HC Hotel Magec appears to struggle with maintaining its rooms, as many guests have encountered issues such as mold and pests, alongside complaints about the air conditioning. Opinions on the service vary, with experiences of both friendly and unhelpful staff. Its central location is acknowledged as convenient, yet its suitability for tourists is debatable. The value proposition of the hotel is questioned by travelers, who are disappointed with the all-inclusive options and the quality of food. Furthermore, the atmosphere is often described as dull with outdated decor, and the cleanliness and amenities receive mixed reviews, with some guests noting limited pool space and inconsistent bar service.

Went with my parents and overall it was average.

Pros:
• All staff are nice and will greet you with hello or good morning
• There are shops nearby to buy things from
• There is a pool on the top floor which allows you to get a really good sunbathing session in or take a dip.
• Talking of taking a dip, the sea is not too far away either
• The towels and room are cleaned everyday, so expect clean towels.
• There was live evening entertainment when we were there, on the Friday and Saturday.

Cons:
• You might not always get the best night's sleep, depending on where in the hotel you are based. (E.g- Banging doors, stomping)
• There can be unsociable behaviour from other people at times if they have had one too many!
• Food for breakfast/lunch/dinner is not always hot
• The pool on the top floor is freezing and is not too big either
• There is no real options, food wise, for vegetarians
• Sauna wasn't working when we went there
• The gym is on the top floor and is on your right when you come up the stairs or out the lift!
• The TV in the room basically only has Spanish channels available
• There is no kettle in the room, but you can buy one there at the hotel!

Tips:

Bring an eye mask for sleep and some earplugs or of the like!

Go for self-catering if possible!

Bring your own travel adapter if possible, but you can also buy one there at the hotel or local shops.

Our staff are very friendly and always seek to make our guests' experiences as pleasant as possible. Our location is good for connections and for its proximity to the beach and places of interest. As for the downsides, we take notes to improve :)

I am just home from 10 days in Hotel Magec and I would love to share our experience. Firstly the staff at reception are very friendly we checked in late at 11pm and they were so welcoming. The hotel itself is spotless and the rooms are cleaned every singe day which I thought was very nice. The roof top swimming pool is abit small but was never very busy which in turn didn't effect the size of the pool. It definitely wouldn't be suited to those who have young children as there is no shallow end. The bar at the pool was very poor only one cocktail on the menu which was a Mojito so I didn't bother with this as I don't like that drink. I ordered chips another day but the fryer was broken so I couldn't get them. The bar downstairs is nice and has some seating outdoors which is good for the hotter days. The bar closed at 11 which I felt is very early for a hotel but didn't effect us too much. There was entertainment one night which was a man singing with a guitar it was OK. The main issue I had with this hotel was the Air Conditioning. It was shocking the rooms were so so hot and the air con was so weak that it didn't really make any difference to the room. One night before heading out I was locked into the hotel room as there was an issue with the handle and I couldn't open it from inside. Luckily my father was outside and I slid the key card under for him to let me out. Once I went to reception for this they had someone come immediately to fix it which was a relief. The food is a definite no for me. We had breakfast included and had this one morning the food was stone cold nothing to keep it warm and my partner went to have scrambled egg and there was a dead cockroach in it. I notified staff and they said oh no I better go tell the chef but that was it. Needless to say we didn't touch another thing. The location of this hotel is very central to all shops, restaurants and bars so that was a huge positive to us. Just across the road there are afew shops to pick up some drinks and snacks that really came in handy for us. Overall we had a nice stay but I won't be returning to this hotel again.

So not 4star did I expect it to be NO not at the price. 7 nights B&B, nice continental selection Cooked breakfast give it a miss, never hot or even warm Positives great location although quite steep climb back Room clean, firm mattress ( my preference ) staff friendly Nice rooftop pool plenty subbed an parasols Negatives Food, lack of entertainment, sauna and massage closed Bit shabby in places Room basic No kettle, fridge, lack toiletries despite being advertised ( not an issue for me but can be for some ) Would not recommend for children. It’s a shame really could be a fantastic hotel with a little effort Would I go back YES at these prices If you don’t pay ritz or 4star prices don’t expect it

Me and my partner stayed at this hotel for a week and overall it was a good experience! The rooms were always clean, fresh towels if wanted, staff also lovely. If I had to say anything bad about this hotel it would be that it was sometimes quite loud as we were based on the 4th floor (out of 8) and also our room facing the front of the hotel right beneath the bar, because of the loud users at the bar downstairs, sometimes difficult to sleep for those who need peace and quiet. Also the price you pay is what you get, the pool area was small but always got a bed and didn’t come the second it opened. Lovely views from the top, gym that was great too but didn’t make a use out of it. In terms of food we only got bed and breakfast, we weren’t a fan of some food but that’s because of preferences, still a clean diner and a lot of options! In terms of location it was great for restaurants and a beach nearby and the bus station around the corner in terms of travelling around the island! In general the hotel was good and felt safe every night, no cockroaches like most people have commented. I would recommend if staying on a budget x

This hotel is definitely NOT 4 stars. I’d give it 2/3 and that’s me being generous… I’ve been to 3 star hotels that have been 100% better.

