Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.

The Catalonia Ramblas hotel is celebrated for its chic atmosphere and prime location near Las Ramblas and Place de Catalunya, according to guests. While many guests commend the hotel's cleanliness and the inviting outdoor pool area, some have reported dissatisfaction with additional costs, such as for pool access, and questioned the value for the price. The comfort of the rooms is often praised, though issues with air conditioning and readiness at check-in are noted. Service quality appears to be inconsistent, with some staff members receiving accolades for their helpfulness and others criticized for a lack of responsiveness.

The hotel has a great location a short walk from Palaca Catalyna & Las Ramblas. The staff were all very lovely & helpful, they even went the extra mile in helping us with our bags (my husband has a broken rib) and pointing out the nearest pharmacy. We loved the breakfast which had a great selection of high quality items including great coffee & fresh orange juice. The bed was very comfortable & the room was a good size.

However we did have a few issues:
1. I specifically requested a quiet room which was acknowledged by the hotel. We ended up with room 121 which I would avoid at all costs. The room is accessed via a long corridor to get around the lift shaft & stairwell. It is not a quiet room as you can hear the lift motors & stair doors slamming late at night & early in the morning. We are country dwellers so always request quiet hotel rooms when visiting a city, it’s a shame this wasn’t accommodated.
2. The WiFi was dreadfully slow which was a slight issue, if you were on business it would be a major issue.
3. The pool - we didn’t use it as it was rammed with about 10 children splashing around each time we tried to use it. Maybe specific childrens time for swimming might be better? This is common place in other 4* hotels we’ve visited.

This hotel is amazing, great location 100m from Ramblas and Placa De Catalonia, 5 minutes from most Free walking tour starting point and Hop on hop off bus, if you like shopping all the good stores are right around the corner. Room was very clean and beds were comfortable. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Ask for a room facing the pool/inside court so not to hear the street noise.
We were in the winter so the outside pool was out of the limits but they have a great small heated pool in the SPA with jets that were great for relaxing at the end of the day. Highly recommended.

The hotel's location is very salubrious and convenient to all the attractions, La Ramblas, El Corté Englés, and Plaça de Catalunya. The entry to the metro is direct across the street. I booked a single room using the hotel's site and deferred payment to the arrival day. I got on the Aerobus (6.75 Euro one way) from the airport, got off at the 3rd stop (Universitat), and walked a short distance to the hotel. Upon arrival, the affable front-desk agent named Juseus checked me in, processed my payment, provided me with relevant information, and even accompanied me to the elevator. The spacious room had plenty of closet space, complimentary tea and coffee service, and space to sprawl.
The layout bifurcates into a living quarter and the vanity area with a sliding door—great selections of toiletries (toothbrush and toothpaste included). The breakfast consists of chef service, hot dishes, cold cuts, decent fruit selections, cereals, nuts, pastries, a fresh juice-making machine, a variety of juice bottles, mineral water, and plenty of hot beverages. The obliging dining room staff continuously remove used dishes and help guests with their needs. I highly recommend this hotel and will book again if I return to Barcelona.

At first glance this looks like a 4 star hotel. It smells great when you walk through the door. The rooms are a good size. There isn't much space to put any of your things or bathroom items though. Definitely....skip the pool! It's like "people soup". Nobody showers when entering, even though there are 2 provided. There were 22+ people in the pool which should probably only have maximum of 15. There were babies in there with those "swim diapers" on that don't keep anything from escaping. They shouldn't be allowed for health & sanitation reasons period. Several little kids that were never made to use the washroom. The ladies with long hair don't tie back their hair. There were 4 young men, maybe 25-30 years old that had their drinks in the pool and for 90 minutes, they consumed at least 3 beer each and didn't once leave the pool to use the bathroom. There is no way they could hold their pee that long while drinking beer sitting in a warm pool of water. Lounging chairs were "saved/reserved" by guests while they sunned themselves on other chairs essentially hoarding 2 chairs each, leaving us with nowhere to sit. The 2 servers were extremely slow and only seemed to cater to the people who had sat there all day drinking and spending lots of money. No pool attendant on duty. The pool rules are almost completely faded, not that anyone followed them. There needs to be someone monitoring this area and some health restrictions enforced. We spent $780 Euros for 3 nights and couldn't bring ourselves to use the pool. There is a telephone in the "water closet" or "toilet room" that is in the wrong spot. Every time you stood up to pull up your drawers, your elbow knocks the receiver off and it falls into the toilet before flushing! Ewww! How many others have done that? The shower stall isn't sealed well enough at the door, so it floods the bathroom floor, no matter how careful we tried to be. You have to use all of your towels to "mop" up the water so you don't slip. The lady that runs the "breakfast", could loosen up a bit and smile a little. She is so concerned with checking your name off the list to make sure you are allowed to be in there, that it makes you uncomfortable. Check-in time is 3:00 pm and not a minute before. We had to sit around for 5 hours waiting to check in. They did however offer to hold our luggage for us while we waited around for housekeeping to finish the job. Not a 3 or 4 star hotel, but barely a 2!

