We visiting the bancal in October 2024. The hotel is very modern and clean ,
Check in took longer than expected there were 2 more couples in front of us with 2 reception staff and we checked in online to make things easier before we left but this still took 30 mins and after a 17 hr day I wasn’t best pleased .
Rooms
Very clean spacious beds very comfortable toileting maybe an issue for some as Altho glass is tinted you can still see silhouettes of what business you are doing .
Coffee and tea sachets not replaced unless you ask a cleaner daily and no milk..
The balcony was also very spacious with a lovely view
Food
We went half board and found the food to be very good plenty of choice both breakfast and even meal although maybe a little warmer would be better.
Staff
Friendly helpful some do struggle with English at times but we are in a Spanish country so I guess we should be better at there language
Water issues
You receive a small glass water bottle in your room which you take down to refill at breakfast all other water is to be paid for
Pools
Lovely very quiet
Accessibility
The hotel is on a hillside although there are lifts you still have a few flights to climb on curtain routes
Entertainment
Not the best very few and when there was there was only a handful of people to watch not sure where everyone went on a evening , there are pool tables and a table tennis table if you like that thing
Shop
Lovely little shop was currently being stocked but could do with tea coffee water

We have just returned from an 11 night stay at the beautiful Bancal hotel. The hotel is ultra modern with a feeling of "Grand Designs" about it. It is cleverly integrated into the hillside above San Sebastien and looks impressive as you arrive. We were greeted by very friendly and professional reception staff who soon had us on our way to our room. We had booked in online to save time and it is well worth doing.
Our room was spacious and very comfortable with everything we needed. Towels, bedding and fittings are all of a very high standard as are the toiletries. The hotel has a very green and environmentally friendly agenda. There are lots of lighting options in the room for comfort and a large satellite TV with English channels. Outside we had a small patio which we used every day. All rooms have sea views and we could watch the sun rise over Mount Teide.
We used the buffet restaurant for breakfast and dinner each day and the food was excellent with good choices and constant replenishment throughout service. There's a live cooking station at both meals so you have extra choices of meat and fish.
We were never disappointed! Drink prices were reasonable. The dining room is nicely laid out so you have plenty of space around you whilst eating which is really good ..In fact the whole hotel has a feeling of spaciousness and calm in every area. The pools are superb and watched over constantly by the young guards. Infinity pools are really impressive.
Every member of staff we encountered in all areas was kind friendly and helpful even though we spoke very little Spanish! When we needed some help with a medical problem, reception were quick to point us in the right direction and order transport so thank you all.
The hotel initially looks a little isolated but it really isn't. There is a bus stop right outside and it costs 1Euro to get to the capital by bus (or 10Euro by taxi) so don't be put off by that.
One improvement I would suggest would be to have more drinking water stations around the hotel, especially for out of hours use. We had to plan our water usage ahead which shouldn't be necessary.
Thank you Bancal, we hope to return and see you again one day.

Outstanding in every respect. The Bancal Hotel & Spa is as oasis of peace. The pools are amazing, with 2 infinity pools, 2 children’s pool and a large pool. There’s also a spa with a pool, sauna and other features.
The food was very good, with salads and breakfast specials served in small single portion dishes, a good selection of salad, charcuterie, cheese and fruit, a range of pasta, rice, meat, fish and other hot options and amazing desserts.
The hotel put on live music in the bar most nights. There’s also a team offering activities for children and adults. A big ‘thank you’ from me for the stretch, meditation, functional fitness and other classes.
The hotel has an emphasis on sustainability, there’s no use of single use plastic, water is recycled and there are extensive areas of solar panel. The toiletries are environmentally friendly and even the key cards are wooden and not plastic. The hotel is growing its own herbs. It makes good use of local produce and will increase this in the future. The hotel itself was built on the foundations of a previous, unfinished building and makes extensive use of local materials to reflect traditional architecture.
What could be better? It would be good to see more local staff as the team were very international. Training apprentices would offer employment and skills to local people. It would be nice to have electric bicycles on offer as a sustainable form of transport alongside the charging points for electric vehicles. The advertising focuses on yoga but this was not offered at the time of my visit.
The Bancal is a new hotel, some some teething problems were to be expected. These were minor and I thoroughly enjoyed my time at The Bancal.