This hotel has made my holiday very unpleasant. there’s no point paying for all inclusive because you still have to pay for stuff once you get here anyways whether you’re all inclusive or not.

I haven’t managed to get one full night of sleep due to how uncomfortable the beds are.

I have genuinely lost weight because of how terrible the food is here. Every morning it’s the same thing for breakfast and even though they change it up for lunch and dinner, the food is just disgusting. I am going hungry most days because I don’t feel that I should spend all my spending money on food outside of the hotel since I’ve paid for all inclusive. Oh, and there’s no point coming here if you’re British because they only cater to German and Spanish visitors. Most of the food here is German or Spanish, but no English except chips (that’s not the only thing we eat in the UK btw ) the variety of food is so small you find yourself going round and round the same sections at least three times before sitting down to eat.

Mini fridge doesn’t work.

The pool is ridiculously tiny and there’s only about 30 sun loungers (that amount of sun loungers in a hotel with 8 floors is ridiculous) .

The maids are jokers. They came and made the bed and chucked all my stuff to the other bed and left the rest of the room how it was. However, when you sit in the room whilst they’re cleaning they actually clean your room properly. Had to go without toilet paper for a day too after repeatedly asking.

Don’t even get me started on the elevators. While staying here one of the elevators just stopped working and the other one takes about 3 to 5 working days to actually arrive. It’s actually quicker to go down all the flights of stairs because you’ll get there before the elevator does. Which is extremely inconvenient especially when you’re on the top floor or near the top floor.

AVOID HERE AT ALL COSTS.

Real honest review of this hotel!!
NOT SUITABLE FOR KIDS!!

Avoid at all costs!!! Arrived 24th of march 2024 at 11:30/11:45am and was refused check in till 2pm despite the hotel website stating check in when you get there, I also mentioned this to reception for them to state the website is NOT up to date!! Along side this the reception staff were really rude, unwelcoming and unhelpful, the lady on reception who was there when I arrived was so abrupt, very unpleasant and clearly couldn’t be bothered to help. After checking in at 2pm we got to our room, this wasn’t 10/10 it’s was really standard, no fridge to keep drinks cool, we had to fill bathroom sink up with cold water and put our cans of pop in there and this still wasn’t affective and also had little ants all over the bathroom sink. Bedding blankets were really rough. If you’re thinking of booking the all inclusive, DONT!! Food was awful and cold all the time even if you got there for restaurant doors opening it was still cold, nothing for kids e.g chicken nuggets, pizza ect!! The drinks on all inclusive were so bad to the point it was cheap cola, only 2 cocktails were allowed, pinà colada & mojito. Hot drinks served in plastic cups!! The location of the hotel wasn’t the best either I would say 1/5, not many places to eat or drink this area feels more for residents rather than holiday makers. On 26th of march we asked reception about transfer times and she told us we would be picked up at 7:30am we got to reception for 7am to be sat there and hour later and still no transfer, the women had told us the wrong time which ended up in us having to get a taxi to the airport costing €140 and us almost missing our flight due to the ques at check in desks, the stress and disappointment this holiday has caused me is not worth what I paid for the holiday for 3 nights!! Hotels pool is on the roof, you are not allowed inflatables or a pool ball ect!! This hotel is advertised as a 4* I would say this hotel is a 2*, I have stopped in better 3* hotels!! The hotel said we couldn’t make a complaint and that there was no complaint forms, they also kept saying it’s a simple hotel providing the best value for money, I regret spending that much money for that hotel for 3 nights!

What can I say, this hotel is nothing but false advertising. We arrived Saturday 31st august for our week stay and by the Monday we wanted to go home. No laundrette on sight as stated as well as no jacuzzi, mentioned this to staff and then they told us their has not been one at this location in two years. Staff was unbearably rude on our first night over a drink as we was un-aware that we had to pay for our drinks with dinner when we was half board. (This was not stated at check in) we were rudely approached by a waiter who demanded we pay for our drinks and made to feel very unwelcome and followedus around the restaurant, every night we had to eat out as the food was unbearable, undercooked and had applauding selection. Pictures are not what it seems. When advertising this hotel it shows numerous selections but we was mostly offered fish or undercooked chicken. The pool bar was closed most days due to the weather been cloudy making visitors travel down eight flights of stairs just for a drink, lifts were not the best as we had to travel down to go back up. No entertainment all week and the downstairs bar was filled from guest from other hotel leaving no room for us to sit.Bar staff made us the wrong cocktail at the bar we was made to feel like we had to pay for it when we didn’t order it.

