This was my 3rd stay at Casa Gracia. The staff are great, the common spaces are wonderful and the a/c in my rooms has always been excellent. The rooms are clean and showers good. This time was a little different - due to covid most of the common areas were closed, and what used to be a fabulous breakfast that set you up for the day has been replaced with a very basic banana, doughnut, yoghurt, juice, and undrinkable coffee.

While I understand that covid requires some restrictions, Casa Gracia's seem to have gone beyond what is currently required. For example, there is currently no access to laundry facilities, which complicated my stay.

The biggest problem was that the wifi was simply unworkable - i needed to work while I was there and had rented an apartment for that purpose, but it proved impossible because of the wifi. In the past I might have been able to find a quiet corner of the building with a decent signal but the closure of most common spaces removed that option. Also, in the absence of the common spaces the rooms are a bit spartan to be comfortable for an extended period - something to think about if the common spaces will be disapearing permanently.

I'm still giving them a good rating because the staff are wonderful, friendly, helpful, responsive and welcoming, the space is great when the property is fully open, and the location is perfect for me. Lots of things about Casa Gracia work really well even in the middle of a pandemic, and I appreciated management's commitment to cleanliness, masks, and keeping everyone safe.. However, they really need to address the wifi and i hope they do something about the terrible coffee.

I look forward to returning when we can finally put covid behind us, because this is a good place to stay.

Beautiful decor and relaxed atmosphere. Bad smell from shower drains the entire stay (4 nights) and when I told a member of staff they told me I needed to tell a different member of staff. Beds in dorms are basic and not mega comfy but will do. Some dorm rooms inc mine only had windows into the centre of the building so quite dark all day. Communal areas are bright and lovely and breakfast is well stocked if you get it for free (usually free if you book through their website off season 8 euros pp otherwise - not sure its worth this). The laundry was an eye watering 5.50 to do yourself and only one machine which was constanly in use. There are coin laundrettes elsewhere in Gracia. Easy to find the hostel- 15 min walk from P d Gracia metro and just under an hour walk to the sea. Liked the ambiance but a couple of interactions with staff ranging from bossy to shruggy made me feel less at home.

Stayed with my friend for a week, switched rooms halfway. We stayed in 4 person and 6 person mixed dorms both on the 1st floor

Pros:
Great staff, very clean, comfortable beds.
Safe location, markets and restaurants all close. Explore the back neighborhood of Gracia for great restaurants instead of going into the more touristy areas.

Room over the back courtyard was great (6 person), would highly recommend. Extremely spacious. Nice breeze, desk, and plenty of space!

We also had a room which was in the center of the building (4 person) and windows faced internally. Zero sunlight, and exhaust vents just outside the windows. Much smaller and not the best

Showers and bathrooms were kept clean every day by staff.

Cleaning services provides fresh towels and bedding

Common area and kitchen are nice, breakfast included with some rates.

Outdoor back patio

~50 min commute from the airport by metro

Common sights are all within <20 min walks

Cons:
!!!! Although the bathrooms were clean (they came and bleached/clean each afternoon), it appears to be an issue with the septic/sewer that a stench may creep out of the pipes (especially at night). This does not appear to be any problem by the staff with hygiene, but instead just old infrastructure of the city. It wasn’t an uncommon stench elsewhere. Keep the bathroom door closed at all times (especially when sleeping) !!!! We noticed this in both our 1st floor rooms

Bit of a walk down to the beaches, but cabs were cheap and the metro is right around the corner.

Furniture in the common area was not the comfiest, but pretty worn in.

Overall:
A great place to stay if saving money for other fun activities. Slept very well on the mattresses and was always pleased with the staff.

Not quite a hotel, but something much nicer then a backpackers hostel.

