This fantastic hotel, formerly Catalonia Eixample 1864, is located in the city's historic centre, next to Plaza Cataluña. Situated in one of the first buildings in the enlargement ("Eixample") of the city of Barcelona. It was designated a Historical Monument thanks to its interesting eclectic classical style. It is the only building that conserves the wealth of paintings and decorations on the original front, which have been fully restored. On the Modernist Route, it is located very close to Paseo de Gracia and the busiest commercial area of Barcelona.
Star ratings are intended to indicate the general level of features, amenities, and services to expect. This property is classified according to Giata.

Nestled in a prime location, the Catalonia Eixample 1864 hotel is a stone's throw from major attractions, a feature that guests have consistently lauded. The tranquil atmosphere, with its serene rooftop pool and quiet rooms boasting comfortable beds, has been well-received by many travelers. However, opinions on the hotel's amenities and room sizes vary, with some guests disappointed by the smaller spaces and heating options.
While the service is generally praised for its professionalism, a few guests have noted inconsistencies. Cleanliness is mostly commended, though not without exceptions. Concerns about value, including unexpected charges, have been raised by numerous travelers.

The only positive I would give to this hotel is its location, as I found many negatives, especially the service, especially in regards to the cleanliness of the room, because on the second day of our stay, they simply did not clean the room, Even though the cleaning staff knocked on the door of my room while we were inside the room, I opened it and asked him for five minutes to start cleaning, which he did not do that day, because when he returned at night the room It was dirty, not cleaned, without changing sheets or towels, something that had never happened to me in any hotel in the world, and I clarify that I have stayed in hotels on 4 continents for almost 50 years. I reported it to the reception and they minimized it, saying that we had probably left the do not disturb card hanging (so much so that it was not like that that I directly told the cleaning person to return in 5 minutes). I will not return nor do I recommend it.

Overall we enjoyed the hotel, it's in a great location. We stayed for a special occasion and had a fantastic time in Barcelona. Check in was quick and arriving in our room we found complimentary champagne which was a lovely touch. The terrace had a private small pool and the bathroom was spacious, the whole room was very clean. Comfortable bed and really nice shower. The hotel provided robes and slippers although they're the same size so if one of you is particularly tall or large feet, they may not fit
Some reasons we took off a star for the room:
Only one sun lounger and no table and chairs to enjoy meals together on our terrace or sunbathe together - we could see other terraces had two loungers and table/chairs so that was frustrating as we couldn't use the space as we expected (from online photos) There were gaps in the privacy fencing so neighbours would visible peek through while you're in the pool and it was slightly overlooked from other buildings so not as private as you might think The room, was clean and compact but almost too small. Nowhere to put suitcases and not enough storage for two people to unpack everything. The TV in the room next door was very clearly audible from our bathroom The bathroom mirror is the heater - excellent feature to prevent steaming but no option to turn it off so the bathroom could get warm because we had to keep the door closed due the loud TV next door, the air con would have probably balanced the temperature had the door stayed open during the night The pools pump feature turns off too early which was disappointing. The pool water is not heated at all for cooler days or for use in the evenings. Very limited room service menu generally but particularly for anyone with any type of dietary requirements. Same goes for the breakfast menu which, along with having no table or chairs on our terrace to eat it, is why we didn't order it, as €19 each is a lot, but for a vegan guest it is a total waste of money

Dear guest, Thank you very much on behalf of the entire team of the Catalonia Eixample. We are sure many users of the web site will find your description very helpful. Regarding the size of the terrace, one of the limitations to build a hotel in a historical building (with the highest degree of protection) is everything must be submitted to the protected parts of the building. And this means there won't be two rooms alike. Next time do not hesitate to ask our Reception team to assign you one of the rooms with two loungers. Regarding the breakfast, if you ask it up in the rooms the offer is limited. But if you come down to our Breakfast Buffet, you will find a wide variety of food. Not only for vegetarians but also to people with serious dietary requirements. Once again, thank you very much indeed for your wonderful words. Best regards.

Very professional welcome in this Inn well located between the RAMBLAS and SAGRADA FAMILIA, the plus of this Inn is the closed and guarded garage that is under the Inn Award of 20 euros per night, which is appreciable considering the many works in Barcelona that hinders traffic, The room is spacious and good quality bedding, On the other hand few staff speak French, better to speak Spanish or English, it will facilitate the exchange at the reception, If you can enjoy breakfast do not hesitate there is something for all tastes as savory as sweet, so many things that you do not know what to choose,

We have visited 9 hotels across 8 cities in France and Spain over the last month and this was the most expensive and the worst of the lot … by a long way. Which room took 4 return trips to the front desk, trying to get laundry done took 4 visits and even then we ended up doing it ourselves in a nearby laundry, getting keys that worked another three visits, the room was noisy, it took a solid five minutes of running cold water before you could get hot in the shower. Each visit to the front desk was a disappointment, staff either knew nothing and had to ask a friend or we’re rude in answering questions, either way you couldn’t rely on the answer you received. The only nice things I can say is that it was a good location and the breakfast was easily the best of all the hotels we stayed at in our trip. In summary - I would recommend looking elsewhere.

