Nestled near historical treasures, the Palacio de los Duques Gran Meliá receives acclaim for its prime location and elegance, with a serene atmosphere and luxurious amenities, such as the lauded Red Level service and rooftop pool. However, some visitors feel the hotel's value is diminished by high costs for extras and room rates that don't always meet expectations. Cleanliness is a strong suit, boasting immaculate rooms and responsive service.
While the hotel's rooms are comfortable and well-equipped, noise and occasional obstructed views are drawbacks noted by guests. Service is generally top-notch, but experiences with room and restaurant service can vary.

I really love this hotel. It is beautifully done in a quirky, but regal style. Located in an old magnificent Palazzo, the hotel is close to the palace, the park, and within walking distance, everything you could do during a long weekend in Madrid! The hotel has a beautiful courtyard that is appointed with a small restaurant and it’s great to sit in the afternoon and have a cocktail.
I I recommend this luxury hotel that is perfectly located and has all the amenities. A luxury hotel should have.
The staff is helpful and courteous, and always looking out for you.
The rooms are well appointed and beautifully designed, not to mention, extremely comfortable.

We have just returned from a memorable weekend stay at this superb hotel. We had access to the Red Level lounge which was really great, with nibbles and drinks available all day. The location is excellent with many of the important landmarks within walking distance. We were with our baby daughter so we requested a crib in our room which was ready and waiting for us when we checked in, they even left a little towel and baby bathing kit which was a very nice touch! The rooms were extremely quiet, we couldn’t hear anything from outside which meant we slept very well. Breakfast is very good with a good selection of dishes cooked to order, whatever you want really from usual breakfast fair, they will cook it! Lastly, the staff were all very engaged, friendly and helpful. There is a roof terrace which we could access but it was too cold to use it in February. I would definitely recommend and I hope to come back!

My wife and I stayed here for 5 days and our experience was amazing. From the moment we checked we felt like everything was taken care of. The room was great and had a beautiful bathroom with a full tub and shower. The location was perfect, central to everything and walking distance to a few metro stations. The rooftop pool was so nice, especially when the temperature got up to 100. The pool area is a little small, and finding chairs that are in the shade of umbrellas can be tricky, but those are minor issues. Anything we needed from room service or housekeeping was delivered within 15 minutes. We had a rental car which we left with their valet service, and whenever we needed the car we had it in 10 minutes. Breakfast was a little expensive (35 Euro/person) and honestly not worth the price. There are a couple of cafes within a 5 minute walk (and a Starbucks, of course) that are better for breakfast. One of the porters (Hector) gave some excellent restaurant recommendations (to include one restaurant in Toledo) and they were all spot on. We truly enjoyed our trip and if we ever find ourselves in Madrid again, we know where to stay.

Stayed for a week while visiting Madrid, used to live in the city so not my first time there, but it was my first time at the hotel, usually stay at the Meliá Fénix but wanted to try something new. Very glad I did. Service was superb, location is very centric and short walk to many of the major tourist attractions, few steps from the Teatro Real and Royal Palace, but on a quiet street with many restaurants attended by locals, not usual tourist traps. Had a Red Level Room so could snack at lunch and dinner on the lounge, I essentially ate there since the small plates were so good. The room was very comfortable and while Madrid was experiencing a heatwave with temperatures close to 100F (38°), the room stayed at a nice 22° or below. Room was huge, and the walk in closet had a lot of space. The terrace on the roof was perfect for views of Madrid, had a plunge pool and jacuzzi that I never used but looked very inviting, there was also a lifeguard always present which impressed me. One thing my room did not have were views, If you are looking for sweeping views of Madrid this is not the best hotel for that, it’s in the “old Madrid” where buildings are not very tall, but have to say never missed them, just had to go to the terrace and have a sweeping view of Madrid and the Sierra, with good binoculars you may be able to see El Escorial and Valley of the Fallen in the distance. Breakfast was superb, there was buffet but you could also order a la carte. Excellent eggs Benedict, and never go wrong with a mimosa to start the day. The bathroom was also good, if a little cramped. Something to consider is that the shower is separated from room by a wall of glass, with a curtain on bedroom side for privacy. I was by myself so not an issue, but if families something to consider. The bathtub inside the shower was huge and made taking a bath very easy, rain shower also very nice. Regarding parking, I arrived driving from Bilbao, Madrid traffic has not changed, avoid if you can. As I said hotel is in the old Madrid so road to hotel is also small but it’s part of the fun of traveling. The parking does not belong to Hotel, it’s right down the street few steps away and open 24h, can’t recall how much was for 24h but I decided to return car earlier since public transport is excellent all throughout Spain but specially in Madrid. Took a taxi to the airport that hotel arranged and went very smoothly, right on time. Metro stations are few steps away also, either downhill in Opera, or few steps uphill in Santo Domingo station. I will definitely recommend and plan to return when I’m back in Madrid.

