arrival, unfortunately in December this is quite common, but once inside the room you can turn on the heating and the room warms up in a few minutes, we also see that there was some smell that bothered you, but we see that you have been offered another room of the same category so that you can be at ease. Indeed Diane, our hotel does not offer a kettle in the rooms, so even if you ask for it again at the reception, they have not been able to give it to you because we do not have them, what we offer is room service, so if you fancy a hot tea, our waiters will be happy to bring it up to you. We have checked your room and the shower door and yes, the window knob does not allow you to open the door because the door opens on the opposite side (where there is no knob). We are very sorry if you have taken the clarifications that have been made by message as defensive allegations, we have answered you and explained in points because we will not give financial compensation that you have requested so that there are no doubts. I hope that once again we have been able to clarify your doubts. Thank you again and best regards.

Review.

The hotel was lovely, the reception staff are very welcoming and the pool is great. But there are several downsides to this hotel and we definitely won’t be staying again. We didn’t realise when booking due to the angle of the pictures, non of the rooms have balconies. We did ask at reception to pay for an upgrade but they stated no rooms have balconies. Gutted! The restaurant is a total rip off for €21 I got one piece of chicken with a dip of sauce on. I have put a picture on this review, no vegetables, rice or potatoes were served with it. I was in shock! The staff in the restaurant also hate the British. We were not greeted at the restaurant at all (and we speak Spanish) but when the Spanish enter restaurant they are very welcoming and nice. We would not stay again.

Good morning Olivia. Thank you for your opinion, it is a surprise for us your comment as the friendliness of the staff is what is most valued in the restaurant, so to read that our staff hates the English...we are very surprised and we disagree. As you can see from the photos of the rooms, we don't have a balcony, there are also photos of the outside where you can see that we do not have balconies, but to compensate for this we have a roof terrace with a swimming pool and beautiful views, which you can enjoy at any time. We look forward to seeing you again at our hotel. Best regards

My wife and I stayed in early May whilst we were waiting completion of our new holiday home and subsequently until we furnished it. The hotel is just off the AP7 if you don't mind paying the tolls, so an easy drive from Alicante Airport and Murcia. Five minutes to La Zenia Boulevard if you can stomach the toll.

We didn't eat in the Restaurant so cannot comment but our room was always made up and spotlessly clean.

There is a secure underground car park which was a godsend given the unusually high temperatures

First off all the hotel and especially the staff were all wonder full and I could not fault anything. I do have a couple of slight niggles though, no ironing facilities in the room and yes I was aware of this before we visited the problem with this is if you just need a T shirt ironing you have to send it down to be ironed even though you need the T shirt to wear right away. Also for a 4 star hotel you need coffee etc in the rooms, yes you can ring down and order one but its just the inconvenience of it all, we were on holiday to relax and needed items to hand not having to ring around for items that should really be in the room. These little niggles would not put me off staying here again though.