We have just returned from a week at this wonderful peaceful hotel, although this may change as the hotel becomes more popular.
The hotel and rooms were spotlessly clean, as would be expected of a new hotel. Rooms were very spacious and had great views of the sea.
The hotel has lots of nice areas to sit, each area having pools and bars serving snacks or food during the day, which was of good quality and inexpensive. At breakfast and dinner there was a great choice, the only improvement could be a better choice of non-alcoholic drinks and coffee in the restaurant in the evening.
The Staff were all great, with a shout out to Lizzy who was very knowledgeable about places to visit and getting around the island. Also Pryia who entertained us with her knowledge of the prickly Pears!
We hired a car for 2 days, which I think is the best way to see the island. The majority of roads are great and the cost of hire was reasonable.
A couple of points which some may find annoying: Firstly the hotel is not an easy walking distance from the town if you are not fit, and the bus service from the hotel is not great.
Secondly, the weather was great while we were there, which meant we drank a lot of water. However, as the tap water is not drinkable we tried to keep the glass bottles provided topped up. This was a challenge, as other than at breakfast the hotel bars were the only place to fill up and they wanted to charge 2 Euros for this. We would advise to buy water and take it to the hotel, which goes against the eco policy of the hotel which I assume is to cut down on the use of plastics. The hotel need to overcome this by providing free drinking water when requested, and if at the pool this could be in the form of a reusable plastic glasses which they use for alcoholic drinks when by the pool.
We hope that the water situation improves before our next visit, which we hope will be next year.

Thank you for choosing us! Also for taking the time to share your Bancal experience. We are pleased to know that you felt that tranquility and relaxation that our guests at Bancal Hotel & Spa emphasize so much. We are also glad to hear that you have highlighted the cleanliness of our facilities and room as well as its practical, modern and spacious design within it. Regarding your comment about our gastronomy, we have 7 points of sale available to our guests covering all meals of the day, with different concepts. It is wonderful that you enjoyed them and that they met your expectations. We will take your comment about the non-alcoholic beverages and coffee in the evening into consideration. We are proud and grateful to you for the special mention of Lizzy and Pryia and thank you for taking the time to do so. Regarding your comments about the water, we would like to clarify that the tap water in our hotel is safe to drink. However, as part of our commitment to quality, we filter the water at all our outlets to provide an even better experience. This ensures that our guests enjoy high quality, purified water during their stay. In addition, we follow a strict sustainability policy that includes reducing the transportation of bottled water, thus minimising our carbon footprint. For this reason, we encourage our guests to refill their bottles at any of our outlets at no extra cost. We apologise if this was not made clear during your stay and thank you for your understanding. We appreciate your valuable suggestion and will work to further improve this aspect. We look forward to welcoming you back next year and providing you with an even better experience.

Brand new hotel - great location wedged into the hillside. we did love the buffet breakfast (and one buffet dinner) - room was super comfortable with 2 rooms for us (4 all together of us) adjoining which is great for families. Overall though it felt a bit "cold" - we had beers in our fridge which were cut with water (or left out in the sun) - they were undrinkable. not sure what happened there. It's sprawling -it took us 20 minutes to find the dinner restaurant and it involved 3 elevators and a bunch of stairs. Lights are slow to turn on so you often walk down dark tunnels at night. Pools are all over the place, gym is nice and new (though not enough weights) - spa made a mistake and told us they booked massages but instead they booked spa time for us in the spa rather than massage - mistake. They had no washcloths - said they would bring them and then never did. reception is too crowded, slow waits - internet is annoying as it disconnects and you have to reconnection over and over.
we loved the location and the experience - they need a destination restaurant here - Larricife was pretty average - and very few to none veggie options. The pasta with spinach actually had SHRIMP - but they didn't say. Duck, beef, fish but no grains or pasta without meat or chicken or fish.
Once they get better service, better coordination of activities (no one was helpful in planning) and maybe better signs for how to get from point A to point B and have a much higher quality restaurant, it will be A+. we did find 2 cockroaches in our room, no ceiling fans - some glitches here and there but overall we did enjoy our stay.

The architecture is amazing; the creators put a lot of thoughts into this project. Amazing landscape and views; spectacular spa; great pools; rooms are very roomy with great balconies. Staff is amazing! The ferry makes it very easy to get there from Tenerife.

