Average hotel with old rooms. The elevator was slow as we were on 5th floor. The continental breakfast started at 7AM and for the price was worthwhile Town centre was bout 500 meters from this hotel. We had a small window from our room facing the streets. The television in the room offered a good selection of channels

The hotel is very close to Porta Nigra and the secure, off street parking is a big plus. The reception staff were all very helpful and welcoming. The room itself was clean and relatively spacious for a hotel room. The bathroom was excellent and the hot water in the shower hot and plentiful. It would have been good to have wifi that was functioning. At night it was only accessible in the neighbouring hotel. Also noise from revellers returning home in the early hours was disturbing if your room backs onto the lane way. A comfortable stay in a moderately priced hotel.

Good points: Excellent location right next to the Porto Nigra. Secure, free car park accessed via the road between this hotel and the Romischer Kaiser was a big plus. Our room was small but spotlessly clean and comfortable. Staff we met were polite and helpful. Negatives are that staff seemed to be thin on the ground, staff at breakfast were very rushed and understaffed. This resulted in poor service and failure to replenish food, crockery and cutlery although the few staff on duty were working hard and doing their best. My biggest complaint was there was nowhere in the hotel for guests to get a drink (hot or cold) outside breakfast time although they are available in the sister hotel on the other side of the road. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room would have been welcome.

One block from Porta Nigra and close to restaurants and shopping. Our room faced the side street and it was very noisy, particularly when the bar closed. Parking is secure but one block from the hotel so be sure to check in and take your bags to your room before parking. Wifi was out while we were there which was a big disappointment. The room was basic, no frills. Would have been nice to have a coffee pot.

They are really kind, i couldt already check-in before the time. Rellay a good location, just next to "Porta Nigra", and 3 minutes walk of the center. Parking is free and private. The sad thing is that its old, the wifi wasn't working.

This hotel was booked for us, participants in the conference by conference's organizers. It is conveniently situated in the walking distance from both main train station of Trier, from the conference venue and on the edge of the old city of Trier-Porta Nigra is behind the corner. The room I stayed in was spacious and clean. However it doesn't have an AC so in the heat like that of this summer it was almost impossible to sleep. The windows of the room I stayed in were turned to the populous Christophstrasse and it was very noisy. WiFi in the room works in an atrocious manner-connecting and disconnecting every 2 minutes. Some of the personnel of this hotel is more friendly than other. The breakfast is ok, though in the first morning it was served in the adjacent Römischer Kaiser hotel and it was better. All in all if I ever will come to Trier and would need to book a hotel by myself, Altstadt most probably wouldn't be my first choice

The hotel is excellently located, just 5 minutes on foot from the train station. (Parking is available in the vicinity if you arrive by car.) It is right at the Porta Nigra, the famous ancient Roman gate to Trier, and at one end of Trier's old city, with all its sightseeing attractions. Our room was large, comfortable and well-furnished; WiFi worked will and the TV (mostly German-language stations) was high end. The bathroom is modern and pleasant, admittedly just with a shower and no bath. Staff is helpful and speak English well. A small annoyance is that the front desk is not open after 10 p.m., and if you return later, you need to go to the neighboring hotel (under the same ownership) for them to let you in. The breakfast buffet, included in the room price, a standard item in German hotels, is unusually elaborate and tasty here.

Booked secure private parking which isn't actually available! 27 degrees and no air con, absolutely disgusted for the price! Small room and bathroom, very dated, not a modern hotel at all but with modern hotel costs! Would not recommend!

We chose this hotel based on earlier reviews but were somewhat disappointed as we would class it as rather tired looking, especially our room, although we were fortunate in changing from a room overlooking the busy road to one at the back of the hotel - a big plus point on a very hot night. The Altstadt Hotel is next door to the Hotel Römischer Kaiser and is run by the same management company. We will stay there next time as for very little extra money the Römischer Kaiser is much 'fresher' looking and it has an excellent restaurant. The staff appeared to be more friendly as well.