I am really confused by all the good reviews for this place. First of all it is not a Hotel , it is a hostel. So description is misleading . I would not be staying there if I knew about it ahead of time
The only good thing about this place is a location!
Customer service is Ok but over all
Place is not clean, it is outdated , rooms are so small. We got “family room “ in the next door building windows are looking inside feels like what jail cell would probably feel . Beds in the “living room” were roll out beds that 5yo was able to sleep ok but even to sit on edge of the bed the mattress would go down and you would end up sitting on a rail. 12 yo was uncomfortable to sleep on it .
The twin beds were uncomfortable and linen was pretty old
Tiny small hard pillow for each bed.
Blanket was small and old and unsure if it was even washed
Shower handle was falling apart . Shower drain was malfunctional . Walls with old
Paint, sink/cabinets are old and don’t close well. Tiny table for 4 little people may be .
Small fridge was nice to have
Cleaning service would just fix the beds And bring the new towels ( they are clean but my kitchen towels are bigger and softer) They lefts the trash under the sink for 2 days so I had to take it out myself ( I had no idea what to do with it ) lots of dust under the beds . Roll out beds have furniture pillows that are stuck under the bed rails for support and those feel unclean as well . If you have allergies to dust do not go near this place .
If you want to hang out at the “hotel” you have to go to another building and got to the second floor where the living area is.
Price was “doubled” for holidays but I think it is way overpriced holidays or no holidays .
So if you are looking for a “cheap “ place to stay just to crush on uncomfortable bed for 1 night you are probably fine , but I am pretty sure you can find a better place for the same price . Add 50 more euros and you would be able to find a place that is way better .
If you are looking for some basic comfort -you are not going to find it there .
Don’t look at the pictures on the websites ( even those super simple pictures can be misleading of the space )
It might be ok for a group of young friends who are traveling on a very tight budget but for some families who are paying over 200$ per night -stay away

We visited two of us in 2021 november and were expecting a great place with a chic look based on the pics showed during booking.
Unfortunately it was nothing like that, the common areas especially the bar and lounge looks nice and stylish but the room we got was probably the worst we ever stayed in, tiny, ugly decoration with dark grey colors making it look like a prison cell and dormitory at the same time, ugly tiles on the floor, very cold without a rug, we barely managed to figure out how to make the air-conditioner heat as the room was very cold, after finally getting some warm air, the AC made duck like noises all night long. It was like it is raining outside every day, somehow water falling was heard like from a tube in the wall. There was no furniture only a hanger. Room was very dark too with a tiny old window that overlooked to the front room and the inside of the building making no sunlight coming to the room at all.
The bathroom looked nice but the sink was super tiny, toilet barely flushed, the bathroom had a see through door which was also leaking all noise just like a curtain making it uncomfortable to do anything inside.
We arrived the middle of the night around 1:30 am, the reception was open 24/7 but the lady behind the desk was almost in hiding, when we finally spotted her and got in she kind of had an attitude, we also had to pay the booking upon check in which I never experienced before. We did not receive the voucher for free drink that he hears others being offered.
As for cleanlyness we found couple of spots on the blankets, no trash bag was provided in the bathroom trash can, there was also no toilet brush in the bathroom. We missed to receive shampoo.
They have a rule that they clean only after 3/4 days because of covid.. which we found not very logical, after two days we requested new supplements, towels and to take out the trash, which was finally provided upon request.
Staff was generally kind and helpful except for the night check-in, they have a luggage storing place too which came in handy.
Overall I do not recommend the place, even though the location is amazing the room was pretty depressing and a terrible rip-off for the price we payed.

The property is located in one of the top location of Barcelona, elegant street and few steps from the metro . The entrance is clean and stylish . Regardless these positive aspects I disliked my stay there . The breakfast ( poor ) is organized in a room that look as a hospital and it transmits bad feelings . Our room was too hot and the AC was working only during the Summer time . The manager Monica kind of fixed bringing a huge mobile AC device but still there noises from the corridor since the wall are totally tiny . Impossible to sleep and relax .
We booked a room with a double bed but we realized the they just attached 2 twin beds and it was uncomfortable stay with a hole in the middle . They offered to change room on the last day but we didn’t acccept since it was the same category . We were expecting an upgrade perhaps .
I definitely wouldn’t come back there .

This is perhaps d worst hostel that I have ever seen in my life. Let me list out why:
1. Unclean room. They apparently have a policy of cleaning rooms only once in three days. Even if asked if towels could be changed, their response is that the rooms will be cleant only once in three days. Shameful and in these covid times such kind of hostel are best avoided.
2. Broken tiles and latches. Ours was a Road facing room and had a broken latch, as such the window remained open and d room was noisy.
3. No cupboard in the room. It’s suppose to be en-suite and they charged me almost 880 euros for 6 nights. It’s a rip off. No basic facilities in the hotel.
4. They only offer a egg sandwich and avocado bagel for breakfast. Even if you are willing to pay, there is no facility for any kind for food to be served. Not even omelet. Disgusting! 🤬
5. Except for a good location there is nothing in this property. There is tremendous scope as they property has large rooms and space but is very badly managed.