This was our first visit to La Gomera. We made a late booking to visit Bancal in September, just a couple of months after opening. Our flight from the UK was very slightly delayed, which meant that we missed the last ferry to La Gomera. The travel company arranged overnight accommodation on Tenerife, and rebooked a ferry crossing and transfers. From the ferry terminal we were taken by taxi to the hotel – approx. 20 minutes from the port in San Sebastian de La Gomera.
As you approach the hotel you appreciate the size – mostly single storey, but vast, covering a lot of land. Local materials have been used plus and awful lot of concrete! The main entrance and reception truly take your breath away on arrival – we compared the area to that of a Bond villain’s lair. The whole resort has been meticulously designed, constructed and finished to a very high standard. It is difficult to imagine the challenges that the architects had to overcome to design and build the resort. The brutalist, minimalist design may not appeal to everyone, but in our opinion the areas of bare shuttered concrete work well against sharp modern finishes. High end fixtures and fittings were appreciated; particularly the super-comfortable mattresses and bedding, and even Simplehuman illuminated magnifying mirrors in the rooms. It is hard to comprehend the build cost and fitting-out budget for the resort. Landscaping throughout the resort has also been carefully planned and considered, and although still newly planted, is already looking settled.
The resort was underoccupied during our stay, which suited us as it was quiet and staff had time to stop and chat.
We found the food to be of good standard, but the buffet food could have been hotter. We ate in the a la carte restaurant one evening, and in the main buffet restaurant on other occasions. The buffet restaurant is not open at lunchtime, but light snacks are available from the 2 poolside bars. There was a good selection of hot and cold food available in the buffet restaurant; the selection will probably expand as the resort becomes busier as only half of the service area and dining room were in use. We had an early check-out (5am) on our last day, and were very pleasantly surprised to have a full freshly prepared breakfast selection available before our departure.
Special thanks go to Lizzie on reception who assisted with several queries and assisted with hiring a car for us.
Inevitably as the resort has only been open a couple of months there are some teething issues, (this is why we have rated the resort 4 based on our observations):
• Measures of wine by the glass varied enormously depending on the waiter (in the bar or restaurant) that was serving. Measures were certainly not generous and I suspect we had short measures on several occasions. Avoid this by ordering a bottle of wine and asking for any remaining to be kept for you for the next night (staff will put in a cork write your room number on with wine label).
• The sneeze-screens on the buffet servery have been fitted too low, so self-serving of some items is tricky. Some sneeze-screens have already been chipped by service cutlery – a snagging item that needs to be resolved.
• Only instant coffee is available in the rooms. In a resort of this standard a coffee pod machine would be expected.
• A couple of days before we left we were handed a card when we returned used pool towels. Apparently, we should have been issued one when we checked in, in order to access pool towels. When checking out you have to hand in the card to avoid being charged for towels, which would have been annoying at the end of our stay. This is a minor point, and will no doubt be resolved as staff gain more experience checking guests in.
• There is a policy of ‘no flip flops’ in the restaurant which perhaps could be relaxed as it was overlooked by many guests.
• Provision of bottled water in the rooms is bizarre and unexplained. On arrival you are provided with one large and 2 small branded glass bottles of water in your room. On our second day the glass bottles were removed when the room was serviced, and we expected them to be replaced later in the day. Queries and requests can be submitted via the resort app – I submitted a request for water but this was not answered. I asked reception staff for water to be supplied, and was told that water is only available on the first day, after that you have to top up bottles at a bar or restaurant. As our bottles had been removed (and there was no offer to return them) this was not possible. We were, however, able to fill our own reusable water bottles that we had taken with us. Water can only be obtained from the bar and restaurant up until 6pm – after this you are charged 2 euros per bottle. Free water is not provided when dining in the restaurants and bars. Staff that we spoke to seemed somewhat uneasy and embarrassed having to explain this, and we didn’t get to the bottom of the reason behind the strange water rationing situation. If the resort is intent on keeping this arrangement, this should be made clear when checking in, or information provided in the rooms to explain the arrangement. We fully support the resort wishing to cut down on waste (there is a paper-free policy, so menus have to be accessed via a QR code), but water rationing, for us, is a step too far.
• The only way to get to La Gomera is via Tenerife – be prepared to be on a flight with people that have been partying hard, unlike those spending a quiet relaxing time on La Gomera.
In summary – this is a stunning resort with great potential, with a few teething issues. For us the water provision, and transiting through Tenerife may deter us from returning. The water issue can easily to put right by the resort – the Tenerife connection is not as simple to overcome!

