We spent three nights here on our recent trip to Barcelona. A great location for exploring, close to Sants mainline station, metro and Tarragona metro, Plaza de España, the Bullring and Montjuic and clearly good value, based on our coach tour company using it as a base. There were also plenty of bars and restaurants within walking distance and a Mercadona supermarket next door.

Staff at Reception were friendly and helpful and spoke good English, Reception itself was stylish and the restaurant/bar area with an extensive buffet breakfast was excellent; these were deserving of a 4 star hotel rating.

But sadly, the hotel bedrooms were NOT!

Ours, on the 6th floor, like most of our coach tour amigos, had two narrow single beds with plastic covered mattresses; the room had only one chair at the shelf that just about held up the TV and was coming away from the wall. There was only one socket for charging phone, I-pad or laptop, and no kettle or tea/coffee making facilities. Ironically there was a fridge, described as a minibar, that a credit card was requested for at check-in, but that held two bottles of water that had been opened and half used. We did have black out curtains though which a couple of our colleagues didn’t!

The bathroom didn’t have a proper mixer tap for the shower which resulted in water being too hot or too cold before eventually finding a suitable temperature plus running the risk of scalding! The shower was in the bath which itself was extremely slippy, with no gripper pads or plastic bathmat to prevent falling. As someone with two replacement hips I found it scarily slippy and, as the hotel were unable to provide bath mats, ended up putting a towel in the bath to stand on when showering. Another accident waiting to happen here, hotel management!

Is the hotel in the process of updating and improving the room facilities? If not, you might want to choose to stay elsewhere…

I give 5 stars to the hotel’s Location, service, and breakfast. Location: about 30 min walk to Passeig de Gracia where the famous buildings Casa Battlo and Mila are located; 17 min walk to the Magic Fountain and Arena Barcelona ( a big shopping complex). If this walk is a bit far for anyone reading this, don’t worry, train is accessible that will take you to major attractions in no time. The Barcelona Sants is just behind the hotel which is useful if you are considering train for a day trip to Girona or traveling to the Airport. Tarragona metro is about 3 min walk which will take you to metro Barcelona and its major attractions. You don’t really need a hop on and hop off tour as major attractions are accessible by metro or walkable from the Passeig de Gracia. Service by staff is excellent, courteous, and friendly. Our modern & spacious room was maintained well by housekeeping. Breakfast buffet offered in the spacious hotel restaurant which is included in our room is comprehensive and tasty. The room is has a good floor plan, excellent bed, and shower. The only cons are the following: traffic noise can be heard from our room but that did not disturb my sleep, floor tiles cracks are visible which looks like spider veins running through the tiles which makes our room look like a bit dated but that did not bother us at all, and milk packets which are freebies are seemingly controlled (only one per person) and no extras provided for those wanting to have a very ‘milky’ coffee. Highly recommended for location, value, and excellent service by reception, housekeeping, and restaurant employees.

Location is great without any arguments: so close to train station Sants as well to bus station which has the same name. The closet metro station is Tarragona.
The rooms surly need renovation seems out of fashion besides aren’t spacious, the bed and specially the pillows are far from comfortable.
Taking a shower will lead to flood even if you close well the curtains...
On the other hand, breakfast is so various and delicious as well.
The staff are welcoming and nice also

We stayed here after staying in another hotel 10 min away which was half the price. This hotel calls itself a four star. The room we were in was at most a two star and I wouldn’t have paid more than 50 pounds a night for. Yet we paid 130 a night. In contrast the other hotel was a real four star at half the price! Don’t call yourself a 4 star if most of your rooms are a two star quality. Dated furniture, cracks on the walls, 80s stippled walls... simply awful. You’ll pay less and be in a nicer room literally 10 min away walking.

Dear Charlottecb, Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. The best and most effective way for us to improve the quality and consistency of our service is to listen to the concerns and recommendations of our guests. They often see areas for development where we may have overlooked. We try to improve every day and for this reason, are actually working on updating the rooms and bathrooms of the hotel. It is very important to us that the hotel can always provide the maximum comfort to our guests and make them feel like at home. I hope you will give us another opportunity, to try our refurbished rooms. It is a big deception for us having let you go with such a bad feeling and bad impressions of the hotel. We would like that if you come to visit Barcelona some other time, you could give us a second opportunity. We want to be able to demonstrate that we can offer a lot more than what you hope and expect. Thank you again, for choosing us as your destination in the first place and again for posting your comments. Best regards, Beatriz Pajuelo Quality Department

If you think you rate as a four star hotel, the very least you could do is have tea and coffee making facilities in the room? Maybe spend more on the rooms instead of the over the top lobby that leads people into a false perception. Outrageous price for what is basically a two star transit hotel. I have stayed in far better Travelodges.