Very dissapointed with the hotel spa!
We had booked a couple massage but when we arrived, we found out that someone else had lied about his identity and had taken our spot...
Granted, it wasn't the Spa's fault.
However, the young masseuse at the desk just laughed at the situation and told us to book another day!!!
We had to insist for her to go to the massage room where her colleague, Eleonora, had started working on the "trespassor".
Eleonora, much more professional, solved the problem, sent the "trespassor" home, and we finally qot our 1 hour massages, in a reduced version as they were closing...
The 2 massages were not great, the towels had an unpleasant smell, and the music was too loud. Not a relaxing atmosphere to say the least!
I would advise them to use essential oils on their towels, and to choose relaxing, soft New Age music instead of Spanish songs.
The following day we found a lovely spa, the Born Studio on carrer de Roger de Lluria, near la Pedrera, which does amazing massages, as well as manicure and waxing. A true affordable gem!
The Alegria Spa does have a small inside pool or rather a big jaccuzzi, and a steam room that you can use before or after your massage, but it does feel crowded and cavernous.
We won't be back

I can’t recommend this hotel highly enough. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we had a superb stay. The staff throughout the hotel were extremely friendly and courteous, they assisted us in making restaurant reservations and really looked after us at the hotel bar which is a lovely place to relax and have a drink. Not expensive either.
Our room was huge, as was the bathroom, and it had a delightful balcony that looked down to a pedestrian street and we had no street noise at all.
We didn’t have breakfast there because there as so many little cafes just around the corner.
The outside pool was too chilly for us to use in February but in warmer months it would be lovely. The spa is a nice edition too.
The location of this hotel couldn’t be better, with the la Rambla and Place de Catalunya 2 minutes away. Port Vell and the beach are easily accessible by foot if you don’t mind a good stroll.
Thank you for a fabulous and memorable trip!

Looks like a great place when you walk in. Arnau and Steven at the front desk were super helpful. Room was large and spacious. The breakfast buffet was extensive and generous, omelets made to order by Teresa, Thank You! Downhill from there.

Pool was small and crowded. Don't be fooled by the pictures on their site. People jumping in despite no diving signs. It's only about 4 feet deep! Ate a late lunch at the terrace by the pool. Took forever to get a sandwich and a pizza. Pool deck gets super hot, be sure to bring your flip flops. Not enough umbrellas and in the hot Barcelona sun you can't lay around too long with out an umbrella.

One of the bartenders was rude to my wife twice. When my wife asked for a glass of ice along with her wine the bartender asked her why she wanted it!

Chambermaids didn't come to straighten the room everyday, and some days showed up late afternoon. One day we spoke with them as we were going out at about 11 AM. They saw us leaving! We got back at 2 PM, the room hadn't been touched. Repeatedly had to ask for extra towels.

The thermostat in the room was state of the art 1980. Very difficult to set and it didn't hold the temperature. As a result the room was always too cold or too hot. And uneven. One side too cold, the other too hot based on the airflow if you turned up the fan speed.

There was no hair dryer in the room. My wife asked for one and they wanted a $50 deposit and she had to return it when finished, every time. When she questioned this, she was told only some rooms come with hair dryer. Over 200 euro a night, put in a hair dryer. Give me a break!

Finally, the lobby is like a frat house. Young people lying all over the couches, some sleeping there, repacking their luggage in the lobby. I really don't need to see your dirty laundry young lady! Staff didn't say anything to them.

We have stayed at other Catalonia's and been pleased. This one fell way below the bar.

The first room they gave us was terrible, dark and dingy. When we went to the front desk the receptionists were reluctant to help us. The Manager sits in a small office beside the check in desk where she can hear everyone and everything that is going on. Instead of coming out of her office, the receptionists have to keep scurrying to her office to ask questions and be given instructions. They were unable to make any decisions without checking with their Manager. It actually seemed that a few of the check in receptionist were nervous about dealing with the Manager. Definitely not a healthy working environment.
They finally gave us another room, after arguing that the first room was unacceptable. The second room was much better but it was a very upsetting situation.
In general, the staff were very pleasant. They seemed to be very over worked. This hotel needs to hire more staff.
Never order a pizza from the menu. It was terrible!! The crust was frozen. A 4 star hotel should not be using frozen crusts to make their pizzas.
The pool was nice. Lots of chairs, towels and shade. It was clean. The pool was surrounded with lovely bushes and flowers.
The location was great.

The hotel is in a perfect location for almost all the major sights , we walked to most of them on our week long stay in this hotel.
We booked a room with a pool and outside space and felt it was well worth the extra money.
The room had a very comfortable bed and was a nice size.
We had tea making facilities and a safety deposit box and the bathroom and the shower room was very luxurious.
Our room was cleaned to a high standard daily with clean sheets and towels.
Excellent choice of hot and cold options at breakfast.
Front of house staff were always very helpful and friendly.
We had a perfect stay and would definitely book this hotel again if staying in Barcelona.
Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable.

I stayed here on my business trip, and the hotel was assigned by my company. I didn't expect much, and this hotel proved me wrong!

They say 4 stars, but I rarely see 4-star hotel of this superb quality.
Rooms are clean, with modern interior and all necessary perks and amenities. You can clearly see, that the hotel is caring about the brand and the renome: everything looks perfect. Even I, being the grumpiest hotel guest, couldn't find anything I didn't like.
Room: recently updated interior (much better than the photos from their website!), perfectly clean, has all amenities, turndown service. Even slippers are super comfortable!
Personnel: super friendly, from the reservation office to the front desk to the housekeeping.
Breakfast: rich choice and decent price.
Location: can't be better: you can walk to El Born or L'Eixample, you can shop next door, you can buy your lunch, dinner, water, design clothes and everything around.

Verdict: to be considered for my private trips to Barcelona. Top hotel!