Just got back from an amazing holiday to come to terms with turning 50 (I know growing old is better than the alternative but I still can’t believe I’m old!!!)
The hotel is all about relaxing and tranquil. No big party nights or lots going on. It got busy with Spanish families at the weekend, which was loverly to see.
The transfer and ferry does extend the journey time a lot but worth it if you want to get away from the other busy islands and does feel like an adventure!
On arrival it felt like we had landed into a James Bond movie!!! Very modern and brand new hotel built onto the slopes of volcanic rock.
The hotel feels massive as it is built onto a slope so instead of a high rise number of floors, it is spread out over the hillside. The notable advantage is that there is no one above your room or below as in a normal hotel so you hear nothing from other guests. So quiet!
The infinity pools are fab and defo a show stopper! Not all of the bars were open and serving food as promised last week, I think perhaps because it was very quiet. We had lunch at the poolside restaurant a few days but chose just starters or the cheese platter. All very reasonably priced for a hotel of this nature.
We booked with Tui and got a lot of suggested excursions but were all on Tenerife so no good to us at all. Thankfully the customer service team have some excursions to offer. We went on the round the island tour that was a great day! Pick up and drop off outside the hotel. It does involve some walks to view points. The guide and driver were brilliant and managed three languages and a range of fitness of the group very well. I am recovering from an accident and another client has recently had new knees but we did make it up to the top of the mountain and it made my week! I haven’t been able to do that for over three years. We then chose the easy route back down with the driver and the more athletic types went on a harder more sporty route. With a stop for coffee and the fascinating visitor centre followed by another walk around the beautiful village it was a great day.
We have always previously chosen active watersports holidays but for this trip (due to an injury) we just needed to learn how to relax and stop and this hotel can certainly help with that!
For my big birthday we went to speak to Lizzie who organised our meal in the A La Carte restaurant and a bottle of complimentary bubbly in our room, thankyou so much! I think we would have really missed out on doing this if it wasn’t a special occasion. The food in the hotel is so amazing and such good selection I wasn’t sure what the advantage was to pay more as the translation on the menu isn’t great and doesn’t show its true offering. It was such a loverly night, made really special by Sebastian who gave us great advice on the dishes and drinks. If you are half board you get a€20 discount.
I also don’t think we would have taken advantage of the spa if not my birthday as again it isn’t really promoted but well worth the massage and afternoon in the spa. It would be worth checking the room deals as some packages include it. We paid €150 for both of us the have a massage including use of the spa or you can just use the spa for €25 each.
There were complaints about the drinking water situation but in most places we have visited we have expected to have to buy water where the tap water is not drinkable. We simply filled bottles at breakfast and bought extra from the bars if we needed it. We left one in the fridge in the room to come back to in the afternoon so no problem for us.
Other things that we got to learn was that there are coffee making facilities in the room……but no milk! The hotel is very Spanish and some don’t understand the British tea thing! We took our own Yorkshire tea and ended up asking for black tea at breakfast and a jug of milk. Depending on the understanding we sometimes got it but the milk request does confuse but I simply went to get a glass of milk from the breakfast area.
……and for those wondering, the hairdryer is a good one and you get pool towels as well as bathroom so you don’t need to take any of those items.

State-of-the-art facility! Visually top integrated into the landscape. Clean, well maintained and stylishly decorated. Very good cuisine, always fresh and varied. We were only disturbed that our supposed sea view was “planted”. (see photo) Since the system is still very new, the dishwasher is probably not yet top set. Plates and especially cereal/soup bowls were most not properly clean.
The sauna and hot tub should be included.

Luxury establishment, where we could rest and enjoy the comforts of this Hotel, we loved everything from breakfast very varied and with many options to dinner in the restaurant, as well as the pools that were there , the staff is very friendly and very attentive, we would like to come back to be more time to enjoy otherwise its facilities, as this time we were rebounding and almost had no time.

You can eat outside by the pools during the day, but breakfast and dinner is served in the dining room.

Bury St. Edmunds, United Kingdom168 contributions63 helpful votesCan anyone advise on the dress code in the restaurants? Are shorts acceptable? Thank you
I’d say that the dress code was relaxed. Some people dressed up but many didn’t. Shorts should be ok unless they’re obviously swim/beach shorts.