Wonderful find by my other half, a quiet hotel but full of charm and elegance.
Located within easy walking distance of The Opera it exudes a quiet confidence, so much so that even our Classic room was superbly appointed. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom spacious and the TV had access to ITV so I could watch the Rugby World Cup 😃
The rooftop bar and pool terrace offered great views over Madrid, with a sight of the Royal Palace.
The staff were attentive, but not OTT and the doormen always had a friendly greeting upon arrival or departure.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Madrid for business or pleasure.... if only I could claim credit for the find 😂

This hotel is pretty but not quite certain what it wants to be. During check-in, the front desk person immediately tried to sell us an upgrade. My take is if the hotel is not full and you want me like the hotel and recommend it, give me a complementary upgrade. I found this to be a cheap technique. Parts of the hotel look elegant, but the rooms are full of metal cabinets and cheap table and chairs. The room was very small, and the bathroom was exceedingly tiny. In fact, our room here was smaller and more expensive than our hotel in Barcelona, and the one in Barcelona was a luxury hotel. The shower space between the tub and wall was so small it was dangerous. There was no storage in the bathroom beyond a tiny shelf. I took the hair dryer and spare towel out of the only drawer to give us some extra space. There were two good size closets and plenty of drawers. We were told that we could drink the water from the bathroom, but it was well chlorinated. We were never told that we would be given bottled water in the evening so we bought our own at a local store. I believe that we were given the wrong room. I paid for a premium room and based on the pictures online, I was given a classic room. Room service brought a special snack meant for a business group to our room. I called downstairs but they had us keep the treat as they couldn't give it to anyone else. When my husband looked at our room account online, it showed that our room was unoccupied. After I spoke with the front desk about all of these issues, they had a complementary bottle of champagne brought to our room. The head bellman, Hector, was very accommodating. Most of the staff were very polite and tried to make our visit comfortable. Still, this did not make up for all of the issues or the small room. We had a drink at the outdoor lounge and restaurant, The Terrace. We got our drinks but when a group of around twenty came for dinner, our server never reappeared to see how we were doing. They obviously could not handle such a large group. Additionally, The Terrace is open to the street so anyone can just walk in. Although this hotel is centrally located to the palace and the Gran Via, we would never stay here again.

The Palacio de los Duques is a wonderful full service boutique hotel. The location is within walking distance of the museums and historical areas, about 30 minutes stroll through either the main thoroughfare or the older parts of town. The interior hallways, rooms, and dining areas of the hotel are decorated with oversized Valazquez prints, balancing the very modern sleek architecture with the Old Masters. It is elegant and original, not a cookie-cutter corporate hotel. My room was well-appointed, with a comfortable desk and chairs for work, internet, and 24 hour room service that allowed me to videoconference back to the states when not touring the Prado. The staff and service were excellent!

The Palacio de los Duques Gran Meliá hotel is a historical renovated old building hotel offering excellent services. Accessibility of the hotel is high. It is sited at a convenient location, which is close to the main shopping/restaurants area and the main railway station.
We reserved a junior suite with a terrace hoping to enjoy the winter sunny days. Unfortunately, that was not what we got. in spite of the hefty prices, the room is not that large as it is stipulated in hotel website. Besides, the terrace is bounded by walls and the city view is blocked with an unattractive building. Sun does not shine on the terrace which makes the room dark and cold in winter. Air conditioning system was not working properly but we managed. In comparison with other rooms and based on our old experience, we thought red level deluxe room is not only much cheaper but it is a better alternative to the junior suite-terrace. We hope the Hotel management provide better information particularly rooms location, area and the window's view.
we attended the Christmas Event which was well managed and the food was wonderful. Several courses of delicious food that we really enjoyed. Breakfast was good but we thought it was missing some other asian food like veggie noddles/rice etc.
The most important assets of the hotel are; its location, the service there and the hotel staff who always were responsive, attentive and helpful, many thanks to all of them and thanks for the farewell champain bottle! Big thanks to the chef and his team for providing a wonderful X'mas Eve dinner, their service was beyond exceptional.
Madrid is worth visiting in X'mas time too. We will return to the hotel whenever we visit Madrid!

We stayed over the week end in this really nice property just a few minutes away from Royal Palace and Gran Via. Historical building with pool on the roof and bar. Amazing rooms, we were staying in red level room: modern, ultra comfortable and well appointed. With red level you have access to private lounge with food and champagne, we highly recommend it is worth it. Great service, staff polite, making you at ease and providing helpful hints. Highly recommend this place. As LHW member you get welcoming macarons.

What can I say. This is simply an absolutely wonderful hotel. Our initial greeting from Jorge was so warm and welcoming, and then a perfect check in with Roberto really set the scene for a fantastic stay here. Our room was spacious with an extremely comfortable bed and pillows, the bathroom had a large freestanding slipper bath and the best shower I’ve ever used.
This hotel exceeds all customer service expectations. Our greeting at breakfast the first day was the best ever, the charming pretty dark haired lady who greeted us for breakfast on our first day was again so welcoming and friendly it really started our day perfectly. Breakfast is excellent with a large buffet spread of everything you could ever want and there is also a menu you can choose to have freshly cooked choices.
On a warm sunny day sitting in their oasis of a pretty courtyard at the back of the hotel having a cold beer was bliss. Thank you Jordan for your attention and friendly service.
The location of the hotel is excellent, just in from of the Royal Palace and a short walk from the Plaza Mayor.
I can honestly say we were sad to leave this hotel and it’s team, they really go out of their way to make you welcome and it is completely faultless.
Huge thanks to Jorge, Roberto, Jordan and the breakfast lady, you are all special people. We will be back!