Moving on to the hotel rooms. Disgusting. The rooms was filled with mould and damp, most of furniture within the rooms was chipped, balcony views consisted of dirty floor and peeling off paint as well the balcony being filled with black dirt. Constant screaming, shouting, moving of furniture and slamming doors after 12 am, when stated at check in no noise after 10pm. Air cons within the rooms where faulty with an unusual smell or just point blank not working. Reception where useless when asking for basic nessesatiys such as toilet roll, we was told we had to wait till the cleaner came the next day at 10am which we found appauling. Locations around the hotel where not clean and health and safety signs where not translated.

This hotel was meant to be a treat for my wife she was so looking forward to the trip

Beds uncomfortable, pillows have rips in them and they don’t smell nice, promised a fridge and air con this hotel doesn’t have that

The facilities are shocking pool is small and can’t hold a lot, when up stairs at the pool area when you do go bar your wanting about half an hour to an hour for service because the staff disappear, the bar snacks are sweaty sandwiches that there’s about 8 to do the the all inclusive people here and there’s more than 8

The drinks are really small glasses and when you ask for a bigger glass all I got is there for paying customers all inclusive don’t get them because we’re not that important even though we have paid in advance,

The food is a horror show at its best more salad than anything else, the rice and meat at lunch is the night before meat that hasn’t been used but was sat there all night, all you can drink with breakfast is water or apple juice not allowed fizzy drinks till 11 when breakfast stops at 10. 100% the worst all inclusive food and drinks I have ever experienced wouldn’t even give the food to my dog

No entertainment at all only a bit of music off the tv in the bar if your lucky, the bar is meant to close at 12 midnight but you get kicked out at 10:50 the staff in the downstairs bar are so disrespectful to you unless your paying and they will do anything for you

Honestly I could go on and on about how bad this hotel is and the staff that work here but I will run out of space this hotel has never been a 4* hotel in its life it’s more of a 2* especially when there’s a beautiful 4* across the road

I will 100% will never be coming to this hotel again and I really advise everyone to stay well clear of this hotel as much you can because you will be so disappointed it’s unbelievable

Save your money and find a better place on island everyone I have spoke to at this hotel has hated there stay and would not recommend it to anyone

So hope this is enough to keep you well clear so you don’t have a bad holiday like we have

surprisingly excellent! I called in during a visit to South Tenerife in December to check out the hotel prior to my current trip and was sufficiently impressed to confirm my two week booking. On arrival from TFS by bus my documentation was ready at reception and check in a doddle. room on 7th (top) floor with sea & mountain view was large with balcony, comfy bed, large bathroom- all scrupulously clean. tv worked but no English channels. first week included breakfast which was simple but tepid (as is normal in Spain). rooftop pool large and there always seemed to be a bedchair available, even at midday- lots of umbrellas & tables. bus terminal is 400 yards from front door with service to anywhere on the island (Euro 10 buys a 24 hour ticket which includes tram from La Laguna to Santa Cruz). bearing in mind direct bus from PDLC to TFS is 9, that’s a bargain & I used it for a trip which included an hour’s drive to La Caldera which has stunning views on a clear day. Second week room smaller & no view but a BATHTUB! - also included dinner which was adequate (better at weekends) and fantastic VFM. dining room scrupulously clean & well managed, lifts both worked the entire time & all staff friendly & helpful- thoroughly recommended

Well…where to start…

Drinks:
very inconsistent, ran out of most the things we drank, bar kept closing at different times every day. It tells you the bar is open till 12 but you can only get all inclusive drinks til 11 Some nights we could sit in the bar til 12 and some nights we had to leave…well, we got kicked out at 11/11:30. They have a bar by the pool with VERY poor service, staff was hardly there and kept disappearing.

Food:
don’t even want to talk about it…traumatising. Had a prawn with the shell and “poop-sack” still inside…gross. Very limited options on food, felt like a veggie while I was there as every time I had the meat it made me ill. Barely ate the food as it was bad, was even sat in the restaurant to eat dinner and had a cockroach climb up my leg!!! Absolutely minging. They offer you “bar snacks” - no. It’s a stale sandwich with sweaty cheese and salami.

The rooms:
The rooms are really dated, air conditioning unit dial was in roman numerals 🤣 and didn’t really work. There was no fridge in our room so had to drink warm bottled water… The bed was very firm and was 2 single beds pushed together to make a double. It was clean and the balcony was a decent size on the positive.

The staff:
Some were okay, some were rude. Life-guard was hardly ever there and the pool opens at 10 with no life-guard present. A little boy nearly drowned on our first day - no lifeguard and the mum had to jump in, she injured herself in the process. The cleaners were lovely and did a good job.

Facilities:
There’s no ice machine, pool is rather small and freezing. There was no entertainment for the whole week we stayed there, definitely not good for small children.

Summary:
We paid for an all inclusive 4 star hotel and that is very far from what we received. If there wasn’t any other english people staying in the hotel with us it would not have been an enjoyable experience. The location is okay with plenty of restaurants around but most of the excursions are on the other side of the island.