Dear guest, We are very sorry the hotel did not reach your expectations. And of course, we thank you for sharing your opinion with us and other users of the web site. We already sent a copy of your complaint to our housekeeping department and to our front desk manager and we will analyze every single problem you had during your stay. Regarding the delay in getting the hot water, it works perfectly fine now. So, we assume one of the re-circulation pumps could have been off for a while. Just in case, we have opened a fault report with our maintenance team. Regarding the rates, unfortunately you chose some of the most difficult days in the year because of the celebration of a huge congress in the city. Once again, please accept our most sincere apologies for the problems you experienced during your stay. We wish you will give our Company another chance in the future to show you our real quality standard. Have a wonderful springtime. Best regards from Spain.

Disgusting. I woke up and when I was about to put my feet on the floor I saw something move, I was about to step on a cockroach that was in the room. We captured it (they make me very disgusted and even more so crush it) we dialed reception to notify them and we recorded a video so they could see and therefore act accordingly. But the naturalness of the response from the hotel staff, who told us that “it's normal for them to be there, things happen,” was regrettable, carefree and alarming. After seeing that poor pest management and the naturalness with which the matter was treated, I did not dare to have any food there, because if one got through the shower sewer to the 7th floor where there is no food, I would not I don't even want to imagine what the kitchens are like, where there is food residue in the dishwashers, and worse the food you consume. Food contamination by cockroaches is a serious issue. It is something totally avoidable with good waste management as well as hiring a pest management company or at least having someone from the operations area in charge of fumigating the rooms.

We stayed 3 nights in this hotel, the welcome was good, our room was however small and the bathroom very small, we were brought to our room with our suitcase and the gentleman put the suitcase on the end of reads it as it falls to the ground with momentum... The bedding is good, there is a welcome bottle (only 1 out of 3 nights) there are only "common" products (shampoo and shower gels only) for me there is at least a lack of body cream and a hair conditioner. The major negative points for me are the lack of maintenance of the shower, there is mold on the joints, a smell of "cold tobacco" in the room, and a light on 24 hours a day at the bottom of the bathroom which does not can't turn off, the air conditioning is light (luckily it wasn't hot in Barcelona). The "swimming pool" is very small and the water is green which cooled me down a lot...and unfortunately at the bottom of the hotel there was work going on which made the "swimming pool" moments very noisy. The positive points: pleasant staff, blackout curtains, heated towel rails, good breakfast (except fruit because it is hard and therefore inedible), luggage concierge, nice view from the "swimming pool". The location was good based on our visits.

Nothing but positive things to say about our stay here! The rooms were clean and of a high standard, the staff were polite, friendly and very helpful! I stayed here for my Birthday weekend and received a lovely room service tray of wine and sweets on the day, which I was very touched by! The hotel is in an excellent location, walking distance from every major attraction and very near multiple metro stations! We didn’t eat the hotel food so I cannot comment on that, but the rooftop pool and loungers were very clean and classy. I cannot recommend highly enough- especially at this price!

Dear guest, We have read your review carefully, and we wonder if you really stayed at the Catalonia Eixample 1864****. If the hotel charged you 250€ for the ice and a bucket, the hotel where you stayed must be a very luxury hotel. Usually only the service is charged and it is usually a nominal amount. On the other hand, we have a total of 9 channels in English, not 4. Plus, our towels are cloth, no paper. Please, be so kind to check the hotel where you really stayed and post the review where it belongs. Thank you very much in advance.

The service as the front desk was very good, from the check-in to the check-out process. The location lends itself to some of the most popular attractions in Barcelona. The hotel room was compact and high tech, while the bed was comfortable. The shower was awesome, it had two separate faucets, one for the 12” diameter rain shower and another for the shower wand. I like the fact that the toilet was a soft close lid, as well as the lighting in the room. And finally, a hotel gets it right, the soft close room door was fantastic, I didn’t have to hear other doors slam shut!

Make sure to book a room with digital AC, be explicit when you book so you don't end up in a sauna. The standard between rooms are very very different, the first I had was worn down, rock hard bed and without working AC to the point the room was so hot that I couldn't sleep. The staff ignored this with a lie until I brought a colleague with me who had a room with full working AC. We had paid the same amount of money for our rooms but the rooms were VERY different when it came to standard.

Dear guest, Thank you very much for sharing your opinions with other users of the website. Concerning the air conditioning, unfortunately there is an only circuit. In the winter season it brings hot water to provide heating. And in the summer season it brings cold water to provide cooling. This is not usually a problem, but it becomes a problem when the weather outside is not either hot or cold. But you are right, there is an exception; the 14 rooms we have fully renovated last winter (both on the 5th and on the 6th floor). These 14 rooms they have a VRF device and can have both heat and cool any time of the year. The idea is to increase the number of rooms with VRF devices in the coming years. We thank you again for your feed back. We wish you a wonderful spring time. Best regards.
