Detailed Reviews
I absolutely loved my stay at the Hat Madrid. My friend and I stayed here for 4 nights and we absolutely loved it. For starters, we were coming from a hostel in Paris that fell well below our expectations. The Hat was such a welcomed upgrade to that experience. The rooms were a great size, the shower was large with great pressure, the bathroom was updated and clean, linens were provided and so was a blow dryer, the bed was comfortable and you can request turn over service as much or as little as you need during your stay. The hostel also has a modern, hip, young vibe, which we both really enjoyed. Another thing we really loved was the sense of community. The Hat puts on daily events that allow you to meet others staying at the hostel and at other surrounding hostels. We did the sangria workshop and the pub crawl and we had an amazing time and met some pretty great people. They also offer a free walking tour each morning after breakfast. The staff were so sweet and very accommodating. In fact, we arrived before the official checkin time of 3 pm but our room was all ready and we were able to settle in, shower, unpack, and decompress after a day of stressful traveling. The building is easily accessible with an entrance ramp (not stairs) and an elevator. Some added perks too was an optional buffet breakfast every morning for only €6, laundry units on the 4th floor (which really saved my life because I’m on the road for 2 weeks), and a fully stocked bar that you can order anything you want from throughout the day. And I cannot forget to mention the rooftop bar/restaurant, which has an amazing ambiance, food and drinks. It was also great because it felt like a lot of Madrid locals frequent the rooftop bar, so I was able to meet locals and not just travelers staying at the hostel. The Hat is also perfectly centrally located and Madrid is a very walkable city. The metro was also super easy to use and a station extremely close by when needing to access further parts of the city.
This would not be a fully transparent review without mentioning that the walls were a little thin and while the hostel certainly encourages people to be quiet in the halls (there are cute little “shhh” murals on each floor in the halls) young travelers do not listen to them so we could still hear conversations in the halls. Also if you have a room facing the street, because of the central location, it can be a bit loud with trash trucks, pedestrians and business loudly operating at all hours. However, none of these cons outweighed the amazing experience we had and the plethora of pros I mentioned above. That is why I’m still giving it 5 stars despite these minor caveats.
Overall, I’d stay here again on my next visit and would recommend anyone else to stay here too.

The Hat Hostel has a prime location in Madrid and the entrance area already looks very modern and stylish. Reminiscent of a nice cafe. The reception was very nice. The room small and with shower and toilet. But there were others outside the room. Nice other guests were also there, breakfast was incl. in buffet form on the roof terrace. In the evening the bar was open and the terrace full. Also suitable to work there outdoors (partly covered). Would stay there again. Great value for money.

Excellent service and accommodation!
The room was very clean and the staff was always attentive to everything we needed.
Without a doubt the best hostel!
Highly recommended!!
They allow suitcases to be stored before check-in and after check-out, which must be highlighted as a very positive point.

Clean, safe, friendly, centrally located. Cooled lobby with small bar, lounge chairs, free wifi. Easy to store luggage and they’ll call for a taxi. Near Sol train station. Both 4 and 6 female, en suite, bunk rooms are pleasant with storage lockers that accommodate thinner locks. Elevators between 7 floors. Free Sangria at night. Kitchen facilities. Small grocery store across the narrow street. Around 50 Euros per night. I’m over 45 and a bottom bunk was perfect for me. Caters to younger crowd.

The place does not reflect the images shown except for a single single room. The only two positive notes are: the location (the hostel is located in the center) and the really pleasant terrace complete with a bar. The cleanliness at first impression seems to be there but after a very brief inspection you notice old and dirty mattresses, old contact lenses, hair in the sheets, chupa chupa under the old beds, bathrooms without windows and shared bathrooms. Small, big, precaution, DO NOT DINE IN THE HOSTEL, the food is inedible and water filled in the bathroom tastes like chlorine. Staff not always friendly and threatening from the start.

We took 30 students to Madrid on a school trip and couldn’t have found a better place to stay. The staff could not do enough for us or the students from beginning to end. The rooms were comfortable, spacious and bright. Food was delicious and any allergies/preferences were checked daily. We felt so comfortable and it really put our kids at ease to have such a warm atmosphere to relax in. Us teachers were welcomed with free beers and friendly chats. Would go back to The Hat in an instant!

Excellent hostel. Very clean. As a solo traveler I felt very comfortable in the hostel and the staff are absolutely wonderful. There is a shared kitchen and fridge (no stove but a microwave) for groceries. Also a rooftop seating area that is very pretty. The rooms were clean and bunks were very comfortable. The front desk also loans out an outlet converter for no charge (just be sure to return it!). They also do free sangrias each night which is an excellent way to meet other travelers. I didn’t do the breakfast, looked mostly like bread, meat/cheese and yogurt, not very enticing for 6€ each morning. The surrounding area isn’t great at nighttime, no fault of the hostel just a heads up for night life travelers.

The Hat is the first ever hostel I’ve ever stayed at and it’s raised my expectations forever. The front desk staff are so sweet and helpful and the facility is very clean. The staff gave us amazing recommendations for bars. There are many activities and ways to meet people and the rooftop is beautiful!! The rooms were clean and the balconies were such a beautiful addition to our stay. The location of the Hat is probably the best part — we were literally around the corner from Plaza Mayor and therefore everything else in the area. The Hat is safe, fun, comfortable, clean, and has an amazing location. I would recommend to anyone visiting Madrid. ❤️

This hostel is in a good location close to public transport and popular attractions. They have a 24h reseption and key card assess so it is very safe. The room I was in was often a little dirty and quiet run down. Only the bottom bunks have curtains which is annoying. The lockers are not big enough for a suitcase and storage in the room is quite limited. The bathroom was fine both shower and toilet were in working order. The roof top terrace is ment to be very good however it was closed due to strong wind while I was there.

We had a great stay at The Hat, the location is perfect with many tourist attractions within walking distance. There are lots of cafes and eateries nearby and a shared kitchen if you want to eat your own food. The staff were helpful and upgraded our room which was a pleasant surprise. Would stay here again.