Excited to visit Barcelona in April 2022, we checked into Casa Gracia, in the exclusive and high end shopping district of Passeig De Gracia, centrally located and close to the Diagonal Metro station and home to Gaudi's Casa Mila and Casa Batllo.

We booked for 7 nights and had issues with our private room for 4 people from the time we checked in.
1. The WiFi is practically non-existent and dropped off continuously throughout our stay.
2. There was intermittent hot water, with some days having no water (hot or cold) at all. I suspect that they switch off the cylinder at different times of the day. We had to call the maintenance team every day within our 7 day stay.
3. One one day, there was no hot water at all. The maintenance informed that two floors were affected where one floor had cold water in both taps and another floor only had hot water in both taps. The water system was erroneously switched which caused this problem.
4. The building is in a good location but is quite old. They have not invested in fast and consistent WiFi (as in the rest of Barcelona central) and there appears to be a lack of maintenance and generally poor service.
5. When I booked online, the booking indicated that I could cancel before a certain date. However, once booked, the booking stated that I would be liable for full payment as cancellation was not an option.
6. We had to request soap and shampoo regularly as it was not topped up daily.
7. The hand shower in the bath was intermittent, sometimes worked and sometimes did not depending on the water situation on the day. The drainage was also very slow and water did not drain efficiently, causing water build up in the bath.
8. The kitchen on the first floor had no kettle so could not make teabot coffee. They didn't inform is that there was even a kitchen that we could use. We found this out by accident.
9. When we first arrived, we put our bags in storage until we could check in. When we collected our bags, they were soaking wet. I complained to the Management that there could be a leak, but they took no responsibility and neither did they apologise.
10. The general service was not at all what we expected living in a high end neighbourhood. I complained via WhatsApp and in person every time there were issues and management did nothing to ease our situation or apologise. On the last day of our holiday, Monica, the Manager sent a WhatsApp message to request a discussion of the issues. We never got to meet and she never followed up nor made an allowance for the inconvenience and pathetic service we had received.
11. On the brighter side, Alfredo was very helpful and pleasant and assisted us with our taxi when we checked out.
12. Casa Gracia needs training in customer centricity as our experience was not great at all.

Barcelona was wonderful though! We love this city and will definitely be coming back to visit!

This hostel is perfect for families, or travevelers that want a more quiet experience of the city. The amenities are amazing, extremely well decorated and comfortable. The breakfast is definitely a must, there are gluten free options and vegan options for milk and butter. The shared kitchen is very well equiped and there are plenty of fridges and storage for you to leave your food.
The shared bedrooms are really nice, the only problem could be the smell of moisture when you don't leave the window open (as the bathroom is in the room) but other than that it is cleaned everysingle day and you have free shampoo and bath soap at your disposal.
I took the free walking tour the hostel offers everymorning with a tour company called Gilligan's, at 10am and it was amazing ! It was not your typical tourist tour and we learned a lot of fun facts that you can't find in any tourist book. Our guide was so interesting and she was super nice !

The only downside would be the wifi, it doesn't work everywhere in the hostel and sometimes it's hard to connect.

Going to Barcelona and booking a hostel sometimes may seem intimidating, especially when traveling alone.

I have have booked an unfortunate hostel in Barcelona before and I did not want a repeat of the second try. However, located in a prime location (very central), and the property looked taken care of and modern. Arriving late to the property, the check in ran smoothly and quickly, where I was able to go straight to bed.

The hostel provides free breakfast which include a bagel with the chosen topping to choose from, as well as juice and unlimited coffee. This was surprising for me, as the room rate was extremely low for the location and property that this was a delightful treat that Casa Gracia provided.

The room I stayed in was nice, with high ceilings and clean walls. Which is nice if you are sleeping on the top bunk of the bunk beds. The top bunk beds were easy to get to. Not like the difficult ones you have to get up by ladder trying not to wake or kick the person on the bottom bunk.

The designatd cabinet for each person was spacious. I had enough room to put my carry on suitcase in it. The cabinet can be locked but the hostel had no locks left. Which is something that I went out to go and search for - so a tip is to bring your own small padlock and key.

All in all, the space was beautifully and extravagantly designed and the people working provided a welcoming and environment.