We spent 3 nights in the hotel in february with my boyfriend. When we arrived, the receptonist was very polite and the bell boy also helped with the luggage. They spoke english very well, it was not necessary to use my spanish knowledge. The location is perfect, close to the train/ metro station and Plaza de Espana, shopping mall and many restaurant. The breakfast was amazing and had a huge variety.
The room was modern, clean and not noisy.
And special thanks to the employee in the bar, bc I went there after midnight (the bar closes at midnight) to ask for some yogurt for my boyfriend bc he had a stomach ache and they were so kind to me and gave me the yogurt.
All in all: i would like to return anytime.

Room was very noisy. Put beside the loud noise from streets which is ok due to central location, but someone - maybe the stuff - moved the furniture every single night. It woke me up and continued over an hour every time. The walls seems to be thin as ice.

It claims to be a four star place, but those stars must have been given in the nineties. Lobby seems nice, but rooms are quite shabby.

I will never stay at this place again, and neither should anyone who would like to sleep the whole night without listening decorating every night.

Dear Mr. MiikkaN, Thank you for sharing your experience with other travelers. We are really sorry to know that we did not reach your expectations. Thanks for flagging up your challenge to have silence in the room, we're sorry to hear of this. Regarding noisy guests in hotel, our objective is provide a good rest to all our guest. For that reason our reception is open 24 hours. Our staff are always on hand to assist you and quieten down other guests in the event that they are disturbing you as soon as they are made aware of the situation. With respect to the sound from the road noise, unfortunately, is not in our hand. On arrival at the lobby I thought they'd had an incident with a toilet, because the fragrance that greets you is of a plane's toilet usually at the end of a long flight. I subsequently realised that it was a curious choice as the whiff persists day after day.

There was a long queue snaking across the lobby for check in, with just one person at the counter. Shortly after another person came on duty, and a third whose only job seemed to be to tell the customers off for blocking the door, no matter where you happen to be standing. I also notice, on checkout, that they had 2 'security' personnel (for it is their job title) who looked on doing sweet FA as customers queued. So at least I should be grateful right?

The aircon on my first night was all noise and no function. I turned it off and opened the balcony door and there was someone talking very loudly, apparently on the balcony next door, at 3am. I banged on the wall, put on noise reduction earbuds, with sleep inducing sound on, and could still hear the jet engine that was the aircon. The next day I called reception to ask if the noise level with no cooling was normal. They said maintenance told them there was a fault and it would be fixed within an hour. OK thanks for not letting me sleep for a second all night.

I was moved across the corridor later in the day, where at least there was a double bed instead of 2 singles. The aircon still roared but at least it was cooler and eye mask and noise reducing ear buds helped. However, it seems with double rooms there is no usable power point anywhere near the bed! Also the wifi in the twin seemed to be fast enough to stream games on. Across the corridor, even when it was working (which it often does not), it was barely 1Mbps! I don't remember whether I used my roaming data for streaming games the previous night but the wifi situation is truly woeful!

Although my new room faced the giant forecourt of Eastacio Sants it was quieter late at night than the other side which faced the local street. It also became cool enough outside not to have to turn the aircon on to sleep, and thank god no one talked loudly on the balcony in the middle of the night.

Breakfast is bearable if you only eat it once. Enough said I think.

The roof terrace was not open.

All in all a '4 star' hell hole!

Great location and easy to access other parts of the city. Bar drinks are priced the same as around Barcelona and food menu looked good (we didn't try it) rooftop bar is very spacious and the staff spoke English which was great. The swimming pool area is also very large and comfortable but there is no umbrellas in the very hot sun so you can stay long if your fair skinned. The hotel, personally shouldn't have 4 stars. The room is extremely basic, walls need a painting. The bathroom was nice and it was good to have a balcony. Unfortunately There was no tea or coffee facility in the room which was a big disappointment.

This is our second time staying at this hotel and I would highly recommend it to anyone staying in Barcelona.
Staff have always been lovely and helpful with any queries we have had and go out their way to help you without any hesitation.

Rooms are spacious and kept clean; room service is also available which is reasonably priced and has good options for eating and drinking.

As it is a little further out from the centre the prices and resteraunts are a lot more reasonable.
Transport links are right across from the hotel and the 40 minute walk to the centre seems much quicker.

We will definitely be returning to this hotel when we return to Barcelona!

Thank you for a lovely stay again!
